Reason For Trip
Another boring weekend so the 4 of us decided to getaway to Kuala Lumpur for the weekend. Normally KL is my transit point on my long haul journeys, but this instance I decided to write a TR due to the fact my destination is Kuala Lumpur!
3 Dec 2010
Jakarta (CGK) – Kuala Lumpur (KUL)
Malaysia Airlines MH722
Aircraft: A330-300
Registration: 9M-MKG
1st Flight: 22 June 1995
Seat: 7K (Golden Club/Business Class)
ETD: 1830
ETA: 2130
Flight Time: 1hr40mins
Pre Flight
Left work early to go home and get my bags and also the wife. Managed to get through traffic and met up with our friends about 1.5hrs before departure. After a quick check in, we spent our time between Starbucks, the lounge and also at the book store. We were one of the last few to board the aircraft.
9M-MKG
Inflight
As usual it’s a full flight in all classes and most of our time was just spent chatting with our friends and also catching up on the days news from the papers provided on board.

3 Dec 2010
Kuala Lumpur (KUL) – Jakarta (CGK)
Malaysia Airlines MH723
Aircraft: A330-300
Registration: 9M-MKI
1st Flight: 5 Oct 1995
Seat: 8A (Golden Club/Business Class)
ETD: 1630
ETA: 1730
Flight Time: 1hr43mins
Preflight
After a nice lunch at the Pavilion KL, we went back to the hotel and checked out. I really love the Westin KL and its now one of my most frequented hotels. Arrived at KLIA with an hour to spare and after check in we just relaxed in the lounge till boarding was called.
Going home
Inflight
Boarding was a nightmare as it seems to take ages to go through security check. I really had first time flyers who pack their bags with liquids!!!
It took almost 20mins to clear the bag log and once we were on board we all just decided to take a nap after the meal and relax all the way back to Jakarta.
Come on MH, you need to get more of these new birds online!
Cabin Views
Bye Bye KL
Another shot of MH’s new B738
Taxi and Take Off
More cabin views and inflight meal
What can I say, despite the aging inflight product, Malaysia airlines has one of the best cabin crews in terms of service, but how long can this last? For myself I prefer to fly Garuda now on my KUL sectors as they are using their new B738 on the route.
Thanks for reading
Below are my trip reports from latest to oldest. Please note that I travel much more than what I post, but usually I will opt out my usual runs to Surabaya, Perth and Kuala Lumpur

Hi boss!
This is actually kinda a timely TR, something like a farewell to this type of aircraft. MH only have 9 of such A333s in its current fleet and by the end of this year, 9 months away, 5 of them will be gone, being replaced by the new and much anticipated A333 beginning this May. That's like a wipeout of 56% chances of you getting on this type of aircraft ever again (though I am not sure whether you'll miss them or not LOL).

There will be 4 more new and owned B738s that will be joining MH's fleet in 2011, bringing the total number to only 7 (of 35). The bulk of the aircraft is actually will be delivered in 2013 (12 aircrafts) and 2014 (9 aircrafts). Have you flown in any of these? Only one of the existing 3 B738s is based in KUL (9M-MXC). The other 2 are based in BKI.

The new MH livery looks AWFUL! They definately needed to update it, but is that seriously the BEST they could come up with? The lower case letters in the name looks so dated.

GA seems to top MH on this issue, almost all their 737 sleet are B738 and of thoses 738, 80% are now brand new birds....i hardly get the chance to fly GA's classics anymore. Out of all the GA domestic flights i take in 2010 (around 25) only 3 were on the classics. Even GA uses these new 738 on the KUL route, so for now, i am taking GA to KUL hahahaha .....for MH B738 i only have the chance to fly on leased ones, mainly MLC and D. Where is the single B738 based in KUL flying too?

I agree on the livery ... kinda awful.
Hey Alex, thanks for reading, did not know that you are a MH fan ahahhha....but like as it has been said many times before, the great in flight crew is whats keeping MH good, they really need new birds and new inflight products, and fast!

= I am a HUGE MH fan - and most of it has to do with the crew - it is certainly not the antiquated interiors or KLIA (and the lounges) where I am convinced that not everything works - but that is my general observation with Malaysia - have like 10 phone booths, and 3 would work. Maybe I am wrong?
I have flown them over 100+ times and had one diva FA on a KUL-(DXB)-EWR flight who barked when a pax asked for a pork option saying he was Muslim and went crying to the galley. It was all quite amusing. Otherwise, consistently great service ... and the satay at all hours is always appreciated in J.
