Dear fellow reader,
After a month of hard work it was time to enjoy a little break to HKG with TG in F/J from FRA.
Background:
I’ve collected over 1 million miles with US Air, and figured it was time to burn some.. Let me tell you, it was a pain in the A…s..
Given my flexibility and destinations I was pretty confident about finding two seats in F. Bullshit. I wanted to sample the new F with LH. There was not even one seat available to 25 destinations or dates, I did find out the availability (LH) over the AC or UA site but nothing with US…. Damn it !
Ok never mind, let’s figure it out, I got the space with TG, let’s issue the ticket. It took me 30 min to clear it up. Issued two days before take off.
It was time to book the hotel, I went for the Ritz, one word : Outstanding ! And so expensive !!!
At check in in FRA my wife had trouble to get the boarding pass.. She flies with an Algerian Passport, hence the agent had to check if a visa is required to HKG.
Once we cleared the check in we headed to the LH Senator Lounge.. I love the new design, tough it would have been nicer and fair to use the FCL, yes LH uses the TG FCL in BKK.
The best thing in this lounge is the view !!!!!!! I was able to shot my beloved 77W. Nothing is better than a triple seven not even the 380 nor the 787 according to me of course.
We had some bites, I love the bretzel bread, I got more than 5 for sure. At 9 Pm it was time for boarding.
I Had the Lamb fillet but it was so good that I even forgot the shot it… My wife went for the Rost Duck in Red Curry but since it was too spicy she asked for the Chicken breast.
The crew : Can you complain when you fly TG F, so far, no ! Perfect as usual.
Upon arrival the ground staff was there to fetch us and bring us to the FCL.
The lounge remains one of the best in the world.
As always I ordered the Pad Thai, my favorite.
Then it was time to do a full body massage….
Once finished and we were relaxed it was time to board to HKG in J. I did not take anything as I fell asleep.
The Return :
After four wonderful days in HK (it was my 31th here) it was time to fly back to the dying Europe continent… just for couple of days.. What a relief..
Clock was set a 4h30am, time to take a shower, pack up our hand luggages, my wife to put the make up on her face (long work) and at 5h30 we were on our way to the airport… My wife is so keen to live here so do I, but since we set up a business in SIN, it’s tougher to move now on. We never know….
Once we reached the Terminal 2, it took a while to get the boarding pass as well.. My wife has a PR Card for Europe, once our BP in hand we went to the TG lounge, had noodles and my wife decided to do some shopping… Luckily for me at 7 am almost all shops are closed….
Flying time to BKK was almost 2h15. I was so exhausted we fell asleep as soon as we took off.
We were told by the FA to set the seat in up right position as we were close to land.
TG over the past months has never failed to impress me. Once out, we were fetch by a ground staff, Mr xxxx how are you today, as I can see today you don’t fly alone… Yes he did remember me from my previous flights. This kind of behavior reminds me why I kept flying with them.
As soon as we were at the FCL, we booked the spa, neck and shoulder and also foot massage.
As always the massage was so good, I gave her a tip 10€. She was happy. I always do that, It’s fair, they do a very nice job and the smile on her face is priceless.
Once relaxed it was time to eat 3 Pad Thai in a row followed my a Chocolate bomb.
I did some online job and it was time to board and discovered a pleasant surprise.
To me the purpose of site/forum such as FT or airliners is to share tricks, reports, and sometime see others members.
I stumbled upon Slaman (nickname in FT) and his wife, they were doing a RTW Aeroplan ticket. We actually recognized ourselves because we were taking seat and meal picture !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! We had a great talk about airlines, deals and so on…
Thanks god they did not lost their passports… I still wonder how’d that happened. I’m really looking forward to fly with him again !
The load was 7/8 with four awards tickets !!!!
We were greeted by a lovely FA and we were shown our seats.
As I wanted a window seat, my wife took mine and I went to windows. The best seat to snag wings shots…
For the main I took Stir-Fried Tiger Prawn with Guilin Chilli sauce, oriental fried rice, sautéed vegetables and the wife took the veal. It was perfect.

Hey Thomas, nice report! Good to see you back on the forum, it's been a while since last
Quoting milesaddict (Thread starter): I’ve collected over 1 million miles with US Air, and figured it was time to burn some.. Let me tell you, it was a pain in the A…s..
Wow now that's an impressive amount, and also great that you had collected them on the right FFP, some good value for those miles. I just hope those miles won't expire anytime soon?
Quoting milesaddict (Thread starter): She flies with an Algerian Passport, hence the agent had to check if a visa is required to HKG.
Interesting, so how comes she didn't get a french or US passport from you? Surely they must make traveling easier for her.

Yeah, well LH are über strict when it comes to accessing their F facilities. They even bend the rules at some cases, like this one guy who was flying to BRU on LH, and his friends heading to BKK in F. According to the rules, a F pax can bring a guest to the FCL given the guest has a LH/*A BP valid for the day. Sadly though the agents denied him access to the FCT, and despite bringing a statement of the rules and presenting them to the manager, they still didn't want to let him in despite acknowledging that the rules would indeed let him enter. LH are really sending out double morale by acting this way, very poor of them!
Quoting milesaddict (Thread starter): I was delighted to take my wife along. It’s so boring to fly alone.
Interesting that your wife opted for the Champagne. So you turn down alcohol for religious reasons, or simply for the matter of health and taste?

thanks for the report!
I tried making it on Thai's 77J on a recent trip down to AKL via BKK, but I was leaving out of LHR and in the end for various reasons it made more sense to take the direct LHR-BKK flight instead of going through FRA.
Seeing as you've flown this route quite bit, do you think you'll try to make it on one of the first TG A380 flights?
looks like its starting BKK-HKG between Oct 28-Dec 14 then switching over BKK-FRA daily after the 14th of December.
First class looks like a different colour scheme but pretty similar to what is on offer on the 77J, but J will be many steps higher in quality from their current offerings on their mainline (and the the 77J in my opinion)!
thanks for all the pics,
~Cheers-

Hi Jonas, what's up, glad to see you here !!!
Well not a long time, I've published the report with LX and LH in F, but it was a lousy one.

As long as I keep flying within star, it won't. But they might merge with AA... Since I'm already BA Gold... it's useless.
Quoting LH4116 (Reply 1): Interesting, so how comes she didn't get a french or US passport from you? Surely they must make traveling easier for her.
She are married for 2 years, as a US Citizen and French she went for french... What a shame.... but she have to wait two more years to get the french citizenship according to the law... Yes life would have been far easier for both of us...

It's funny to see how many fellow ask me why I don't drink, I don't like alcohol. She wife however enjoyed the Veuve Clicot.
Quoting LH4116 (Reply 1): Ah those look delicious, but were they as good as the real deal from France?
Even better she said...
TG ranks very high...
Cheers Jonas !

I nearly missed this Tom - so nice to see that you enjoyed the flight in the exact same seat as me, just 24 hours earlier! It's a shame we missed each other by a day, and that your wife couldn't leave BKK airport.

I'm getting hungry at 5:21 PM after checking out this trip report.
Thank you for the photos on your usual TG F run across the continents! What a way to travel!!
Not sure about the reasons behind regarding no F louge for other STAR F pax?
I wonder where would SQ send out their Suite pax! I think SQ must fight till those can get into LH F lounge lol
It's absolutely wonderful memory flying with your love ones on these special service across the continents.
I wish I'll have the chances in the near future
Thanks again...for flying THAI? (even though I don't work for them)
