My flight down was on May 29. I had a lot of decisions to make when booking. I could have paid less and gone direct from LGA-JAX on a regional, but the flight times weren't as nice. I also could have taken Air Tran through LGA. It's also easier to park and go at Bradley than in New York. So I opted for that along with the better flight times.
Delta #825 Scheduled departure was at 6:35 PM. I left my house around 3:45, I was told there wasn't much wait time at Bradley. I arrived around 5:15 to long term parking and there was a van practically waiting for me to take me to the quick ride to the departure area. I checked in fairly quickly, considering there was also a flight going out to Cincinatti and an Express flight to PBI. I was assigned 36D on the 757 down to Atlanta. I indulged in a Cinnabon before clearing security and placed all my stuff in my backpack before screening. I set off the detector anyway. I think it was the button on my pants. So I had to go for the wand as well. The security people in Hartford were more than friendly and efficient. took a quick walk through the terminal, not much to spot or going on at the moment. I realized my backpack was wet, my water bottle had leaked, soaking my cellphone (it never worked again, arggh!) and all my other stuff, so while boarding was taking place, I was taking everything out of my bag trying to dry it off. I finally boarded. The flight was a little more than half full and we took off on time. We recieved snack mix and soft drink. Entertainment was free, I think an episode of Frasier, and a ESPN Sportscentury on Secretariat (very interesting). Flight was pretty smooth and we arrived into Atlanta a few minutes early.
I had enough time before my 10:10 departure on flight #2031 to JAX to grab a hot dog and talk a walk through terminal. I enjoyed the African art display on the walk to T terminal. We boarded on time and to my surpise the same flight crew from my 757 was working the 767 to Jacksonville. Plus a few others. Flight was pretty empty. I had an entire middle row to myself after I moved over from 31F. Service was "Fast Break" style. and the in flight enertaiment was the same as my flight down form BDL. It was a quick hop over to Jacksonville, and our landing felt like we slammed down practically, very rough. Felt like we came in pretty fast, but I think that was my imagination.
Return flight #587 JAX-ATL at 7:30 PM. I arrived at the aiport pretty early, 5:30, good move since they only had 2 agents to check in first class, and 2 more for coach. And they had three planes going out, one to CVG, one to Atlanta and one to DFW, the line was pretty long. At one poing I didn't think we have an on time departure because it would take too long to check everyone in. Apparently the DFW flight was delayed, and they were trying to reroute many of the Pax through ATL to make connections, that what was making the wait longer. I still thought they should have had more agents working the counter, maybe they were short staffed. I finally checked in, 38B would be my seat, again a 767. again not full, I'm kind of surprised they fly such big planes on such a relatively short route. I don't know if they even offered entertainment on this flight. I was out of it after a long weekend of partying, I did take them up on the fast break service again. We did make an on time departure and arrival into Atlanta, softer landing on the 767 this time.
I connected to #1596 departing ATL at 9:40 PM. again I had a fair amount of time to kill in Atlanta so I just walked through the terminal taking in the mix of Delta planes and being dissapointed that the Starbucks close so damn early in the terminal there. Boarded an MD-88, seat 30D. fairly full flight. quiet plane, even though I was fairly close to the back. No entertainment at all, even worse my walkman batteries died about halfway through the flight. Oh well. arrived on time again and quickly got to my car in long term parking and made it home in an hour and 15 minutes including a stop at McDonald's.

Great report. I know what you mean about the widebodies. Four years ago i flew a 767-200 from ATL-FLL. Such a big plane for such a short flight, oh well i enjoyed it. What's a fast break?

The other drink for FastBreak is some Orange Juice. I don't mind FastBreak, except when you have a tight connection at ATL and you were running late at MCO (which means no food until dinner). What I was surprised about in the reading was the fact that there were only two agents to check in economy. For three flights (including a 767) leaving in a short time span, I would have assumed more.
