Hi Guys, welcome to my 49th TR on A.Net. Actually in reality I have flown a lot more than what I posted, but many of the trips were done with the same aircraft and same route that I don’t find it interesting enough to report anymore, so only special ones will now be posted.
This trip is a semi working and holiday one. Since I was so impressed by CX suites a few months back, I decided to fly them again to LAX. Pardon for the lateness in posting this TR as the trip was done back in June, but I have just been so busy with work that I have only found time a few days ago to finish this up, plus got another 4 TR yet to be posted. Enjoy and please let me know your comments.

06 June 2010
Jakarta (CGK) – Kuala Lumpur (KUL)
Malaysia Airlines MH726
Aircraft: B737-400
Reg:9M-MQN
1st Flight:11 Feb 1997
ETD: 0500 (0630)
ETA: 0800 (0907)
Seat: 2F
Flight Time:1hr 37min

06 June 2010
Kuala Lumpur (KUL) – Hong Kong (HKG)
Cathay Pacific CX722
Aircraft: A330-300
Reg:B-HLB
1st Flight:9 Feb 1995
ETD: 1330
ETA: 1730
Seat: 18K (Business Class)
Flight Time
Preflight
As usual I went into town in KL and met up with a few friends for lunch before rushing back to the airport. Actually it would be so rushed if my earlier MH flight wasn't delayed. After arriving into the airport it was just a quick bag drop as I have done a internet check in 48 hours earlier. After passing through all the formalities I just decided to use the Plaza Premium lounge instead of the CX lounge due to the former having a smoking room. After a quick drink and smoke, off to the gate I went.

Inflight
A full flight today. And interestingly its also my first time onboard CX's A330-300 regional J config. I must say that first impressions is that its more comfortable than the regional B773 seat comfort wise. My previous CX A333 experience was on a new long haul product conflict (yes, the notorious herringbone lie flats) and A333 with the old long haul product with F class. Crew as usual were polite and efficient in carrying out their tasks. J class actually wasn't full maybe a 70% load, but economy was overbooked hence some Y passengers were upgraded. Therefore the nice aisle seat next to me that was empty now has someone in it. Although I didn't really mins as it was a pretty cute girl in her late 20's hahahahaha
Cabin Views

A rare sight docked next to us

Lavatory onboard CX A333 regional

IFE is of the older type with tiny PTV and videos are played in a loop

Menu and Meal Time

The flight itself was the normal regional type and uneventful. Due to the heavy load in both J and Y the crew did not give a personalized service albeit a polite and efficient one. Besides the service I get on regional hops in business class on MH, I find CX, TG, SQ and GA in oar, meaning, efficient and polite, but nothing special. Sorry but MH excels on these regional flights.
I spent 1 night in Hong Kong and decided to try out the new W Hotel which was great, and I was also upgraded to the suite due to my SPG Platinum status

07 June 2010
Hong Kong (HKG) – Los Angeles (LAX)
Cathay Pacific CX884
Aircraft: B777-300ER
Reg:B-KPJ
1st Flight:10 Dec 2008
ETD: 1310 (1325)
ETA: 1120 (1017)
Seat: 1K (First Class)
Flight time: 11hr 52min
Preflight
A quick one nighter at the really good W Hotel in Kowloon, convenient location for transit due to its location being above the Airport Train station, but a bit of a hassle for those that would like to go often to Hong Kong Island.
Landside at HKIA and CX First Class check in area

Arrived at the airport with 2 hours to spare and decided to spend my time at CX's The Pier lounge. Its much better and more tranquil than The Wing, but of course still nowhere near the level of TG's Royal First Lounge in BKK.

Boarding started about 10mins after I reached gate 3 which is in the beginning of airside.
B-KPJ taking me to Los Angeles

Inflight
An extremely cheerful crew onboard. 5 out of 6 seats filled in F. Really starting to love the F suites on CX. Just the right amount of privacy.

I love the way the A346 looks with SAA livery

Meals for the flight

Getting ready for pushback and take off

More cabin views and the CX Studio inflight entertainment (Which I think is one of the best)

Right after take off, meal service began and during that time I watched some sitcoms on my laptop and also a movie on the AVOD.

Midnight snack

Its gonna be a quick flight to LAX today as strongs tailwinds helped to make the flight a rather short 11hours and 52 mins. The flight itself was pretty normal except 2 hours out of Japan there was constant turbulence for the next 3 hours or so.
Breakfast and the descend into LAX

Last shot of my seat before seat belt signs were turned on

Another great CX First class experience for me and I can't wait for the return Journey.

The food looked delicious, I hope it tasted as good as it looked. How were the crew on this flight? After reading about Abrelosojos' recent CX F experience, I was hoping that what he experienced was the exception these days rather than the norm.

Thank you for an insightful trip report.

Actually, i had a great crew outbound to LAX, but on the return leg, the crew was also good, but pale in comparison to the outbound leg to LAX, so to a matter of a certain degree, i also have to agree with Abrelosojos on this matter.

I am glad you had a great flight. Thanks a lot for your report. Interestingly, your flights were before mine. I wonder if something has happened since then.

=  . Too bad the crew were inconsistent. What was the basis of this do you think?

Hi Alex !!...Actually when i recalled my other CX F trip in March, i also remembered that the crew were more helpful and cheerful on the outbound out of HKG than the inbound. I guess they might just be sad the nice stay in LA was over? heehhehehe

Another nice read, as expected

CX F does pretty decent, a nice inviting cabin and provacy without being locked away ala EK & SQ.

The regional J cabin on those 330's by contrast looks very bland.

Hi Mark, thanks for reading again! ..... Sadly thats the issue with CX, and even TG, MH and SQ on their regional inter asian flights. pretty decent equipment in that they are usually B777 family or A330 family, but really awful on premium cabins in terms of seat technology and avod. Actually right now i try to fly GA as much as possible on their new B738 within asia as they have great products in both J and Y

Funnily enough, I was just thinking of Abrelosojos's CX review when I was reading this; maybe it was the fact that Abrelosojos's review was a 744, whereas this was a 77W, but I don't think that's the real reason; it was the crew that made the difference and unfortunately, it's a question of consistency. CX, like many airlines, is squeezing costs where it can and that can have an impact on morale. It should not be the case, of course and I'm not making excuses for it, because at the end of the day, a pax who pays $x,000 for a F Class seat deserves to be treated like royalty and get a clean cabin, superb courtesy and all the trimmings.

It's disappointing to see, because CX used to be one of my favourite airlines (although I have not flown them in some time).

Hopefully the introduction of a new product range, including a new J class, expected next month, will see a renewed emphasis on courtesy and staff training. I'm sure CX, of all airlines, is well aware that you can spend millions on a new product, but if the crew aren't up to scratch, that - and not all the new seat features and AVOD - is what the pax will remember.

Hi Kaitak, what do you mean new J? Aren't their J already in the new herringbone format? Or do u mean that cx will come out with a new regional J? They really need to improve this aspect of their product. N of course stop cutting corners on crew service levels

WOW, wish I could do a trip report like that, you really put that together well.
And that shot of the two fried eggs awesome, wish I could cook like that on the ground.
That product over all is fab, something I will consider for a LHR_SYD trip I have planned, many thanks for the time and effort.

Those were definitely the best eggs i have ever had onboard an aircraft...CX prides itself in making fresh eggs on board
