Welcome to my latest trip report covering my one month of travelling. I had just landed from my LH A380 experience which can be seen here :

LH--DUB-MIA Business Class On The A380+Tech Issues (by OA260 Jan 19 2012 in Trip Reports)

I had said goodbye to Gareth but before I did I decided to take a look at his hotel which was at MIA Airport.
Some pics here :

http://i955.photobucket.com/albums/ae40/PhilipOA260/AA757/file-1722.jpg

The friendly check in agent tagged my bags with Priority labels and then it was time to head to
security.

http://i955.photobucket.com/albums/ae40/PhilipOA260/AA757/file-3.jpg

The lines were not too long and before I knew it I was airside.

http://i955.photobucket.com/albums/ae40/PhilipOA260/AA757/file-13.jpg

I decided to head to the AA Admirals lounge which was accessed via a train.

Some nice views along the way :

http://i955.photobucket.com/albums/ae40/PhilipOA260/AA757/file-21.jpg

I was welcomed into the lounge and given one drink cert ! Thats the thing I hate about American
lounges the rationing of drink certs.

http://i955.photobucket.com/albums/ae40/PhilipOA260/AA757/file-31.jpg

The lounge itself was pleasant . Limited food offerings , well basically none to mention. There was a shop
come deli where you could buy food. Again not my idea of a lounge. Wifi was free to AA Advantage members
but it seemed not for Oneworld guests . When you logged in there was a whole sign up process even if
you did have AA status. If there was a way for others to gain access it was hidden . In the end I bought
a few hours with my Visa card via T Mobile. I wish AA would just give you a password when you enter the
lounge. It would make life easier for those not AA members.

http://i955.photobucket.com/albums/ae40/PhilipOA260/AA757/file-36.jpg

Soon it was time to make my way to the gate for boarding :

http://i955.photobucket.com/albums/ae40/PhilipOA260/AA757/file-1077.jpg

Soon boarding was commenced and Business Class and Status members were invited to board first.

http://i955.photobucket.com/albums/ae40/PhilipOA260/AA757/file-37.jpg

I was greeted at the door by a very friendly FA and made my way to my seat snapping some pics while
the aircraft was not full.

Soon the FA handed out pre take off drinks :

http://i955.photobucket.com/albums/ae40/PhilipOA260/AA757/file-64.jpg

Soon the safety demo commenced and we pushed back :

http://i955.photobucket.com/albums/ae40/PhilipOA260/AA757/file-65.jpg

http://i955.photobucket.com/albums/ae40/PhilipOA260/AA757/file-66.jpg

http://i955.photobucket.com/albums/ae40/PhilipOA260/AA757/file-67.jpg

http://i955.photobucket.com/albums/ae40/PhilipOA260/AA757/file-68.jpg

Then it was time to take off with some nice views over Miami as we climbed :

http://i955.photobucket.com/albums/ae40/PhilipOA260/AA757/file-69.jpg

http://i955.photobucket.com/albums/ae40/PhilipOA260/AA757/file-70.jpg

http://i955.photobucket.com/albums/ae40/PhilipOA260/AA757/file-71.jpg

Shortly after the IFE started and the crew were released for their duties :

http://i955.photobucket.com/albums/ae40/PhilipOA260/AA757/file-72.jpg

Pre Dinner drinks and nuts were handed out :

http://i955.photobucket.com/albums/ae40/PhilipOA260/AA757/file-73.jpg

The FA came to me and said ''Will you be dining with us tonight Sir ? '' I said yes please . I wondered what
I was going to get . I didnt have much hope that it would be anything substantial and then to my surprise I
was handed this . I really was surprised.

http://i955.photobucket.com/albums/ae40/PhilipOA260/AA757/file-74.jpg

http://i955.photobucket.com/albums/ae40/PhilipOA260/AA757/file-75.jpg

The meal was lovely . I was offered choices of Wines or Champagne but declined. Service was offered with
a smile and I really was impressed.

http://i955.photobucket.com/albums/ae40/PhilipOA260/AA757/file-76.jpg

The flight went quickly and soon it was time to land. The guy next to me was a young student who was
celebrating his birthday , his parents were in the row in front . The FA came and wished him a Happy Birthday
and gave him a bottle of Champagne. I thought this was a nice touch and the guy was really pleased.

We then began our decent into SJU :

http://i955.photobucket.com/albums/ae40/PhilipOA260/AA757/file-78.jpg

http://i955.photobucket.com/albums/ae40/PhilipOA260/AA757/file-80.jpg

Despite heavy rain we had a smooth landing and we were on stand in a few mintues.

http://i955.photobucket.com/albums/ae40/PhilipOA260/AA757/file-81.jpg

Gotta love those winglets :

http://i955.photobucket.com/albums/ae40/PhilipOA260/AA757/file-82.jpg

One last look at my seat before thanking the crew for a lovely flight and making my way to the
baggage reclaim.

http://i955.photobucket.com/albums/ae40/PhilipOA260/AA757/file-83.jpg

http://i955.photobucket.com/albums/ae40/PhilipOA260/AA757/file-290.jpg

My bag came off the belt in the middle of the others. No real priority here .

http://i955.photobucket.com/albums/ae40/PhilipOA260/AA757/file-2355.jpg

I showed my tag receipts to the inspectors then made my way out into arrivals and then to the Airport
hotel which was right next to the terminal.

http://i955.photobucket.com/albums/ae40/PhilipOA260/AA757/file-84.jpg

http://i955.photobucket.com/albums/ae40/PhilipOA260/AA757/file-85.jpg

I was greeted by a friendly receptionist and then headed to my room. I was exhausted so went to bed .

http://i955.photobucket.com/albums/ae40/PhilipOA260/AA757/file-86.jpg

I woke up the next morning and got some nice views :

http://i955.photobucket.com/albums/ae40/PhilipOA260/AA757/file-87.jpg

http://i955.photobucket.com/albums/ae40/PhilipOA260/AA757/file-90.jpg

http://i955.photobucket.com/albums/ae40/PhilipOA260/AA757/file-94.jpg

Then a look at the terrace :

http://i955.photobucket.com/albums/ae40/PhilipOA260/AA757/file-93.jpg

http://i955.photobucket.com/albums/ae40/PhilipOA260/AA757/file-92.jpg

Soon it was time to check out and get a taxi to the cruise port :

http://i955.photobucket.com/albums/ae40/PhilipOA260/AA757/file-95.jpg

http://i955.photobucket.com/albums/ae40/PhilipOA260/AA757/file-96.jpg

My beloved Celebrity Summit :

http://i955.photobucket.com/albums/ae40/PhilipOA260/AA757/file-97.jpg

Soon after a while check in opened. I have Elite status with Celebrity so I was checked in and onboard in
no time.

The day passed quickly and we left port . That night I unpacked and relaxed before heading to the Sushi bar
for Dinner .

http://i955.photobucket.com/albums/ae40/PhilipOA260/AA757/file-2231.jpg

The next day was a sea day and I decided to get up and go to the breakfast buffet and dine Alfresco.

Later around 11am time for another snack

The rest of the day I relaxed by the pool and got some sun. I had an early night that evening as the next
day was Barbados .

The weather was not great when we arrived and soon the tropical rains arrived .

View to the Hilton resort .

The weather didnt put me off so I got my things and discembarked. I have been to Barbados many times
so I skipped the tourist traps and decided to get the public bus to BGI .

Is it really 4G ?

http://i955.photobucket.com/albums/ae40/PhilipOA260/AA757/file-1616.jpg

So I arrived at the bus stop and bought my ticket. Not many tourists around here .

Around 40 minutes later we arrived at BGI. The bus was all Bajans or Barbadians ( Posh ones ) as a lady
on the bus told me   Was interesting to mix with the locals and see some nice and some not so nice villages.
People were looking at me but I didnt feel uneasy .

First impressions of BGI were that it has got quite run down looking. I had not been there for a number
of years but its looking tired and alot of the digital flight boards in the center of the Terminal were broken.
Anyone know if they are going to renovate the terminal?

The Concorde Museum was sadly closed on the day I was in Barbados but still I took a short walk round
to take a look.

A quick hop to GEO is possible but not for me today .

http://i955.photobucket.com/albums/ae40/PhilipOA260/AA757/file-1832.jpg

The airport had free wifi so I took the chance to log into Skype on my iPhone and call the family and check
my emails.

After a while it was time to get the bus back to town. The buses here run when they want to and finally after
around an hour it arrived. The locals were good entertainment at the bus stop all moaning about life and the
bus company. Whilst I was waiting a guy pulled up and offered me a lift. I politely declined although he was
a businessman type you just never know so best to be safe and take the bus.

http://i955.photobucket.com/albums/ae40/PhilipOA260/AA757/file-826.jpg

Time to board the ship but before I did I purchased some duty free items in the cruise terminal. A
Girl behind the counter was excited about my iPhone . She said ''Is that the 4?'' I said ''no its the 4S''.
She called over her boss and they were looking at it . I guess these things are not readily available here .

So thats the end of this report. More Caribbean adventures to follow

Thanks for reading and please do comment I appreciate them all.

American Airlines were great and I would certainly choose them again in future. They provided a great
onboard experience from the FA's to the meal. The only issues were the lounge offerings and non priority
bags but it didnt spoil the over all experience.

Hi Phil,

Very nice report about your cruise
The AA flight looked really fine for the length of the sector.
Also it seems as the 757 was refurbished.
The meal also looked very tasty !
Also thanks for the pictures of the cruise.
Looking forward to the next part.

Thanks a lot for sharing.

Cheers

A nice report as usual. Looks like you had a pretty nice flight with AA, and a nice beginning of your cruise!

Hi Suryo,

The hotel was the Miami International Airport Hotel. It's built into the terminal so is really handy as you don't have to mess about with shuttle buses. It is slightly overpriced but convenience won out this time as I had an early flight back the following morning.

Did not realise that AA was refurbishing their 757s as well. They where in a bad need for a refurbishment!
We seem to have a similar opinion about AA. I believe they are on a good path now and we could be surpised about what we could see in the future!

Cruise trip looks great as well! Good to read on a raining and freezing day

Thanks for the nice report Phil. I sailed the Summit about 18 months ago and it looks like they may have cleaned it a bit. I was oddly disappointed with it for a Bermuda 7 day trip but it looks a bit better in your pictures than I remember. I had a Concierge 9th Floor balcony but it was majorily rusty with curtains that had wholes and a shower that flooded!

Anyway, glad you had a good trip and the ship worked for you.

Thats terrible . I have to say the rails and other things were showing their age but they must have cleaned it since your trip as I couldnt fault anything to be honest. My stateroom was spotless. I think Sumitt is going to dry dock soon to be updated ? What you experienced doesnt sound good , did you complain and get compensated?

I was impressed by the widespread use of the Barbadian flag in BGI and elsewhere. I mean, it's a very pretty flag, but they went a bit over the top.

Loved the photos of/from the cruise ship. By the way did you have any time to explore MIA or have you done so in the past?

Looks like you had a good flight with AA in J down to San Juan. I really like flying AA; I've never had any problems, and I find their domestic F/short haul J to be very nice.

Looks like you had a good time on the cruise! Thanks for sharing your photos.

BGI terminal was renovated and improved about 5 years ago. The terminal IMHO is not run down looking and actually is quite beautiful, I like the open concept and the heavy use of natural light.

The iphone4s is available in BGI it was launched recently but as you saw mobile carriers have only recently upgraded to "4g". Blackberry is the preferred phone in BGI but that is changing.

Barbados' independence day is Nov 30th so for the entire month of November buildings are decorated in national colors.

Great report. Nice to see you got on one of the refurbed 752s. MIA is terrible making sure priority tagged bags get out first.

As an FYI for future trips on AA, the Admirals Clubs do offer complimentary alcoholic beverages consisting of beer and standard spirits (straight or mixed). The coupon is for "premium" alcoholic beverages or bottled water. I must agree the food offerings are terrible. Some veggies and "dog food" mix is pretty meager. The Admirals Clubs are also transitioning to free wifi. Just look for the SSID attwifi. As a oneworld elite, you can ask for a wifi access card at clubs that have not been upgraded.

Hi Philip,

Interesting story on the AA 757. I think they look quite good in the AA livery. But then again: doesn’t every 757 look good in any livery?
Did you experience the ‘rocket’ like takeoff

I was welcomed into the lounge and given one drink cert ! Thats the thing I hate about American
lounges the rationing of drink certs.

So does that mean you are entitled to only a limited amount of (alcoholic) drinks?

Quoting OA260 (Thread starter):
One last look at my seat

They look like ‘enhanced’ Y seats or are they ‘real’ C class seats?

Quoting OA260 (Thread starter):
Then a look at the terrace

Looks like a prison more than a relaxing terrace area.

I was impressed by the widespread use of the Barbadian flag in BGI and elsewhere. I mean, it's a very pretty flag, but they went a bit over the top.

Different countries seam to have different ideas on when and where to fly their flag.

In the States it seams that most large buildings and many private homes fly the stars and stripes.

In England the St Georges cross seams just to be linked to football. Very view people fly it at home but many people have some sort of St Georges cross on their car or more frequently van (truck). The Union Jack is flown on government buildings but again not really from private homes.

In France you will see the French flag, a regional flag and the eu flag flying in most town centres, but again its not common to fly it from a private home. And unlike England people don't often have a flag on their cars.

Alex
