Wnt To SAN To Visit Trvlr (part 2)

From Part 1:
Left SFO on the 9:30 flight to LAX at 9:55am on United. The plane was N399UA. Sat in seat 3E. The flight was full. Had some time in LAX, then went on the 12:44 departure from LAX to SAN. Congradulations to the pilots who were very aware during taxi-out. Sat in seat 2A, in first class!

Now part 2:

And then suddenly, someone who resembled the picture of Trvlr, came walking up. I made eye contact, and walked over. We had never met before, so this was an experience.

I sad goodbye to Karyn, who sat next to me on my flight down from LAX, and Aaron and I proceeded to leave the terminal. Before leaving, I made a quick stop at teh restroom to change into street clothes.

I forgot my regular shoes, so I was stuck wearing my dress shoes! Oh well. You win some, and you loose some.

Anyway, so Aaron's dad picked us up, and dropped us off, at a shopping mall, in Downtown San Diego. I was amazed at how clean this city is! SF looks like a dump compared to San Diego!

We walked around the mall for about 2 hours. Going thorugh Sam Goody, and a few other stores, we poundered over some of the merchandise.

We walked to this toy store/hoppy shop, and Aaron bought an Air France 744 toy/model plane. I guess thats what you call it.

Later, I had a shoe lace emergency! I busted one of the laces! Well, a moth had eaten through most of it, and it just snapped! So we went into Mervyns, Levis, and macys with out luck. Finaly, we went over to Nordstrums (sp?), and they gave me a pair of laces! Many thanx!

Later, we called Aaron's dad, who picked us up, and took us over to the Windsock Resturant. They wouldn't ;et me take pictures.   I had a DL757 in the Shot, and the lady tapped me on the shoulder, and said..."we have a strict policy of not taking pictures..." Oh well.

I got the Club Sandwich, and I don't recall what Aaron had. After eating, we called Kai (OH-LGA), and talked for a few minutes. During that time, we watched a British Airways 744 land from PHX. The flight goes from LGW-PHX-SAN.

I went back over to the terminal, and changed. I got my boarding pass for flight 2136. I was seated in Zone 5...I think. I boarded through the aft door. The flight attendant Hal greated me.

He and I just hit it off. I took my seat in row 24, seat B.. which was actually an aisle. We talked for a few, and then Mia, the other flight attendant came over. Mia used to live in Palo Alto, so she and I have some things in common!

We pushed back right on time, and the safety demo was preformed. I though about snapping a picture of the demo, but did not.

At 5:50, we were airborn. Now sitting in the back of a 737 is very loud, compared to first class. It wasn't too bad.

Less than 10 minutes after take off, Hal and Mia were up and about. I ordered a Diet coke, because I do not drink beverages with sugar in them while flying. They seem to de-hydrate me.

About half way though the flight, I began to talk with Hal in the galley. He has worked with UAL for 28 years. Apperently he is an attention getter when he is purser. He sampled a few of his announcements for me. One of them was: "Ladies and Gentlemen, your safety is very important, and the safety card explains the safety features of this plane. It is so important that it is even written in seven different languages. So, even if you do not read the whole thing, read the first page. I'll wait!"

I think that that is a very good way of doing that. I told him that I would like to keep up a correspondence with him, so we exchanged email addresses.

The crew on that flight was very senior. The purser has been with UAL for 40 years! and she dosn't see retirement in her future!

The seatbelt sign came on, and I returned to my seat. After we landed...early...I talked with the flight attendants for a while. I was the last pax off of that flight. Well, that leg at least. As I exited, the first groop of people boraded for SEA.

All togther, a great trip!
I was soooooooooooooo glad to meet Aaron, and I had three wonderful flights. United did A++ work!

Mike...you learned html!

I forgot to mention that Hal thinks that Shuttle is the way of the future, and that UAL will expand Shuttle out of DIA and ORD. He thinks that more 737s would be used. He says that the 600,and 900 have potential.

He has nothing against the A320 family, but thinks that UAL will use them for mainline routes, and 737s for Shuttle

SAN is a nice area. When I lived in SFO, The nearest mall to me was tanfran mall. That place was dirty and had gangs. I went to a mall in SAN too. Not the one you were at but the one on I-8 and SR 116. That was a nice outdoor mall.

Although Stonestown on 19th av (Hwy 1 Right off of I-280) is a nice mall in SF.

LAX had construction??? What did the new terminal look like? Last time I was there the terminal was old.

When I was at LAX, they now have tiled floors, and painted walls. There are a lot of resturants, and the lightning in the terminal has been re-done.
It is looking very nice.
Mike, go and take a ride out there, its looking great!

Last time I was there the carpet was an ugly red, the walls had ugly 70s patterns on it.

I gotta go there sometime! My Uncle used to live in Marina Del Rey less than 5 miles from LAX!

Mike,

i think that SFO needs to get a face lift at the UA terminal. It too has that ugly red/grey carpet. It looks old, and LAX makes SFO seem very disgraceful.

SFO is ugly right now. The gate signs, the ugly carpets the design. Last time I was in SF, they redid the food court but everything is the same literally. I think that they should redo the terminals and SFO would look good! My dad went in the old Intl terminal and he said it was old looking too. The carpets needed change. Espically in the baggage claim area by the carosel where I puked when I was 7.

David,

I've lived in CA for about 7 years of my life and I dont recall seeing the store when I was little. In April I went back for a visit with my parents. The store probably was there; my mom probably got me orange juice from that store when I was coming back so I can take the medication that I am on.

No Jamba juice in Indy though!!
We drink smoothies but from like juice bars and DQ (Dairy Queen to you west coasters)

Although I recall seing one in woodside CA.

Rasperries, oranges, strawberries, pineapple blended together I think. They are all like that. You are also able to get a "boost" in them like Protein powder or Vitamin C.
Talk about a stereotypical California drink.

Much better than a Dilly Bar...

Jamba is everywhere here in CA. I think they have a few stores in Chicago. I could've sworn I saw one when I was there in June. Maybe they'll come to IND if they are already in the Midwest. Then again, from my experience the Midwest isn't exactly the most likely place to find trendy juice bars and the like

If you have the chance, you should try and meet some people you know well here on this site. It was pretty cool meeting ILUV767.

Well I met ILUV767 on this site; both of our dads work for UA, and we both play drums. We sent emails back and forth.

Trvlr, you are soooooo lucky to live in CA in particular SAN. You are in a nice city and you can meet a lot of people on this site. I have only found 3 people that live in Indiana.

I am young only 14, so my parents won't be to thrilled to let me fly alone. ILUV767 wanted me to meet him in DEN in the last email that he sent me.

My parents heard stuff on the news that people get killed because of internet relationships if the people arent what they turn about.

To sum it all up a smoothie is better than a blizzard and I belive that there is a David Horne living in Palo Alto California.
