So time to head back home after a nice 10 days in Lebanon, I was not looking forward to being in the arctic conditions that were being experienced in Ireland but nothing I could do. My friend dropped me off at the airport at 3am for the 0510am flight to Cairo.

Sign on the way to the airport:

Upon entering the terminal building you go through security and X Ray all items before checking in, this took no more than a few minutes. The guy asked me what the bottle was in my suitcase which was a bottle of Lebanese Arak 54%
The guy smiled and wished me a good flight. Check in was a short que in the Business Class line. The guy in front had 3 cases weighing 85 Kilos! Thought I was bad .

The lounge was very Star Alliance and nothing unique about it, snacks were limited but plenty of soft drinks and free fast wifi which was a plus . Couldnt fault it but nothing special.

Soon it was time to head to the gate. Another security check and a bit like organised chaos, the guy looked at my boarding card and passport with all the Lebanese stamps in them and asked where I am coming from. I said ''Beirut'' he looked at my page on my passport and then my photo twice very carefully then raised his eyebrows then handed me back my passport, I did the same back then walked on. Something about Cairo airport I didnt like and some shady looking characters hanging around. Cant place my finger on it just a feeling.

Anyway soon time to board and I was welcomed at the fork in the air bridge by a friendly guy who directed me to the left side for Business class boarding, I liked this direct access to J class. When I got to the aircraft door I was greeted by two friendly FA's and shown to my seat. So far very impressed the interior was really nice.

A bit dry and bland , I would prefer Canape style with Salmon or similar.

Soon time to try out the Wifi which costs $29 . In the end before I went to purchase I decided to use my iPhone instead, I am pay as you go with Vodafone Ireland and it just took $29 off my credit balance for the whole flight.

Time to thank the crew and disembark. At the top of the air bridge ground agents were giving out Fast Track passes to Business Class passengers. I didnt need one as British passport holder.

Soon it was time to head to the gate for boarding. We had a delay due to inbound late arrival of the aircraft.

The food is basic and nothing to write home about. They need to up their game, even the sandwich was dry and basic. The Pepsi was nice though  http://i955.photobucket.com/albums/ae40/PhilipOA260/ms/395_800x600.jpg

So after a short flight it was time to land into DUB. Bags were a bit delayed and my bag with priority tag on was in the last batch ! When will Dublin get it right .

http://i955.photobucket.com/albums/ae40/PhilipOA260/ms/401_800x600.jpg

So I stepped out of the terminal and was blasted by freezing cold air. I was frozen. It really was arctic . I had to wait for the bus which was 40 minutes late due to the snow and ice.

Fantastic yet again Philip! Sounds like your MS experience was a lot better than mine due to the fact that the flights ran smoothly. On my CAI-LHR leg, we didn't get the small snack at all. They just went straight for lunch service. Also, no menus, it was just "here's what I have left, do you want it?". Lol!! The seats on your BEY-CAI A320 looked very similar to the 735 I was on and the meal looked identical.

Good that your bags made all the connections. I was mightily relieved I carried mine on as there's no way it would have got to DUB with all the chaos involved!

Thanks again for another wonderful trip. Hope we can do it again some time

According to one of my colleagues, my problem is that I'm addicted to travel!

Wow! fantastic report with fantastic pictures. Egypt Air's 330 looks quite impressive, as well as the Cairo and Beirut airports.

Hey Philip,

An outstanding return portion of your trip. This is the first time I have seen internal pictures at BEY and the airport seems very nice. I loved the glass roof and the spacious feeling it had. The pictures of the apron looked great as the background of the hill and mountains I presume were all lit up.

Quoting oa260 (Thread starter):
The guy in front had 3 cases weighing 85 Kilos! Thought I was bad .

Was he carrying the kitchen sink as well? LOL!

Quoting oa260 (Reply 1):
As we were making our way to the runway amenity kits were handed out, I was not expecting one so a nice touch and some nice items inside.

Not bad considering it's a day flight.

Quoting oa260 (Reply 2):
Soon time to try out the Wifi which costs $29 . In the end before I went to purchase I decided to use my iPhone instead, I am pay as you go with Vodafone Ireland and it just took $29 off my credit balance for the whole flight.

Looking forward to using that service on WY next year although the price isn't to appealing!

Quoting oa260 (Reply 2):
The chocolate cake was the best part of the meal and very nice.

Looks very tasty indeed.

Quoting oa260 (Reply 3):
So I stepped out of the terminal and was blasted by freezing cold air. I was frozen. It really was arctic . I had to wait for the bus which was 40 minutes late due to the snow and ice.

Welcome home! LOL!

I have to say that this is a very positive outcome for MS with their new aircraft. Their new Business Class product also looks very fresh and nice with the dark blue interior. Also can't fault the cabin crew who were all positive and had smiles which is not the case when flying in Economy (I know from experience).

No doubt now that you're back home in the freezing cold you wish you were back in Beirut.

Fantastic yet again Philip! Sounds like your MS experience was a lot better than mine due to the fact that the flights ran smoothly. On my CAI-LHR leg, we didn't get the small snack at all.

Hey Gareth thanks alot , I wish I was with you on the return , we have a fun time travelling together. We will for sure take a trip soon , sorry if the destination is a bit repeated   Have to check with the boss lol...

Wow! fantastic report with fantastic pictures.

Thanks alot Im glad you liked it .

Quoting AI151 (Reply 6):

I have to say that this is a very positive outcome for MS with their new aircraft. Their new Business Class product also looks very fresh and nice with the dark blue interior.

Yes I was mixed feelings taking this trip and wasnt hoping for much after reading comments but the only thing I could fault was the food, the seat was really comfortable and wifi and crew really nice. I wouldnt hesitate to fly again.

I have to say again though that my favourite airline to BEY is still MEA , they IMHO are the most under reported and rated Middle Eastern carrier.

BTW yes I wish I was back in Beirut for sure. Im in Athens now though so cant complain.

I had a feeling you were somewhere in Greece as your current location had changed. Looks like you definitely don't want to spend much time in the cold. How long were you back home for before you left again?

Looks like your MS flights were pretty good. Services seemed far better than my flight last year BKK-PEK, which was pretty awful. The only redeeming feature was the food - it looked like they still do that well. The new seats look great.

Hey it seems its a bit mixed on MS but I have to say I did like them. The seats were really comfortable and I loved the Maps, they had HD ones, there were about 6 to choose from.

Hola Philip!

Another great TR.

Why go back directly from BEY if you can fly through CAI? That is the true a.netter spirit, keep it up!

I am really impressed by MS, they have a really nice B777, the seats look really great but surely the IFE is their best point here, it looked really modern and with tones of information, no way to get bored there.

A really nice airline and from what you said about the FAs it seems they offer a pretty nice product. Great! Another one to try.

As I mentioned on the other reply to your Lebanon pictures, you are really a great asset to that country. I had never seen anything like that about Lebanon before.

All the best in the coming trips, what next? Maybe DUB-ZRH-JNB-BOM-BEY?....

Salut!

Hi Philip,

Nice report on one of the seemingly least flown Star Carriers, at least here on A.NET.

Quoting oa260 (Thread starter):
Something about Cairo airport I didnt like and some shady looking characters hanging around. Cant place my finger on it just a feeling.

- Had the same feeling in JNB the other week.

Quoting oa260 (Thread starter):
The headsets were not very good and more like something you would get in Y class on other airlines.

- Indeed, look pretty cheap and nasty.

Quoting oa260 (Thread starter):
A bit dry and bland , I would prefer Canape style with Salmon or similar

- That's a poor first impression of the meal service, looks like something I would expect in Y.

I have to be honest, the rest of the meal service/offering did not inspire me at all, given the great new cabin, the ability to have wifi for work, the meal service is sadly lacking, at least from my view.

Re the wifi, shame they charge J customers for it, the relatively small cost is a bit of a mean charge when you have forked out hundreds of pounds for a J seat.

Cheers

Mark

The interior on the A320 looks indeed really oldfashioned, much better on the A330.

Really good report, Philip!

Great report of your flights with Egyptair. The Business Class service from CAI-LHR looks pretty good! Wow, the new cabin certainly looks nicer than photos of the older one that I've seen before. I remember flying on a Egyptair 747-300 from JFK-CAI-JFK back in 1997; how things have changed for the airline since then!!

Hi Phillip

Once again you produce an outstanding report with many great pics.

Egyptair Business Class service looks OK. The Seats and the IFE look good but it looks like they could improve some of the smaller things like the headphones and the catering.

The Airports of the world feature on the IFE looks useful but I don't know why airports half way around the world like AKL & BNE were on the list. MS don't even serve Oceania.

Hi Philip,

Another marvelous installment of yours with so many beautiful pictures all the way long.

Nice to know that CAI T3 development has been progressing a lot since I was there. I like both lounges in the terminal. They are well laid and more charming than the other one we visited last year.

The IFE on board of A333 looks impressive. I did not expect to see such crisp display with many choices around including on-board Internet. Good job of MS!

The MS A333 J class seats look identical to QR's product. They must be from the same manufacturer.

I must say,im very impressed by MS's J class product and so too the lounge in CAI which looks so nice and proper. Truly a class act.

Infact the whole new terminal at CAI looks impressive - BEY looked very good as well.

Are we allowed to carry liquid through the pre-check in security? It is not the case in DPS, for instance.

This is to even get into the terminal to the main check ini area, similar to IST. The security is before the gates in BEY.Also even if you buy bottles in duty free they are not allowed to seal them, apparantly the category for BEY is under international requirements and EU countries will not accept sealed bags of duty free for transit in EU airports. Thats what I was told by the guy in duty free when I wanted to buy some Lebanese wine.

Hi im glad you like that format. I prefer photos than long writing sometimes photos are worth a thousand words as they say. I like my reports to be easy reading and not too taxing.   Everyone has their own format , I enjoy reading long reports with words sometimes especially a few members on here who have great writing skills and a bit of humor thrown in. I look forward to your report , I love A380 ones.
