Introduction
Dear fellow A.netters,
Since Qatar Airways booking confirmation was delivered last year December, I was eagerly waiting for the moment to get on board. Fast forwarded to August 19th , I found myself and my partner setting off for the Lufthansa check-in area in Munich to collect our onward boarding passes to Düsseldorf. Time really flies when you are having fun.
Hotel reservation
For our driving safety’s sake upon our arrival, we decided to remain overnight in DUS. There are two hotels connected to the airport terminal, Sheraton Düsseldorf Airport and Maritim Hotel Düsseldorf. Since Sheraton would have charged EUR 110 instead of Maritim’s EUR 89 for a similar arrangement, it was easy for us to make a choice.

This part will cover our LH flight from MUC to DUS and our stay at Maritim Hotel.

After getting cleared by the immigration, we entered the public area of Terminal 2.
LH Business Class ticketing desks

The LH J check-in desks are located right on the opposite of the J ticketing desks. Interestingly, there was a single zigzagged check-in lane in front of the check-in desks. The entrance was supervised by a yellow shirted LH lady.

As there was practically nobody in front of us, we could walk straight forward and get attended almost immediately by check-in agent Mr. Besson at desk 453.

“Everything is OK. Your luggage has been registered in our system,” Mr. Besson said while issuing our boarding passes. “Here are your boarding passes to Düsseldorf. Have a nice flight,”
The whole process took less than five minutes. I just love such efficiency!

As J passengers, we were entitled to use the First and Business Class security check lane.

After a glance at our boarding passes , we were allowed further entrance. The following security check was correct and efficient. Although a security official inquired us to switch on our DSLR camera for a further check, we were airside after another five minutes.

The J lounge is located upstairs. Once you are there, you will get to know who is its proud owner and to whom the lounge is dedicated.

The lounge was not particularly crowded, especially on the right wing. We decided to spend our few minutes there with each a glass of whisky.

There was an obvious interior division of the right wing. The area around the stairway was designed in the ambience of Biergarten.

At 14.20, boarding call was made. There was no separate call for premium passengers, hence everyone just lined up.

For the first time, we had to use the self boarding machine. I must say, I was excited about it. As soon as the machine bleeped upon scanning my boarding pass, the automatic door opened. My partner and I just followed others downstairs. G41 turned out to be a bus gate.

I love boarding from a bus gate, especially at a spotter friendly airport like MUC. As the bus ride took nearly ten minutes, it gave me a nice spotting opportunity underway.

As we got seated, Ms. Galda appeared to offer an array of newspapers and magazines to the J passengers. My partner took a magazine, while I politely refused her offer as I could keep myself occupied. This service was soon followed by refreshing tissue distribution.

D-AILW was engulfed by a thick cloud layer for couple seconds, before escaping it to a sunny higher level.

At 14.55, the fasten seat belt signs were switched off. Ms. Galda started snack distribution.

The size was just enough for me after our previous QR’s meal indulgence. The cake was moist and not too sweet to my liking.
Mr. Fischer followed five minutes later with the drink cart. “Do you want anything to drink?”
“Can we both have whisky, please?” we replied.
“Certainly. Do you want coffee or tea to go with it?”
“No, thank you,”

At 15.05, D-AILW banked rather sharp to the left, partially revealing German landscape.

At 15.20, Ms. Galda returned to J cabin and stopped by. “Would you need anything else?”

Ms. Galda then started to collect the rubbish, while Mr. Fischer distributed mini ice cream bar.

Right after finishing the rubbish collection, Ms. Galda announced that we would be landing in DUS within twenty minutes. Captain Netz followed her up at 15.30 that we were leaving our cruising altitude for landing. The fasten seat belt signs were illuminated.
D-AILW banked to the left, thrust its way into the lower thick cloud layer and lined up in a landing pattern.

Full brakes were applied after touch down. Apparently D-AILW hit halfway the runway and was in need to vacate the runway as soon as possible. Through the exit in front of Terminal B, D-AILW made its way to Terminal A.

Overview
There are plenty baggage trolleys available at each belt. We did not need any as we only had one checked luggage together. However, it took a while before we got reunited with our luggage. The priority tags seemed to be applied only after a QR flight but not beyond.
It was past 16.00 as we entered the public area on our way to Maritim Hotel.

Tobias took charge of our check-in. Unfortunately, I cannot remember which room number he assigned us. The only thing I know is that we were pleasantly surprised by our room. It turned out to be the cleanest and best maintained one we ever encountered during our summer holiday. We gladly spent our jet-lagged evening here.

LH service in this flight seems to me very decent. I have always encountered a bunch of crew members flying domestic flights. Service tends to be the same on all flights, a piece of cake and some drinks, last time I spilt the coffee cup all over me.... BTW, it was in a plastic cup... I did not get any ice cream just two chocolates.

You haven't? Then I badly recommend visiting one, of course in Bavaria, if possible! LH's "Biergarten" looks classy and everything, but the atmosphere and equipment in a traditional one is quite different. I found this picture which depicts it pretty well, I find.

I've always been curious about those convertible seats..when they convert the middle seat and bring the tray down, do the arm rests move in, make the actual J seats (window and aisle) a little wider? It seems to be that to count as a J seat you should have SOME extra room/comfort. If not, I would almost prefer NOT to have the tray and have the arm rests up and have the two J pax just share the middle seat....
The ice cream sandwich is cute (but after so much traveling someone could use a good manicure!)

Your series has been very informative, introducing some of us to destinations that few have travelled to. The mix of three classes and five airlines made sure that it would never be dull. I really don't like her uniform. Bearing in mind she's at the C-Class desks, it looks a bit too casual for my liking.
MUC really seems to be an excellent airport. I love the free tea & coffee they offer, what a special touch. It's also very interesting to hear about a German domestic flight in business. The offerings seem fine for a 50 minute flight - the cake looks delicious.
Now that you've finished your series, there's only one thing for it.......book some more flights

You can fold the armrests if you like. We did not really bother it as it was a short flight
