Had an 8 day break offered to me so I booked a trip to Florida and some July sunshine.
Arrived at Gatwick, my preferred ,airport around 10am,had checked-in on line and straight to the lounge.

http://i275.photobucket.com/albums/jj283/readytotaxi/Holiday%20Jun11/005.jpg
Monday morning and the lounge is looking rather empty, it stayed that way until I left at 10.45 and made my way to the gate.

http://i275.photobucket.com/albums/jj283/readytotaxi/Holiday%20Jun11/ticketout.jpg

The gate was lightly populated and boarding had begun, went down the ramp and greeted at the door by two nice ladies and directed to my seat. As I entered I was hit by a wall of heat, really very stuffy, I put my hand luggage on my seat and walked back to the door and exited the plane, it was so much cooler on the jetty bridge. I was quickly addressed by a member of the crew who knew of the problem and had spoken to the cockpit. A couple of minutes later the young lady returned and said the cabin was fine now, would I like to take my seat? I entered the aircraft again and it was very different, much cooler, the FA said that the cabin had been 84F due to some problems but they had been sorted now.

Champange and newspapers were offered and I took my seat 2B, I like this seat, no one stepping over your legs to reach the aisle and one of the first to have menu choice so you always get what you want. Push back and taxi were uneventful and with just one plane to land in front of us we where soon up and away. We had a flight time of 9hrs 20m today.

http://i275.photobucket.com/albums/jj283/readytotaxi/Holiday%20Jun11/006.jpg

Over the Irish Sea the bar service started, I had the Sancerre, it was brilliant and stayed with it for the rest of the trip, the quality of wine in Club always hits the mark.

The Menu

http://i275.photobucket.com/albums/jj283/readytotaxi/Holiday%20Jun11/winelist1.jpg

The IFE was up and running and I was watching the morning news from the BBC when the screen froze then went blank and then back to the “Home” screen. Okay,no big deal started it again, more wine and nibbles and 10 minutes later it crashed again. Only me, no one else had a problem. I “pinged” and the CSM appeared, I told her my problem and she said sorry and would go and reset it from her panel.

http://i275.photobucket.com/albums/jj283/readytotaxi/Holiday%20Jun11/007.jpg

The first course appeared, the Prawns were great, not overcooked and hard and the Quail eggs were tastey. As the dish was cleared away my screen which had been behaving well crashed again, it had lasted 20 minutes this time. Not fancying this for the next 9 hours I looked for an empty seat, there were several.
I gathered up my belongings and slipped across the aisle to a pair of empty seats, a crew member asked if I was okay and I explained the problem,he said sorry and got me a fresh glass of Sancerre as the main course came out from behind the curtain.

The fillet steak was good, not over cooked and the vegetables not to soggy either. In my move I had forgotten to bring my camera, which sat in my old seat for the rest of the trip,so no more photos until I got to my apartment in Orlando.

The apartment complex is called WorldQuest, have been staying here for a few years now, they really do run a good operation here, the staff are very helpful and the rooms large, clean and fitted out with quality furniture and fittings, 2 or 3 bedroom units are available.

http://i275.photobucket.com/albums/jj283/readytotaxi/Holiday%20Jun11/020.jpg

There is a nice view of the lake and of course the local residents, this one was about 6ft.

http://i275.photobucket.com/albums/jj283/readytotaxi/Holiday%20Jun11/019.jpg

The weather, being July, stayed in the 90’s every day and overnight never got much lower than 75.
And we had some really nice sunsets.

Now you have to rent a car to get around and why not have a great one!

Being July and hot we got the usual afternoon rain storm, but they don’t last long.

Well the 8 days just flew past and it was time to take the ride to the airport for the late afternoon flight home. Something I always found odd when you approach the airport from the South on Hwy 417 the runway access appears quite open from the road, lack of fencing?

http://i275.photobucket.com/albums/jj283/readytotaxi/Holiday%20Jun11/113.jpg

The Security line was quite light for a Sunday and I got past in under 10 minutes, that’s good.
Picked up a bottle of Remy Martin at the duty free and went to the Delta Crown lounge that BA share with a few others. A few glasses of wine and some nibbles later I went to the gate with 30 minutes to take off and it was empty, walked straight on and the two ladies at the aircraft door smiled and said we have been waiting just for you! and then giggled, I took my seat for the night flight home.
http://i275.photobucket.com/albums/jj283/readytotaxi/Holiday%20Jun11/BA04Kseat.jpg

I always like 4K, great for sleeping, good view out the window and exit straight to the aisle.

Newspaper and glass of Champange offered, chance to catch up the weeks news back home.
http://i275.photobucket.com/albums/jj283/readytotaxi/Holiday%20Jun11/116.jpg

20 minutes after I stepped onto the plane we pushed back with just one engine running and made our way out to 35L for departure.

I skip the “breakfast” offering on this route, have complained enough in the past, and wake up
as the “20 minutes to landing” warning comes from the cockpit.Quick dash to the toilet and then
some landing pictures.

After touchdown we turn off left and head toward the North terminal but just where we normally turn to the left our Captain turns right, oh no! we are going to park at the jet bridge, gate 111.

I say oh no only because this requires extra walking on my part to immigration. Oh well chance to take a few pics.

Not much of line at immigration and straight pass customs and on to the BA arrival lounge at Gatwick which is in a nearby hotel.

If you have never been in this lounge you are missing something.
Yes it is small but it has great staff good shower facilities and much more personal that T5 at LHR.
I usually spend 2-3 hours letting the rush pass and then leave the lounge around 9am.
Great flight BA, good staff good food good wine, looking forward to the next one.
Thanks for taking the time to read it.

A nice succinct report!

Looks like the quality of Club World main courses has improved slightly, which is welcome. On the outbound, surely you could've just gone back to your old seat to retrieve your camera?!

The arrivals lounge in the Sofitel hotel is a good facility, but IMO doesn't compare well to Galleries Arrivals at LHR T5, with the full hot breakfast and separate Concorde Breakfast Room for First passengers.

Hi 'Readytotaxi'

Thanks for a nice trip report. Nice you shared your entire journey - not only the flights.

Quoting readytotaxi (Thread starter):
The IFE was up and running and I was watching the morning news from the BBC when the screen froze then went blank and then back to the “Home” screen. Okay,no big deal started it again, more wine and nibbles and 10 minutes later it crashed again. Only me, no one else had a problem.

Well, I had an almost identical problem on a flight with Turkish Airlines DXB-IST in February this year. After the screen froze the second time, a reset from the flight attendant and everything worked just fine.
There was just one difference - I was travelling in economy class
Quoting readytotaxi (Thread starter):
Now you have to rent a car to get around and why not have a great one!
Chevvy Camero Convertable in screaming loud yellow, fast and such a lot of fun, turned lots of heads.

I wouldn't dare driving such a car - first of all I do not like being in the centre of attention, and, secondly, I would be scared that it would get scratches.. A very beautiful car anyway!

That looks very good, would be a perfect meal if you ask me!
I don't know if that crew member was a little bit too honest with you, you didn't see the salmon dish yourself?

Cheers!

Nice report from this service, I'm tempted to try it later this summer if the British weather stays like this. The "undersized" salmon comment made me chuckle- she probably just wanted it herself!

Nice report and great pictures!

Particularly liked the ones departing MCO, although what you actually saw was Cape Canaveral Air Force Station which is a bit to the south of KSC. If you'd been on the other side of the aircraft you'd have had a superb view of the VAB, Shuttle Landing Facility and Launch Complex 39.

Hi!

Just wanted to say many thanks for the report. I enjoyed taking the flight with you (in writing) and looks like you had a good time in Orlando too. What I like about car rentals in the US is that once you decide on the type of car you want they from my experience just tell you to go to that section and pick any car you want. I love doing that! Did you book the car rental from the UK? For some reason it's much cheaper or was in the past. Anyway many thanks for the detailed report. Loved the meals and in flight shots and stuff.

Many thanks,

Pierre
