Ciao, dear readers once again,
when I look out the window here in Germany, I see drizzling rain and sun, joke, no sun at all.
Better to go straight back to the story. Brindisi offers much better weather opportunities for me.
Brindisi?. Yes, I´am in Puglia
I´am the early bird, so it seems!.
After a real good sleep, dreaming of Orecchiette Pasta,
dried tomatoes, a glass of Pinot Nero, really?.
And further along some of these beautiful, ah, people here, anything else expected?.
Breakfast is served from 07.00 am, every minute is precious on travel, so I´am ready perfectly ontime
and later on for a view like this.
Nice, isn´t it?
A warm welcome to a pretty sunny day in southern Italy
Well, it seems the locals need some more sleep than me
Palms and ancient buildings
Harbour view with some strange subjects around.
Albania is just above the sea.
"Do you speak english?".
"No, non parlano inglese". That helps!
Ships at work
Ferry crossing
Me and the fishermen
Brindisi is also a place with a huge military presence
The end of the Via Appia, you know
No way by car here in the old town
A nice church
This one is open to the public
Old town living
Stazione Brindisi, my way to go for the airport by the public bus again. The fare 90 Cent.

Service AZ 1624 operated by Alitalia
Scheduled: 11.20 // 12.30
Let´s count a new departure airport now.
Brindisi Aeroporto del Salento
Also spacious inside
Roma for me from gate 7
Strange yellow seaters
No time to wait at security and the same yellow seaters are also here in the gate area
There is no lounge on offer at BDS.
Well, one more equipment change?. No way, not for me. The MD is on schedule, warm welcomed and one of the reasons to go exactly on this schedule for this destination
How I love equipment changes this way. From the not that frequently covered and soon to be gone MD, to the most tagged plane type in my log.
Where is these irony out button?.
No, this doesn´t looks like an MD, but fortunately AZ decides as a small compensation to send a special livery greeting to me
No bad news from gate 07
Self service boarding, sure ok with these nice weather conditions
Close up
Under the wing, if ever possible
EI-DSA for me now, leg no. 84 on type and a new one to the log. Since 18.09.2006 in the air with AirOne and Alitalia. Another example from the 53 in the actual fleet
What a nice message
More under the wing, sure
Logo, full view
Btw., this leg is booked with AZ directly. The fare 35.00 Euro´s and Check-In is done online without any problems this time from the hotel last night.
Seat 28A and three for me here.
Cabin view, the load is 50%
Bye now to the Aeroporto del Salento
11.10 am, ten minutes early, how I miss these sunny 22 degrees further on. 1.00 hour to go for "Alitalia" from runway 31. The same like arrivals but the other direction.
We´re using not the full lenght here, that´s definitely relaxed Italian style.
Cockpit crew is from Italy, the captain with a short welcome after boarding is completed and once again very short during descent.
Along the coastline
Cabin crew is two male, one elder, one middle aged, both ok, two females, one nice elder and one middle aged ok style.
Turning inland
The inseat screens are working again
What´s the thing with these well used safety cards here by AZ?
Service is also here free drinks only, no more "Biscotti" with AZ?.
Legroom is ok with the bright grey leather seats. Not that really clean btw.
No route or flightlevel information.
Roma from above
Touchdown at 16L like yesterday, 12.15 am, 15 minutes ahead to schedule, 18 degrees and cloudy.
Some Skyteam tails around
Not that I´ve talked earlier about my preference for these fashion advertissements here in Italy
Let´s have a view for the next lounge now.
Service Alitalia AZ 2044 operated by Alitalia CityLiner
Scheduled: 15.00 // 16.10
This is the AZ Sala Bernini lounge with a nice welcome from an elder female agent.
Offers are limited here
Not that much customers around and therefore space enough for me
Well designed
Former AZ uniforms
This leg is also booked by AZ directly. The fare this way
45.00 Euro´s.
Back to the gates to catch a view for my plane.
The E75 is on schedule, check-in is done also yesterday from the hotel. Hopefully no more further changes.
Hey, what´s that in the left corner of these picture?
Ah, the cute Embraer heading for my gate
Carpatair was also here yesterday
This is EI-RDC, leg no. 4 on type. Easy to note, a new registration. Anyone in for the new plane smell?.
"Parco Nazionale Delle Cinque Terre" is less than four weeks in service since 02.03.2012 with Alitalia CityLiner.
There are five examples in the fleet by now
What about to catch some more new departure airports ex Roma?.
Well, sometimes I feel like a well traveled bird.
There is simply one airport here on the whole screen not yet covered and exactly that place is coming up in June
These airport code looks like also nice
Boarding well ontime from gate B06.
We are some minutes ahead to schedule and "Cityliner" should leave Roma now for the 50 minutes bound to Milano-Linate from runway 25.
Good legroom, bright grey leather seats here, clean so far
These safety card looks like better
Cabin crew is two female FA´s, one young and really nice together with a middle aged woman. She also welcomed me at the door.
Don´t get me wrong, she´s looking really good in a somewhat gothic style, large, black hair and black makeup, cosi bella!.
Cockpit crew is from Italy, the captain with a very nice and detailed welcome after boarding is completed.
Leaving Roma and 18 cloudy degrees by now
Cabin view from 22F, two for me here and the load is 80%.
Service is free drinks and more Biscotti for me, thanx to the nice young FA girl, than one piece each by all the other AZ flights
Where the marble is coming from, northern Tuscany
White mountains but not snowy this time
No route or flightlevel information.
Puh, that was a heavy crosswind approach, the first time for me above the city of Milano for the 2440 meters runway 18.
The plane jumped up and down, from side to side like a paper model thing.
4.00 pm, ten minutes ahead to schedule, 18 degrees, sunny and really strong wind.
By now to this cute machine
There is a direct bus service between LIN and MXP, but you know, that´s not my preference.
So heading now by StarFly to Milano Centrale, the fare 5.00 Euro´s.
Should I go more often by bus?.
There is only one other passenger in the bus waiting with me till departure.
A really nice young woman from Mexico and soon we had a nice chat about travel in general, her intentions to go for Milano (By train the next day to Livorno and by ferry to Corsica, no way, absolutely no way, that this sounds somewhat interesting to me) and my weekend. That´s the way to spend the time!.
Now that´s an station cathedral
By subway further to Milano Nord Cadorna, 1.50 Euro´s
And finally on the Malpensa Express for MXP, 11.00 Euro´s
Sunday, 01.04.2012

Service Lufthansa LH 3199 operated by Contact Air
Scheduled: 20.10 // 21.05
The same again here, checked-in from the hotel but not yet printed. The Star Gold counter is open without any customers, so catched the boarding pass within seconds.
This is part 3 from the original Opodo booking, legs 1, 2 and 7 by now together, the fare 50.00 Euro´s this way.
Lufthansa operated a own dedicated lounge here, that´s the way to go now for me.
There is a young woman walking beside me from the train station to the check-in level. And by coincidence she´s directly in front of me while we waited for the security check. Some five minutes only, she´s from Austria and travelling on Austrian for Vienna.
Nice as I am, I invited here for the lounge and we had a nice short chat there.
That looks like good
Bread rolls and crackers
Modern style seaters here
Puh, Stuttgart Annullato, but thankfully not my flight today from gate A35
Down to the gate now, the bus stations as usual
and we will see what´s waiting on the apron
No more further equipment change, thankfully
This is the immaculate looking scheduled F100
Contact Air, how long again?
Boarding now for D-AFKC, leg no. 28 on type and surprise, this is a new entry to my log.
In the air since 15.04.1996 with Formosa and Mandarin Airlines and on the German register with Contact since 01.11.2009.
8 planes are actually in the fleet.
The machine is registered with an medical diversion for CDG last year on a flight from DUS to VLC
Proactive talking with the nice female gate agent earlier shows me the following:
There is no one booked in biz on these service and therefore no biz meals are loaded.
No one in biz or one in biz?.
Boarding as the last pax, a chat with the nice middle aged male FA and so there is finally one pax in row 1 here on 1F with the whole row beside open
There is also a middle aged nice female FA here on the plane.
8.10 pm, perfectly ontime and "Contactair" is ready for the 45 minutes STR bound from runway 17R, another first for me on departure from Milano Malpensa.
12 degrees, clear sky and really strong wind.
I´am going used to this legroom here and the bright grey leather seats, the cabin is clean and well maintained. The load is more than 90%
The clean safety card
Cockpit crew is from Germany. Simply no message from upfront, not what I really prefer.
LH´s april issue
Service is snacks and free drinks.
No route or flightlevel information.
Bulkhead is sure ok here for me
Landed back in Stuttgart on 07, 09.15 pm, ten minutes late, clear sky and 4 degrees. Not that long to walk for my car and soon thereafter back home.
What about the conclusions per flight now:
AZ BDS - FCO: As relaxed as it could be.
AZ FCO - LIN: Comfy and nice staff.
LH MXP - STR: Let the upgrades roll.
Some days for biz now and than:
What about choosing Etihad on the way to Abu Dhabi?.

Hi Markus,
Nice report about Italia.
AZ could definitely improve their inflight offering again, if its just some thing small.
LH looks pretty standard and its really sad to see the F100 go.

Hi Markus
Really nice to see a report on the AZ E-jet. I was wondering when you would post a report featuring this newly introduced aircraft type to AZ. I am aware that AZ Express had E170s a few years back and remember seeing them all over the place but it's good to see new aircraft join the fleet, and complimented by the bigger brother - E190. I am due to sample the E190 from LCY - LIN next month and your report was very timely - so thank you.
Shame about the equipment change (again!) but looks like you had a suitable replacement in the special coloured A320. Nice one.
The sunny weather in Italy looked so nice - like Germany perhaps, we've had nothing but rain rain and rain here in London over the past month. Some real spring weather would be welcome!

Hi Markus,
Good to see your return journey up so surprisingly fast. Brindisi looks like a very nice town, I really like Puglia a lot. Seems far more civilized than the mess that most of Italy can be. Shame about the equipment change on the first flight but at least you got that factory fresh E175, congrats on that!

Hah, when I saw that red glass/plastic separator thingy on your photos I first thought they were corrupted - you know if you get a corrupted JPEG image this kind of things start happening - you get random colored stripes across it. But nope, seems to be a design feature. Not sure if I agree with it, though.

"Parco Nazionale Delle Cinque Terre" is less than four weeks in service since 02.03.2012 with Alitalia CityLiner.
Congratulations. I didn't realize they had actually ordered the 175 model instead of the 170s the older examples in the fleet are. A very nice catch and the only E-jet subtype still missing from me...
Quoting FLIEGER67 (Thread starter): There is simply one airport here on the whole screen not yet covered and exactly that place is coming up in June
Nantes? But I know your feeling - I do the same stuff when watching FIDS. I'm missing four airports from that list, though.
Quoting FLIEGER67 (Thread starter): Don´t get me wrong, she´s looking really good in a somewhat gothic style, large, black hair and black makeup, cosi bella!.
Markus at it again.
Quoting FLIEGER67 (Thread starter): There is a direct bus service between LIN and MXP, but you know, that´s not my preference.
I took it once. It seemed to take an eternity, I think almost one and half hours due to some heavy traffic.
Quoting FLIEGER67 (Thread starter): So heading now by StarFly to Milano Centrale, the fare 5.00 Euro´s.
What's that? Isn't there a local bus + subway connection as well which costs the regular ticket price, 1.50 EUR or so?
Quoting FLIEGER67 (Thread starter): And finally on the Malpensa Express for MXP, 11.00 Euro´s
Well I think you should! I'm not sure why you chose to take that Malpensa Express - it is a major ripoff, definitely not an express train plus the hassle to get to Cadorna makes it not worth it. There are lots of very frequent buses from Centrale to Malpensa, fares around 10 EUR if I recall correctly and they make the journey in around 45 minutes. Always my choice!
Quoting FLIEGER67 (Thread starter): Lufthansa operated a own dedicated lounge here, that´s the way to go now for me.
Good to know they haven't closed it after the demise of the Lufty Italia operation. I spent some time in that lounge on a couple of occasions back in 2010.
Quoting FLIEGER67 (Thread starter): Nice as I am, I invited here for the lounge and we had a nice short chat there.
Hmm, looks like they have even enhanced the food options. Very nice.
Quoting FLIEGER67 (Thread starter): Puh, Stuttgart Annullato, but thankfully not my flight today from gate A35
Well, that would've been the true Contact Air style, wouldn't it?
Quoting FLIEGER67 (Thread starter): Boarding as the last pax, a chat with the nice middle aged male FA and so there is finally one pax in row 1 here on 1F with the whole row beside open
See, this is the difference between Germany and Italy. Or actually the national psyche - the former being obsessed with cleanliness and order, the latter not caring about the small details as long as the life is good .
25 ROGERBCN: Bravissimo Markus! Another great read on this dull Saturday morning as temperatures will not reach 20C, very different from Berlin where they forecast
