it seems, that I should go for more flying.
Two days only?. Reason enough to call Mr.S., the lazy young guy from the scheduling department.
"S. is this true, inbound from STN just some 36 hours ago and now on the run again?".
"Sure it is, the days going shorter soon and it´s the time of the year with usually nice weather conditions around the alps. I´ve decided to book a couple of more flights for you. And also a friend from A.net confirmed to meet you in Ljubljana.
And be sure, I will follow you".
Well in this case!.
Service HG 8773 operated by Niki
Scheduled: 19.15 // 20.35
Originally booked was a daytrip early morning out of FRA and back in the evening.
However I am a bit out of interest with these early morning departures and fullfilled days.
Mr.S. accepted the cancellation of the first leg on Saturday and offered me a nice new combination.
On the road at 2.00 pm, a biz conference on the phone from the motorway service area in between. The road is well used, but no major congestions, well ontime at my standard parking spot for FRA, Tourcare located in Neu-Isenburg, not far from the airport.
The guy at the counter recognized me, same with the shuttle bus driver. It seems, that I´am often here.
I am the only pax in the shuttle, so we had a good chat about my strategic objectives today.
Terminal 2 for me, let´s go for a first view on the screen about my flight.
The surprise from OLCI is confirmed. It´s an A320 on schedule, but the seatmap shows the E90 and also the screen, no complaints here
I´am not interested to stay landside now, security isn´t busy to say the least with more agents than customers and so I´am checked in a minute.
No lounge here with Niki.
Nice different colours on the apron
Saga from Turkey on the run for Ariana to Kabul
Gate E 24 for my service now
I like these livery
S. fixed this leg by Exp.de. The fare acceptable 55.00 Euro´s.
A good number of people around the gate, it´s the only gate used in this part of the terminal right now, so no excuse to say these pax are bound for other flights. It looks like the A320 is the much more appropriate plane type today.
Bus boarding, down the stairs for the free apron tour.
And here it is, Niki´s Embraer 190
No, not that I especially like these under the wing shots, but it confirmed the reg from a nice perspective, isn´t it?
OE-IHF, "Salsa" is something new for my log, leg no. 9 on the E90.
Newly delivered to Niki at 15.03.2011 and one of 7 in the fleet
These silver fuselage looks like spotless clean
Hey, should I go sometimes on this machine?
The new style engines also looking sharp
7.20 pm, short after schedule, 18 degrees and partly cloudy. "Flyniki" is on the way from the 4000 meters 25C, 1 hour to VIE.
Legroom, well I´ve done flights with more of it.
Nevertheless the cabin is clean with the bright grey leather seats.
28 F, the last row window, the aisle is also taken and no recline here.
Load is 100%, no open seat to spot
A set of heavy clouds on the way
Cockpit crew is from Austria, the captain with detailed info´s inflight in a less stressed style.
The funny safety card
Cabin crew is three young, nice girls.
One of them with a ponytail super nice, at least to me.
She also walked through the cabin during boarding and offered every passenger personal the actual newspapers.
Miss airberlin, well, good choice here
The modern style cabin ceiling
No, this is not a doubledecker plane today!.
No meat for me with one part of the sandwich is cheese only, according to the nice FA ok so far, together with a full can of coke
Cruiselevel is 37000 feet, no route info.
Inbound for VIE
Touchdown on the 3600 meters 34, it´s 20.35 pm, perfectly ontime, some clouds only here in VIE. A nice welcome and 21 degrees.
Parked in front of the, well sooner or later to open new terminal wing

Also the Niki boarding pass shows the advertissement for the CAT City airport train. Good, but not for me.
3,60 Euro´s is the fare on the also frequently running local train to Wien-Mitte. The airport station is recently refurbished, ok so far. If there are not the, so it seems, usual train station subjects around, begging for money and puking behind the next corner.
It´s Friday evening, 9.30 pm and I decide to take a cab from Mitte to my accomodation, the Austria Trend Hotel Beim Theresianum. No rip off, ok so far with the taxistas in Vienna.
Welcome from the girl at the desk is less than average, no room change possible.
The lobby with the breakfast tables
Well designed room details
Wooden floor and flat screen TV
The garden with seaters
The not that really welcoming looking streetfront pictured the next morning
S. called me: "Are you on the way?".
"Sure, a cab is ordered to shuttle me to Wien-Meidling, the main train station during the renovation works at Wien-Mitte. It looks like closer on the map, but it seems that it´s to far to walk there.
Are you also prepared?.
"No question, Union delivers factory fresh a crate of Pivo. I will do it with Prsut and bread".
ÖBB´s "Emona" will take me across the alps.
6 hours, first class, 55.00 Euro´s, sure ok from my point of view
Here it is on arrivals
Comfy leather seaters and a full compartment for me
Let´s go, running above the UNESCO world heritage site, the Semmering-Pass, first to Graz
One of these typical Austrian style small cities along the way
Graz airport and tower, if anyone is interested to go there
Spielfeld-Strass is the last stop on Austrian soil and also the place to switch engines to the slovenian railway
Welcome to Slovenia, green fields and houses, is there much difference to Austria?
Yes, this is definitely Slovenia, Maribor
Riding down the valley bound for Ljubljana
A view from the last coach
The engine in Ljubljana
What´s better than local company?.
Our nice A.net colleague SloAir/Blaz decides to spend some time with me in the city and show me around, warm welcomed and thanx again, Blaz.
He picked me up at the station and soon we´re on the way.
The Franciscan Church close to the main place
The Preseren Square with at least two of the three bridges
Very nice historic buildings
The front of the Franciscan Church
Ljubljana en miniature
Bridge no. 3
Lots of people in the old town with the warm and nice weather
The covered market
Ljubljana feels a lot like Austria.
So and what´s this?
That´s the funicular up to the castle
I remember these guy with the city in the background, thanx to the photographer!
The market down there
The other side
The castle´s main place, looks good
Under the funiculare
Lets go down again
The funiculare en detail
More nice buildings in the old town
Thunderstorm clouds coming up, so time to walk through the old town streets for the car
Above the river
Blaz also decides to shuttle me to the airport, warm welcomed with the infrequent bus service, thanx again.

Service JP 124 operated by Adria Airways
Scheduled: 17.55 // 19.20
Welcome to my new departure airport.
The covered walkway between the terminal and the car park
This is the modern style terminal extension with the restaurant and terrace on top, where we spend some time chatting and viewing the planes
Apron view with Regional and Solinair
Odhodi´s, FRA on schedule from gate 1
In the terminal with some planes above
Time to wave goodbye now to Blaz and go airside, close to no time to wait at security.
Looks a bit oldfashioned here
JP on the apron
The lounge, sure the place to go for me now
Drink offers, bottled, warm welcomed
Something to eat here
No news for FRA from gate 1
The thunderstorm passed the airport while my plane is coming in
Here it is
Parked at the gate
JP and the different CRJ´s
This is S5-AAO, after a number of changes between the
CRJ subtypes during the last weeks, this is finally the CR9.
My last check shows the CR2 for my service, but OLCI done from the hotel the last evening, offers the CR9 seatmap
Leg no. 10 on type. A new registration, warm welcomed.
There are 4 CRJ900´s in the actual fleet and this is the newest example, delivered factory fresh at 26.01.2009
The fare is a bit steep, booked by Exp.de, 100.00 Euro´s, that´s my final personal limit, not that easy to catch JP oneway with lower prices.
The sky cleared up ontime, some mountains close to the airport in the background
A delay now, but nothing serious
Boarding now
Cabin crew is one young male and also one elder female, both ok, but nothing special.
6.25 pm, 30 minutes late, wet after thunderstorms is finally the time when "Adria" leaves for the 1 hour 20 minutes to FRA from the 3300 meters runway 31.
The terminal
Cockpit crew is from Slovenia, the captain with a very nice welcome during boarding and a delay apologize.
Just departed, interesting to follow that mountain scenery around
Low clouds from the earlier thunderstorms
Turning in northwestern direction
The safety card
Bright grey leather seats, clean cabin.
Legroom is good here, seat 21D, the second to last row window. Two for me, warm welcomed with a load around 90% and recline is possible
Adria´s magazine
The goodlooking cabin ceiling
The captain is once again on the mike with detailed informations short to approach for FRA.
We´re at maximum 34000 feet and routed above Klagenfurt and Salzburg.
The cheese "Sendvic" fits perfectly to my needs
Winglet view above the clouds
4000 meters runway 25L for me now. It´s 7.35 pm, 15 minutes late, 16 degrees and cloudy here in Germany. Well, that´s the usual summer weather these days.
Parked on the FRA apron
I like these small cargo doors
Bye now to Adria Airways
S. send me a text:
"No major delays, no strike or cancellations. Are you satisfied?".
"Well Mr.S., yes I am. Nice staff, sorry girls with Niki,
interesting equipment on Adria, super nice local company, an interesting city. Sure I am satisfied with these shorty trip to Slovenia".
Some minutes to wait for the shuttle and soon thereafter on the way back home.
Special thanx again to Blaz.
What about some relaxed weeks at home, food, drinks and TV the whole day around, sitting down my chair till it breaks apart, without any flights or else?.
Oh no, that´s not my life, just 4 days to go till a visit to the nordics.
The real Finncom is on schedule, together with the these days well covered 717 to the better end of Finland, like some guys from the north told me!.

I really have to admit that Niki E190 is a hot plane! Yes, the legroom could be better but otherwise it´s almost perfect looking. So, thanks for taking me there again

No problem, transportation to the airport is one thing to improve, they are talking about a rail link for a long time now.

Yes, unfortunately getting low prices on JP is almost a mission impossible. You were able to get from LJU to LGW for under 90 euros one-way, but they have cut that route in the winter schedule.

Wow, that looks great! Train rides in Central-Eastern and South-Eastern Europe are always a nice experience. Not only because of the landscapes but also because of the trains themselves. While the cars might sometimes be a tad old, they are most times still more comfortable than in Germany. Often, you also get a nice variety of different cars in just one train. For exapmle, on a Belgrade-Zagreb ride I took in September, there were Slovenian as well as Swiss cars.

good to see you got the E90 on HG, makes a welcome change.
Some more to come on the trains, you know and sure the E90 was warm welcomed here.
Quoting infodesk (Reply 16):
Markus, that is the joke of the year
Theory and real life, you know!.
Quoting infodesk (Reply 16):
The magazine could do with replacing, it looks like it's falling apart.
Quoting volvair (Reply 17):
I always get hungry when I see a picture of those Niki Sandwiches, It is great of them to serve such quantities on short routes.
Good point, sure above average with the other carriers around.
Quoting volvair (Reply 17):
Wow, that looks great! Train rides in Central-Eastern and South-Eastern Europe are always a nice experience. Not only because of the landscapes but also because of the trains themselves. While the cars might sometimes be a tad old, they are most times still more comfortable than in Germany. Often, you also get a nice variety of different cars in just one train. For exapmle, on a Belgrade-Zagreb ride I took in September, there were Slovenian as well as Swiss cars.
Good to know, always something interesting for me.
@R.:
Quoting Quokka (Reply 18): Another great trip report and one that brings back fond (and funny) memories.
Thank you, good to know.
Quoting Quokka (Reply 18):
Ouch, that legroom looks tight on Niki.
Sure not the most comfortable place here.
Quoting Quokka (Reply 18): The similarity is noticeable when you travel from coastal Croatia and through Slovenia on the way to Austria.
Good point, so I ´am not the only one with this impression.
Quoting Quokka (Reply 18):
That is the only place that I have ever been given a receipt, showing VAT paid, for going to the WC!
Sounds like a joke!.
Quoting Quokka (Reply 18): Nice photos of Ljubljana and the castle. I never made it up there on my visit as it appeared to be undergoing restoration. The results look pleasing.
Sure a place to visit, really nice.
Quoting Quokka (Reply 18):
Cute. The cabin service would have left a lot to be desired though.
Hah, something to explore soon!.
Quoting Quokka (Reply 18): The Adria flight looked comfortable enough, but in the photos the aircraft looks positively dwarfed by the jetbridge.
No chance for a better picture from the gate.

Thanks for the story! LJU looks like a place worth of visit and Adria seems to be a good choice to go there! Nice with a A-net meeting!
Quoting parton87 (Reply 19):
It seems to be the most common one! I have never landed on any other runway
Yes, me, too.
Quoting parton87 (Reply 19):
Looks nice, what did you pay for it?
73.00 Euro´s, ok so far from my point of view.
Quoting parton87 (Reply 19):
I agree! Strange that Bombardier put it on the right side instead of the more common left side!
Super strange, isn´t it?.
Quoting parton87 (Reply 19):
Nice that you took the train instead of plane between VIE and LJU! Not what you expect of you but the views looks amazing and price seems good too.
BTW, how far is it between STR and FRA?
Something what I want to do since a longer time.
STR-FRA by ICE city to city a bit more than an hour, by plane 25 minutes, by car, 1 hour 30 minutes, if nothing goes wrong!.

Hi Markus,
Finally I got to know how you spent a great time with Blaž in Ljubljana. What a great story with many beautiful pictures. I should visit Ljubljana sometime.
Quoting FLIEGER67 (Thread starter): The guy at the counter recognized me, same with the shuttle bus driver. It seems, that I´am often here.
How about the fly being the figurant of demonstrations on the safety card?
Quoting FLIEGER67 (Thread starter): She also walked through the cabin during boarding and offered every passenger personal the actual newspapers.
Miss airberlin, well, good choice here
Could the NIKI girl happen to be that Miss AirBerlin?
Quoting FLIEGER67 (Reply 1): the Austria Trend Hotel Beim Theresianum.
Did you consult TripAdvisor before?
Quoting FLIEGER67 (Reply 1): the UNESCO world heritage site, the Semmering-Pass
Good to know.
Quoting FLIEGER67 (Reply 1): I remember these guy with the city in the background, thanx to the photographer!
Me too and I remember the photographer as well!
Quoting FLIEGER67 (Reply 2): In the terminal with some planes above
LJU’s eye-catcher.
Quoting FLIEGER67 (Reply 2): There are 4 CRJ900´s in the actual fleet
Congratulations on catching a new registration of limited JP fleet!
Thanks for sharing. Once again I like the split up.

Good price for a long trip in 1st. Was there any refreshment on board? With our fragmented railway network currently, some 1st class trains offer complimentary food / drinks / lounge, others don't. It seems to be pot luck.
Quoting FLIEGER67 (Reply 1): Ljubljana feels a lot like Austria.
It does look like a fantastic city to visit, it has moved higher up my must-see list!
Quoting FLIEGER67 (Reply 2): Apron view with Regional and Solinair
Good location for a restaurant / cafe, shame about the few movements to see. And with Adria cutting their service to London, just Easyjet left serving us.
Quoting FLIEGER67 (Reply 2): The real Finncom is on schedule, together with the these days well covered 717 to the better end of Finland, like some guys from the north told me!.
Sounds like a good one. When will your next trip without an A.net mini-meet happen? Always good to meet like-minded people!
