Hi fellow A.netters.

This is the second trip report covering my recent summer holiday. This report will cover my flights from Paris to London and on to Madrid on Air France and British Airways. After my very short visit to Paris is was time to head back to London. Train ride was smooth and it would be my second ride on the AF A321 today. This is the lovely Terminal 2E check inn area.
http://img153.imageshack.us/img153/1480/dpp00011.jpg

After passing security the airside part of Terminal 2E seemed to be even nicer. There were some lounge seats, computer recharge points and even computers with internet access.

http://img823.imageshack.us/img823/5035/dpp00031.jpg

http://img193.imageshack.us/img193/8964/dpp00051.jpg

After having a short walk through the terminal it was time to board our flight. Unfortunately the FIDS informed about a one hour delay. I decided to walk all the way back to the other side of the terminal to have a nice seat. The delay didn’t turn out to be bad at all. Note the Air Austral 777 in the background.
http://img225.imageshack.us/img225/4430/dpp00061.jpg

After one hour of lying down I went back to the gate where boarding has started already. The passengers behaved well and no problems occurred. My ride this evening was F-GTAR. Being just over 2 years old, she already featured the new Air France interior. This turned out to be an improvement over the already fine interior on their older planes.

Notice the well cleaned carpet.

http://img266.imageshack.us/img266/4638/dpp00091.jpg

Load factor was again 100%. I was happy enough with some decent Australian neighbors.

http://img525.imageshack.us/img525/7444/dpp00121.jpg

Catering was acceptable for the short flight. Instant coffee went with a small amount of water, so it wasn’t just brown water I was drinking. The lemon cookie turned out to be nice. Something I will never take myself. A second pair of these was handed further in the flight.

After this our very short flight was finished with some holding above London. Landing was nice and taxi took only some 10 minutes. Again the Air France crew did a very nice job. They were in a hurry, but still very friendly and patient to their passengers. Some days after the flight I received an Email about my delay. 1000 Miles would be credited to my Flying Blue account. I found this a very nice gesture.

After the flight I collected my bag from the left baggage service and used the tube for the short ride toward Hatton’s Cross. Where my hotel was located. This first night of my holiday I stayed in the Jury’s Inn London Heathrow. A very nice and affordable hotel close to the airport.
http://img237.imageshack.us/img237/3103/dpp00171.jpg

At night I thought I had no view at all. In the morning I found out I had an airport view after all.
http://img339.imageshack.us/img339/9939/dpp00181.jpg

After repacking things I went for the 06:40 airport shuttle. Service was nice, only some very cheerful and loud music was played by the driver. Not so nice at 06:40.

Terminal 3 looked nice from the outside. I quickly went in and checked myself in for the flights to Madrid and Las Palmas. I acquired window seats on both flights and the 757 was confirmed. The agent actually gave me some recommendations of what to do at Las Palmas.

Security was smooth. Since I didn’t have breakfast I decided on taking some brownies at the airside Starbucks. After some walking around it was time to head for my gate. This was a very nice bus gate.
http://img814.imageshack.us/img814/8710/dpp00191.jpg

Pre boarding was completed in some minutes and the passengers were brought to the B757 that would take us to Madrid. I was thrilled to finally fly the 757 again. As she still is my very favorite aircraft. As they aren’t so happy with photographers at LHR I could only make some exterior pictures.

Leather interior looked great and was very comfortable.

http://img822.imageshack.us/img822/1456/dpp00251.jpg

Leg space was well over average. Load factor was 99%. Only 2 empty seats. Since I was seated on the last seat row my middle seat remained empty. I think I need to thank someone!

During the short taxi we passed the whale jet and Terminal 5.

Take-off was in true 757 style. What a great machine. Here follows some cloud pictures.

Arrival in Madrid was rather turbulent. After flying over some mountains I’ve had a clear view of Madrid’s four Skyscrapers. Landing was northbound. After landing I already had a view on some of the IB A340’s at Terminal 4.

I really enjoyed flying BA. This seems to be a very nice carrier. Since I was at transfer I only had some hours to spend in Madrid. After this my journey would continue to Las Palmas on the A340-600. This will be covered in my next trip report. For now I show you 4 pictures I’ve made on my short visit to Madrid.

I expect to post my next trip report Sunday evening. Next to the A340 flight to LPA it will also cover Islas Airways and the Armas ferry service.

Hi Tim,

Nice report of your latest travels!
A good read with some nice pictures.

Was that AF 321 really that young, since I spotted ashtrays in the chairs. That sad, I think they even installed old seats in that bird.

Riding the 757 must be great fun. She's playing hard to get nowadays, which is a pity. I had the joy to fly on the 757-300 with DE twice a couple of years ago, and she was a damn long pretty girl

Cheers,
Joost (D-ALCE)

Hi Tim,

You did it! Great second part with lots of pictures. Well done! How was it being back in Madrid? Did you have any meet up with other A.netters?

Not bad. Pretty decent for an overnight stay.

Is this typical LHR T5? I did not have any trouble for taking pictures at T4. Neither did you I assume.

I will be at DUS by then. Well, it looks like that I have to wait a little longer to read your follow up.

Thanks for sharing.

Suryo

Hi Tim,

great report. Congrats with the BA 757. I think as we speak now all BA 757's are taken out of service (?). At least that's what I was told last week by some British spotters.
Madrid is an ok city, but by far not a personal favourite for me. The airport T4/T4S is very nice though. Looking forward to your A340-600 story. You first time experience? I bet you had a good ride on it. Experienced that long Airbus twice on VS, and fully enjoyed it.

Regards
Eric

Hey, Tim,

once again a really enjoyable read. And also a good selection of aircraft, the AF A321 is also on schedule here soon
and no complaints about taking a 757, also a plane I love to fly on.
You shoud do more travels like this, definitely.

Looking forward to you´re Canarias story, the IB A346 is also in my log on the very same route,
but no Islas and Armas, pretty interesting.

Hi Tim,

another nice report with many high-quality pictures. I didn't have problems with loading this time - but just because I didn't use my own computer.

Quoting vandenheuvel (Thread starter):
The lemon cookie turned out to be nice.

Yes, they are really tasty. I guess they aren't on sale in Germany...

Quoting vandenheuvel (Thread starter):
Some days after the flight I received an Email about my delay. 1000 Miles would be credited to my Flying Blue account. I found this a very nice gesture.

I got the same email after a two-hour delay on AF1980 on 18 July...

Yes, very good hotel. I will definitely stay there again.

Sounds quite interesting. I'm curious to read about Islas, I flew ACE-LPA on that carrier some years ago.

Hey Tim, good to see you got on your favorite plane again. Though she doesn't look as good as Svandis   The 757 and the alleged "757 replacement" in one day, not bad!

Looking forward to the IB report!

Martijn

Nothing's worse then flying the same registration twice, except flying it 4 times..

Hi all,

Thanks for the replies so far.

All that I can find of it shows she's from Februari 2008. She didn't have the black spots of missing paint yet.. Something that seems to happen to AF birds after about three years in service

Yes it is. One of the greatest planes ever. Too bad she's becoming so very unique in Europe. I would love to fly the -300. Tha't's definitaly going to happen sometime.

Quoting akhmad (Reply 2):

Suryo thanks. Madrid was nice for the short time of my visit. It didn't rain and freeze this time. For some reason I couldn't find the Cervezeria back. There is a new icecream saloon somewere in that street though. I haven't met any other A.net members on my trip.

Quoting akhmad (Reply 2):
Not bad. Pretty decent for an overnight stay.

It was really very comfortable as it was the first night I spend with an AC after so many weeks of intens heat.

Quoting akhmad (Reply 2):
Is this typical LHR T5? I did not have any trouble for taking pictures at T4. Neither did you I assume.

We left terminal 3. But the problems were on the platform. Where I was stopped from making photos. A Canon 450 just isn't the greates camera for quickly making some photos.

Quoting akhmad (Reply 2):
I will be at DUS by then. Well, it looks like that I have to wait a little longer to read your follow up.

So it's finally happening tonight? I wish you the very best of things

Hi Eric. Thanks for your comment. I'm not sure about the BA 757's. It's too bad their out now, or will be faced out soon. I'm just so happy I still got her. Probably my last 757 flight without winglets. I really have to get on one of these German charterflights soon.

Quoting airbuseric (Reply 3):

It's the same for me. Madrid is a little boring and hot. It was my first time on this long Airbus. Flying the plane was great and thrully enjoyable. Yet I think I need to try it again on a better carrier next time to really experience the plane. As I was in a rather bad mood due to my fellow passengers and the flightcrew.

Quoting FLIEGER67 (Reply 4):

Hello Markus. Thanks for the compliments. I liked the planes of this journey. I will like to make more of these trips. Talks for my first full-time job are going on right now. If this turns out nice, I'm finally of from my student financial situation and hopefully will be able to fly a little more.

The Canaries are always a nice place to visit. No other legitimate way to get an A.net user there than on the IB808. With the A346. If I remember correctly, you have flown Binter in the past. Their very comparable. The Armas ferrie was very nice to.

Quoting PlaneHunter (Reply 5):

Hello PH. Pictures are still the same. I think Imageshack simply blocks them after so many views. I will make them a bit smaller in my next reports.

Quoting PlaneHunter (Reply 5):
Yes, they are really tasty. I guess they aren't on sale in Germany...

Maybe it's something French. It's like with some winegums that you can only buy in Spain.

Quoting PlaneHunter (Reply 5):
I got the same email after a two-hour delay on AF1980 on 18 July...

I liked the mail. It made me feel like they actually care.

Quoting PlaneHunter (Reply 5):
Yes, very good hotel. I will definitely stay there again.

Your right. Very fine and wel reachable. No need to look any further for a stay at LHR. Unless the budget allows of course.

Quoting PlaneHunter (Reply 5):
Sounds quite interesting. I'm curious to read about Islas, I flew ACE-LPA on that carrier some years ago.

Islas was so great. I flew ACE-LPA on the Binter 737-400 two years ago. It had the same departure time as a Islas flight on the same route. Needless to say they beated us a big time, just because of our need for push-back.

Quoting CrimsonNL (Reply 6):
Hey Tim, good to see you got on your favorite plane again. Though she doesn't look as good as Svandis The 757 and the alleged "757 replacement" in one day, not bad!

Hello Martijn. 757 was very nice. Your right about Svandis. Yet there is somethig about this classic interior and the lack of winglets that makes it feel so much better. Too bad the hot meal service was missing. They may think they can replace the 757 with that in Toulouse. I wish them good luck on crossing the Atlantic
Quoting CrimsonNL (Reply 6):
Looking forward to the IB report!

IB report following soon.
