Stalin´s tooth or how to take SP-LIA to meet SP-LTA

http://i22.photobucket.com/albums/b305/FLIEGER67/PL1101/Polen1101018.jpg

Czesc, dear readers,

turning the calendar around, for the second half of the year, that´s finally done and now it´s early July.
I was in Warsaw some years ago, but abandoning the city on the Warszawa-Berlin Express train. So it seems a good idea to catch WAW as a new departure airport. Beside that, to climb up this super special building called Pałac Kultury i Nauki or better know as Stalin´s tooth is also on my to-do-list.
A good friend here contacted me some days prior to the trip and what´s better than to do this with local companion at your destination?.

Logged five flights on SK the last time

Blue And Red Take Five And An A.net Joint Flight (by FLIEGER67 Sep 17 2011 in Trip Reports)

So it seems also a good assignment to Mr. S., the lazy guy at the scheduling department, to go for a bit more variety today in airlines and aircrafts.
He responded some days later, four airlines, four different plane types, three lounges, anything else needed?.
Ok, no complaints here.
Well, some sun will be also nice!.

Service SK 668 operated by SAS Scandinavian Airlines
Scheduled: 07.00 // 08.35

SK is on a summer campaign, so it seems, a number of good offers also on the STR-CPH route.
S. secured the first leg of the day by Fly.de for as low as 55.00 Euro´s one way. Web-Check-In is ok, again with the LH website, seat 23 F, the second to last row window for me .
No need to change the cellphone alarm from the last experience, 4.00 am is well ontime to reach the airport
with a good time buffer.
It looks like, that the car found the way close to without any action from me, also the usual parking spot with the shortest walking distance to the terminal is open.
The well needed sidestep to the LH First Class Check-In desk now, to update my Senator status which is hopefully in the system for further bookings.
Well, I received the classic paper boarding pass, ok so far.
Let me check the screen. Everything ok with my service
from the well known gate 159?
http://i22.photobucket.com/albums/b305/FLIEGER67/PL1101/Polen1101002.jpg
No time to wait at security today.
No need to go down to the groundfloor first, I know the way.
Upstairs right now to join the Senator lounge.
Well presented and welcoming looking offers this morning
http://i22.photobucket.com/albums/b305/FLIEGER67/PL1101/Polen1101003.jpg
Boarding is on the screen, time to head for the gate now.
Where is the sun gone?. It´s summer here in Germany, at least according to the calendar
http://i22.photobucket.com/albums/b305/FLIEGER67/PL1101/Polen1101004.jpg
"Bertil Viking" or OY-KFC will shuttle me to CPH today, that reg sounds new to me.
So it is, leg no. 9 on the scheduled CRJ900.
This plane is in service with SK since 20.02.2009.
There are 12 examples in the actual CRJ900 fleet
http://i22.photobucket.com/albums/b305/FLIEGER67/PL1101/Polen1101005.jpg
And we know, I like the themes
http://i22.photobucket.com/albums/b305/FLIEGER67/PL1101/Polen1101006.jpg
Boarding now
http://i22.photobucket.com/albums/b305/FLIEGER67/PL1101/Polen1101007.jpg
Cockpit crew is from Scandinavia. The captain with a short welcome during boarding.
06.55 am, short ahead to schedule, 15 degrees. It´s wet here, but thankfully no more rain right now.
1 hour, 05 minutes for CPH, departure from runway 07.
The modern style cabin ceiling
http://i22.photobucket.com/albums/b305/FLIEGER67/PL1101/Polen1101008.jpg
Cabin crew is one young and nice male, together with a very nice young blonde female.
Service is as good as usual, nothing for free!.
The safety card
http://i22.photobucket.com/albums/b305/FLIEGER67/PL1101/Polen1101009.jpg
Load is some 60%, mostly biz pax today.
Nerved loud music from the pax in 22F. If he like this kind of stuff, ok, but imagine there are other pax around who maybe don´t like it. It was a terrible cheap mix up and down the charts from some years ago.
He falls asleep with his headset but I want to read my book.
Comfy legroom here with the darkblue fabric seaters. Two for me
http://i22.photobucket.com/albums/b305/FLIEGER67/PL1101/Polen1101010.jpg
The captain is on the mike again, very nice and detailed. We´re cruising east of HAJ at 36000 feet.
Clouds ahead, it seems also not the expected summer weather in Denmark
http://i22.photobucket.com/albums/b305/FLIEGER67/PL1101/Polen1101011.jpg
The captain again with weather informations very nice on approach.
3300 meters runway 22L is doubtless enough for us today. 8.20 am,15 minutes ahead to schedule, 17 degrees and light fog around.
Bye now to OY-KFC, if nothing goes wrong, no chance to fly this machine twice today
http://i22.photobucket.com/albums/b305/FLIEGER67/PL1101/Polen1101012.jpg
Up the stairs to the terminal entrance, en route for the next step now.
"Are you satisfied?". S. texted me immediatelly after my arrival at CPH, sitting in his comfy armchair, a bottle of Koneser Vodka from Praga on the table to prepare himself for my visit in Warszawa.
Well, there are no complaints till now!.

Service LO 464 operated by LOT Polish Airlines
Scheduled: 09.55 // 11.20

The SK lounge is also available with my upcoming LOT flight.
No way to miss that place.
But there is something else to fix at first.
S. booked this flight with Exp.de, the fare also ok with 55.00 Euro´s.
There is a confirmation code and also a ticket number on my paper.
LOT´s website shows OLCI ok for this flight, but it doesn´t work.
Several attempts later, there is no seat selected and no boarding pass printed, no, I´am not amused with LOT this time.
Good to know that there is an airside transfer center at CPH, sure the place to go for me now.
Scheduled departure is a good hour from now. Will there be my favourite seat still available or is there something else going totally wrong with the flight?.
Taken a number as usual in Scandinavia.
My number is on the screen. A male agent at the counter, the supervisor according to his badge.
"Good morning, OLCI doesn´t work with my connection on LOT. Is it possible to check in here?".
"Sure, let me see you´re confirmation and passport.
Everything ok with the flight, there is no reason visible for the not working check in".
"Ok, good to know, is there still a window available, maybe the last row?".
"Well, the service is not fully booked, 18A, is this ok for you, no more windows further in the rear of the cabin open?".
"Thank you, that´s sure ok in this case".
Time for the lounge now, with a much better feeling, to say the least.
Cake and cookies
http://i22.photobucket.com/albums/b305/FLIEGER67/PL1101/Polen1101013.jpg
Or what about bread and cheese?
http://i22.photobucket.com/albums/b305/FLIEGER67/PL1101/Polen1101014.jpg
Oldfashioned but comfortable seaters here
http://i22.photobucket.com/albums/b305/FLIEGER67/PL1101/Polen1101015.jpg
Warsaw seems ok from gate B19
http://i22.photobucket.com/albums/b305/FLIEGER67/PL1101/Polen1101016.jpg
A couple of meters to walk, so let me go now.
The red bird on the taxiway looks like also interesting
http://i22.photobucket.com/albums/b305/FLIEGER67/PL1101/Polen1101017.jpg
SP-LIA, the warm welcomed E175 like on schedule is waiting.
With two legs on type only till now, easy to check, that this is a new registration for me.
There are 12 examples in the LOT fleet and this is the first delivered at 28.04.2006
http://i22.photobucket.com/albums/b305/FLIEGER67/PL1101/Polen1101018.jpg
Boarding started soon thereafter.
No real need for it, but anyway we go from the longest runway, 3600 meters 22R. 10.05 am, ten minutes late, still some fog around and 17 degrees. 1 hour 05 minutes for Poland.
Cabin crew is one male, one female, both well middle aged and ok.
This is the good looking safety card
http://i22.photobucket.com/albums/b305/FLIEGER67/PL1101/Polen1101019.jpg
And the actual Kaleidoscope magazin
http://i22.photobucket.com/albums/b305/FLIEGER67/PL1101/Polen1101020.jpg
Legroom is sure ok, two seats for me here, the load is 90 %
http://i22.photobucket.com/albums/b305/FLIEGER67/PL1101/Polen1101021.jpg
The good looking cabin fitted with well used bright grey leather seats
http://i22.photobucket.com/albums/b305/FLIEGER67/PL1101/Polen1101022.jpg
Cockpit crew is from Poland, the captain with a short, but nevertheless nice statement inflight.
Cruise level is 33000 feet, no route information.
Clouds all the way
http://i22.photobucket.com/albums/b305/FLIEGER67/PL1101/Polen1101023.jpg
What about a muffin?
http://i22.photobucket.com/albums/b305/FLIEGER67/PL1101/Polen1101024.jpg
Touchdown at WAW´s longer, 3690 meters, runway 33. 11.20 am, ontime, it´s wet here with 17 degrees

Close to under the wing
http://i22.photobucket.com/albums/b305/FLIEGER67/PL1101/Polen1101030.jpg
S. texted me short after my arrival. "Everything ok?".
He want to check his polish part of the story, the Koneser Vodka, en detail now!.
Sure no complaints by now, everything is working on schedule.
Out in the public, here we go.
A couple of text´s in and out with our friendly local colleague SP-LTA/M. and we fixed an agreement to meet opposite the terminal at the hotels entrance.
Terminal view

I was in Warsaw a couple of years ago and I like this city. A number of the sightseeing spots are done.
Missing and since there always on my list is a ride up the Pałac Kultury i Nauki and a view from above. It was not possible to go up due to renovation works and the closed escalator the last time.
It´s the tallest building in Poland and till 1990 it was the tallest building around the actual EU countries.
And no, there is absolutely no correlation with the former soviet union!.
SP-LTA decides to spend some hours with me and shuttle me around to fix my plan.
The meeting worked perfectly ontime, acceptable traffic and soon thereafter in the city.
Parked the car and yes that´s it

The CRJ900 is on schedule, not that well covered in my log, so it seems interesting to ride another one.
But there are considerably to few seats on the map during OLCI.
Now that´s a surprise, the CRJ200, warm welcomed, sure not the most comfortable plane type, nevertheless with more than 250 legs ago since the last ride ok

Service airberlin AB 6842 operated by LGW Luftfahrtgesellschaft Walter
Scheduled: 19.10 // 20.10

There is no intra terminal connection between the A and B parts, so arrival with LH at A and departure with AB from B, out in the public for me now.
S. fixed this leg by AB directly, the fare as good as 40.00 Euro´s.
OLCI works properly, seat 19F for me on the scheduled Dash 8-400.
LH by Contact Air is running late, not the first time, we know
http://i22.photobucket.com/albums/b305/FLIEGER67/PL1101/Polen1101093.jpg
No lounge with AB today.
No time to wait at security.
Nice stuff on the apron
http://i22.photobucket.com/albums/b305/FLIEGER67/PL1101/Polen1101094.jpg
Some biz guy´s complaining with the gate agent about the delay.
Now he´s surprised. There is no delay visible on the screen.
But, you know, always the biz guys, dont noticed that it´s LH with the delay and not AB!.
Boarding by bus, this time from B26
http://i22.photobucket.com/albums/b305/FLIEGER67/PL1101/Polen1101095.jpg
We had to wait some minutes in the bus. The ramp agent talked to the bus driver about really bad weather at STR and it´s yet unclear when we´re ready to go.
"Should we shuttle the pax better back to the terminal?", is his question.
"Not at all, we will wait here in the bus till further informations".
I like these colours on the Dash
http://i22.photobucket.com/albums/b305/FLIEGER67/PL1101/Polen1101096.jpg
Operated by LGW, always my internal question how many of the pax noticed it

This is D-ABQH, leg no. 23 on the Dash 8-400, done this bird last year also on TXL-GDN.
In service with LGW since 30.05.2009.
There are 10 planes in the actual fleet

Cockpit crew is from Germany, the captain with a very nice and relaxed welcome after boarding is completed.
One cabin crew member got sick during the inbound flight from STR. A standby FA is called in and we need to wait till she arrives, but anyway there are traffic restrictions for STR and it might be possible that the standby crew member is faster than our slot.
Finally she arrived and we see now two female FA´s,
both middle aged and nice.
We had a nice chat along the flight about the complaining pax, always AB and so on, but it´s natural that someone got sick, isn´t it?.
She made it in 50 minutes from receiving the call at home till boarding the plane. Sure ok from my point of view.
Well, with the internal weather information and the official cabin crew change statement, I´am really looking forward to this flight.
The longer runway 23L, 3000 meter, is our point to go for the 55 minutes to STR.
7.30 pm, twenty minutes late, 23 degrees and partly cloudy.
The safety card

The modern style cabin ceiling

Dark blue leather seaters, not that really clean. The load is 70%.
Legroom is ok here in the last row. 20A finally, two for me. Recline is ok

Service, tastes nicely
http://i22.photobucket.com/albums/b305/FLIEGER67/PL1101/Polen1101107.jpg
Dark sky and heavy clouds close to STR.
The early approach is nothing out of the ordinary, much more interesting on short finals. The plane jumping up and down.
Touchdown finally at 25, 08.30 pm, twenty minutes late, 16 degrees, a thunderstorm has passed the airport and it´s wet, to say the least, outside.
Well, that´s the view from the, also inside around the doors, soaking wet bus, when you disembark a plane in heavy rain after some thunderstorms
http://i22.photobucket.com/albums/b305/FLIEGER67/PL1101/Polen1101110.jpg
Sure, a deep breath, you know. The airport was closed
from 6.00 pm. With the heavy thunderstorms and the rain pouring down, we´re simply the first arrival after the re-opening and have a view to LH´s service from DUS, running 1 hour 20 minutes late by now
http://i22.photobucket.com/albums/b305/FLIEGER67/PL1101/Polen1101112.jpg

S. is also a little bit nervous when he texted me, "Where you are" and I respond "At STR, close to as scheduled!".

So, great thanx to M./SP-LTA, is there anything better than to have a view around you´re destination with local companion and nice talking?.

And now?.
Heavy biz around, some three weeks without leisure flying and than returning to the skies for another warm welcomed local A.net meet up at ANR and a very special view into LCY.

Na razie, comments are really welcomed,
FLIEGER67 or Markus Klaus Felger, that´s the way Facebook knows me!.

Hi Markus,

interesting report with nice pictures from Warsaw! It's certainly nice to have a guide such as SPLTA.

Quoting FLIEGER67 (Thread starter):
Upstairs right now to join the Senator lounge.
Well presented and welcoming looking offers this morning

Looks fine, what did you choose?

Quoting FLIEGER67 (Thread starter):
"Bertil Viking" or OY-KFC will shuttle me to CPH today, that reg sounds new to me.
So it is, leg no. 9 on the scheduled CRJ900.

If you continue to fly SK so often, you will soon get all of them!

Quoting FLIEGER67 (Thread starter):
Oldfashioned but comfortable seaters here

No apron/runway views? Lounges are nice, but pretty much worthless if I cannot see any planes IMO.

Quoting FLIEGER67 (Thread starter):
8 active examples are in the actual fleet

It seems they have all been retired, only CRJ900s left in the fleet.

Nice report once again, Markus!

Quoting FLIEGER67 (Thread starter):
Nerved loud music from the pax in 22F. If he like this kind of stuff, ok, but imagine there are other pax around who maybe don´t like it. It was a terrible cheap mix up and down the charts from some years ago.
He falls asleep with his headset but I want to read my book.

I actually logged OY-KFC September 2nd this year as well and was seated on 22F. But no loud music - only quiet Madonna this time

Warsaw is really ugly but certainly there is something that appeals to me as well. But not the Stalin's tooth for sure!

Looking forward to your Kemi report,

Jani

Hi Markus,

Interesting routing, seems like you had some very nice flights. Warsaw looks very interesting, should probably pay a visit sometime in the future.

Quoting FLIEGER67 (Thread starter):
Or what about bread and cheese?

I love the cheese cutting 'machine', I've only seen that in Denmark.

Quoting FLIEGER67 (Thread starter):
Now that´s a surprise, the CRJ200, warm welcomed, sure not the most comfortable plane type, nevertheless with more than 250 legs ago since the last ride ok

I wish I would have 250 legs in between my CRJ2 flights   But it seems I can't have a trip without one

Love the red dress from the 60s.

That lounge in WAW is indeed impressive, very stylish.

There is no intra terminal connection between the A and B parts, so arrival with LH at A and departure with AB from B, out in the public for me now.

Something to do this week, only the other way round?

But, you know, always the biz guys, dont noticed that it´s LH with the delay and not AB!.

Tell me about it!! Just last week I had a guy who missed the LX flight to JFK, thinking it was delayed. He'd been monitoring the AA flight 15 minutes later and hadn't gone to the gate - by the time he came to ask me, the LX flight was already closed.

Hi Markus,

Good to follow your latest story. Some sun, some rain, some plane(s) and local a.net company in WAW, a perfect recipe for a nice day. Mr S must've been a bit on the stressy side with a possible delay an arrival into STR, but after a quick call and a question for reopening soon, he was satisfied it seems   This 'LGW' name: I always laugh when I see what it stands for, such a funny name for an air company!

More to come and really good to know, I dont see that much in such a short time without you´re company.

Hi Markus,

Great report as always. It seemed like you had 4 decent flights with 3 different star alliance carriers & AB. Warsaw doesn't seem like an intensely pretty city but it does look like a great place to explore a bit.

Thanks for sharing!

Hi Markus!

Great tripreport, as usual.

Looks like you had a nice couple of flights with different airlines!

The WAW airport looks really nice.

"Bertil Viking" or OY-KFC will shuttle me to CPH today, that reg sounds new to me.

I flew CPH-MAN in that bird this summer, I like the registration!
Quoting FLIEGER67 (Thread starter):
I like these colours on the Dash

Yea, those Dashes looks nice in the AB livery.

Thank you, counting the segments on Star, you know and indeed Warsaw is an interesting place to explore.

Hi Markus,

Finally I get around to reading another exciting report of yours. I remember you mentioning about this trip after our meeting last July.

Quoting FLIEGER67 (Thread starter):
Where is the sun gone?. It´s summer here in Germany, at least according to the calendar

The same story in Holland.

Quoting FLIEGER67 (Thread starter):
He falls asleep with his headset but I want to read my book.

I would have read my book loud and clear next to his ears.

Quoting FLIEGER67 (Thread starter):
a bottle of Koneser Vodka from Praga on the table to prepare himself for my visit in Warszawa

Czech Vodka for a visit to Poland. It looks like Mr. S. had it already too much.

Quoting FLIEGER67 (Reply 1):
Oldfashioned but comfortable seaters here

Somehow, it would fit better in AZ’s lounge.

Quoting FLIEGER67 (Reply 1):
What about a muffin?

Yummy. But no drinks?

Quoting FLIEGER67 (Reply 1):
The ghetto wall from the second world war

Intriguingly sad history.

Quoting FLIEGER67 (Reply 2):
What a good idea, an exhibition with the former LOT uniforms

Could it have been a courtesy of uniformfreak?

Quoting FLIEGER67 (Reply 2):
Russian material on the ramp

Wow, Yak-40 and TU-154 biz-jets!

Quoting FLIEGER67 (Reply 2):
And not that much customers around

Is it not great?

Quoting FLIEGER67 (Reply 2):
Some biz guy´s complaining with the gate agent about the delay.
Now he´s surprised. There is no delay visible on the screen.
But, you know, always the biz guys, dont noticed that it´s LH with the delay and not AB!.

Who was apparently in need of a pair of reading glasses.

Thank you for sharing this lovely story, especially the scenery pictures of Warsaw. Oh, I like the split up, make it easier for commenting.

Best wishes,
Suryo

The same story in Holland.

Everywhere around Europe, so it seems.

Quoting akhmad (Reply 20):

Good point, I should do it this way.

Quoting akhmad (Reply 20):

Czech Vodka for a visit to Poland. It looks like Mr. S. had it already too much.

Sure a bit confusing.
Praga is a former industrial city part of Warsaw and the homebase of the Koneser Vodka company.

Quoting akhmad (Reply 20):

Somehow, it would fit better in AZ’s lounge.

Good point again, that fit´s for sure.

Quoting akhmad (Reply 20):

Yummy. But no drinks?

Served later on.

Quoting akhmad (Reply 20):

Intriguingly sad history.

That´s it, for sure.

Quoting akhmad (Reply 20):
Could it have been a courtesy of uniformfreak?

Hah, good point here.

Quoting akhmad (Reply 20):

Wow, Yak-40 and TU-154 biz-jets!

Not sure if it´s all operational.

Quoting akhmad (Reply 20):

Is it not great?

That is great.

Quoting akhmad (Reply 20):

Who was apparently in need of a pair of reading glasses.

Or think twice before complaining.

Hey Markus ,
Very nice detailed report as usual. I was on a new LOT E Jet on the DUB-WAW route in May 2006 hard to believe those years have gone by so quickly. Never tired of seeing the LOT reports also and makes me want to fly them again. Never seen the new lounge and it looks very nice. I stayed at the Intercontinental Hotel which looks over to the ''Wedding cake'' Soviet building . Some amazing views for sure.

Thanks for the report.

Regards

Philip
