Hi, this must be my second trip report and I still have not figure out how to upload photo - call me stupid!
Anyway, took the flight from CX 807, on October 20, from Chicago to Hong kong, and then to Taipei.
For those who do not know, CX opened up thie flight in September of this year. And already, this was my second time flying on the same route. My flight originated from Atlanta, where I took a CRJ flight out to Chicago. Nothing usual, just the flight was bumpy, and the plane was quite old, interrior wise. This is in stark contrast to my inbound flight from Chicago to Atlanta where the plane really smells new!
Had a lot of time (more than 3 hours) to transfer to Terminal 5 and I was sitting there waiting for the check-in on CX to open when I observed the line of passengers already waiting for check-in. Upon checking, I was handled by a agent who seems so new that he was not only slow but keep asking questions that I already answered. Sure enough, I later found out that he had misplaced my HK to TPE boarding pass with my fellow colleagues and that was not it; he forgot to tag one of my two pieces of check-in luggage as priority, costing me extra 30 minutes of wait at Taipei airport when picking it up.
This flight was full of poor performance of Cathay ground crew. It seems that they have people in red uniform overlooking their ground crew but neither was able to supervise things properly and many mistakes was made. I was stopped by a ground crew, who told me that as Marcopolo Gold Member, I was not allowed to pre-board. I told her does she knows the rule and she answered, "the rule is made here to be like that!" Wow, I then asked the manager in charge who was in black uniform, instead of apologizing for this, she just told me she will talk to her in time without even taking down who the agent was! That was about the last thing that as a fellow passenger you would like to hear, adding unnecessary stress to me, which I later filed an offical complaint on her. We will see what CX will respond.
Cathay is a great airline. The flight crew upon my verbal complaint, did everything they could, to make my journey as comfortable as it can be. I even got swrap out with another passenger so that I get the three seat in a row to be able to lie down and have some good number of sleep. Really appreciate that in addition to serve me my meal as a priority.
Anyway, sparking new B777-300ER, with new business class seat. They look wonderful as compared with the past version where we all feel like canned fish. The flight took up and took the polar route which is very interesting. We did not do that on our inbound flight probably due to jet stream. This time, we really flew over to Wisconsin/Minnesota, entering Canadian airspace heading furhter north, crossing into Russian airspare, flew by the tip of Mongolia, close to Beijing and then pretty travel south into Hong Kong on Chinese airspare. Overall, it was a smooth flight. It seems on my last trip over this Polar route, it is smoother than the Pacific crossing where jetstream outside of Japan can be very strong and bumpy.
It is 15 hours and the service of CX on Y was good and excellent. AVOD works fine and keep me entertained. Toliets were clean and pleasant (I always smells something bad on EVA AIR B777-300ER toilet, I do not quite understand why? Plumbing problem??) For those who had not travelled on this, I strongly recommend taking CX. Plane is new, crew is nice and flown by a safety conscious crew. Although I had some unpleasant ground crew experience, I still rated this flight highly. Not sure why from HK to TPE part, I was being upgraded to Business class where I can clearly see empty seat in the economy!
