Getting A Beaver's Eye View Of Vancouver

With the trip to Canada coming to an end soon, what other float plane flights can we go on?. We have done a flight over Whistler, done a island hopping flight, so that left maybe a flight over Vancouver.

Tofino air do several scenic flights ranging from 20 to 45 minutes. We did the 30 minute one.

Vancouver Harbour Seaplane Base
Date: Tuesday 16 August 2011
Seat: Middle row by left door
Aircraft: DHC-2 Beaver
Registration: C-FHRT

Again due to the nature of this flight, I will let the pictures tell the story.

Third Beaver I have flown on, and all still had their radial engines.

Took off from Vancouver harbor headed up a valley towards a lake which we landed on and sat with the engine off for about 10 minutes. Was not expecting this, at first when we landed on the lake I was thinking we were dropping something off at an isolated fishing hut or something, but the pilot cut the engine in the middle of the lake, and just sat there in the middle of the lake. If you wanted a couple of people got out and stood on one of the floats for a while.

After about 10 minutes we took off from the lake (can't remember the name of the lake). Looking at Google earth, the lake was near a place called Iron Bay.

Flew back to Vancouver harbor.

Uneventful landing.

After the flight dad went wandering around gas town while I stayed at the floatplanes and watched takeoff and landings.
