I arrived back yesterday after one of the most unforgetabble and unforgivable trips of my life...i originally did not have many plans for my spring break but my friends really wanted me to come to Las Vegas with them....we sat down on last sunday night and started bidding on priceline for the next day....we got our tickets and hotel through priceline.....little did we know what was to follow..
We arrived at Bostons logan airport on time for our 445pm departure to Philadelphia on USairways. We were checked in in no time and as we proceeded towards our gate with the boarding cards in our hands.Boarding commenced behind schedule on our first leg of the flight. The plane was a neat A319 EOW...wonder what that EOW stood for. At Logan other then the usual US carriers i just saw the VS B742. Our flight to PHL was a short one......once on the ground at PHL we had about an hour or so to kill till our next flight to Las Vegas. At PHL it was great to see many US widebodies in their great black paint scheme. Other then that i saw atleast two British Airways planes...one of them was a B777 and the other seemed to be a B767 from a distance...im not sure.
We boarded US 621 nonstop service to LAS onboard a B757-200. The flight was almost full and push back was definately behind schedule...we taxied a little bit after which we were stuck at the same spot for atleast 15-20 mins. The airport was very busy at that time and i guess we were struggling to find slot. We made a powerful take off and we sat back for our 5 hour flight to LAS. For those of you who might be wondering howcome i have not said anything about the service yet.....well simply because there is NO such thing as service onboard on most domestic flights in USA even if they are long. They served drinks once and along with that a small box which read "assorted snacks" which were not only horrible but unedible. The flight attendants were rude and it seemed they were doing everyone a huge favor by giving them a glass of water. But the cheapest thing i have ever experienced on a plane has got to be the fact that they charge money for headsets!!! that was unbelievable.....
We were happy to land in Vegas over the amazing lights at night....once out of the plane we ate food at the airport since we were starved in the plane. But our excitment and smiles were short lived....even before we landed in Vegas we all agreed that we wont start gambling until the last two days of our stay....we said this because once you start gambling you really cant stop specially if you loose in the begining and then all you do in the entire trip is gamble!!!...obviously none of us followed that.....it didnt take me long at all to check in at the hotel and by the time i had the room keys in my hand one of my friend was already down in 3 figures... The gambling spree didnt end until our flight back 4 days later and everyone was down......we never wanted to come back to Vegas! but you will not believe what happened later that night.
After going through the security check and everything at LAS with the boarding card in our hands....we sat down at a restaurant to eat with time not on our side. Obviously our minds were not working at that time and when i finally decided to look at my watch after finishing the food, we ran to the gate. "You know what.....you guys just missed your flight,"said the lady at the gate to me with a smile on her face.....for a few seconds i could not believe what had just happened.....she said she had given our seats to someone else on this flight to Charlotte. She would try to put us on the next USairways flight leaving in half an hour to Philadelphia but chances of that happening were slim since it was oversold....when boarding commenced for the flight to PHL it was annouced essentially that all stand by pax can f**k off since there is no room..... now they bumped us on a flight to Pittsburgh and this would be our last chance as after midnight our priceline tickets would be void. Still trying to come to terms with reality i could not belive that i managed to miss my flight. Even before the boarding of the Pittsburgh flight we knew we had no chance on this flight either since i had a long talk with a USair guy......it was time to make alternate arrangements....sadly we had very little choice but to buy another ticket . We called a friend in Boston and told him to buy tickets for us on Priceline since we had no access to a computer. The tickets we got this time were even more expensive then the ticket we just wasted. We got Continental flights leaving the next day at 1120pm so now we had to spend yet another night and day in Vegas. Once back at the strip how could one resist the temptation of gambling ..... to put it in short by the time we boarded CO 580 nonstop service to Cleveland onboard a B737-800,the next night, my account balance was almost slashed in half. The B737-800 was seemed very big for a B737(ive been on the 200,300,400 series). The plane had alot of screens throughout the cabin....no food till CLE on the 3 hour plus flight but i must say the flight attendants on the CO flight were super polite and curteous....our stop in CLE was an agonizing 3 hours but i must say that CLE is the nicest airport i have seen in America....specially concourse D. Our short flight to Boston was onboard Continental Expess on a Embraer 145. They were not more then 20 people on this small jet...only one flight attendant. The leather seats on this plane were comfortable...we landed before time on a very cloudy Boston morning over the south past I-93, Castle Island and Umass Boston.
Happy to be back in Boston....need to ask my dad for more money though I will be doing another trip report as i have to go to Karachi in 10 days for a week....hope you found this one interesting....i certainly fo....never mind ...

Thank you Marco....well yeah Vegas is amazing but when the ball keeps falling at the wrong spot in the Roulette wheel and the stack of chips infront of you shrinks and shrinks, nothing remains amazing anymore belive me.....Do you gamble? I stayed at the "Rio all suite hotel and casino"....tall flashy building probably you saw it...Mandalay Bay is good too. When did you go?

I'm glad you liked Las Vegas. I was there last year and it was great!!! I saw McCarran Airport and a whole bunch of DC-10's stored there. I wanted to try priceline but I heard that you used it. Would you ever use it again or would you try a alternate like Orbitz or Expedia?

CcrIR yes i did use priceline....they definately gave me the best deal for the ticket specially as we bought tickets at the last moment priceline was by far the best choice. The only problem with priceline,as we discovered unfortunately, is that there is very less flexibility incase you end up missing a flight as we did. But other then that priceline gave a better deal then both Orbitz and Expedia.

I can understand your missing the flight. After having missed our scheduled connection from Minneapolis to BOS at ORD by about 5 minutes, we went to the Service Center at AA at ORD. Even though it was partially the agent's fault at the AA Service Center at ORD for booking us (my mother and I) on a 1300 flight from ORD to BOS but telling us it departed at 1412. So, thinking I have loads of time to kill we went to a restaurant at the end of the H concourse. Just as we're about to leave the restaurant I check the tickets to see what gate we depart from. It was only then that I looked at the departure time and then at my watch and realized we had missed the plane AGAIN! In the end, we made a 1335 flight by minutes so it didn't cost us too much time, but it was a pain.
Thanks for the trip report.

Sccutler no i dont mind telling you at all. The first ticket we bought, literally the night before the flight we got it for about $225 on USair. However as you know we only used half that ticket as we missed our return flight and consequently had to buy another ticket. The second one i got was for $335. Both tickets were round trip!

Priceline is the most horrible service for passengers to use. I can not tell you how many passengers miss their flights and then expect the airline to rebook them. the airline can rebook the passenger if they choose but the airline is not obligated to do anything for you on a priceline ticket if its your fault.

I have to say that I love Priceline! They have saved me hundreds of dollars and I have never had a problem with them (knock on wood). I just booked another flight from KSNA to EDDF, so I'm hoping that I won't run into any problems.
It has always been my priority to get to my connecting flight first (to familiarize myself to my planes status and location) before I wonder off and grab a bite to eat. I cannot risk to get stuck in some random airport!
It sucks that U.S. Air was not able to reconnect you, and also for the individuals that miss their flights, but depending on the situation, I don't hold this against the airliners. Of course my opinion might change when it finally happens to me!

That sounds like USAirways to me, i've had similar problems with them. Once, me and my brothes were flying as U.M's (Unacompanied Minors) from LGA to GSO (Greensboro, NC). Our flight had about 15 people on it while the flight to orlando was full, the plane for the MCO flight broke down so they cancled our flight and literaly took our aircraft to the Orlando gate. When we tried to reconect, the next flight wasn't for 4 hours and my dad was legaly obligated to wait with us until we left, and he couldn't. The lady was being tottaly unhelpful and my dad litteraly said "Get my Goddamn kids on a goddamn plane right now" She got really scared and routed us on the Shuttle through DCA.
Oh well live and learn, great trip report.

Las Vegas is great, I was there recently. lost all my money too
As the Aviation enthusiast in your travelling group, you should have been the one to make sure you guys didnt' miss your flight. When travelling with friends I pretty much assume they are all braindead on the flying part and take charge of them like little kids.
I've never used Priceline for Airline Tix, because I don't like to connect, and they seem to be famous for ludicrous connections like JFK-LHR via Frankfurt!
I have had really good success with hotels though, I paid for $89 Canadian per night for the Omni in Montreal. It's a little past it's peak, but still a great hotel for the price in the middle of summer.
As for the last post, I'm sure your dad is a nice guy, but why did he just want to ditch you at the airport, what was so important he couldn't wait with his kids. What if your flight had been delayed due to weather?
