WOW unique photos and amazing trip. I always wanted to go to Kish. The A/C types you got on were great. I would love to visit Iran again someday. That Iranian lunch brings back memories! IIRC the rice had sweet currants or similar in it. Lovely food.
Love the museam I think that must be a real experience to see.
Thanks for the great report.

Fantastic report!
Looks like you picked all the right planes to fly on.
707 and TU-154.
I haven't been on a 707 since 1978 so I am long overdue for another Boeing 707 flight.

What to say about Iran. It´s quite difficult, because a lot of people just see this country only as nuclear enemy or in similar way. When I went there for the first time about 10 years ago, my family and friends were mad, they warned me before this country, just because they knew Iran only from medias, which are not reporting about Iran very nice.
True is completely different. Iran is wonderful country, with great people, who are nice, friendly, very inteligent and who definitely don´t live with hate to Western world. I have been there 4 times and always had the best experiences. I´ve learned farsi language for a years, so it helped me a little bit to understand menthality and mind of Iranian people.
Of course, I know, nothing is just black or white. I´ve travel a lot in past years, around lot of countries and I know, that everywhere are good and bad people and Iran is not any rose garden. But there are things, which we should learn from Persian nation. I´m bonded with their culture for rest of my life, I´m enriched so much by my trips to this country and will keep respect to Iran forever.

Iran is indeed very different than what some in the west might think and through your pictures
it looks truly beautiful.
thanks for sharing!

Hi Yirina,
This is definitely something we do not get to see frequently. Very beautiful report! I love the way you have built it up. Every part from the aviation museum until your personal pictures of Iran is a joy to read.
The aviation museum looks like a great place to be. I especially like your Kissing Jumbo.

Fantastic report! I'm planning a trip at the moment, so it's great to see what to expect.
Would you (or anyone else who has done a trip to Iran) advise against a western guy travelling alone there for the purpose of travelling on some internal flights, or is it not likely to be an issue? Is it likely to be a struggle with not speaking the language?

Once again thanks for posting

It´s absolutely OK travel alone on domestic flights. Young Iranian people mostly like to talk with foreigners. When we were sitting at the airport and wait for boarding, few times some students came to us, very politely introduced themself and asked us where we are from, how do we like Iran etc...They proudly said that they learn english and we were great opportunity to practice converstaion skills You don´t need speak farsi, most of young people there speak (or they try to) english and are happy for speaking with you..
Quoting MH017 (Reply 15): The F50 and TU154M flights were also taken care off by that travel-agency, or did you book that seperately ?
Our tickets has been arranged by travel agency. It´s problem, that those airlines are not bookable outside Iran (except UAE I guess). But when you come to Iran, you can go to some agency or airline desk at the airport directly and buy tickets. They absolutely can not understand, why you are looking for flights operated only by Tupolevs or Yaks or Boeing 707...They have offered us flight with Airbus, I said no, please we are realy looking for Tupolev. They started to argue, that Airbus is good and save.. It was fun.

Wow, great images!
Looks like you had a superb time in Iran, its when you see images like these of the 'normal' Iran and people going about their daily lives you remember to ignore the bad stuff you read in the papers and on TV.
Love the aviation Museum, would happily visit just to go there!

Very lovely Trip Report! I enjoyed all the pictures. It is great you flown a B707 with Saha. I flown the same route Tehran to Kish as my first B707 flight in 2004, and my flight have the same flight number, 170 as yous!
If you're going back to Iran for the 5th time, I am sure I can come onboard with some of your help in Farsi!

This is so funny!
Great trip report and pictures! Thank you very much!
I have not gone back to Tehran since the days of Concorde and the Shah in the late 60's. The Shah and Empress were flown from Paris to Kish on the first Concorde prototype. Iran Air was going to have Concorde but it never happened.
So much has changed there since and now I want to go back.
I am thinking of a side trip when I will be in Bahrain in March. Iran is a fantastic country with so many years of history and civilization! Iranians are wonderful, kind, welcoming and often so good looking!
Thank you again for this trip report.
Iran is not the country that is constantly depicted by the Western media.
There was a better way to fly it was called Concorde
