Hi there and welcome on my first trip report!
My story begins at my birthday , september 6th.
I was already aware what kind of weather it would be in Belgium/Holland during October/November.
So I decided to book a trip. But to where?
I heard AB opened DUS-DXB so that could be a possability.
But when I checked the fares, I screamed my lungs out. Too much for a student I'd say.
So why not FR? They are descent, and the fares are always ok.
Well then, let's check their famous website. I noticed they started a new route to MLA from EIN!
And since Malta was on my list , -to visit once in my life-, I checked the fares for the first flight from EIN to MLA on
October 31th. Yes Halloween. But going alone would be a little boring so I searched for a travelpartner.
My aunt wasn't busy at that period and since she went to Budapest and Prague with me , I knew she was a good travelpartner. So I called her up and she said YES! take me with you. for 180 euros for 2 persons return, we were booked on the first flight...

Eindhoven is a small airport with more and more lowcost flights. FR has 21 destinations from EIN now, and Wizzair.com has around 7 I guess. also, Cityjet operates a 2 daily flight to LCY with a F50.
Eindhoven is also a military airbase with some nice military planes from the Dutch Army.
By mrpilotismyname at 2010-11-04
well then, off we go! let's go to the securitycheck.
By mrpilotismyname at 2010-11-04
ugh Dutch people really like the cheese odor don't they ? By mrpilotismyname at 2010-11-04
FR from MAD. EI-EFD
By mrpilotismyname at 2010-11-04
Cityjet F50 standing there.. doing nothing.. it preforms 2 flights a day.. but between those 2 flights.. it's just standing there at EIN.
our aircraft landed some minutes after the FR one... with a Tailwind aircraft who was flying to AYT for Corendon.com
boarding our FR EI-DCP to MLA... next to our EI-DCP, a tailwind aircraft. It's a pretty new airline in Europe/Turkey
By mrpilotismyname at 2010-11-04
this picture is taken in the aircraft, that's EIN's main terminal with the 3 famous flags, EIN flag, Dutch flag and European flag.
soon the flight attendant was giving the inflightmagazines, I like this one.. cover looked great and the inside was cool too. By mrpilotismyname at 2010-11-04
By mrpilotismyname at 2010-11-04
right, I was kinda hungry at 12.00h so I ordered some food. A chicken sandwich with something else I don't know what it was. with my favorite drink on FR flights, J2O !
By mrpilotismyname at 2010-11-04
well well well, if it isn't mister Stelios!
LANDED. after a short and heavy landing, we taxied to our gate.. I was surprised to see that many Air Malta planes and this beauty By mrpilotismyname at 2010-11-04
By mrpilotismyname at 2010-11-04
goodbye EI-DCP thanks for the ride!
so we took the bus to our hotel which was the cheapest way and we saw some pretty things on the route to our hotel.
For your information, Malta has a catproblem.. too many cats so if you want one for free, go and get one over there.
so the next day we decided to discover Malta by bike.
We saw on booking.com that the hotel offers bikes.
so the evening before we talked with Clint, a receptionist and he said the bikes were 10 euros/person/day.
next day, we decided to rent the bike but the fares went up , now it was 16 euros/person/day.
We told the receptionist that Clint told us it was only 10 euros. so the receptionist was kinda mad and offered us a bike for 10 euros and he gave us a free bottle of water for the misunderstanding. Nice touch!
back to the hotel after a bikeride of 50-60km .. I needed a cold shower and a snack By mrpilotismyname at 2010-11-07
We decided to go to Valletta for dinner so we took a bus to Valletta and searched a good restaurant over there which wasn't very difficult.
By mrpilotismyname at 2010-11-07
our bus after the trip from our hotel to Valletta main busstation.
after a very nice dinner, we walked back to the mainbusstation and I saw this very funny board.. By mrpilotismyname at 2010-11-07looks like it's a travelagency from the 90's DAY 3
Time to discover Valletta during daylight!
And we took another cute old bus heading to the capitol of Valletta.
We discovered the War Museum of Malta, but the weather was too nice to spend some hours in an indoor museum
So I took some pictures of the outside. By mrpilotismyname at 2010-11-07
many soldiers died in Malta during WW2. German, Italian, English, American, Greek, etc...
By mrpilotismyname at 2010-11-07
I think Harbor Air Malta lands here... (?)
By mrpilotismyname at 2010-11-07
huge boats for importing Heineken
time to go back to our hotel for dinner and some swimming in the swimmingpool!
DAY 4
hmm what can we do on our last day in Malta.. Right ! Let's visit Mdina and Rabat. 2 well known cities and many culture to see. When we arrived we were kind of surprised how many tourists there can be on 1 island?!
from Denmark, U.K., Norway, Russia,Sweden, you name it, they were there:D
By mrpilotismyname at 2010-11-07
see, catproblem!
time to go back to our hotel and pack our things, we had an early morning flight leaving around 07.25h and the receptionist advised us to leave at 05.00h. Cause it will be rush hour in Malta.
Well if he says so, let's trust him and wake up around 04.00h
DAY 5
Rise and shine.. ugh this is too early for a human being. When we arrived at the reception, there was nobody there! Panic till we heard a person snorring somewhere in the lobby, it was the receptionist -_-'
The taxidriver came in and woke him on a Maltesian way, he started singing and clapping and he woke up
I was like : '' Am I still dreaming? :| ''
that was the fastest Check-out in my life. The friendly cabdriver helped us with our luggage and off we go!
after a 25 mins ride, we payed him 22 euros like he told us in the beginning.
I was kind of nervous to see the rushhour at MLA.
But when we arrived I laughed pretty hard. only 3 flights leaving with us.
one to Milan, one to Orly and one to London. all Air Malta.
right.. Rushhour.
By mrpilotismyname at 2010-11-07
It sure looks the check-in desks can't stand the rushhour anymore! it's too busy xD

after some trouble with the boarding,(people who didn't understand the priority system) we entered the plane and I was sitting at the exact same seat as the previous flight By MrPilotIsMyName at 2010-11-07
By mrpilotismyname at 2010-11-07
sorry about the bad picture, still some rain on the window from the night I guess
Ready for take-off!
before us, the Milan flight departed and the pilot said he will not depart from the start of the runway but somewhere in the middle cause the runway was big/long enough for the B737-800AS. By mrpilotismyname at 2010-11-07
By mrpilotismyname at 2010-11-07
I think Mister Stelios was following us :|
By mrpilotismyname at 2010-11-07
quicker than I've expected, we started our descent. The pilot warned us it will be a shocky landing cause there were low hanging clouds at EIN and heavy winds too. Sounds like an amazing landing:P
By mrpilotismyname at 2010-11-07
during our taxi to the gate, I saw this strange looking aircraft which I haven't seen before.. reg. OM-CCA
does anyone knows if this airline is new or ?
By mrpilotismyname at 2010-11-07arrived. back in grey, rainy Belgium/Holland.
conclusion:
Ryanair.com is a good option if you want to go out for a good price. just follow their rules and you'll be fine!
Eindhoven Airport is my favorite airport. Don't ask me why..
Air Malta seems ok, but I heard their prices are too high.
Luqa aiport was a bit boring and very very busy! xD
Malta , well expect me back within 1 year
thank you for reading!
regards,
Niekos

Hey Niek !
I am glad that you had a great time in Malta Now I really want to go there - hopefully soon. And it seems like you had decent flights with FR - its sad that there were no festives to mark this inaugural flight , well they are a LCC but still :S

Hahahaha yea , well lets hope they lower their fares haha
Hey Islam, thanks for your comment
I'll visit DXB when I have the money and when the fares are dropped:D i'll promise
well on the return flight, the crew had this better uniforms , I thought it was for celibrating their first flight back?
and they hand out the inflightmagazines, they removed all seat pockets.. sadly.
ah well, they hand out newspapers these days so that's an improvement!

Niekos

Jk
Good thing you came back! A proof that with as much publicity they get they still get passengers to their destinations.
Quoting photoshooter (Thread starter): soon the flight attendant was giving the inflightmagazines, I like this one..
I prefer safety cards!

We could have a meet-up with our little group!
Thank you for your trip report, Niek. Looks like you had a good time in Malta.
I would say... why not post pictures that are a little bigger?
Other than that, everything is very good for a first trip report!!!
Wishing you many more fun trips and see you in NIce sometime in the near future!!
There was a better way to fly it was called Concorde
Quoting photoshooter (Thread starter): Malta has a catproblem.. too many cats so if you want one for free, go and get one over there.
So sad, i found the same problem in Tangier, Morocco in 2009, too many homeless cats and dogs.
Quoting photoshooter (Thread starter): so the receptionist was kinda mad and offered us a bike for 10 euros and he gave us a free bottle of water for the misunderstanding. Nice touch!
Indeed nice touch!

Let me ad some info here, those buses are old because the goverment decided they will stay at it, and that they won't be changing those for new ones since they want to stay unique, i wonder how they will manage to get some "new" parts in the future if they need some for those buses.

Hello(!),
Just to say many thanks for the report/pics etc. I also like Ryanair and find them quite cheap and good enough (although they're not as cheap as they used to be). Thanks for the virtual visit to Malta. It looks like a pretty nice place to spend a few days relaxing. I have been to Eindhoven for a day trip with Ryanair and I liked the airport too. I visited Eindhoven and took a train to Maastricht too which was cool.

woot woot seems like ya had a good trip. cant wait to go back to europe and finally fly on ryanair myself one day. reminds me of us airways, they get the job done for a good price and have lots of options/frequencies, although US is a bit nicer i think.
Hey,
it's 60-80kms south of Amsterdam city.
There's a bus at eindhoven airport going to Eindhoven train station every 10-15 mins.
from there you can take a train to Amsterdam which will take like 1 and an half hour
thanks for reading,

Methinks that one of the main disadvantage of our flying hobby is that it collides with my second favorite hobby, sleeping.

While I generally tend to dislike FR, there for sure are certain situations where they offer clear advantages that are worth of taking the extra effort that goes along with them.
Just a little bit of criticism... I personally prefer it if the pictures are larger... and also the picture details make it a little bit difficult to read. Maybe as an idea for next time.
Hi Bob! thanks for all the good comments!
I really don't understand the problem with the pictures...
But you learn so much with making a second TR so I'll expect a better one next time
I might go back during March with Air Malta this time so I hope the weather will be the same or even better.
apologies for the smaller pictures..
greetings,
Photoshooter
