Some local pics first before going further with more flights.

Benidorm is a place I´ve never been, but read something about it.
What about a ride on the FGV, "Ferrocarril de la Generalitat Valenciana", a commuter shuttle train between Alicante and Denia, 3.00 Euro´s from Calpe to Benidorm return.
The train station looks like somewhere in Africa

And finally reaching Calpe again

Autobusesifach shuttles us down in the city for 1.00 Euro´s,
and finally back at the hotel.

Some more flying comes up at Monday.

Voramar el Gaucho runs for 3.00 Euro´s to the middle of town, a shaking and rattling experience, so bad, never expected something like this in the European Union.
Well, I recognize the driver and saw him later at the airport again when his vehicle goes tech, dropping water of the engine compartment.

Back to the airport, where the next bus goes tech on the way, we wait some twenty minutes on the road for a technician, not a problem for me, but some other pax got really in a hectic.
Well, not the best reliability here with these company.

Service Iberia IB 8109 operated by Air Nostrum
Scheduled: 15.35 // 16.15

There is only one ab service between these two islands beside a
good number of Iberia/Air Nostrum flights.
For sure the reason for the relative high fare,
80.00 Euro´s, booking is managed via Exp.de.
First a view to the terminal
http://i22.photobucket.com/albums/b305/FLIEGER67/E1002/E1002231.jpg
Oldfashioned interior
http://i22.photobucket.com/albums/b305/FLIEGER67/E1002/E1002233.jpg
Check-in is done via the self service kiosks, no problem to locate my reservation.
An absolutely unusal seat for me this time, 1A.
Through security in no time and in the gate area.
You know that most airports around the world manage a shop where you can buy local products as a souvenir when you leave the place.
This is also here at Ibiza the case, the worlds best known local product is on sale here, everything around the Pacha clubs

And there is not only a Pacha shop here, no Amnesia sells also
his local products

EC-HEJ "Carrasca" is the scheduled AT72, in service since 01.07.1999 for Air Nostrum, leg no. 19 on type and a new registration. One of five examples in the fleet
http://i22.photobucket.com/albums/b305/FLIEGER67/E1002/E1002247.jpg
Well, the Air Nostrum guys count the seats from the back to the front, so 1A is the last row window, the complete four seats in the row for me, seat recline is possible.
Very oldfashioned black leather seats,
well used, not that really clean, but good legroom in the last row. The safety demo is manual.
Load is 80%, mostly biz pax on the way
http://i22.photobucket.com/albums/b305/FLIEGER67/E1002/E1002248.jpg
Let´s go for runway 24, it is 3.40 pm, close to ontime, sunny, no clouds to see at all and the temperature is 31 degrees, 25 minutes for PMI
http://i22.photobucket.com/albums/b305/FLIEGER67/E1002/E1002249.jpg
Cockpit crew is from Spain, no comment all around.

It feels, we´re falling down to the ground, so steep and shaking.
Some pax started to shout, but we made it safe and taxi very fast to our parking stand.
It is 4.20 pm, close to ontime, high clouds only and the temperature is 29 degrees.

Service AB 7554 operated by airberlin
Scheduled: 18.40 // 19.40

Check-in for this leg is done from the hotel, but no printer, like mostly at the hotels. So I decide to catch the paper at the airport.
Looks like no problem, isn´t it?.
Well, there is a big AB counter, but the female agent told me that they can only provide informations for transfer pax or sell tickets here.
Check-in is completely sourced out to Acciona, there is a desk around the corner. Sure, there is one, but it´s closed.
Back to AB, I should wait, they open the counter soon, for sure.
And she´s also not sure if it´s possible to catch the paper at the gate during boarding.
It seems it´s time enough to go out in the puplic, catch the paper there and be back ready ontime, better safe than sorry.
Done this, a not that friendly female agent printed it for me, some five minutes at security and back in the gate area.
Where, no question, as long as I was there and wait for boarding nobody staffed and opened the Acciona counter.
The fare is 30.00 Euro´s, managed via Exp.de.
Let me check the screen, gate C46 for me
http://i22.photobucket.com/albums/b305/FLIEGER67/E1002/E1002267.jpg
Seat 29F, window last row as usual and once more, three seats for me with a load of 90%, recline is possible.

Very interesting daytrip.
The Air Nostrum Dash8 in Arik air colours is a really cool bird, do you know why they dont change the livery?
The meal on the LH flight also looks quite good .

Hi Markus,

Great report and very nice pictures. Some summer holiday feeling is nice on a cold winter day like today.

What about a ride on the FGV, "Ferrocarril de la Generalitat Valenciana", a commuter shuttle train between Alicante and Denia, 3.00 Euro´s from Calpe to Benidorm return.

Yes, a short side trip by train is always interesting.

Quoting FLIEGER67 (Reply 1):
Back to the airport, where the next bus goes tech on the way, we wait some twenty minutes on the road for a technician, not a problem for me, but some other pax got really in a hectic.
Well, not the best reliability here with these company.

Not impressive indeed. The success of an airport transfer service is always closely connected with its reliability.

Quoting FLIEGER67 (Reply 1):
An absolutely unusal seat for me this time, 1A.

Quoting FLIEGER67 (Reply 1):
Well, the Air Nostrum guys count the seats from the back to the front, so 1A is the last row window

Ah, that explains a lot. I was already wondering what went wrong here...

Hi Markus,

Again very nice and informative report. I like the way you incorporate the flights, the train ride, the scenery of Dalt Vila and Costa Blanca with Markus jr as a model into the whole journey. It makes me feel I was there with you.

It must have been exciting to catch another two new registrations during this segment.

Vueling looked OK indeed. At least you did not get scalded for taking pictures.

LH was impressive by serving hot meal and sparkling wine in intra European Y flight. Well done, LH!

Quite odd of AB that they could not print out your boarding pass at the airport.

Hi Markus,

Another welcome breath of summer sun!

We took a trip to Benidorm when we spent a few days in Alicante. I wanted to see the place, but now I can safely say I've ticked it off my list and don't need to return. And the Penon, bet it was hard work in those temperatures. Did you see the birds at the top? They were a bit too agressive for my liking.

Quoting FLIEGER67 (Thread starter):
no clouds at all and the temperature is 27 degrees

I've forgotten what that feels like.

Nice to see your impressions of Ibiza, although that whole bus business sounds far from satisfactory. I can understand the other passengers getting a bit on edge.

Fancy row 1 being at the back of the aircraft on Air Nostrum. Just imagine if you'd asked to change your seat and ended up at the front! The landing in PMI doesn't sound like my cup of tea though. And you could have done without the added stress of having to go back out to check-in to get your boarding pass. Incredible that with AB's big hub there there was no desk to get one from.

Check-in is completely sourced out to Acciona, there is a desk around the corner. Sure, there is one, but it´s closed.

That's quite odd, especially considering how big of an operation AB have at PMI.

Hi Markus,

Nice to see another part of your summer travels up! As others have already mentioned, looking at those nice sunshine pictures sure warms me up - it's minus eight and snowing heavily outside right now.

Great to see the "other Ibiza" - you usually hear only about the nightclubs and wild parties, something which definitely isn't your type I guess - neither is it really mine. That Air Nostrum ATR was a great catch as well, not too common birds these. I've flown once with Air Nostrum, that was a very long flight BIO-SVQ operated by the Dutch carrier Denim Air on a Dash-8 300, very good service there as well although our first plane went tech and we got somewhat delayed when they were searching for a spare plane.

I flew Vueling once, didn't really enjoy the experience at all - the seats and legroom were horrible and most of the passengers quite weird, noisy and not very well behaved. I just about survived that MAD-BCN hop, I think paying extra for the exit rows or bulkheads is the only way to survive their longer routes.

Just about to head to the airport for yet another trip!

Thanks for this informative Trip Report about one of the most unknown areas in Spain for me.

I have myself never been to Benidorm nor climbed Peñón de Ifach, thanks for the pictures; that will do for the years coming

Air Nostrum is a pretty good airline, they tend to fly not heavy loaded routes, eg. BCN-San Sebastián (an awesome approach to an airport over the sea), BCN-Santander, or BCN-VLC among others. I have not flown them for quite a while and they offereda great service including real tableware and glasses for even short flights not lasting more than an hour.

Anyway, I see that you have had an enjoyable time in Spain last summer. Great idea to have a meeting in PMI, any other good ideas welcomed...

Hope to meet you again soon in any airport around the world!

Hi Markus,

great report as ever

Nice to see some local photos, as well - interesting looking trains and station, and climbing the mountain.

Looks like another nice daytrip from the mainland - did your son travel with you?

where the next bus goes tech on the way, we wait some twenty minutes on the road for a technician, not a problem for me, but some other pax got really in a hectic.

That happened to me once before, at the old BKK. There were only 5 passengers on board, the driver flagged down the next bus (it was on the hard shoulder of an elevated motorway!) and we continued 20 minutes late. Not a problem for us, we had plenty of time to enjoy the airport experience

Hello Markus!

Thank you for another great report with very good pictures! Ibiza looks really nice!

The Iberia/Air Nostrum livery is really good. One of the best in Europe I think.

Also LCY is reachable from IBZ

Interesting. I thought BA only flew to major European cities from LCY.

Greetings
