Hey Y'all! Let me tell you, this thanksgiving has been a travely NIGHTMARE for my family! I left last Monday on a USAirways flight from PHL-PIT, it was on a FOkker 100. There wa nothing special about this flight, got into PIT early actually, greeted by snow. However, it got ugly after that. The next day my dad spent the whole day in Atlanta trying to get on a DL flight to PIT (he is a Delta employee so he non-revs). He got in on the second to last flight, ther are six daily. His was ok, but still getting bad. On Thanksgiving night my Aunt Donna flew in form LGA. Wow, was that an experience. Her plane was delayed, and the one that departed after hers was cancelled. So all these passengers were trying to get onto this one flight. She was lfying on a buddy pass form my grandmother. She got the last seat on the airplane. 25F. Still not too bad, but oculd have been better. Really it doesnt get bad until yesterday (Sunday). The busiest travel day of the year. I was expecting some problems in PIT, but NOTHING like what happened last night! All three Philly flights that left from 5-9 (a 5:50ish, 8:50{mine} and a 9:30) were delayed until 8:50, 9:35 and 9:55 respectiuvely. Checking in for my flight (1969) which was delayed until 9:35 was horrible. They were using four gates to check in our flight but all were being used to check in and board other ones at the same time. The monitors said A-11, A-13, A-6 an A-8 virtually at the same time for our flight. Then the 5:50 flight which was delayed until 8:50 had'
an incident". The aircraft blew an engine 8 mins into the flight and had to return to Pittsburgh. So they decided to put as many as could fit on our flight. So we had an extra plane-load of people trying to get on the next to flights to Philly. Our plane was stuck in Baltimore, it departed at 8:20 and got into Pit at 9:20. They decided we would depart at 9:50. HA! No such luck!! They had to reload bags off the plane that blew an engine. Then they ran out of baggage space so they had to check bags form about half the passengers on the plane. Our crew was late ocming in form Boston which made it worse. Our plane pushed back at 10 after 10. Take-off was an experience! We had an unusually long take-off roll (well longer then i have expereinced in a 737-400), when the nose came up we didnt get far ff the ground, so the pilot pulled the nose up farther, you could feel yourself being pushed back in the seat. We started to shake and i instantly thought of Air Florida flight 90. The ground didnt seem to get very far away until the pilot turned is to the right, he still had the nose jacked up and we started to climb. Boy was i ever happy to get into the clouds. Well not for long, it got veyr bumpy and we were in the forever, at one point it felt like we were falling. I doubt anything serious happened but afte the night i had i wasnt to surprised if something had...Other then that the rest of the flight was uneventful, we landed in Philly just after 11. But back at PIT, ouch. A flight for MKE left our gate at 9:05, 15 mins before our plane got in, as soon as we started boarding they started checking in passengers for a flight to Hartford. That plane was delayed from a departure around 10 to 1:20 in the morning. They wouldnt get in until 3:00am. This was what it wa slike all over the Pittsbrugh airport. I guess i could have had it worse but still. I think when i can drive i will be dirving form PHL-PIT...
