Toulouse and "Vol annule" on Regional

http://i22.photobucket.com/albums/b305/FLIEGER67/F1005/F1005112.jpg

Bonjour, dear readers,

seeking for new airports and routes it´s always a point of interest for me.
Toulouse is showing up, passed the airport for a couple of times on the way to and from Spain, but never been there before.
Collecting some domestic flights in France seems also interesting. During scheduling there is no sign of todays strike action around, so booking is done in July.

Here´s the link to my previous story from Italy

Like A Private Biz Flight: The Darwin Saab 2000 (by FLIEGER67 Jan 6 2011 in Trip Reports)

and further on with three flights a la francais!.

Service Air France AF 7303 operated by Brit Air
Scheduled: 06.50 // 07.50

The KL website is as always my preference with OLCI for AF,
easy and quick, seat selection is possible there.
The fare for this flight is 50.00 Euro´s, booking is fixed by Exp.de.
The scheduled Fokker 100 on the seatmap, 20A is open, the two seater close to the engine with a good view behind the wing, so the place for me.
Boarding at 06.20 am shows me once more the hard reality of early morning flights, just for fun as we already know. Departure from SXB, much cheaper this way and a better timetable than flying from Germany.
The system shows me 2.00 hours to drive, the cell phone calls me at 03.00 am, on the road at exactly 4.00 am.
Well, dear readers, I promise now and finally that I will go earlier the next time. This was as tight as it could be.
It seems with the upcoming economy all available trucks are back on Germanys motorways and this together with the construction site called "Rheintalautobahn" between Karlsruhe and Strassbourg let me reach the airport at 06.15 am.
Ten minutes at a, so it feels like, pretty slow security,
the agent calls boarding will start soon, when I´am at the gate, a short step to the restroom, some pictures and boarding from gate 30,
not a minute lost this way.
Amsterdam cancelled, Bordeaux delayed, not the best signs here
http://i22.photobucket.com/albums/b305/FLIEGER67/F1005/F1005004.jpg
This is the clean, but with these metall seaters not that really up to date looking upstairs gate area for the finger boardings
http://i22.photobucket.com/albums/b305/FLIEGER67/F1005/F1005005.jpg
Cockpit crew is from France, the captain with a short welcome during boarding and the information that we´re looking for some lost passengers.
Generous legroom here in eco. Boarding as the last pax, so it seems, seat 20B is taken, 19A/B is open, so no question to take 19A.
An elderly french female joining us short after me taking the seat and finally catch 19B. So I get my original seatmate a
free seat beside him. The load is good, 90% this monday morning

A dark apron and wing view from the scheduled F100
http://i22.photobucket.com/albums/b305/FLIEGER67/F1005/F1005009.jpg
The cabin crew is one, nice middle aged female and one young pretty bored young male.
Dark grey leather seats here, well used, recline is possible and the safety demo is manual

Departure from the 2400 meters runway 23, it is 07.10 am, 20 minutes delayed, maybe something more later in the day?.
The temperature is 5 degrees only and its cloudy here in Strassbourg. 50 minutes to go for Paris-Orly.
The actual magazine, well it seems the weather is not that really welcoming these days for beach action around Hamburg
in October

Registration shot, my second flight on F-GPXE and leg no. 19 on the F100.
This plane is in service with Air Inter from 20.09.1995, with Air France from 12.09.1997 and to Brit Air at 25.03.1999.
One of actually 9 in the fleet, the newest example.
It seems Britair is scaling down it´s F100 fleet more and more.

Service AF 6112 operated by Air France
Scheduled: 09.50 // 11.00

By bus to the terminal, there is no way here directly to the departure lounges, so out in the public is the thing to do.
Walking around for some views into that oldfashioned terminal.
Apron view with my plane in the far distance

Work of art, special style
http://i22.photobucket.com/albums/b305/FLIEGER67/F1005/F1005029.jpg
Self service AF/KL desk with a huge number of laptops where the only available website is, no question, AF/KL
http://i22.photobucket.com/albums/b305/FLIEGER67/F1005/F1005030.jpg
"Embarquement" for Toulouse, no worries, the 9.50 am service is me
http://i22.photobucket.com/albums/b305/FLIEGER67/F1005/F1005031.jpg
Is there really another tail than AF here?
http://i22.photobucket.com/albums/b305/FLIEGER67/F1005/F1005032.jpg
Orly Ouest is separated in four halls and there is an extra security checkpoint for every hall
http://i22.photobucket.com/albums/b305/FLIEGER67/F1005/F1005033.jpg
Some five minutes to wait there, boarding passes scanned at the entrance.
This service is booked by Exp.de, the fare ok with 50.00 Euro´s.
OLCI is also done with KL´s website, 31 F is the last available window in the rear cabin.
It´s an A321 on schedule and also on the seatmap.
Close to 200 legs ago, since my last flight on this type, so not bad.
As soon as I am in the small and crowded gate area for the Navette shuttle flights to Nice/Marseille and Toulouse, this machine in the latest colours coming in
http://i22.photobucket.com/albums/b305/FLIEGER67/F1005/F1005034.jpg
Perfectly on the centerline
http://i22.photobucket.com/albums/b305/FLIEGER67/F1005/F1005035.jpg
And parked at the gate with no flight on the screen
http://i22.photobucket.com/albums/b305/FLIEGER67/F1005/F1005036.jpg
It´s finally my machine from gate 20E

http://i22.photobucket.com/albums/b305/FLIEGER67/F1005/F1005038.jpg
Not my gate, but looks well coloured here
http://i22.photobucket.com/albums/b305/FLIEGER67/F1005/F1005039.jpg
F-GTAX will be my ride now, the scheduled A321, a new registration and leg no. 17 on type.
In service with AF since 08.06.2009, one of 24 in the fleet,
the second newest example.
Boarding is called and according to the pax around, a very good load here.
CCM to Corsica
http://i22.photobucket.com/albums/b305/FLIEGER67/F1005/F1005041.jpg
You know, I´am one, if not the last pax, it seems a large group of school kids all around my seat, but hey whats that?.
There are 36 rows on the seatmap and there are 37 rows here on the plane. It looks like some differences between the older and newer cabins.
There is a nice young male FA in the rear galley.
"It´s possible to join the last row, it seems the kids taken my seat and it might be also quieter for me to stay here?".
"Sure, wait a minute if there are some other pax coming up, but no problem if the seats are open".
"Well, I was simply the last one at the gate".
"Pretty good to know, so take you´re seat now".
That means with a load of more than 90 %, according to the FA, close to a full flight, there is the complete row 37 for me today
http://i22.photobucket.com/albums/b305/FLIEGER67/F1005/F1005042.jpg
Note the very thin and hard fabric seats, high density so it feels, no recline.
Cockpit crew is from France, the captain with a short welcome during boarding.
The spanish corner
http://i22.photobucket.com/albums/b305/FLIEGER67/F1005/F1005044.jpg
A rolling takeoff from the 3650 meters runway 24 at 10.00 am,
ten minutes behind schedule.
The sky is clear and the temperature is 8 degrees.
1 hour bound for TLS.
Cabin view, the safety demo is manual, clean so far, the legroom is ok

http://i22.photobucket.com/albums/b305/FLIEGER67/F1005/F1005056.jpg
Touchdown on the 3500 meters runway 32L, it is 11.00 am, ontime, partly cloudy and the temperature is 6 degrees only with fresh gusting wind, so not the real comfortable weather here

Very slow airport workers around here, feels like some sort of strike action.
We had to wait more than ten minutes in the plane till we´re allowed to disembark.
Out in the public, catching a city map at the infodesk
and by the navette aeroport bus to the city center, 5.00 Euro´s, not that really cheap here, but fast and ontime.
Street life close to the city center

Enough now with that very cold wind rushing around every corner, back to the airport for another 5.00 Euro´s, pretty well ontime for the next flight, but is the flight also well ontime?.

Service Air France AF 5545 oeprated by Regional CAE
Scheduled: 18.45 // 20.10

OLCI works also fine with KL for AF5543, secured 19A, the last row window on the scheduled E145. Booking is fixed with Exp.de, the fare 70.00 Euro´s.

Vol retarde, flight delayed

It seems, I´am the only non french speaking passenger here, the
middle aged female gate agent told me everything personally, so I know a bit more than usual what happens.
The plane is late departed from TLS to Milano and will coming in also one hour late. Some twenty minutes further, she told me, that the plane is still in Milano with a technical problem, the flight is not cancelled but it might be, she send me to the AF service desk.
I lead the queue with the french speakers following close by,
to my surprise the male agent told me, that AF to Lille is cancelled, but not my service to SXB. Well, back to the gate, where the female agent appologizes that the flight is not cancelled till now and we had to wait for some more minutes till the next info.
Well, the next info is on the screen soon thereafter and now it is cancelled, she´s going with me to the service desk
http://i22.photobucket.com/albums/b305/FLIEGER67/F1005/F1005096.jpg
There is no CDG connection on offer, ORY is possible on both flights on the screen, but ORY-SXB will arrive later than 9.00 pm there. What about the late afternoon nonstop service, sorry no seats available, I insisted my AF Gold Elite Status, she works the computer and finally, surprise, there shows an open seat up.
Rebooked, a new boarding pass issued, seat 1F, not the usual place for me, but in this case.
She handed me some vouchers out and so there is much more time than expected for me to spot the Airbus airshow.
I notice later on only one other business like looking female around the passengers for my flight from the passengers at the original gate, so most of them accepted the ORY connection.

It is 6.45 pm, ontime, the temperature is 8 degrees and it´s partly cloudy, 1 hour 20 minutes for SXB

Service is snacks and free drinks.
The captain is on the speakers with more informations inflight, the route is via Lyon and Dijon at 33000 feet.
Touchdown at runway 05, it is 8.10 pm, ontime, also here 8 degrees but clear sky.
SXB at the gate
http://i22.photobucket.com/albums/b305/FLIEGER67/F1005/F1005123.jpg

Exactly the same madness on the road and home some 2 hours and 30 minutes later.

Well, what to expect from a trip to France during these hard strike times.
It works in the end, the E70 is an interesting machine. AF staff at TLS was nice and the airport, from an aviation point of view
worth the way to go there.

The next one is coming up soon:

"Sardinia domestic on a couple of MD´s".

Here´s a first warm up picture:
http://i22.photobucket.com/albums/b305/FLIEGER67/I1006/I1006091.jpg

stay tuned.

Anyone here on Facebook, yes I know,

Comments welcome,

Hi Markus,
thanks for yet another interesting report. Glad you got an adequate alternative flight back to SXB after the cancellation, and also on nice equipment with the E70. I have done the ORY-TLS leg as well, back in the old days with Air Inter when you actually could fly on a widebody, the A300, on domestic routes.

You simply did justice to your Gold status with this exciting trip. Well done! I like your scenery pictures of Toulouse, especially how you have captured some building details.

There are 36 rows on the seatmap and there are 37 rows here on the plane. It looks like some differences between the older and newer cabins.

And yet AF maintains the same comfort level with the new interior. Too bad, the interior is only available on domestic flights.

Two nice guys from Japan on a European spotting trip with big cameras joined me at the spotters corner, we had good fun talking about all these non scheduled planes here.

I wonder whether they are a.net colleagues as well. Anyway, it is always nice to meet other people who share the same interests.

Thanks for sharing. Really a good read for Saturday afternoon.

Another interesting one from you.

Good to see that AF took good care of you despite the cancelled flight. It is always nice to see that they can sort something out when others just let you down on your own.

TLS seems a nice city, I have only seen it from above despite being only 400 km. away from home. I know VY operates now a flight from BCN so maybe I pay them a visit one of these days.

Thanks once again and looking forward to reading your next trip to Sardinia.

Must have been quite exhausting. Unfortunately, you never know how the situation is on the Autobahn. I had to bypass two accidents on the way to MUC back in June, it took me three hours instead of two, very annoying.

Quoting FLIEGER67 (Thread starter):
Note the very thin and hard fabric seats, high density so it feels, no recline.

Wow, probably the thinnest seats I have ever seen.
