Hello everyone and welcome to my 4th trip report,
This trip report will cover a day trip I made on Thursday the 29th of March. After having a nice day with Lufthansa in the beginning of March (see here) I decided to take another day trip with them except this time with some different types of planes: AMS-MUC-FCO-FRA-AMS. AMS-MUC with an E195 operated by Augsburg Airways. MUC-FCO-FRA with the A321 and the final leg FRA-AMS with one of their good old 737s. Today’s map:
Once again it was an early flight which meant waking up at 04:30. A quick shower and off I was once again to take the 05:17 train. This time no problem with the trains and I was at Schiphol around 05:25. Having checked in the night before for all sectors all I had to do is print my BPs out. Went upstairs and up to check-in area 8. In no time I printed out my BPs and stood in line in for security. Security was pretty fast and I was airside within 10 minutes. As it was still dark out there wasn’t much to spot so I decided to wait at the gate. Massage anyone?:
Gate for this sector, B23:
Boarding was supposed to start at 06:40, it eventually started at 06:55. As always I was one of the last ones to board. Was kindly greeted with a “Guten Morgen” and proceeded to my seat, 20F. Flight was about 50% full with lots of business people. Had someone sitting next to me. Announced flying time was 1h05min. View from my seat, the LH 737 was headed to FRA:
After a kind welcome from the cockpit we pushed back 10 min late. Runway for today was the “Polderbaan” also known as 36L. That meant a long taxi of about 20 mins:
Over the highway A4:
Starting take off roll, look at the moist on the wing and the nice sunrise, really like this shot:
And up we were:
The sun rising:
Right after take off we took a sharp right turn giving a nice view of part of the port of Amsterdam:
Straight through the clouds:
Safety card for all Augsburg Airways E195s:
The Lufthansa “Magazin”:
The very nice flight crew consisted of 1 female purser and 2 female flight attendants. Once the seatbelt sign was switched off they sprung into action. Snack on this sector was a kind of cold roll with egg and some other ingredients in it, quite nice actually. Together with that I got an OJ and some coffee:
Legroom shot:

The cabin:
Soon enough we started our descent into MUC:
A sharp left turn:
We then passed MUC which gave a nice overview:
That meant 2 sharp right turns and into final approach we were:
2 AB’s and 1 LH in line waiting for permission to take off:
The remote stands where we will also be parking:
And touchdown!:
Etihad at the gate:
Taxiing all the way back to the remote stands:
EuroLOT ATR landing:
A lot of Air Dolomiti here at MUC:
LOT Polish EMB170:
Almost there!:
In our parking position:
Upon deplaning the female purser stood there and gave everyone a chocolate in the shape of a heart with Augsburg Airways on it. A very nice touch too conclude this very nice flight! When heading towards the bus there was a lot of Polizei and security/airport personnel around the aircraft. A big difference with FRA! Before heading into the bus I got the chance to snap this shot:
It was a short bus drive and we arrived at MUC terminal. I had about 20 min before boarding time for my next flight. I went straight to the FIDS and it showed gate G03 instead of the planned G04 which meant quite a long walk to the other side of the terminal:
Upon arriving at my gate I saw that there was a delay of 35 min which gave me more time to explore the terminal. The FIDS showing my delay:
I really like how Lufthansa has these special stands with newspapers and free coffee/tea everywhere:
South African Airways A340-600 in *A scheme:
CO 767 ready to head back to the U.S.A.:
Boarding commenced for the Swiss flight to Zurich:
Taking another look at the FIDS I saw that the gate changed back to the planned G04. I arrived at the gate at 09:45. When arriving I could see it would be a very full flight with lots of Americans connecting through to Rome. Boarding finally commenced 20 minutes after scheduled departure time at 10:00. Our plane:
I was again one of the last ones to board. Close up on the nose:
We were standing in between 2 heavies:
When entering the aircraft I was kindly greeted by a female flight attendant. When checking online the night before there was no window seat available anymore , so I had to stick with seat 30D. As I was one of the last ones to board when passing the 2nd emergency exit row the flight attendant kindly asked if I would like to sit in the exit row. “Well of course I would like to, thanks” I answered. Flight was about 85% full. After a kind welcome from the cockpit we pushed back 25 mins after boarding at 10:25. A short taxi and we were up and away in no time. The safety card for all Lufthansa A321s:
“The Catalogue”:
The very nice leg room!:
Flight crew consisted of 1 female purser, 2 female and 1 male flight attendants. Soon enough they came by with the snack service. This time it was a croissant filled with cream cheese. Together with it I got another OJ and coffee:
Soon enough we started our descent into FCO and in no time we touched down on the runway. A 10 minute taxi later and we arrived at our gate. Deplaned in no time and as I had some time to spare I decided to go landside for a bit. FCO seemed to be a bit dull and “old” airport. The baggage claim area:

I then went back airside so straight through security which took only 5 min. When passing the security guard behind the X-ray machine he said something to me in Italian twice. When I sais English he said it once more in Italian. After giving him a face saying I don’t understand he asked if I had water with me. After answering no I was allowed through. Not sure what that was about. When airside I walked around the D-gates from which my plane will be departing. FIDS, Notice 3 VY flights. 1 IB flight and 2 flights to Portugal cancelled:
As there wasn’t much to see or do I decided to wait at the gate. Gate for this sector will be D5:
Scheduled boarding time was 12:50. It started at 13:10 and I was again one of the last to board. Upon looking at the plane quickly I saw it was the same plane that had just brought me to FCO from MUC a couple of hours ago! After being kindly greeted by the female flight attendant I proceeded to my seat 30F. Upon arriving there I saw that somebody was already in my seat. But as it was only a 40% full flight there were more than enough empty rows so I stuck with seat 31A with the whole row for myself. Nice! Our neighbor this time was an Air Dolomiti EMB195:
After once again a nice welcome from the cockpit we pushed back at 13:25, 5 minutes after our scheduled time:
A 5 minute taxi time brought us to the active:
An Alitalia A320 took off in front of us:
An EasyJet, Alitalia and Norwegian taxiing to the active behind us:
Then came a nice, powerfull and short take off roll which gave me a nice overview of FCO:
Int’l terminal:
Straight over the coastline:
And back over land:
An airport on the way:
The terrain became more and more mountainous:
Flight crew consisted of 1 female purser and 3 female flight attendants. Soon enough the snack service commenced. Snack on this third leg was a kind of sweet bread with another kind of cream cheese on it, also quite nice. And once again I got an OJ and coffee with it:
We then flew over the Alps, I’ll let the pictures to the talking:
With the whole row for myself I of course had perfect legroom:
The cabin:
We then started our bumpy descent into FRA:
Football stadium number 1:
Football stadium number 2:
And into final approach:
Landing was on the “new”runway which gave a very nice overview of FRA:
And touchdown!:
Lufthansa CRJ in *A colors landing:
Taxiing to our gate passing a couple of heavies:
Will be flying one of those this coming Friday (6 April) to Toronto for easter weekend!:
This time no remote stand, but gate A13:
In our parking position:
Deplaning went quickly and I was inside terminal 1 in no time. Walked directly to the FIDS to check my gate and it showed gate B14. That meant I had to walk over to the B-gates using the long pedestrian tunnel. Before walking over to it I caught this UA 777 still in one of the old colors heading to Washington:
The long pedestrian tunnel:
Gate B14 is a bit remote from the other gates. It is also a bit hidden. After walking a bit this is where I ended up:
Our gate:
My BP was scanned and the I took a seat at the “holding pen”:
Soon enough boarding commenced. I was one of the last to enter the bus. While sitting in the bus we waited for quite a while for a couple other passengers to arrive even though the bus was very full. Finally after 10 minutes the bus left. We drove past a lot of aircraft straight to our remote stand where our aircraft was waiting:
Upon boarding I was greeted by a flight attendant who was looking a bit grumpy. I proceeded to my row which was one of the last ones. View from my seat:
TAM 777 waiting at the remote stand before being towed back to the gate for the return flight tonight:
One more bus arrived with a handful of passengers. With the row still too myself I was feeling very lucky. But of course the last 2 people that boarded the plane had the 2 seats next to me assigned to them. So I eventually had a young Chinese couple next to me. Flight was quite full I would say about 90% full. Announced flying time was 55 mins and after another kind greeting from the cockpit we pushed back right on time:
It was a very short taxi to runway 25C:
It was quite busy so we waited there for 10 mins before lining up on the runway:
An Asiana 747 landing with a Saudi Arabian Cargo 747 waiting to take off also:
After waiting on the runway another 5 mins we started our take off roll:
Asiana 747 taxiing off the runway:
Lufthansa Technik:
See you next week!:
Safety card for all Lufthansa 737s:
Legroom shot:
Flight crew on this last leg consisted of 1 female purser, 1 male and 1 grumpy female flight attendant. A very interesting snack on this leg. A very nice and tasty “Kartoffel” salad, together with that I got a coke:
We then quickly started our descent:
And on final approach it was quickly clear to me that we will be landing on the “Aalsmeerbaan” also known as 36R:
Close up on our contrail:
And touchdown for the last time today!:
“Kaagbaan” also known as 24:
We taxied over to our gate, gate B15:
Close up on part of the cargo ramp, you can also see the Martinair “Safari Connection” 747:
In our parking position at gate B15:
After deplaning I went straight through the baggage claim and into Schiphol plaza. As usual straight to the trains where my train back to Lelylaan station came very quickly. And half an hour after I deplaned at Schiphol I was back home again.
I had another very great day with Lufthansa. All good flight crew except for the one that was grumpy on the FRA-AMS leg, but that couldn’t ruin anything for me. Good service on all legs with some nice snacks. A little delay on the MUC-FCO leg but nothing serious. Can’t wait till next week when I fly long haul on Lufhtansa for an Easter weekend in Toronto! Haven’t flow long haul on Lufthansa yet so very curious how there long haul product will be!
Well that will conclude this trip report. I hope you guys enjoyed it as much as I enjoyed making it. Comments/questions and very welcome!

Hi Brendan!
Again a nice tripreport from your side!
Seems like you had a nice daytrip with LH. I'm going to Italy in June, FCO is on the schedule so it was interesting to read about your experience there.

Hi Martin!
Thanks! glad you enjoyed it, it was again a very pleasant day indeed. Yeah didn't really like Rome was very dull but then of course I was only there for about an hour so could've been a bad first impression

Hi Brendan
Cool report. Looks like Lufthansa were able to deliver a solid performance on all flights. The food looks quite substantial on the AMS-MUC sector. Usually it's one of the yoghurt Müsli mix thingies on Lufthansa.
Quoting adamspotter (Reply 1): With the whole row for myself I of course had perfect legroom:
This really made me laugh. Sure you had the whole row to yourself but quite frankly, you don't look too comfortable.

Haai Brendan!
Nice report on your all Lufty day. Good flights, good service as we expect from this consistent quality carrier. Quite a coincidence to have the same plane on the MUC-FCO-FRA stretch. Did the F/A’s recognize you?

Hi Sultanils!
thanks, glad you enjoyed it. A quality carrier indeed! 1 of the F/A's recognized me actually (didn't say much about it though)
Quoting sultanils (Reply 11): And you knew that already at that moment
No not at that moment, didn't mean it that way hehe

Hi Brendan!
Nice to see you in the air again!
Good catch on the EMB-190 from Augburg airways on the AMS-MUC sector
Must be funny to have the same A/C and crew on the MUC-FCO-FRA hops!

Hi Brendan,
nice report about a really cool day of flying around Europe. Now having done a trip recently as well featuring AMS and FCO a lot of it looked quite familiar for me. And LH service good as expected, really nice to have such a variety of different snacks, always good for a surprise.
Nice picture, always great when you see the airport from the air.

Hmm, I have never been to that area in FRA, doesn't look too inviting.

Hi Marc,
Yes, just love being in the air! A very nice catch indeed, and the best flight of all the 4 sectors! Was quite surprised to get the same plane on those 2 hops.

That's one of the things I like about LH, all those different snacks. Everytime I fly them it's a surprise what i'll get, very nice indeed.

as promised, I will take a view for you´re stories now.
Well done, that´s definitely the way to spend a day in the air.
Good to see you´re opinion about FCO. A place where I´ve been a good number of times and also last weekend.
Hope to follow something long haul soon.
