I went to London in Feb of this year for a trip. I tried to find NC availability on the SFO-LHR route, but none was found. However, I was able to find NC availabilty on the ORD-LHR and back routes, so I knew this would be another good option. I bought an economy class ticket and I upgraded with my systemwide upgrades with this. It was very nice. This is a video trip report, because I only do video trip reports now. I have included some photos, but the entire report is the video (no commercials or ads!). I hope you enjoy it.

I really enjoyed this video TR. You caught some great shots. The seating looks comfortable and food looks decent on the ORD-LHR-ORD legs. Thanks for taking the time to video and post. It's the only way I get to fly Biz or First is on this forum! LOL

Very cool! Love the videos! So with UA J class lie flats...is it at all possible to get from the window seat to the aisle if the aisle is fully reclined?

Great vid as always! Enjoy your commentary too
I think the ham/bacon meat you had in the Star lounge was gammon? The porridge in the BMI lounge did not look particularly good, I agree, although these days we often have porridge with 'Golden Syrup' (don't know if you get that in the US), demerara sugar or honey - I always like some blueberries in it too! So next time you are in Britain, try it with one of those, it's quite nice!
I must say the new lie-flat UA product looks rather good, much better than my perhaps biased thoughts of what it was like. Hope you enjoyed your stay!

Another great video report!
United looks to offer a really nice lie-flat seat in Business; I'm not as impressed with the food, but looks like a nice way to go to London!
Love those views of the Boeing engines during takeoff too ... The thrust is incredible! Thanks for all the interesting facts.

Quoting DALelite (Reply 1): But food looks very average, domesticaly and internationaly
Yes, I would say that is UA's biggest shortcoming: their food. If they took lessons from LH, LX, or SQ, they really could be a premium airline. They have the hard product---the new seat with great AVOD--but they just don't have the soft product down. Their food is better, but it is still leagues below other premium carriers.

Thank you very much. I am glad that you can enjoy it vicariously at least!

Yes, but you have to step over the aisle passenger. If you like to sleep without being disturbed, choose the window seat. Invariably, you may be brushed by the window pax if you are the aisle person sleeping. I always choose the window so that I won't have someone else brushing me as they go to the aisle. Thank you for the comment.
I love those seats out of LHR and I especially love the afternoon tea with the scones and cream!!
Thank you. Clotted cream is just awesome. I wishe we had it here in the USA.

I suppose you're right. I have never heard of gammon, but if that was it, it is darn tasty! It is really good. I think that's the stuff they have with "traditional English breakfasts," no? Yes, they had the golden syrup stuff, and I mixed it in. I guess I didn't mix enough in. I think I tried it before I put the syrup in also to taste it. But I suppose the same could be said about oatmeal. Without any flavoring, it's quite bland. I find it interesting that they don't have porridge in the USA, given that we're a former british colony. Many foods seem similar, and one would think that porridge woudl have easily translated over. I will try some with more flavors next time! But when I tried it in the BMI lounge, I was thinking, "Man, so this is what it was like when Oliver Twist wanted more food." I guess I needed to put more flavoring in it! Thank you for the comment!

Thank you for the nice comment. I agree with you about the food. UA really needs to "step up" with their food product. Hopefully, if they do, they can become a true premium carrier.

I jsut love these video TRs!
Now, I know I prop sound like a broken record by now based on what everyone else said but the food on the ORD-LHR leg didn't look at that to me. I mean, SFO-ORD I don't really expect much from domestic F and it seemed to be typical as to what I would find on DL, CO (although AA's food is always tops IMHO) but for the international leg I qould have expected at elasta full salad! It seems like the same bowl size on a domestic leg. At least with DL you get a soup/salad (full plate). Granted, they have to distinguish between C and J but this is all the reason why people like to fly the hybrids that is DL and was CO.
CAM2:"Lightning coming out of that one." CAM1: "What?"

I agree with you wholeheartedly. If UA would spend more time plating their meals, even, it would probably be a step up. It may be too much effort, but SQ definitely will plate their food. It is not served in the same dish that it is heated in on SQ. I would say that is UA's biggest weakness: food. It's interesting because UA is from the USA, and as the richest country in the world, you'd expect they haev good food. But instead, it does not hold a candle to the premium European and Asian carriers.

Love your comments on the food!
The 'fatty ham/bacon' your refer to is called 'back bacon'. It's the bit that's connected to the 'streaky' bacon sold in the US. I've never really been sure why only streaky is sold in the US when the nice meaty bit is cut off!
..and porridge is dull! - You have to add honey/sugar or if you're mad and Scottish, then salt.

I am glad that a true British person pointed this out. I never knew what it was, but I have certainly seen it a few times when I have been in London. I remember having it once when I had the "traditional English breakfast." It is strange why they don't seel it in the USA. They sell canadian bacon, of course, but that has no fat on it so it is almost just like ham. Yeah, the porridge was very strange. I will have to add honey to it next time! Thank you for the informative comment!
When I lived in San Francisco, I believe Mollie Stone's or Whole Foods sold it. I'm sure any of those swanky Nob Hill markets carry it as well.
Good stuff.
Wow, that's fantastic. This is great information. I normally don't shop at those expensive stores, so that's probably why I have not see it. But next time, I'll take a look to see if they have it. Thank you for the link. At least I'll be able to get it via mail! Thank you for the comment and great info!
