Background of the Trip
I had to travel to London for a 3 day conference and it was held at the newly refurbished Savoy Hotel, so no complains here. And since my wife also decided to tag along, we also decided to spend a few extra days in Paris. This was perfect for me as this finally gave me the chance to fly out of London City Airport. Also the return leg home from Paris will on Thai Airways B777-300ER with Suites in First.

Preflight
I was just here exactly 6 days ago. Deja vu indeed. But due to business reasons, i had to go back to Jakarta first between my Geneva and London trips. This time, the missus accompanied me too. After landing we were picked up by the first class attendants and whisked to the lounge where both me and my wife opted to spend our time in the spa. After that it was just spending time in the Royal First Lounge before we were escorted to our waiting B744.
Shower rooms in the Royal First Lounge

Lounge views and lounge food

As we were taken to the gate, I was happy to find out that our B744 today will be HS-TGP. She is the only bird to be painted in TG’s 50th Anniversary retro scheme.

Inflight
9 ouy of 10 seats taken up in F. This is also my first time on TGP since she had been painted in retro colours for TG's 50th anniversary.
Familiar surroundings

As usual a very enthusiastic crew greeted us when we boarded the aircraft. To my horror i realised when we took our seats that i forgot to preorder my meal! Oh well, gotta make do on whats available from the menu.

Bye Bye Suvarnabhumi

Push back was delayed till 0045 due to heavy air traffic on our route. Routing today is westwards over Myanmar, India, crossing the Caspian sea, then Western Europe then over the North sea direct to Heathrow.
IFE

Late night snack, or more like a feast actually

Cabin shots after the meal service

Soon enough its time to get up, and breakfast is served

Preparing for arrival

After the very late meal, i managed to sleep for a good 8.5hrs. Another great flight with TG and I can't wait for my return keg on the B777-300ER Suites.

And on our last night, we decided to try out the brand new W London, Leicester Square

After 4 days of work, now its time to leave London and get 2 days of r and r in Paris. This also gave me the perfect chance to fly out of London City Airport as I always wanted to try it out plus it also gives me a chance to fly on the F50. Check in was quick and with plenty of time to spare i just sat outside by the river and do some spotting.
LCY, simple, effective, I LOVE IT

The very small but spacious check in and departures area

Our nearly 23 year old bird taking us to Paris Orly today

Inflight
A full flight on this F50 to ORY. Nothing special accept it was a pretty good service and the F50 is still a very nice bird to fly, and its getting rarer by the day.
Cabin Views

Take off run

More cabin views and inflight meal

Descend and approach into ORY

Saw this AF B773ER as I was walking towards the terminal. I wonder where AF operates this bird to out from ORY

Preflight
After 2 days in Paris where weather was really good, it was time to head home.
Nice action seen from curbside at CDG

Really boring and outdated design, although the plus point is that you don’t really have to walk much at CDG, unless you like walking around in circles! Hahahaah

We arrived at the airport with nearly 3 hrs to spare as we had to do our tax refund. Oddly, there was no queue for everything! Not for tax refund, customs stamp, check in, immigration nor security check. First time ever un CDG. We relaxed in the Star Alliance First Lounge where most importantly for me there was a very nice outdoor smoking area.

Boarding was also on time. There is TKJ waiting for us

Inflight
Nice to be back onboard this 300ER which is leased from Jet Airways. the F seats really make u realize how outdated those on the B744 and A346 are.

Goodbye Paris

Playing around with the IFE

Obligatory visit to the loo

The tiny wardrobe managed to store all my stuff, inc shoes, and clothing.

Meal for the day

The wife not wanting to be disturbed by me :p

Last few pics before the meal

Playing around my suite before I actually got to sleep

In my opinion all cabins on all aircraft for long haul routes, really need nice sky lighting!

Pretty light load today with Only 4 out of 8 seats taken up in F. Great cheerful crew onboard and they must be as i saw a whole bunch of them doing their tax refund! They, like my wife were definitely helping the French economy. The flight itself was uneventful and i manage to get a good 7.5hrs of sleep. Another great flight with TG.
Last few pics of the trip, breakfast !

Came in as soon as I saw the headline! A big and loyal fan of your trip reports!

First class on THAI 77W/744, Hotel Savoy, W Hotel London, London city Airport, Paris.
Just everything I love combined, it's something I couldn't afford in a single trip!
I am sure you and your wife had a wonderful time in both cities.

Do you like the Rimowa case? That's something pretty cool.
They could have done it a little better with Thai spa brand items such as HARNN, THANN, ERB or Pranburi for the amenity inside. It's been a topic over here for a very long time.

Food looks plenty on both flights, did you ask them if you and your wife could dine together in 1 suite?

Many thanks for the super excellent trip report from Royal First! Fly THAI, smooth as silk!!

Let's just blame it on yields.

You know when I wrote my Jet Airways report, I was wondering what an awesome combination would be to receive Thai service on Jet metal ... it would have definitely made TG out-rank 9W. So great to see the exemplary service. Now TG needs to actually get their own.

Thanks a lot for continuing to be THE reporter for Thai and her excellent First product.

Saludos,
A.

Another wonderfully enviable trip report as usual! I only have 1 question.

What's the 'behind the scene' of this photo that the wife has to hide herself like that LOL?

Great TR!

So is there an airline that 9W has NOT whored their 777's out to?

Seriously those suites have been used by Thai, TK, and I think Gulf?

AF services those B777s to the COI market: Caraïbes et Ocean Indien, the french islands of La Guadeloupe and la Martinique part of the Caribbean and La Reunion Island in Indian Ocean.
FYI as a fan of luxury and upper class you may not be interrested on flying those birds are not fitted with the First Class ( "la Première") because of its high density configuration.

BTW, your glimpse to luxury makes this report excellent.

god knows after TG is done with them in about 20 months time, who will 9W whore the birds out too. My biggest question is, why order all these 77W when they do not have the load or destinations to fly them to? or is it because of government regulations that they can't get certain flight routes that they wanted to expand to?

Thats a first a new interesting fact for me. Didn't expect AF to use new birds to their COI markets, whould thought the A340's will do the job for them.

Room for the Savoy was paid for by my company, but i think yes, its around 500 pounds. The W is brand new of course and great location, but overall service and room comfort, i would still go for the Savoy

Although the room was awesome, its also a "Spa Suite". I reserved normal room, but because of SPG Platinum status, i was upgraded to the suite. But i heard form other people who have tried the W, the regular rooms are also very good.

Good to know that they upgrade their Plats to suites as well (unlike Marriott). Well I am staying at the Joule, Dallas in a couple of weeks time and hoping to get upgraded to one of their suites. They look nice (I am SPG Plat too through status matching).

Quoting AKLDELNonstop (Reply 18):
Good to know that they upgrade their Plats to suites as well (unlike Marriott)

I think one thing i like about Starwood is that, around the world they are pretty consistent on upgrades, even when suites are not available, they always seem to at least upgrade me to a higher category of room. Sorry to say this is not the some with the other hotel programs
