I had to return to Perth for the weekend to take care of some personal matters, thus as it was another bread a butter trip, i did not take a camera along with me as i was not thinking of writing up a TR. However, at the deaprture gate in CGK i was surprised to see MH's new B738, so with iphone in hand, here goes my TR
Date: 05 May 2011
Route: Jakarta (CGK) - Kuala Lumpur (KUL)
Flight: Malaysia Airlines MH710
Seat: 4F (Golden Club / Business Class)
Flight time: 1hr 37mins
1st Flight: 25 Feb 2011
A rainy day in Jakarta with almost zero visibility on the roads. However I still managed to arrive @ CGK with slightly over an hour to spare. I initially decided not to write this TR to PER, however when I got to the departure gate I realised that its MH's brand new bird, 9M-MXD thats taking me to KUL.
Pretty excited as usually the B738 that makes the CGK-KUL runs are usually the older leased B738 or even older B734. This really lights up my otherwise gloomy and rainy day.
Great feeling to step into a brand spanking new bird. In my opinion, I always thought that Garuda has the nicest inflight product on their new B738. But MH's new bird is also no walkover.
Overall cabin has a great airy feel to it, guess the Boeing Sky Interior really helps on the ambience.
Seat wise is also a world apart from the old B734 seats, however, Garuda's J seats are more comfy as they are wider with slightly better seat pitch than MH. Load factor is 100% in Y and 10/16 seats taken up in J.
Taxi and take off scenes
More cabin pics
The flight itself was uneventful and although there was a slight delay in departure the much faster than usual flight time more than made up for it. My summary is; this new B738 is what MH really needed for their narrowbody fleet, although late, its entry into MH fleet is greatly appreciated. Now MH us up there with Garuda in terms of product offering on their new B738.
Date: 05 May 2011
Route: Kuala Lumpur (KUL) - Perth (PER)
Flight: Malaysia Airlines MH127
Seat: 7K (Golden Club/Business Class)
Flight time: 5hr 15mins
1st Flight: 05 May 1995
A short transit in KL and I just met up with a few friends for a late lunch before heading back to the airport. Check in and immigration was swift and i also managed to relax and have a shower in the Golden Lounge.
A very light load to Perth with only 8 passengers in J. A very cheerful crew as usual taking us to Perth tonight. We were delayed by a further 1 hour in the aircraft due to a technical fault with the smoke detectors on board. Took the time to chat with the cabin crew and found out that although the cabin crew returned with the next flight as passengers, the cockpit crew however got to layover in Perth.
As the main goal of writing this trip report was purely for the New B738, for the rest of the TR I will just let the pics do the talking.

Thank you for this write up, the first one for MH's new J on the new B738 I believed. Currently there are only 4 of such aircrafts within MH's fleet so it is still rare to bump into one on the KUL-CGK vv sector. I am surprised they still handed out the el cheapo foam headset to J passengers. This is because a new set of noise cancelling headsets (heard it's from Philips) is being used on the new A333 aircrafts for J passengers. The menus seem interesting with very funky yet kampung names - Ayam Masak di Belanga, Ikan Peletuk - wow, never heard of those before.
I believe MH's flight 126/127 to PER on the old A333 is less favoured compared to flight MH 124/125 which is operated by the B772. In one of the photo, the man across the aisle seems miserable sitting on the bright red recliner seat. Just for your info, the new A333 will take over flight MH 126/127 from 21 July 2011 onwards for flight on Thursday only.

Yup, i know about that, but i rather take the 125/124 flights if possible, more respectable time ahahahah. Dont forget to tell your malaysia flyer friends about this TR ehehhehe
Quoting stipica (Reply 2): Thanks for the effort ... finally a new page in MH life ... certainly obvious contrast in comparison with old interior ...
You are welcome! I too can't wait for my flight next week on the new A333

nice and interesting trip report, i was also apparently travelling on the 25 feb, iam on the TG 434 to BKK for a office trip, flight was on 12.35 so i just miss your flight
The MH B738 flight interior looks nice and seat colours are better than the colourfull B734 serving the route, the buisness class seat seems to less wider , still a lot of improvement in the IFE , even though by my opinion GA buisness class in the B738 looks nicer.
anyway nice TR on the new MH B738 , the A333 to perth seems to be fine but i would have chose GA B738 via DPS form the MH old A333 due to lack of IFE. looking forward on your next TR with MH new A333, looking forward for it. I am planning to fly on the new A333 in August to BNE.

Quoting LY777 (Reply 4): Great TR! The new 738 Sky Interior sure looks amazing!
It really does give a much better sense of space, and the larger windows do help too
Quoting ba319-131 (Reply 5): Good to see you finally got on the new 738, looks like a vast improvement over the old 734's!
Hi Mark, its world's apart!...T-minus 3 days to board their new A333 to BNE

I actually still prefer GA's J seats, and somehow GA seems to have a more generous legroom too. GA has 3 rows in J while MH has 4. However, i wonder if GA will be getting any of their later B738 with the Boeing Sky Interior?
Quoting eastafspot (Reply 7): finally out of topic, guessing that all HSBC lounges are identical, would you go to an airline lounge or HSBC one at CGK?
I will still got to an airline one, sadly the HSBC Premier Lounge (which is strictly only for Premier members is now closed, therefore its now also a shared common lounge.
Quoting Quokka (Reply 8): Do you know whether that counts towards their 'down time' or can they be called upon to assist if necessary?
This is strictly their downtime, however, i am sure in an emergency they will help out
