Does anyone recall the name of an airline I flew on this route? The female flight attendants wore tuxedo like uniforms, and the aircraft was a former Lufthansa 727-100; the galley equipment and Seat Belt signs were still in German.

No, I'm pretty sure it was a US airline, and it definitely was an ex LH 727-100, in 1987.

Could have been AA back then. Back then i remember seeing PanAm seatbelt buckles on the Continental 727 I was on. Seatbets are exchangable, not mounted permanently, each side of the belt has a latch that connects to the seating area

Thanks so much. I agree that it must have been Challenge. I have found a photo of their 727-100 (and registration details of this aircraft in its long career), but I can't locate any pictures of the unusual stewardess outfits (tuxedo like). Does anyone have photos, reports, or memories of this short-lived airline? I was bumped from an Eastern flight in MIA, and had to run to catch this flight.

Your question made me curious enough to search. No photo, but an article describing why and how the tuxedo-like uniforms came about:
