There is an open position from two legs to GVA in August.
That´s the way now to close it, with two more flights down to GVA on another airline and a less covered airliner, at least for me.

Service BA 903 operated by British Airways
Scheduled: 11.20 // 12.00
My first flight of the day will depart from FRA, the last leg coming in to STR, so Deutsche Bahn fills the gap once again.
The cell phone calls me at 05.00 am.
On the way for STR airport at 06.00 am.
Much more traffic than expected and in the terminal some five minutes ahead to the local trains departure, made it.
Down to the main trainstation only to notice that the ICE to FRA
runs behind schedule.
Nothing serious, but it´s the norm these days, so it seems.
A thousand of pax at the track, you know Germany´s DB runs not with fixed reservations, sure it´s possible to buy a seat, but there is no sale limit for all trains.
In my case I´am lucky to catch a open corner between two first class compartments and ride to FRA in future FR standard, on my own feet. But at least it is cheap 21.00 Euro´s.
OLCI is easy to use on BA´s website, seat 39A, the last row window, two seater, recline is possible and finally two for me with a load of 90 %.
Booking is done together with leg two by Fly.de, the fare is 50.00 Euro´s.
My engine at FRA
The oldfashioned but well used LH terminal 1B

Two lines here
My plane is on the screen, a finger position today
This is it just after touchdown
Taxi to T2
Three B763´s in one picture
It is G-BNWZ, the scheduled 767-300, a new registration for me, leg no. 4 only on type
This machine is in service with BA since 25.02.1997.
One of actual 21 in the fleet
Looks good, isn´t it?
Comfortable seaters at the gate
D4 for me
Well, it´s not the best decision for UK travels today.
Not only me heading there, also the pope coming in.
That means all UK flights in a separate area with an extra security check.
Some ten minutes to wait there.
Two very whitehaired US ladies, so it seems, cuting the queue,
well, everyone here knows, the wait in line rule is not guilty for people with an age over 80 years!.
While doing my pictures I saw some police guys running to the security station, the staff running away, all pax like prisoners
in there areas, nobody is allowed to move.
What happens?. There is a small white bag unattended at the security station. Sniffer dogs coming along, one guy from the special force checks the bag with something what looks like a radar gun.
Finally they open it and false alarm.
Remember that whitehaired ladies?.
One of them coming along with a gate staff agent, "My bag, my bag, what are you doing with my bag?. Unbelievable.
With all that chaos, boarding starts a little late
Cabin view
Oldfashioned blue fabric seats in different colours
Cockpit crew is from the UK, the captain with a very nice and detailed welcome during boarding is completed.
We see an ATC delay due to heavy traffic into LHR, some minutes to wait.

And the magazine
LH A380 on taxi
Just departed from the 4000 meters runway 18, note the very dirty wing.
It is 11.20 am, ontime, cloudy but dry and the temperature is 15 degrees.
1 hour 25 minutes bound for LHR
I love that moment when you leave the clouds
I count seven female FA´s here, all together well experienced, so it looks like and nice.
The cabin, the oldfashioned center monitors not in action today
Good legroom here in the last row.
Dark blue fabric seats, worn out, oh yes, somewhat dirty, no individual climatization here
Service is snack and free drinks.
No route information, but a calm flight at 32000 feet.
The captain is on the speakers short to approach detailed, holding as usual and once more after holding prior to landing.
Touchdown at the 3658 meters runway 27L, it is 12.10 am, close to ontime, in the UK, 1.10 pm in Germany.
Cloudy sky here also and 15 degrees.
No, that´s not a third world carrier

Service BA 732 operated by British Airways
Scheduled: 14.00 // 16.40
OLCI shows me 22F as the window last row, secured shortly.
The fare is 50.00 Euro´s.
Well the pope, you know, lot´s of security staff here at LHR.
The last two times, there wasn´t an extra security check with the connecting flight. Not today, thanx god, not that long to wait, some ten minutes later and I´am in the gate area.
Let me check the screen and go for a terminal view
A 15 is the place for GVA today
That looks like my machine.
G-EUPG, in service with BA since 25.05.2000,the A319 like on schedule, leg no. 59 on type.
One of 33 planes in the actual fleet.
That reg sounds somewhat well known, so it is. Leg no. 2 for me
A calm corner in the terminal
Full view to the main area
Boarding now, me as one of the last pax, once more a good decision.
My seat is 22F, 22D and E is taken when I´am there, but lucky me
21 D/E/F is completely open and that means three seats for me also on this service. The load is 90%
Cockpit crew is from the UK, the captain with a very nice and warm welcome during boarding.
It starts to rain, time for leaving the UK with the Blue 1 MD90 at the gate
The BA 757, looks nice
Far from home, NZ 747
The safety card
Cabin view, dark blue leather seats, the legroom is ok, the cabin clean so far
SK on the way from the 3901 meters 27R like us.
It is 2.05 pm, close to ontime, light rain and the temperature is 15 degrees, the duration is 1 hour 15 minutes
And the magic moment again
One male, middle aged and ok, three female, one younger, the elder purser and a pretty nice and good looking young blonde
serving the rear cabin.
River above France
Some serious kind of medical emergency happens in biz, so it looks like, after twenty minutes inflight.
The FA´s pushing the cart in the rear galley, taking the defillbrator very fast and running through the cabin.
Only the male FA returns some ten minutes later with a totally pale face and trembling to the eco cabin.
The young female FA is also back some ten more minutes later.
No further information.
The cabin with the small monitors also used for the safety demo
The captain is once more on the speakers short during cruise.
The route is above Brighton, south of Paris and Auxerre, with
the map on the screen for the whole duration.
Flight level maximum is 33000 feet.
Turning above the hills
And some more river
for the lake
Service is snacks and free drinks.

GVA airport operates a very customer friendly system.
There is a ticket machine in the arrivals area where you collect a free public transport billet to the city center, for sure my way.
Out in the public and to the airports train station.
The ticket is good for every train, not that long to wait for this one pictured later at the city station

Let me say, the number of visitors in the city mostly arabian style or also a lot of russians is impressive.
They carrying big and bigger shopping bags, wearing fur coates while it isn´t that really cold.
I see also arabian families with staff walking behind to carry the bags. So, luxury is definitelly alive here.
Collecting a 3.00 CHF train ticket back to the airport and soon there again at the airport station

Service Swiss LX 2719 operated by Swiss European Airlines
Scheduled: 21.00 // 21.50
Todays legs three and four are also legs three and four from
two earlier flights to GVA in August.
Booking is done via Exp.de and that calms the fare down to
less than 40.00 Euro´s.
Through security in no time and finally in the gate area to
catch a couple of planes.
The earlier service bound for ZRH
See you soon
Terminal view from above, looks much better than in the public area
Strange, take a closer look at the screen,
LX 2819, 9.00 pm and LX 2719, 8.55 pm from the same gate bound for ZRH
A closer view to the big screen with the same two flights again
The gate shows clearly LX 2719, while I´am checked in for LX 2819.
The A320 on the OLCI seatmap, quick and easy to use via LX´s homepage, seat 37A
Well, good connections show me the reason.
Hannah/Infodesk send me an SMS that my original flight
with the routing Moscow-GVA-ZRH is delayed and so the pax from GVA to ZRH will miss they´re ZRH connections.
LX sends an extra flight ferry to GVA to pick us up, well done LX.
That´s the plane for the extra flight.
It is HB-IXR, "Hohe Winde", a warm welcome to the RJ100, leg no. 8 on type and a new registration.
One of 20 examples in the actual fleet.
In service with Crossair from 29.02.1996, to Swiss International at 31.03.2002 and finally to Swiss European at 01.12.2005
I´am rebooked to LX 2719, let me say the nice female gate agent is somewhat surprised that I know the whole story, when I´am at the gate to collect a new boarding pass.
And imagine the other pax who dont know whats going on.
Some of them waited for LX 2819 and going close to miss the subservice.
Cabin view, seat 21A for me, the last row window, no recline here, but two comfortable seats for me
One male FA, ok, his voice sounds like the one of a swiss comedian, really funny.
One very nice talkactive female FA told me later, that the plane was on standby at ZRH the whole day.
The safety card
Cockpit crew is from Switzerland, the captain with a short welcome during taxi.
Departure from runway 23, it is 8.50 pm, close to ontime, it´s completely dark and the temperature is 16 degrees.
35 minutes only for ZRH and the load is 70%.
My seat, dark grey slimline Recaro leather, new style, clean, the legroom is ok
The actual Swiss magazine
The FO and pilot flying is on the speakers really nice inflight in german, french and english.
Service is water and the Swiss chocolate.
The dark cabin
The route is above Berne, nearly no clouds, that might be a pretty nice scenic flight during daylight.
No flight level information.
Touchdown at the 2500 meters runway 28, it is 09.40 pm, ten minutes ahead to schedule, it´s dark outside and the temperature is 13 degrees.
By bus to the terminal.

Service Swiss LX 1178 operated by Contact Air
Scheduled: 22.40 // 23.20
Well, that might be boring after a long day on travel to wait in the nightly terminal for the last flight of the day, or not?.
Absolutely no way here.
It feels good and I see some strange views from other pax,
Hannah/Infodesk is at the bus entrance and welcomes me to ZRH.
She decides to fix her work right ontime to catch me at the door.
Up the stairs, another security check without problems for me
and ready for some very nice aviation related and else talking.
And as long as the flight is finally running, it´s no problem to follow the gate agents announcement, that the plane is on a go around procedure and it finally needs some more minutes till were ready to board.
Hey Hannah, thanx that you take your time this way, for the once again nice talking and also the SMS into GVA.
Bus boarding starts from gate A2, I´am the last pax in the bus, waving goodbye to Hannah and on the way to the plane
The fare is again less then 40.00 Euro´s.
On the dark apron
It is D-AGPK, the scheduled F100, a new registration and leg no. 17 for me on type.
This plane is with US Air from 23.09.1990, from 14.05.2003 in service with Germania, changed to airberlin at 25.03.2004 and finally in service for Contactair since 31.03.2008
Seat 20A for me, the second last row window, the load is 100%, the aisle seat is taken by an older male biz passenger.
Dark grey leather seats, legroom ok, clean so far.
Lots of biz pax here.
The safety demo is manual.
The german captain with a nice welcome during boarding.
Takeoff from the 3700 meters runway 34, it is 11.00 pm, 20 minutes delayed, very short to the night curfew here at ZRH, it looks like we´re the last plane to leave.
The temperature is 14 degrees and it´s completely dark.
25 minutes for STR.
Cabin crew is one young and nice male and a middle aged ok female.
Service is water and Swiss chocolates.
No route or flightlevel information.
The safety card
Touchdown on runway 25 is soft, it is 11.30 pm, only ten minutes late,
the last plane inbound today, it´s dark and the temperature is 13 degrees.
At STR beside sistership D-AFKE
My seat
The captain is at the planes door during disembarking.
Bye-Bye
So, the BA 763 is a pretty oldfashioned looking machine, but fits well in between to that open LX legs.
Nice service on LX, GVA is an interesting place and warm welcomed talking with Hannah/Infodesk at ZRH.
Not that long to go now till

Re the Contactair F100, they don't have many in the fleet, you must have been on most of them by now?

Hi Markus,
interesting routing and nice pictures from Geneva. It's a shame that the 767 interior is in such a poor condition, it looked so much better when I flew on G-BNWZ ten years ago. AFAIK it was equipped with leather seats back then.

Wow...the cabin condition of that 767 leaves much to be desired. Not very impressive. I hope the 767s they send on longer hauls overseas are in better condition. It's still a shame to see that on Britain's flag carrier no matter where the plane flies...looks like the A319 was in much better shape, fortunately.

Your right though as many report the BA 763's are worn out and very bad interiors. They use them on the ATH route, great for OA and A3 who have superior products but bad for BA as they once were neck and neck with OA. Also IST is the same comparing them to TK.
Anyway its more for the aircraft than the interior so Im glad you got to go on it. It will be nice to see BA 787's oneday . I wonder if they will put them on the same routes .

Well, the 767 disappoints me a little bit, I somehow thought, thy would have a refurbished cabin, but well I surely was a good experience.
Also the fact, that LX provided an aircraft to not miss the connections looks very professional. Well done

Hola Markus!
Thanks for this report.
Glad you were able to catch the B763 to LHR, I think I flew it once from BCN during the summer season when the Brits come for the sun and the beach.
I have seen LHR over and over the whole weekend and it looked rather different from the pictures you posted in your trip. I wouldn't like to be stranded at an airport covered in snow for days. I learned that BA102 was diverted to TLS on Saturday and I guess it is still seating there.
The flight to GVA was in better condition, but the story you told about the defibrillator and the FA sounded pretty bad. Did you learn what happened to the fellow passenger?
Any flights over Xmas'?
Anyway, thanks for all the trip reports this year and hope to keep reading them next year; a meeting in BCN in May, is already on schedule.
Fröhliche Weihnachten und glückliches neues Jahr!

Glad you were able to catch the B763 to LHR, I think I flew it once from BCN during the summer season when the Brits come for the sun and the beac
Thank you and good to know about you´re 763 experience.
Quoting Rogerbcn (Reply 16): I have seen LHR over and over the whole weekend and it looked rather different from the pictures you posted in your trip. I wouldn't like to be stranded at an airport covered in snow for days. I learned that BA102 was diverted to TLS on Saturday and I guess it is still seating there.
Absolutely not the place to be these days.
Quoting Rogerbcn (Reply 16): The flight to GVA was in better condition, but the story you told about the defibrillator and the FA sounded pretty bad. Did you learn what happened to the fellow passenger?
No informations at all beside the unusual long time to wait till disembarking at GVA.
Quoting Rogerbcn (Reply 16): Anyway, thanks for all the trip reports this year and hope to keep reading them next year; a meeting in BCN in May, is already on schedule.

Hey Markus,
Another fab read. I do love your mad day trips around Europe and this one even more considering your first flight was at 12:00! Great work indeed.
Quoting FLIEGER67 (Thread starter): Down to the main trainstation only to notice that the ICE to FRA
runs behind schedule.
Nothing serious, but it´s the norm these days, so it seems.
I always thought German railway was good for on time departures? Oh well, its better than the UK. I remember taking the ICE to the airport in Frankfurt as well and I managed to get a seat right behind the driver in the 'Quiet Zone'. It was the best train trip I've had so far!
It definitely looks like one. I was lucky enough to get the other config when I flew from LHR as I found out upon sitting down, I realised that it was World Traveller Plus. Very comfortable indeed albeit for 1 hour 25 minutes!
Looking forward to many more reads. Merry Christmas to you and your family.

hi markus - great report and thanks for posting this. Always nice to get a widebody on a shorthaul Euro flight, even if the cabin is looking a bit tired. I flew LHR - DUS on a BA 763 last year and it was also looking a bit tired, although the flight was nice. Hope you have a Merry Christmas and safe flying in 2011! Cheers P/jet

Deutsche Bahn runs far below they´re self set standards these days, hope it will be better again.

Hi Markus
Great report and pic. Nice you got the grab the 767 on short haul. I like the idea BA use them on european flights. All my 5 767 flights have been with BA.
Quoting FLIEGER67 (Thread starter): It is G-BNWZ, the scheduled 767-300, a new registration for me, leg no. 4 only on type
I've been unfortunate to have this on 3 times now!

Hi Markus,
Another really enjoyable read, nice to see you getting a short hop in the 763 although the interior was worn out.
Quoting FLIEGER67 (Thread starter): Two very whitehaired US ladies, so it seems, cuting the queue, well, everyone here knows, the wait in line rule is not guilty for people with an age over 80 years!.While doing my pictures I saw some police guys running to the security station, the staff running away, all pax like prisonersin there areas, nobody is allowed to move. What happens?. There is a small white bag unattended at the security station. Sniffer dogs coming along, one guy from the special force checks the bag with something what looks like a radar gun. Finally they open it and false alarm.Remember that whitehaired ladies?.One of them coming along with a gate staff agent, "My bag, my bag, what are you doing with my bag?. Unbelievable.
Some story.. I wonder if they got a telling off by the police.
So do I - there's some sort of sense of amazement that gets me every time.
Quoting FLIEGER67 (Reply 1): My seat is 22F, 22D and E is taken when I´am there, but lucky me21 D/E/F is completely open and that means three seats for me also on this service
Your pilgrims? I don't see why they wouldn't want to choose the next row up!
Quoting FLIEGER67 (Reply 1): Hannah/Infodesk send me an SMS that my original flightwith the routing Moscow-GVA-ZRH is delayed and so the pax from GVA to ZRH will miss they´re ZRH connections.LX sends an extra flight ferry to GVA to pick us up, well done LX.
Always good to get inside information! I bet the agent would have been surprised! The BAe 146 remains one of my favourites.. I need to get to Europe to hop on another again!

The agent was really surprised, definitely.
Quoting NZ107 (Reply 22): So how does the Fokker compare with the BAe/Avro?
As far as I like the Avro, I prefer the F100, pretty nice legroom, the two seaters and the noise, my thing to do.
