Hi there!

Welcome to my first TR - long time lurker, first time poster.

The opportunity came up for my wife and I to spend the night away from it all up in Shark Bay - specifically, Monkey Mia Dolphin Resort, Western Australia

Booking was done in person at the terminal, simply because I was in the vicinity at the time anyway.

Check-in at 07h45, for a 09h00 departure.

Shortly before boarding time, it was announced that the ONLY flight for the day will be delayed by approx one hour, due to a late crew sign on... bummer.

At 10h00 boarding was announced, and my bird will be Dash 8-106 VH-XFP, manufactured 1992 and with Skippers since 1999.

This photo was taken at Shark Bay, I was unable to get a photo of the aircraft at Skippers.

Please excuse the lack of photos here and there, I'm not used to photologging my flights yet, and I tend to forget!!

Service on board consisted of drinks and a cookie only - either water, apple or orange juice, tea or coffee.

It was a peaceful and uneventful flight, the pilot announced a flight time of 1hr 45mins, at FL190.

We landed at 12h20.

I made a landing video here - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bVLd7zvbD_0

And here are the other inhabitants of Shark Bay Airport!!

We stayed only 1 night at Monkey Mia Dolphin Resort - being winter, we anticipated rain, and thats what we got!! Never the less, being only one metre from a wild dolphin is a surreal experience.

The restaurant at the resort is of high quality, with excellent quality meals.

The following day we made our way back to to the airport.

We were greeted by VH-XFW, a Dash 8-314. Manufactured in 1993 and flying for Skippers since 2006.

Boarding was at 13h20 today, for a total flight time of 1hr 40mins.

Recorded take off - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=b3koQETa_dc

In flight service was identical to the previous flight, however the coffee was made a lot better  http://img41.imageshack.us/img41/7297/img0130xc.jpg

As you can see, the load was quite light, perhaps 60% at the most.

In flight shot, I wonder about the propeller distortion - is that something to do with the iPhone camera, or the window glass?? We were again cruising at FL190 at that stage.

We landed at 15h00 - perfect timing.

Landing at Perth International Airport - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=sOr1N9yPUdA

Thanks for reading, I will endeavor to improve my photography and reporting skills at time goes on

Nice first report, good decision to start posting. Both Skippers Aviation and the DHC-8-100 would be great targets for the PlaneHunter...

Thanks guys, I'm glad I could present something new for you.

PlaneHunter - you may have missed your chance, a few of the Dash 8-100/-300 in the Skippers fleet are ex-Augsburg Airlines

Hi there - thanks for your report and pics. Great to see some more Dash 8 action in Australia.

Yes, the iphone does distort the propeller - I had the same issue when I took a couple of snaps from the window of my Wideroe Dash 8 in Norway back in May.

Look forward to more reports from you. Any more trips planned?

Cheers P/jet

Absolutely! My wife and I are off to Las Vegas for Christmas visiting my family. I will be reporting on domestic Qantas A332 and Qantas A380 to LAX. Although with the constant union threats and strike action from the Qantas workforce I wish I had booked V Australia!

Nice little report, D3funct.

I see it's the same airline which flew some of the Masterchef Australia contestants from somewhere to Margaret River..

It's to do with the camera shutter and it somehow distorts the propeller blade as I think it's travelling faster than the camera shutter speed and ends up distorting the image.

Cheers,
Nicholas

Thanks for your first trip report and good to see something on Skippers Aviation. I have seen these Dash 8's flying over my house and always thought they were all mining flights. Nice to see that some of them are taking people to lovely Monkey Mia.

Cheers

Hi D3funct and welcome to A.net.

Nice to see a report from WA and one covering a company that seldom is mentioned in these forums.

You are excused this time.  Seriously though, even after several flights I sometimes tend to forget, especially when the food gets served.

Just enough to stop you starving on a short flight. I assume that it was included in the fare and not BOB.

A great first report and you will develop your own style as you go along. If you have any photos of your destination when you go to Las Vegas at Christmas, don't forget to include them as not everyone has been and I am sure photos will be welcome.

Thanks for sharing,
Quokka

Great stuff - look forward to another report from you on these flights. I hope things settle down at QF although it certainly looks like a bumpy ride ahead. I am due to fly with QF at Christmas time as well from LHR down to BNE. Like you, I hope the flights operate!
