I took this trip during April Vacation. This is also my first trip report.

April 11, 2002
DL431 PVD-ATL
MD-88 N972DA (Newest Colors)

My family and I arrived at PVD at 4:45AM for our 6:30AM flight. We were expecting to wait at least an hour to check-in and go through security, but we were wrong. We waited only 10 minutes at the Delta ticket counter and only 5 minutes for security. The guy at the check point inspected my watch, but that was it. Well anyway, we proceeded down to Gate 18 where N972DA was parked. We still had 1 hour and 15 minutes until our flight, so I went with my mom, down the concourse to pick something up at Dunkin' Doughnuts (PVD has many shops but Dunkin' Doughnuts was the only one open that time of morning). I did a little spotting, saw the usuals: United 752, Northwest 319, American MD-80, 3 Southwest 737's (can't tell the difference between the -300 and the NG's!), Air Ontario Dash-8, and a United Express CRJ . Then I went back to join my family, which was sitting in the Southwest gate area, watching the TV's. My flight's boarding commenced and I took seat 26E (gotta have my window seat Big grin). The flight was completely full. We pushed back 2 minutes early and started our taxi. When we got to the runway, we had to wait about 10 minutes due to traffic in ATL, an Airborne Express DC-9-30 landed ahead of us. We had a normal take-off run and climbout, the seatbelt signs were turned off and the beverage service began. We were served a drink and two tiny little biscuits, which tasted pretty good. The rest of the flight was pretty uneventful until our approach into ATL. We were first put into a holding pattern for about 10 minutes and then we started our decent through the clouds into a rainy Atlanta. We had a couple of minor bumps as we were flying through the clouds, but nothing notable, then when we broke out of the clouds we were already on final approach, we had a normal touchdown with minimal reverse thrust. This was my first time in ATL and I was surprised at how busy the ramps and runways were!

Boeing 767-300 N143DA (Mid 90's Colors)

My family and I made an easy transfer from the B Concourse to the T Concourse in the underground train system (very convenient!) and to N143DA at Gate T2. This was also my first 767 flight, man was I in for a pleasant surprise! We boarded and I took seat 35A, I looked around and noticed how nice and spacious the 763's cabin was. We pushed back and taxied past rows upon rows of Delta planes (although I did get to see one South African Airways 744!), until we reached the runway, where we were 7th in line for takeoff. Now I was expecting a long takeoff run since the 767 is a pretty big plane, but the takeoff was surprisingly powerful, we only took up about 6,500 feet of runway! The climbout was again, slightly bumpy, but no big deal. The service on this flight consisted of a beverage and a snack mix with pretzels, and little things that looked like Cheetos, it was actually pretty good. They also showed Delta Horizons, I watched some of it, but not much. Our decent gave great views of the Tampa Bay area, but it was quick. We touched down smoothly and used minimal reverse thrust. We rode the manorial thing to the main terminal, got our luggage, got our car and than began our 6 day vacation!

DL1092 TPA-ATL
Boeing 767-400ER N836MH (Newest colours)

We arrived at TPA at 5:15PM for our 7:00PM flight. We waited about 15 minutes to check in. We hopped on the monorial to Airside C and there were no lines for security, I got randomly selected and the security guy who was actually very friendly, wanded me and checked my shoes. Then we proceeded to Gate C39 where the beautiful new 764 was sitting. My dad and I decided we would try and go find something to eat, but let me tell you, Airside C has NOTHING! The only place to get some food was a tiny hot dog stand, there were no places to get a magazine either, just restrooms and gates, there weren't even any vending machines! (I have been told other Airsides in TPA have their own food court!). I was disappointed, but soon enough, they boarded our flight. I was in seat 35A, I was also very impressed by the cabin of the new 764, the seats were actually pretty comfortable. We pushed back and taxied to the runway where we took off immediately. We once again had an impressively powerful takeoff and climbout. We had a beverage service with a drink and a bag of pretzels, which were good. I kept on thinking "I wish we could fly on this beautiful airplane all the way back to PVD" but all to soon, we descended into ATL and had a nice firm landing.

DL468 ATL-PVD
MD-88 N991DL

We once again had a very easy commute from the T Concourse to the B Concourse and Gate B15. We were all very tired by now so we just sat and waited for our flight to be called. We boarded and I took seat 18E. We pushed back and being the only airplane out there, had a quick taxi to the runway. Now the takeoff run was VERY long for and MD-88, I think the pilot only used partial power. This flight was probably the worst I've had in a while, not because of the plane, not because of the crew, because I was sick. I was extremely dizzy from a cold I had, and my stomach was upset from the pasta I had eaten for lunch. I had a drink, but I saved the snack mix for later. The flight was uneventful until we touched down in PVD. I felt better once we landed. We got off, and we had to wait a while for our luggage, but we got it and went home

Overall, I would say, thank you Delta, for some great flights and providing me and my family with great service!

Let me tell you, the TPA airside concourse where WN is located (I don't remember the letter designation) also is pretty wretched when it comes to food. There's a combined Pizza Hut and Nathan's Hot Dogs, which employs The World's Slowest Counter Workers. You can practically die of old age* waiting to get served!
* = considering all the elderly people living in the TPA area and using the airport, this probably has happened  Smokin cool

Good report. Airsides A and F have their own food court areas. Airsides C and D would require an extension of the upper level to have a food court of the magnitude of A and F. If you would have taken the trip during the fall of this year, Airside E would have opened and they would have their own food court area as well.

Southwest's NGs have red paint on the underside of the wings. Here is an example:

Very nice report, man oh man, being sick on a plane thats the worst. One time when i flew SFO-JFK i felt so sick i drank about 15 glasses of water the whole flight and i couldn't eat anything and trust me, i NEVER pass up food. Glad you enjoyed yourself, did you catch a Rays game while you were down there?
