Well, after about 5 years of checking out everyone's trip reports, I thought it is high time that I post one of my very own. So this is it.

The last weekend in July was when I was to make a grand appearance at my grandmothers 70th birthday in Townsville. Its always exciting to see everyone, especially my parents as they allow me to break free from living as a destitute student.

From Brisbane to Townsville QF, JQ and DJ are the usual options. Being a Qantas fan, I checked their website first and was happy with the $149 price each way and booked it straight away.

The flight outbound was QF968, departing at 0645, flight time was 2 hours on a beautiful Boeing 737 400.

The night before departure, I decided to check in online and assigned myself with seat 15C. The online checkin is really easy to use and doesn't take long at all.

The next morning I ventured through thick fog to arrive at the airport at 6am. For a Friday morning the airport was pretty quiet, and I was able to drop off my bag and head through security within about 10 minutes. Given the time, I thought I'd check my luck and switch to a window seat so I can get sleep, and sleeping up against the aircraft wall is always better then a trusty old aisle seat. The request was granted and a new boarding pass issued. Every thing was just really simple and the ground staff were great.

Boarding was on time at 6.20am and we were all settled in for pushback very quickly. Newspapers were available at the gate for all to read, but FAR OUT!!!! Let me tell ya, reading the giant Australian newspaper is so challenging in economy... I just couldn't make it work...

While taxiing out, the fog was getting really thick. Apparently there were 2 other aircraft in front of us but I could not see very far at all so I'm not too sure who they belonged to. As we made our way out to the runway, the aircraft stopped and the First officer notified the passengers that we needed 300ft of visibility and there was only 100ft and we were to stay put until the fog lifted a bit. We ended up "chilling out" for an hour and 10 minutes before we took off. The crew were great, the seatbelt sign was switched off and we could use the bathrooms and our phones during the delay on the taxiway.

After takeoff, everything went smoothly... as per my usual Qantas flights.

I moved to another row at the back of the plane so i could stretch out. I got a pillow, a blanket, some breakfast and coffee. Watched some TV, watched some ocean, cloud and land. It was just a great relaxing flight. The crew were great, and ensured all customers were happily fed and comfortable.

As we started our decent into Townsville, I gave up my 3 seats for just 1. Touched down beautifully and had my bags within about 15 minutes.

Apart from the delay due to fog, the experience was just really enjoyable. Air Travel for me, is something I really enjoy no matter who I fly with. But in saying that, Qantas just makes the journey a little more pleasant. Obviously they are full service and thats what is expected, but I just really find travel with them easy... if that makes sense.

I have also noticed the Qantas domestic product has improved significantly over the last 2 years so I really do smile when I get off a QF flight.

Thanks so much for reading my first Trip Report. Feedback is always appreciated.

Great report well done Qantas.

Where's the passion gone out of the airline industry? The smell of jetfuel and the romance of taking a flight....
