Hello fellow Anetters, welcome to my second trip report! My first trip report didnt go so well as my pics refused to show up in the post, Even though I managed to solve the problem it was sadly too late to edit. Ive always read trip reports here on A.net and always wanted to write one for myself but even though my first was a bit a of a failure im sure I'll get this one right!
So my first year at uni in MAN has ended, ive met some really great people along the way and also managed to visit the Runway Viewing Park at MAN airport when the 787 was here. Here's a couple of photos from that visit:

So now it's time to return home for a well deserved break. My original flight LGW-ANU was booked since last August as a return and my MAN-LGW flight was booked a couple weeks ago, all on BA. I also booked SVG Air for the ANU-MNI leg. So lets begin, but I must say my pics are not of the best quality and its a bit long, but I still hope you guys enjoy reading it.
Check In:
BA's online check in opens 24 hours before your flight is scheduled to depart, however I didn't have a suitable internet connection available due to recent relocating. So I decided to give BA's mobile app a try for this trip. With the app, you can view your flight status or itineraries, check in and download your boarding pass to your phone. So I thought, why not use it? However, it took me 3 tries in a period of 40 minutes just to check in for the MAN-LGW flight. Not my fault or the app, but rather connection problems with my mobile service provider. Check in for the LGW-ANU flight was done without any issues and both boarding passes were downloaded to my smart phone.
Getting to the Airport:
I decided to take the first train that morning to MAN using Transpennine Express from Salford Cresent Railway Station. http://farm9.staticflickr.com/8149/7400901950_a5160db3d2_b.jpg
IMG-20120618-00019 by 817Dreamliiner, on Flickr
Upon arriving at the station I realised the ticket office wasnt open. It was literally a ghost town there. The train arrived on time at 05:55 and boarded, without a ticket! But eventually bought one on board near Piccadilly, the only stop on the route to MAN.
At the Airport:
Arrived at the airport approx. 6: 18 and made my way to terminal 3 via the sky walk. Unfortunately, due to it being summer it was a bit brighter outside the sky walk didnt have the blue lighting.

However I do have this photo from back in December :

IMG00275-20111217-0723 by 817Dreamliiner, on Flickr
So I continued the long walk to Terminal 3. To me, it is quite a bit of a walk. After a while I finally arrived and went straight to departures as I wasn't checking any bags. I find doing this a whole lot easier and less stressful than having checked bags. If you fly into MNI as often as I do you could understand where im coming from.
After clearing security, I went to the departure lounge. It was still early as my flight to LGW wasn't scheduled to depart till 8:20 so I decided to go to gate 141, which eventually was my gate for my flight, to do some spotting . Both 5L and 5R were in use, 5R for landings and 5L for take offs.

At around 7:35 my BA flight arrived and parked up at gate 141, quite nice of them because now I didnt have to go looking for the gate:D. Soon after it was time to board!

Boarding commenced and everyone pretty much got up and lined up in front of the gate, got my smart phone out and opened the BA app to have my boarding pass scanned. After that I was down in the jetway and on the aircraft.

The Mandatory legroom shot, not bad but im sure it would have been better if I didnt have my laptop bag there.
The door was finally closed and we pushed back on time. The captain and crew welcomed us onboard and briefed us about today's flight. flying time was to be about 45 minutes at a cruising altitude of 19000 feet. the CFM56 engines were started and we began taxiing to the active runway 5L for takeoff.

The seat belt sign was turned off and the crew began serving breakfast, at first I wasn't expecting much for this short flight, but we were all served Bacon and scrambled egg paninis, which was pretty good for a short flight IMO but was pretty hot and burnt my tongue a bit but was still delicious. Sorry there's no pic of it.
The flight went pretty fast and it was soon time to descend into LGW

We then parked at a gate (dont remember which)at pier 6 and thanked the crew for their service disembarked and was then bused to the Domestic arrivals area in the North Terminal, was a bit disappointed because I wanted to walk across the bridge that connects it to the rest of the North Terminal, o well... guess it's only one way.

We pushed back a bit late due to two passengers deciding not to board, and their bags had to be removed. We ended up pushing back 15 minutes late. Also the crew had to do the safety briefing manually because of a glitch in the IFE which had to be reset after takeoff.

We taxied to the active runway 26L and started take off immediately. You know im always amazed by BA's 777 during take offs, they always seem to lift off pretty early compared to other aircraft ive seen, this take off was no different.

As the seat belt sign went off, they crew began the meal service. The choices were chicken, salmon and shepherd's pie(If I heard correctly). I choose the chicken, which was pretty good and the meal included an Apple crumple with vanilla custard and had the choice of white or red wine.

For entertainment I watched The Woman In Black and an episode of Family Guy. Other than that I just left it on the moving map and slept for an hour.
During the flight the crew came around and offered water, various juices, coffee and tea. Around an hour before landing a light pre landing snack was served which consisted of two sandwiches, one Chicken Caesar and the other Savoury cheese, a chocolate bar, some milk( for tea and coffee) and a drink of your choice.

Got into the terminal and Cleared immigration and customs really quickly, then went to check in for my next and final flight of the day to my Island MNI. This flight would be done on SVG air operated by ABM in ANU. Check in was done quickly, though they did make me check my carry on even though they were going to take it from me when boarding the aircraft. Now I did mention this earlier and this is the reason why I prefer to travel with a carry on when flying to MNI and trust me, It's even worse during the Christmas season when people tend to travel with the kitchen sink on the tiny plane.
So after checking in I went straight into the departure lounge and cleared security and immediately went to the upstairs lounge or the former viewing area of ANU (how I miss it so much ) and did some spotting before boarding.

Soon after boarding was called for the flight to MNI, so I packed up my stuff and went straight to the gate. I presented my boarding pass and then walked onto the ramp towards the aircraft passing some LIAT dash 8s on the way.

The Aircraft
I cleared Immigration, picked up my bag and cleared customs and was outside within 7 minutes waiting to be picked up by my mother and sister.
Well here ends my rather long trip report, I know my pics aren't the best but I hope you all enjoy them and the rest of the report I know I did . I always Love flying BA and they always will be my airline of choice. The return to MAN should be done around late August or September so my next report should be around that time. Thanks for reading.

Great trip report 817Dreamliiner! I loved it all, especially all the photos and outstanding detail of your 3 flights. That hop between ANU and MNI is particularly fascinating as you got to sit up front and thus take pictures with the pilot's view!

Very well done. I will admit that due to time constraints I have not been issuing trip reports lately - perhaps it is time to start writing again. As Baje427 said, perhaps there should be more regional trip reports.

Indeed ! Myself sat upfront for a while on an JM flight routing JFK-MBJ way back in 1998 in their A310 and it was quite a memorable experience. Didn't have a digital camera at the time unfortunately though. But it was good when the captain invited me to stay for the approach/landing into Montego Bay.

Looking forward to your return.

Great trip report, 817Dreamliner!!! As a pilot, I can say that seat is one of the best seats on any flight!

V.C. Bird's terminal definitely needs some work! It looks like it hasn't changed much since I passed through there in the 80's on the BWIA runs to JFK! MNI looks much better! lol

I had no idea BA still had 734s! I wonder how old their fleet is...

Thanks! yes VC bird intl needs some work, though the upstairs departure lounge isnt that bad. Regarding BA's 734 fleet they are roughly 21yrs old, my aircraft being delivered in 1992 according to airfleets.

Nice report on both domestic and international with BA.

Gotta love coming into land in the Caribbean - not seeing land until you're fairly low down and well into the descent.

Nice jobs getting the jumpseat on the SVG Air too!
