OK, so this is like 2 years old and the pics have just been sitting in a file ready for me to write this trip report, so I guess I'll go ahead and do it. Once I get this done there are a few other really good ones I should write. We'll see if I accomplish that or not.
I was in SJU for business, and my co-workers flew standby SJU-DFW and ended up in middle seats for that rather long flight. I went SJU JFK DFW with a 6 hour layover in JFK, and got first class the whole way, and so I'll let you be the judge of who got the better deal!
It was an early morning, as I was going to catch the first flight to JFK. I was at the Courtyard Isla Verde I think.
Another view of the morning.
No, my plane wasn't climbing out yet, my camera was tilted. This was the only shot I could get of it due to the duty free shops & etc.
When I got to the gate, I was happy to learn that I was upgraded to a first class (technically business class on this flight) window seat. Here's my view.
Not much going on in SJU this morning.
Now over the water, and we remained over the water until landing!
There's Long Island in the distance. That was the next land that I saw. I remember sleeping most of that flight and I didn't get a pic of the breakfast, but I'm sure it was fabulous.
Arriving JFK gate 40. I do love AA's JFK Terminal now.
And we have arrived.
Jet Airways is one of the other airlines that use Terminal 8. Air Berlin, Qatar, and Finnair also use it, and eventually BA will move there.
I had 6 hours between flights, so I was off to Manhattan for lunch and to see the Intrepid Museum!
Mind the gap! (American style)
Using the Air Train and then LIRR takes about 45 minutes to get to Manhattan and costs like $10, so it's not bad.
And it drops you off here!
The sights, sounds, and smells of New York!
Approaching the Intrepid
Here's the fastest Transatlantic Vessel sitting on top of the slowest Transatlantic Vessel
Here are a bunch of pics I took on the Intrepid.
So I eventually had to head back to JFK to get home to DFW. Remember, the point of this layover was just to get me from San Juan to DFW, after all!
Here I am at the Oasis Lounge in Terminal 4. Look at all the Delta.
KLM 777
I used to see PIA at IAH all the time
Inside Terminal 4 (this is still landslide and not behind security.. though that will change soon)
Not sure why the Shamrock isn't green.. camera issues I suppose.
I really do love JFK plane spotting. It's so international.
See the KLM J-class stuff in the China cabinet?
Free food in the Oasis!
I love Milano cookies!
A self-serve bar
OK back to some more planes...
Open Skies!
A good lineup today at T7... on my way to T8
AA's Air Berlin check-in
Non Rev lounge, where I went to check on my flight home
OK... so for the flight home. I boarded and had seat 28F. It was my first time on a re-configured TATL 757, so I was curious to see what they had done with the plane in both J and Y.
You can already see the updated wall panel with the AA Eagle and the updated A/V.
Business Class looked nice. Definitely on-par with the 777 and 763 at first impression. Look.. I don't see anyone in 4F!
Headrests in coach on a 757! No TV's hanging down in the aisle either!
Plenty of room to add seat back TVs if they wanted to. I thought the lack of tray tables at the exit row looked weird (they are in the armrest)
Legroom shot!
Headrests
Flip-down TVs showing a soothing, calm boarding video
OK, so I was sitting in 28F, minding my own business, and an AAgent came up to me and said, "Are you Mr. B?" I said yes. He said, "We have a new seat assignment for you if you can collect your belongings now. You are in seat 4F"
I was like... no way! That never happens!
My seat 4F! Much better than the 763 J class already, and actually slightly more updated than the 777 J seats!
Eagle! (Sorry, I had to!)
Seat controls!
Time for dinner
And dessert. You can see how the tray tables have useful shelves and whatnot. There's also a cubby hole to put your shoes in between the seats.
Listening to classical as I read a book
Sort of an overview of the seating area
I think I waited until my seat mate was asleep before I went crazy with pics! But this gives an idea of how the seats work.
The Texas border!
So, usually I have a bit more commentary in my trip reports, but this was has been delayed for 2-3 years, so I don't remember the details. However, I hope you enjoyed all the pics!
Comments are always welcome.
Thanks,
Matt
See! I knew American Eagle was First Class all along!

Nice report. As the saying goes, better late than never!
Quoting DFW36L (Thread starter): and my co-workers flew standby SJU-DFW and ended up in middle seats for that rather long flight.
Ahh, the dreaded middle seat. None of those for me, thanks.

Winner.
The various bits of food looked good, too. Would you happen to remember what the in-flight dinner was?
I've flown with Charlie I, Buddy, Earl, Carl I, Lucy II, Fritz, Stretch, L.J., Thunder, Flip, André, and 21 others

Nice report. I'm planning on non-reving up to the Intrepid museum sometime in the near future, looks like my plan wasn't all that unique...
Quoting DFW36L (Thread starter): Non Rev lounge, where I went to check on my flight home
I'm curious, what exactly is a Non-rev lounge? In all my flights as an NRSA on DL, I've never come across something like that. Is it something unique to American, simply a sort of crew room?

I think AA is currently the only airline to provide lounges for its employees who are traveling. Really it's just a breakroom for travelers, which usually has whatever you'd find in an airport breakroom such as street price vending machines, a table, maybe some comfy chairs and couches, and most importantly, a few computer to check flights. They vary in size, and all the furniture is donated, and the employees are supposed to clean them. At LGA and LAX and JFK, for example, they are small. At DFW they use the former Flagship lounge in terminal A from when the int'l departures were in A, so it's a big lounge, so they all vary.

Good trip report. Its nice to see that AA placed the new business in something other than a 777. I flew SJU-LAX several times in First (or business depending on how they call it) on the 757, was never lucky enough to get their newer product.

Good report!
Looks like a really nice J cabin on the 757. I wish I had gotten that on my last flight domestically with AA in F ! Looks very stylish, and what comfortable seats!

Hi Matt,
Nice report, thanks for sharing, don't worry about the delay, I've similar issues on at the moment!
Quoting DFW36L (Thread starter): Using the Air Train and then LIRR takes about 45 minutes to get to Manhattan and costs like $10, so it's not bad
- Pretty cheap, but I like taking the cab, love watching the views outside.
Quoting DFW36L (Thread starter): Here are a bunch of pics I took on the Intrepid.
- Cool, reminds me of my visit there last year

The intl J config on the 757 looks better than the 763 fleet!

Hi
Nice trip report and nice visit to the interprid museum. Did not realise there was a concorde parked as well.
it's nice having an international J-product on a short hop as JFK-DFW. J looks good, Y however looks cramped for longer flights

I'm wondering how a non-rev got upgraded on a JFK-DFW flight. I can't believe there wasn't another elite onboard that hadn't been upgraded, a gold if not an ex-plat or a plat.

Quoting fawannabe (Reply 4): I think their giving delta's 757 TATL a run for its money
Without AVOD at every seat throughout the aircraft? Don't think so....

Wow cheers for this amazing TR! I loved your pics! I also went to NYC and went to the Intrepid and Concorde. Brilliant place, long live Concorde! I also loved your JFK pics! I only done EWR and LGA. The pic I liked the best was the three BA 747's with the open skies 757, for a moment there it looks like LHR. Anyway cheers again.
