How I love these country, where the male gate agent at MXP is better dressed with his coat and the leather cloves than many of the CEO´s in Germany, doing a very important phone call all the time during the boarding procedure. Now that´s multitasking at it´s best.
Where the sole bus from Foggia airport to the train station withhin the next four hours runs exactly five minutes after the planes scheduled arrival, no chance for pax with checked baggage to catch that service.
Where the Fiat driver in Bari blocks the whole street with flashing lights for the only obvious reason to talk to a nice female walking down the street, well he know´s whats really important.
Enough talking, six legs to go today!.

Service Lufthansa LH 3926 operated by Contact Air
Scheduled: 07.00 // 08.00
The cell phone alarm is set for 04.30 am, seems time enough for boarding the first flight of the day at 06.40 am.
This is the open return from an MXP-STR leg in August booked by Exp.de, the fare this way only 40.00 Euro´s.
OLCI works properly at LH´s website,
19A looks like a good seat on the scheduled F100.
Once again much more traffic than expected, why are there so many people on the road that early in the morning.
And also the airport looks like a good business day, a long line at T 1 security, not much lower at T2 and finally a T3 also, some ten minutes to wait till it´s my turn.
In the secured area, close to the gate 160, at 06.30 am, ten minutes prior to boarding, should I go a bit earlier the next time?
Boarding is called exactly on time, it seems Contact is running on schedule today.
By bus around the dark apron to the plane
It is D-AFKD, the scheduled F100, a new registration for me, first in service with Formosa from Taiwan at 02.12.1995, further on at 02.03.2000 to Mandarin and with Contact since 27.01.2010 only. The latest addition to the fleet with 8 examples. Leg no. 18 on type
I´am the last pax from the first bus, seat 19B is taken,
but 11 A/B is free for me. The second bus delivers some more pax only, the load is nevertheless 80%, but 11B remains open, two seats for me in the end.
Cabin crew is a middle aged german male, nothing special and an also middle aged ok turkish female.
The safety demo is manual.
Cockpit crew is from germany, the captain with a very nice and detailed welcome after boarding, no problem to talk to his passengers for him this early morning.
Departure at 07.10 am, ten minutes behind schedule from runway 07, 4 degrees here and dry.
50 minutes for Milano-Malpensa.
Turning with the first sunbeams
Clouds above Switzerland, the route is via ZRH at 23000 feet
So, this is another example with the integrated stairs
Service is a small, but good apple cake and free drinks
Legroom is absolutely generous here, seat recline is possible
The well maintained cabin, fitted with clean, bright grey leather seats
The captain is on the speakers once again, short prior to approach real detailed.
Finals with sunny peaks in the distance and some fog down there
Parked on the apron after touchdown on the 3920 meters runway 35L at 08.00 am, ontime, clear sky but only 5 degrees here
This plane is 15 years in service, looks better than a few younger machines in my log

Service 0D 45 operated by Darwin Airlines
Scheduled: 09.30 // 11.05
By bus to the terminal and quickly out in the public.
Why quickly?.
Well, Darwin offers OLCI only from airports in Switzerland.
I am not amused to say the least, when I notice this during my try at Sunday. And it´s only a good hour now till departure.
Booking is done for 30.00 Euro´s only by Exp.de, this is a POS government supported route.
Not that far to walk, only one other pax at the single desk in front.
"Window last row, the A seat please".
"Are you sure, the last row, ok and also the A seat, ok".
It seems standard pax here dont ask that close for a special seat like me.
At the desk beside works another female agent the
Skybridge Airops service to Perugia, now that sounds like a good reason to go another time to MXP!.
A view to the arrivals level
Down the stairs again for security, only some five minutes to wait and in the gate area.
Let me check the screen, Foggia looks like ok from gate A39, but my Star 1 Aero leg from July is a no go, at least today
Not only Star 1 with problems today, also Aegean and LH
Boarding by bus is a little late with the multitasking gate agent, you know.
On the apron for a first view to my machine
Hey, that looks like really nice
Not the standard Darwin colours
But it´s Darwin airline, definitely
Engine view
The nose close up
What a nice story beneath the plane´s cockpit window
Finally boarding HB-IZP, the scheduled Saab 2000,
leg no. 2 only for me on this type and a new registration.
This plane is first in service with Crossair from 22.02.1996,
heading northern to Golden Air from Sweden at 28.09.2001 and further to the States with Ginn Development at 08.02.2007.
The plane carries also the colours of the Ginn racing team till now, sure ok for me.
At 23.04.2007 to ERG Aviation and at 13.07.2009 to Canal Air.
Back in the Swiss register since 17.06.2010 only.
One of six examples in the actual fleet and also the latest addition.
I am the last to board after several pictures, a warm welcome from the sole middle aged female FA
Comfortable seaters, switched to 18F, last row window, two seater, all three seats for me
Cabin view, the load is 70%
The very nice FA approached me and talked to me in italian.
"Sorry, no italian here".
Now, she´s looking confused and I feel like an exotic animal.
She talks immediatelly in german to me, the whole crew is from the german speaking part of switzerland and there are for sure not that much german speaking pax flying in October at an early monday morning from Malpensa to Foggia.
"I should call the pilots and inform them", done.
Later in the flight, when the female FO doing short inflight and arrivals informations in italian only, she immediatelly called the cockpit again and only seconds thereafter everything was repeated in english for me personally.
She talked to me several times inflight, that´s what I call real
personal service, very nice here.
Seat number detail, the cabin clean, good legroom for me
The safety card
And the magazine
Just departed from the 3920 meters runway 35R at 09.30 am, ontime, 6 degrees and clear sky above Lombardia
Nice landscape further to the south, 1 hour, 30 minutes to Puglia
Also large mountains here, service is two times water for free
Turning above the Tavoliere, no route or flightlevel informations
Dry fields all around
Touchdown and backtracking on the 1440 meters runway 16/34, no sign to notice the actual direction, no taxiway, it is 11.00 am, short ahead to schedule, 14 degrees and partly cloudy
Anyone remember my Alidaunia heli report?
The small terminal
Some more turns for our parking position
Apron disembarking and self service to the terminal after a very nice goodbye from the FA
Ok for me, to do more pictures
What a beauty, at least from my point of view
Looks much better than the usual colours
Foggia airport public side, jumping in the waiting bus, 1.00 Euro´s to the main train station for me and another male pax. The only other possible option is to go by taxi.
I should catch the 12.02 am Frecciargento service, sure there are other trains on the route, but running much slower and it´s exactly four hours now, till the next flight
To Bari with these engine?
A short city view
No way, that´s the Frecciargento high speed train arriving,
20.00 Euro´s for a less loaded new train, real comfortable today to follow the landscape
Bari city view
The main train station, some twenty minutes to wait for the
shuttle bus, 4.00 Euro´s to the airport, leaving 1.20 pm
Anyone know, how it feels in a bus on the motorway in the traffic jam caused by an accident in the opposite direction.
For sure not the nice words from the driver to the others
around. Finally at the airport short after 2.00 pm, one hour till the flight.

Service AZ 1616 operated by Alitalia
Scheduled: 15.05 // 16.15
As usual in such cases, AZ OLCI accepted my seat request for this service, but it is not possible to print the boarding pass at home, also not at the kiosk.
Booking is done together with the following flight by Exp. de, the fare 40.00 Euro´s.
The Elite/business desk is also used for the Volare service to Milano-Linate, so it seems the line at the eco desk for my flight is shorter.
Some five minutes to wait till a nice female printed the paper and I´am off to security, but not to forget an inside terminal picture
Pretty interesting security design here, two entrances,
right hand side with a long queue for FR pax, left hand side
for all the others, no time to wait for me there.
The gate
My flight looks ok from gate 5
Back from a short restroom visit to see my plane on stand
Ground handling in action
Pax disembarking through the modern style glass finger
Acceptable seating space with my plane in the background
This is Volare to Milano-Linate operated by Airone
Ramp agent at work
The classic 734
Boarding
It is EI-DTF, "Giovanni Boccaccio", the A321 is on the booking confirmation, but according to the seat numbers during OLCI, it´s an A320 for my flight. Seat 30A for me, the last row window, no recline here.
The middle seat is open, the aisle seat taken by an older male. The load is close to 100%.
Definitely the A320, leg no. 68 on type, a new registration, in service with AZ since 22.05.2009.
One of 49 examples in the fleet
Airside view to BRI
Just departed from the 2440 meters runway 07. It is 3.10 pm, close to ontime, some clouds here and 18 degrees.
45 minutes to Roma
Four female FA´s here, all italian, one biz friendly middle aged and three younger. One of them with a very nice welcome at the planes door, searching for here english skills when I´am responding in english, nice, cute with black hair.
Cockpit crew is from Italy, the pilot with a short welcome during taxi.
Above the coastline
Inseat screens
Cabin view, bright grey leather seats, clean, legroom in the last row is ok. Service is snacks and free drinks
The well used safety card
And the magazin
Flying along the airport, FCO in the distance. The captain is again on the speakers with a short bye-bye.
No route or flight level info
A real seaside airport
Turning for finals
Touchdown on the 3900 meters runway 16L, it is 4.05 pm,
ten minutes ahead to schedule, also here 18 degrees and cloudy sky.
FlyOristano with the F50 on the apron
Registered in the Netherlands with the new Denim Air

Service AZ 1423 operated by Alitalia
Scheduled: 17.00 // 18.15
AZ´s OLCI system is somewhat strange, with the no print out, ok that might happen, but it´s only possible to select a seat on the first leg.
These flight is booked together with BRI-FCO, cheaper this way, the system shows me 10B and there is no noticeable way to change it.
10B, a middle seat in the forward cabin, absolutely no way for me.
The nice agent at BRI changed it to 30F for me, so I know, after my usual question for the window last row, that there might be an A320 at the gate.
But hopefully not the same machine again.
B21, that´s a bus gate, with disembarking the earlier leg at a finger, it should be another plane for this leg
Boarding starts soon thereafter, a pretty well timed connection here, by bus as expected
Surprise, my first time on Airone
A small sign shows operated by Alitalia
Under the wing
EI-DSX is an A320, scheduled during booking is an A319
First in service with Airone from 12.11.2008, for AZ at 01.04.2010, but no time for some fresh painting till now
A new registration, leg no. 69 on type for me
Comfortable leather seaters, 30F, last row window, no recline and six seats for me
ItAli MD on the check site
Cabin crew is all italian, three male FA´s, two younger, one biz friendly middle aged and a somewhat cold middle aged female.
Done a short chat with one of the younger nice male FA´s about the usual queue at the planes front door and me, the one and only relaxed rear stairs boarder.
Well, who knows the real reason?.
Same colours, different airlines
A very quick departure from the 3309 meters runway 25. It is 5.00 pm, ontime, it´s cloudy and the temperature is 18 degrees, no duration information
The safety card
Cabin view, bright grey leather seats, clean, legroom in the last row is ok, comfortable, especially with that low load of only 60%.
It seems, there is the original A319 during check in on the seatmap, I´am the only pax in the last four rows
AZ service, snacks and free drinks, ok for me. No comment from the flightdeck, no route or flightlevel information
Genua in the distance
Lots of mountains around
The last sunbeams for Torino
Nice landscape
An interesting low approach with lots of curves
Close to that church
The Basilica Superga
Finals for Torino
With some last curves
The moment of touchdown on the 3300 meters runway 36. It is 5.55 pm, 20 minutes ahead to schedule, 18 degrees and nice sunny sky here
Mountains ahead this way
Apron view
Coming in close behind us also from FCO
Done a nice chat with the same male FA during disembarking.
His schedule today is FCO-TRN-FCO-TRN-FCO, four legs,
"Six for me", I´ve told him and he looks really interested and asked me immediatelly about my schedule and my intention to do this.

Service LH 4017 operated by Lufthansa
Scheduled: 19.30 // 20.50
These are legs three and four from two earlier flights to Torino in August, booked all together by Exp.de, the fare for this leg is 40.00 Euro´s.
OLCI works pretty well with the LH website, check in is done for 24F, the last row "window", theoretically.
There is a sign for flight connections, so that´s the way to go for me.
Up some stairs around the corner, only to notice that there is a very small room with an security scanner and no one else around.
A sign shows a telephone to call, done and not a minute later two security staff employes opening the door, a quick check and a nice chat with the young female doing the job and I´am in the gate area.
AF with the A318
AZ on pushback
Terminal view
My machine from the inbound flight
LH to FRA seems ontime from gate 14
Well ontime on finals
Touchdown
Taxi
Turning for the gate
Well on the centerline
It is D-ABXT "Reutlingen", should I know these city?,
the scheduled 737-300, in service with LH since 26.01.1989
a new registration and leg no. 44 on type.
33 machines are actually in the LH fleet.
There is no window here in the last row on the LH 733´s, changed to 23F, three seats for me
Departure from runway 36, it is 7.20 pm, ten minutes prior to schedule, 14 degrees and clear sky.
1 hour 5 minutes to FRA.
The well maintained cabin, dark grey leather seats, legroom is ok, the load 80%
Cockpit crew is from Germany, the pilot with a really relaxed and detailed welcome during boarding, seems according to his speech from Hamburg.
Three female FA´s on this service, all middle aged, from Germany and ok friendly.
All announcements in italian also by the purser.
The safety card
Service is snacks and free drinks.
The routing is via LUG-ZRH and STR, no flightlevel information.
The magazine
Touchdown on the 4000 meters runway 25L at 8.35 pm, it´s cloudy, but dry and the temperature is 10 degrees.
Apron disembarking and by bus to the terminal.
15 minutes ahead to schedule on block, according to the information system

Service LH 1360 operated by Lufthansa
Scheduled: 22.20 // 23.00
The fare for this leg is 40.00 Euro´s booked as no. 4 from the earlier flight.
The system shows D-ABIY for STR.
It´s an 737-500 like on the OLCI seatmap, not the A319 like on schedule.
No question, I prefer the 735 in any case.
Seat 21F, the last row window, recline is possible and finally six seats for me
There are 30 737-500´s in the actual Lufthansa fleet and "Lingen" is in service since 18.07.1991. Leg no. 31 on type and one more new registration.
Arrived ontime from AMS
No need to check the gates en detail, simply walk as far as it´s possible till A42 for STR
At the gate
Comfortable bright grey leather seaters,
clean, well maintained, the legroom is ok
Departure from the 4000 meters runway 18 at 10.15 pm, close to ontime, it´s cloudy and the temperature is 10 degrees.
20 minutes only to STR, I´ve done this leg also two months ago with a total flighttime of 60 minutes, not bad today.
Two middle aged ok females and one young nice male in the cabin. The load is only 30%.
Cockpit crew is from Germany, the pilot with a friendly welcome during boarding. No service on this short hop.
The safety card
Touchdown on the 3345 meters runway 25 at 10.45 pm, 15 minutes ahead to schedule, also here ten degrees and cloudy sky.
The final picture at STR
Six legs done, six new registrations, an fullfilled day with the main reason to go the real recommendable Darwin Airlines and sure, the Saab 2000.
The next trip is not that far, we will see if
"Toulouse on a couple of regionals"
works in the end.

Hola Markus!
Glad you had such a great day of flying around Italy, Bravissimo!
Nice to catch the Drawin service with the Saab, I thought they only worked on short flights around Switzerland, eg. ZRH-LUG.
The FA on that particular flight is a clear example of what real FA should be, nice to see there are still some around; she should be teachiong at FA schools.
I can see you still have many more flights to go. Enjoy your 2011 flights.

Hi Markus,
6 legs in one day, quite adventurous so just as well everything went to plan.
Great to read about your experiences on Darwin with such a memorable crew and interesting that like my flight with them, your plane wasn't in the OD livery.
Such a nice idea. I wonder how many people actually take notice of it though?!
I enjoyed your shots from Bari, on my to-do list for the future as you know
Rather unusual to get an AZA320 with the screens in the seatback, I guess they're only used on longer charter flights? And nice that you caught an Air One machine.
Quoting FLIEGER67 (Reply 2): A sign shows a telephone to call, done and not a minute later two security staff employes opening the door,

Happy flying

Hi Markus,
very nice TR, especially when you see some nice pictures from sunny Italy, when youre sitting here in cold Germany.
Perfect day trip, and for sure the Saab was a really nice catch especially in these colours, service on LH looks professional as usual and AZ is also okay.
Is there any free programm to watch on their screens or is everything charged?
Thank you a lot for sharing
Cheers Johannes

Hello Markus!
Thank you for another great report Good pictures and a enjoyable read! The SAAB 2000 is a real beauty and it´s sad that not more airlines fly them. I´ve had some S2000 flight´s in my log and it´s a real fun A/C to fly on. Very powerfull during take-off and climb and what I heard a little tricky to slow down during approach:D This year it´s 11 years since my last flight with it so I have to catch one soon, dont you think so?
When I hear about Bari I think about leisure flights in the 50´s and 60´s. At least that was the number one destination from Sweden in the 50´s and 60´s. When I see your pictures the hotel´s looks realy vintage
it always nice when the crew speaks a third language except their native and English!
Thank you again for another good report! It looks like you have some nice flights on good airlines I specially like the LH reports since a catching a LH regional flight later this month, on the CRJ200! I´m really curios about it

Hi Markus,
Glad to see this report up so soon after the previous one! Still some catching up to do, I guess!
Looks like a nice day of flying around Italy, although another rather long one it seems!
That Darwin Saab is certainly something a bit out of the ordinary, I guess I should look into this operation at some point as well. Let's see when I'll end up back in Italy... Well, I'm actually going to be there in April, but that trip has already been fully booked and planned .
Quoting FLIEGER67 (Thread starter): Where the Fiat driver in Bari blocks the whole street with flashing lights for the only obvious reason to talk to a nice female walking down the street, well he know´s whats really important.
Hey, that's cool. I've done six flights a day a few times. In February I'm should be breaking my own personal record by doing seven in a day!

Thank you and time to do another S2000 soon, so it seems.
Quoting parton87 (Reply 13):
That´s the best with early morning flights!
Sure the case.
Quoting parton87 (Reply 13): I wonder if the F100 air stair door have electrical power when closing like the F50. It looks very heavy!?
Don´t know, there was no sign at the door.
Quoting parton87 (Reply 13): When I hear about Bari I think about leisure flights in the 50´s and 60´s. At least that was the number one destination from Sweden in the 50´s and 60´s. When I see your pictures the hotel´s looks realy vintage
Good point, the hotel looks indeed something vintage.
Quoting parton87 (Reply 13): I really like the Airone livery, will they keep their own identity or will they be painted in the AZ livery?
Not sure, most plane´s repainted in the AZ livery.
Quoting parton87 (Reply 13): it always nice when the crew speaks a third language except their native and English!
Thank you again for another good report! It looks like you have some nice flights on good airlines I specially like the LH reports since a catching a LH regional flight later this month, on the CRJ200! I´m really curios about it
Good to know and it´s always nice with more personal attention.
Glad to see this report up so soon after the previous one! Still some catching up to do, I guess!
Looks like a nice day of flying around Italy, although another rather long one it seems!
Thank you and there is something more to write, you know.
Quoting FlyingFinn76 (Reply 15):
That Darwin Saab is certainly something a bit out of the ordinary, I guess I should look into this operation at some point as well. Let's see when I'll end up back in Italy... Well, I'm actually going to be there in April, but that trip has already been fully booked and planned
Quoting FlyingFinn76 (Reply 15): Hey, that's cool. I've done six flights a day a few times. In February I'm should be breaking my own personal record by doing seven in a day!
Seven is pretty tough, looking forward to follow you´re story.
Quoting FlyingFinn76 (Reply 15):
This was right around their bankruptcy, wasn't it?
Quoting FlyingFinn76 (Reply 15):
Thanks for making me aware of this airline - never knew about it! I checked the website, gave me some ideas of flying another unknown niche carrier to an unknown niche airport at Sardinia...!
Me, too!.
Quoting FlyingFinn76 (Reply 15): Great shot! Although like somebody pointed out above - dangerous and notorious as well!
Keep up the good work!
Thanx again and I´am also waiting for something more from you´re hand.
@Lars:
Quoting The777Man (Reply 16): Great report with great pictures! Amazing that you flew six legs in one day and that you made it home without any major delays!
Thank you and it seems I was lucky here.
Quoting The777Man (Reply 16): The AZ 320s look great with PTVs. Nice also to fly on LH 735 and even better to fly on six different registrations in one day! The Saab 2000 looks great too.
Looking forward to your next report!
The Saab was definitely the top of the day, another story is coming up soon.

Quoting akhmad (Reply 17): Great story to cheer me up while recovering from the flu. 6 legs with 6 new registrations. Amazing, wasn't it?
Thank you and hope you´re going well now.
Quoting akhmad (Reply 17): Well, I like your introduction.

Hi Markus,
Great trip, amazing, 6 legs in one day, not managed that yet, I should give it a try when I get some free time.
Quoting FLIEGER67 (Thread starter): In the secured area, close to the gate 160, at 06.30 am, ten minutes prior to boarding, should I go a bit earlier the next time?
Quoting FLIEGER67 (Thread starter): The very nice FA approached me and talked to me in italian.

Quoting FLIEGER67 (Reply 1): Not only Star 1 with problems today, also Aegean and LH
After millions of financial crimes, lies and things untold, Star 1 went belly up at that time and thoroughly deserved that. My wife used to mock them by saying that if they ever EVER buy or lease one more plane, they will rebrand to star 2.
Congratulations, Markus! You've done great work. I also liked Saab 2000 when Flylal had 3 in their fleet, they just evoke one painful memory.
My family flew VNO-FRA, and my then-almost-3-year-old son wanted a pee. When we were walking along the aisle, another male entered the only toilet even though he saw us. He spent there 17 (yes, seventeen) minutes. My son was crying desperately, and I saw him really suffering. I don't know, I think I do not want to board this great-smooth-fast plane ever in my life; that's a painful memory. It's just amazing how emotions affect us

- That's a real nice touch by the crew.
Feels much better than standard cabin service.

Good point, I´ve done Star1 only a couple of weeks prior to the grounding.

Now that´s really terrible, if you followed my stories I travel also frequently with my son and I know what it means.

Hey Markus another nice report. I have often seen Darwin at ZRH in normal livery and always wondered what they were like. Some really good shots of this A/C.
Would quite like to try AZ sometime its years since I flew the old product and the new one looks pretty ok and nice interior.
Thanks for the nice read as usual.

Hi Markus, nice report about an unusual day trip. What I found interesting was the Darwin Saab 2000, both the airline and the type are still missing in my log. I'm a bit disappointed that only water was offered on Darwin. What kind of snacks did AZ and LH serve?
Interesting to find these screens even on those planes directly delivered to AZ. Probably once ordered by Air One. I'm wondering whether PTVs are also installed on the recently delivered A320s. Did they remain shut off all the time?

Hi Markus,
well done! Nice intro about Italy, I think we share this opinion, but sometimes the behavior of Italians works on my nerves, but nevertheless it was too long since my last visit there.
Congrats with another new F100 and the S2000. Also here only 1 time on type so far, can use more but not that easy.
So with AZ opening many new routes to AMS in 2011, I might have a look to them. They seems pretty ok to me.
Regards
Eric
