A short trip to Montreal on American Airlines.

Boeing 737-800
MIA - YUL
LF: about 98%
J Class.

At the last minute I received an email with my upgrade based on my category on AAdvantage:

I left my car at the parking and walked to the new terminal D:

Not in great shape this 738:

After an hour and a half   service started:

The very good AA's omelet with cheese:

About to land:

Bombardier:

Immigration was terrible. We waited about two hours in line because they were only 6 agents attending many people:

A few images of this beautiful city:

Back to Miami I was not aware that at YUL you go throw customs and also immigration to the US right there, which was perfect because you avoid the immigration lines in MIA.

Just before entering security/immigration:

This 738 was also in bad shape:

Seat and audio old controls:

Colombia was all over this edition of the American Way magazine:

Service started: Options Cheese tortellini or Steak: I am very picky with pasta, so I went for the Steak. Not bad, typical steak on a plane.

And back in my beautiful Miami. Hope you enjoyed it.

Typical AA...looks just like the last trips I've taken on them. I really wish they'd implement a better cleaning program and maintenace/repair program. Its getting really bad.

I just did a lga-dfw-lga for this weekend on S80s roundtrip and the aircraft were very clean and well maintained. Maybe it's the 737s? I usually find AA aircraft well maintained but clearly yours were not. Food didn't look that bad.

Remember AA is in the process of installing new seats on its 737s, so there is little incentive to spend money on repairing or cleaning up the current old cabins.

Ricardo, this was an enjoyable Trip Report.
As I can see, the good point on AA is their meal service!
I flew from Sao Paulo to Orlando last April (TR coming soon!) and the planes in general were with terrible interiors.
What were your impressions about the crew? I personally think they are improving. Slowly, but improving.

Thank you for sharing!!

Nice report and one that I have taken an interest in, since i had the slight misfortune of flying AA and transiting MIA last thursday! It seems that the 757 we took to BGI from MIA, was pretty much in the same shape as your aircraft. Broken/worn seats and it was so dark inside I was really suprised! I guess though that the $10 i paid for a sandwich (we were supposed to tvl to BGI on the direct LGW-BGI VS flight but it went tech and routed VS Upper LHR-MIA) was very nice!

MIA airport was the worst airport I have ever visited and the ground staff were useless, even though we admitted we had never been to MIA and needed help! Whats with the 3 step process of check in? Talk about a waste of time!!

Anyway, rant over, but nice to see you had a good trip! YUL is a really nice city!

Thanks for the report. It seems like a very typical AA flight ... sad about the lack of quality of the hardware though.

Hola Alex.. no, nothing, not even coffee. Coffee came an hour and a half after.. it was too long waiting period, I actually thought that no service will come at all. I think one F/A for 24 people in J is too little, she was a nice and experienced lady but I don't know why she started too late even though the captain turned off the seat belt sign pretty quick, that wasn't the reason.

Hola Ricardo!

Super!!!

I love your photos of Montreal, thanks for sharing!

Those 738s are out of shape.... Same goes for the 757..... falling panels, worn carpet, and duct tape are common elements in AA's fleet. In my oppinion, and based on my personal experience, the only well kept aircraft in AA's fleet = widebodies... I recall the 727s in the 90's and early 00's....those were in pretty much the same shape as the 738s today.

However, about a month ago I flew to ORD on AA from FLL (737-800). It had the new seats which are decently comfortable, it also had the new TV screens:

http://i47.photobucket.com/albums/f168/alvaroadrian/IMG_0678.jpg

On my way back I flew on the 763 (ORD-MIA). It was in great shape, and I noticed boxes underneath each set of rows, and individual entertainment controls on every single seat (no PTV!)http://i47.photobucket.com/albums/f168/alvaroadrian/IMG_1238.jpg)

Hola Ricardo, I did not take photos of the business class cabin. I searched in the database and could not find one either. I will be flying the 738 soon (MIA-DCA-MIA) Hopefully it will be on one of the new 738s, I'll share some photos!

It would be good to see those pictures. In the meantime (and as has been discussed in a different thread here on a.net), Bowing has a video on its website on AA 738's retrofit. At the nd of the video there are also stills of "before" and "after".
Nothing too exciting, but still good that they will have a somewhat fresher look.

http://www.boeing.com/Features/2010/...ca_american_airlines_06_28_10.html

I hear that it is the bulk of AA's 757s that look very tired inside..
