Excellence is not taught, it’s within you…
The world is changing so fast that you can’t have a break, pax want the best, miles, service, fare, IFE and so on.
Hence the top carriers had to listen their customer in order to keep them.
Competition is a fabulous word, as least, it helps companies or human being trying to be the best. In one on my jobs (IT industry) we need to have two tree steps ahead. Steve Jobs was a master, the king, the best. If you don’t follow or stick to the plan, you will lose your job and your companies will go down or go bust as well as shareholders (though they re not welcome here) Joke off.
With airlines it’s the same deal.
Out of my tree legs in F, it was full each time. I do find a reason here, BA give a good fares (sales very often), CX and SQ have the best in flight product in the market.
When I read CEOs of some carriers saying, carriers form Middle East or Asian do not play fair. It’s funny to me, while they are complaining about the issue, EK, QR, SQ fill the gap and take their pax off their hands. Not too hard. Some carriers are very pro to be on stike twice a years, some have a freaky service in flight and on the ground, crew, the FFP counts too. Maybe one day they will realize what globalisation means. By the time I fear for them it’s gonna over.
Before starting this report, I’d like to say to Singaporean, feel proud about your country, your carrier and so on. I keep an eye to Singapore to set up my own business there.
As a French, as far as I can recall I always hated my own country for many reasons. And so far I was right. When I landed in SFO, got a sms to tell me my flight has been cancelled. For one second I thought, Thomas keep cool, go the trip back to france with SQ, via HKG and SIN… The desire was there, but It wouldn’t be reasonable.
Back to the trip
Check in 5 hours before departure, had to work in the lounge, they opened the counter for me. Agent was so nice, chit chat about SQ, HK. Boarding pass in hand, I made my way to the lounge.
Lounges : When I required to take a shower and wc, I was stunned to hear, none of them were within the lounge ! I thought it was a joke.. Otherwise, the lounge is huge, loved the catering. I then went to the UA F lounge.
Boarding : I had to buy some items from the duty free. I left the lounge early and met the crew. Outstanding as always ! Greeted by the purser, Mr Miles addict welcome home for the next 12 hours, may I show you your seat, then The FA in charge of the F cabin came by, introduced herself, gave me her name in case. I do love the way they deal with pax, the best way, they are always smiling, willing to provide the best, easy to talk with, the SQ elegance… Class… Perfection..
Crew : I don’t want to drag it on, this year alone I flew 148 times. 30% are long haul in F or J and 70% short and medium haul in Y. I have never encountered such a level of everything, you really need to live the dream of flying SQ to acknowledge they are the best. There is SQ crew and the others in the world. The gap is huge !
Seat : Wide, the widest, the most comfortable in the market. I do love the J cabin as well. 1-2-1 in business while some carriers remains at 2-3-2… I slept 8 hours… Oh my godness it’s so goooooood !
To conclude, SQ is and will remain the best, they did not fail to their reputation, no word is strong enough to describe the whole experience. SQ I’ll see you next year for my flight in Suite ! Or before if my addiction takes over….

The food and the table set up all looks much better than BA. (and they serve William Fevre premier cru even if it is the 2007 which at least to me is a bit young)

Thank you for sharing your wonderful experience with SQ!
I have flown this route (SQ2) myself, and although it was only in Economy class, I thoroughly enjoyed it.
Hope you that you did have a chance to stay over and enjoy San Francisco after your trip.

Hey Thomas, nice report!
Looks like you had a great flight on SQ First, food looks great as well! How many BD miles did you get for this flight, enough to re-qualify you for another year of Gold?
Thanks for sharing

I won't stop complaining until SAS reintroduces free service in Economy Class!

Thanks for sharing. This flight brings back some memories, albeit on the shorter leg. I did SQ2 SIN-HKG two years ago. My first and only trip in F so far. Even on that short 4hr flight they had the full meal service. Was nice.
It was the only time I had a flight with a female Inflight Supervisor, the FA clad in the purple Sarong Kebaya. On my other SQ flights, I had only seen male FAs in the rank. Seems like 40% of SQ's FAs are male these days which might seem odd since they brand themselves on the "Singapore Girl". Anyhow the female IFS on that flight told me a whole bunch of them were just promoted into that rank. So you probably will see more purple Kebayas, not just the blue, green and red ones.

Hi Thomas
Thanks for sharing this report with us! I enjoyed reading it. I like the colors SQ uses in their F-class cabin. It's much more elegant then EK, QR,... but still does not beat BA IMO

Yep, I got again, but for how long ? I've heard BMI is about to be sold to.......... BA... I'm near 250 000 miles, if BA merge both account, It will top up my BA miles.
