Hello everyone and welcome to my 2nd report!
This report will cover a little day trip I made on Saturday the 10th of March. Upon looking on the internet I decided to take Lufthansa to Brussels: AMS-FRA-BRU-FRA-AMS. Today’s map:
An early flight means getting out of bed early. I had trouble sleeping at after finally falling in sleep 2 hours later it was already time to wake up at 04:30. A quick shower and off it was to Amsterdam Lelylaan train station. I took the 05:17 train which got me to Schiphol at 05:20. I had already checked in online the night before so it was off to the self service kiosks to print my BPs. Today it was check-in area 8:
After printing my 4 BPs it was off to security. Security wasn’t all that busy so I was through in a couple of minutes. After walking around through the terminal looking around in different shops, as there wasn’t much to spot, I decided to proceed to my gate and wait there. Today’s gate is B15. Departure FIDS:
Around 06:50 boarding commenced. I was one of the last ones to board. Upon boarding I was nicely greeted by our purser and a flight attendant. I was very impressed with the cabin, It felt so fresh and was absolutely spotless. It was also fitted with their “new” seats. Soon pushback started right on time. This flight was very empty, I would say about 25% full! The back was almost completely empty. I had a guy sitting in the aisle with the seat between us remaining empty. A short taxi to the “Aalsmeerbaan”, also known as 18L, followed by a nice and powerful take off and we we’re above the clouds in no time:
Leg room shot:
Safety card for the Lufthansa A320s:
Lufthansa March 2012 Magazin:
Spring/Summer 2012 Catalogue:
The crew consisted of 1 male purser and 3 female flight attendants. Once the fasten seatbelt sign switched off they jumped into action. I was amazed at how fast they served everyone their snack and drink. It was very efficiently done! On this sector I got a “chocolate bread” with an OJ and to finish it off a cup of coffee with milk:
The nice looking cabin:
We then already started our descent into Frankfurt :
Through the clouds and into our final approach:
And touchdown! I believe this was on the “new” runway:
We then taxied to our remote stand, passed the fire station:
Our neighbor, I was soon too discover that I could’ve just walked over to this aircraft if that was possible:
We parked at the remote stand around 08:30 which meant that I had 15 minutes to get to my next flight to Brussels as there was a 08:45 boarding time. So we deplaned and went to the bus that was waiting for us:
It wasn’t that long of a drive in the bus and after 5 minutes we reached the terminal. I then hurried to the A gates. After taking a lot of stairs down, proceeding through a long pedestrian tunnel and taking a lot of stairs up again I reached the A-gates:
Gate for now is A23 and when I arrived boarding had just commenced:
After the boarding pass check, it was down to a bus which was waiting for us. A nice little bus ride brought us straight to our remote stand which was next to the plane that I had just come in on, I boarded via the back side this time:
I was then kindly greeted by 2 flight attendants and proceeded to my seat 22A. Again a very nice fresh and spotless cabin! This flight was also very empty, I would say about 25% full:
The plane I had just come in on:
We then taxied straight to the runway passing a lot of aircraft on their remote stands on our way:
A nice bunch of heavies:
We then started our nice and powerfull take off:
I had the whole row to myself which was very nice. Legroom shot:
The nice looking seats and seatback:
The crew on this sector consisted of 1 male purser and 3 female flight attendants. Once the seatbelt sign turned off they sprung into action. Again I was amazed at how efficient and quick they served everyone. Once everyone got there drink that even stopped by asking for refills, very nice! Snack on this sector was a nice corn/cream bar, with that I got an OJ:
The cabin:
We then quickly started to descend into Brussels Zaventem airport:
Straight through the clouds and into final approach:
And touchdown!:
During taxi to the gate we passed a lot of nice aircraft/airlines:
Parked at gate A47:
As I had about three hours to kill I decided to go landside for a while. Baggage claim:
Outside arrivals:
Then went up the stairs to the departure hall. SN Brussels check-in area:
Check-in area 9-12:
So you wake up at the middle of the night to get to Brussels airport around 03:00 only to find out that your flight to Djerba is delayed from 05:55 till 21:00. If you look closely you can see that on the departure FIDS:
Outside departures area:
I then decided to go back airside to Terminal A. Again through a long pedestrian walkway and after that straight through security which didn’t take that long:
The nice looking terminal:
Did about an hour of spotting before going on to the Pizza hut to get a quick bite to eat:
As boarding time was coming close I went to my gate, gate A45:
Boarding started at 13:30 and was nice and quick. Upon entering the plane I was nicely greeted by the purser and a flight attendant. Again the cabin was fresh and very nice! This time the flight was a bit more full as the previous 2 I would say about 35% full. Proceeded to my seat 23F. This was our neighbour:
We pushed back on time and taxied to the active:
Again a nice and powerful take-off and straight through the clouds we went:
The safety card for Lufthansa A319s:
The flight crew consisted of 1 male purser and 2 female flight attendants. And once again once the seatbelt sign was switched off they sprung into action handing out a snack and I once again got an OJ with it:
The cabin:
Legroom shot:
And once again we quickly started descending through the clouds:
And into final approach into once again the “new” runway:
And touchdown!:
We then taxied to a gate this time, gate A28. Hello there!:
A British Airways World Cargo 747-800 at the cargo apron, later that night a second one arrived also:
After deboarding this big whale passed by:
As I had about 5 hours to spare I decided to go landside and take a look around terminal 2 via the Sky Line:
Baggage claim area:
There wasn’t much there so decided to go airside again. Went to the end of part of the A-gates and spent about 3.5 hours there and did a lot of spotting. Very nice to see all the heavies coming in from all over the world one after the other. I also saw a bunch of fire trucks waiting near the runway with their sirens on. After 5 minutes a Lufthansa 747 landed and they followed it from the runway all the way to the gate. Not sure what was going on or what was wrong? After the nice spotting session I went over to terminal 2 again to have a bite to eat at this Mexican place opposite of the McDonalds. Too bad that it was closed already so I stuck with the Mcdonalds then. The wrap really wasn’t that good:
As I was getting very tired and feeling the only 2 hours of sleep I had the previous night I went to my gate, gate B12, and decided to wait there till boarding started. The gate area (B11,B12,B13) was quite busy. At the bar there was a group watching FC Augsburg – Borussia Dortmund and enjoying a beer and at the seating area there were quite a lot of groups of Americans staying there, some sleeping. Guess they are gonna spend the night at the airport to catch the early morning flights back to America. Boarding started at 20:35 and for the third time today I took the bus to our remote stand. Man I just love driving past and between all those heavies with the bus on our way to our remote stand, can’t get enough of that! Just love Frankfurt! So for the third time today I touched the tarmac at Frankfurt:
2 Lufthansa A380s at the gates together with some more Lufthansa heavies and the Qantas 747:
Upon boarding I was once again nicely greeted by 2 flight attendants, and again it was a very nice and fresh cabin. My seat was at back: 28F. It was also again a very light load, I would say about 30%. As I was seated at the back I had the whole back of the plane for myself! It felt like my own little cabin:
It took a while before we got pushed back. We then had a short taxi to the active. Once there we waited for 10 minutes before we took off:
The crew consisted of 1 male purser and 2 female flight attendants. And also on this last sector once the seat belt sign turned off they jumped into action. This is the snack we got and I got an OJ again:
Leg room shot:
The thin but comfortable seats:
As there wasn’t much to see outside I spent the rest of the time reading the Airliner World magazine and not to long after that we started our descent and landed on the “Aalsmeerbaan”, also known as 36R, and taxied to our gate:
I deboarded and went straight to the baggage claim. Schiphol was very deserted with nobody there. I went through the baggage claim and straight to my train which would take me back to Amsterdam Lelylaan. A 10 minute walk from the station and I was home and went straight to bed!
I surely did enjoy my day with Lufthansa! Spotless and fresh cabins! Nice flight attendants, they just give that extra even to such short flights. They worked very quick and efficient, and even if you are sleeping they set the snack right next to you so you still get it when you wake up. I also liked the fact that on every sector I got a different snack, so lots of variety there!
I hope you guys enjoyed my trip report as much as I enjoyed making it. Comments/suggestions/questions are very welcome and much appreciated! My next trip report will cover Vueling on the sectors: AMS-BCN-MAD-BCN-AMS on March the 22nd!

Hoi Brendan,
That's insane flying so close around our home airport haha... Shame that you got so many Airbus planes though, wouldn't you have liked something else? LH have quite a diverse fleet.
But LH offers a nice product indeed, not too keen with the small offerings you got catering wise. I've seen better 'meals' with them.
Anyway, you are quite actively flying around! Looking forward to Vueling. I did one flight on them, terrible legroom! Be prepared

Hoi Eric,
yeah well I like doing insane stuff if it involves flying haha.. Yeah I also wished that I could have got some different types but too bad better luck next time Yeah I've also seen better but thought it was ok for such short flights.
Also looking forward to Vueling I hear a lot of different stories about them, from very good to very bad so decided to try them out myself!

Hi there Brendan, nice report.
I am slightly amazed how you managed to book such a detour to Brussels with Lufthansa, but then again some extra flights sure beats the hell out of taking the train or car for that matter. As always LH seems to have delivered some proper and consistent service, clean aircraft as always.
Flew to Brussels this weekend, and I must say that airport wasn't the nicest one I've been to. Place felt very sterile, and dull. Also didn't like those massive long walks from the A terminal. They should have some rapid transit system instead.

Hi Jonas,
Thank you! You say it just right, a little flying detour beats taking train/car. Yes was very pleased with their service and cabin.
I understand what you mean about Brussels, sure is a long walk, but I dont really mind it that much. But sure can understand that people don't like that.

Really nice report! Looks like you had some nice intra-european flights with LH. I'm always impressed how LH serves some type of unique snack on every flight; very unlike other airlines. A chocolate croissant on a breakfast flight? This sounds amazing right now! A corn/cream bar on a short flight to BRU? Perfect for the flight length!

Quoting LH4116 (Reply 3): Eric, I would never have thought of you using the word Hoi. It's a nice word isn't it?
I don't know what's in your head but there is probably so much you can't think about what I do, did, use or say
Btw no need to 'wonder' Jonas. Just open your little dictionarymwhich would be enough to see that 'hoi' is a normal Dutch word and expression to greet somebody

Hello Brendan,
Nice little LH report. You flew the route I’ve always wanted to do but in reverse order, starting in BRU. Last year I did something similar, doing BRU-FRA-HEL-FRA-BRU in a day, profiting of a - I believe - mistake fare of LH. Usually their daytrips are way overpriced but this one was an exception. Nothing special here concerning aircraft nor airport (well, FRA’s always nice!) but the routing itself is kinda funny!
Quoting adamspotter (Thread starter): We parked at the remote stand around 08:30 which meant that I had 15 minutes to get to my next flight to Brussels as there was a 08:45 boarding time.
Oh my, that was tight. How cool to have parked to your next flight and doing all the detour to get to the gate again.

Hi Brendan
Nice report, thanks for sharing this route with us! Quite special since it's only 250kms away.
LH serves as usual a very consistent service and haves one of the better products out there.

Hi Sultanils,
Thanks! They usually are overpriced indeed, luckily I got this route for a good price and at the end of the month booked some other flights for a good price!
Quoting Sultanils (Reply 9): That’s good catering on these short flight. LH does it’s best to have some variety and it showed on your flights as you said.

haha yeah I know, but nothing beats flying if the possibility is there even if it's a detour No problem, and yes very nice flights indeed.
