Hej, hej, dear readers,
I was in good contact with these now defunct airline from Hungaria late last year.
They offered me Duna Gold, what means also One World Sapphire status.
AB upgraded me immediatelly after they joined the One World Alliance also for the same level. But with a time limit later in the year.
You never know, isn´t it?.
And soon after I´ve received a nice offer from these Northern European Airline it seems it´s a good decision to do one or two flights there, to fullfill what they want from me. Mainly to catch a full year more of Sapphire Lounges!.
Really nice contact with the staff confirmed, that they want to upgrade me even before the first flight. Well done and warm welcomed.
Definitely a good impression by the airline here.
Well, one of our real nice A.net colleagues decides to meet me on the way to my place to stay for the night. One more reason to look forward to this trip.
Ok, ok, enough preparations let´s go now.

Service airberlin AB 6833 operated by LGW
Luftfahrtgesellschaft Walter
Scheduled: 08.00 // 09.00
A relaxed start for the travel day, sunday morning 05.00 am, my usual time, definitely!.
One of the advantages by AB gold is the free seat selection anytime after booking, the last row window no question!.
The Lastminute.de guys catched my money this time. Leg 1 and 2 booked together, the fare per leg 60.00 Euro´s this way, ok so far.
Well, OLCI is quick and easy to use by AB´s website, but no, no boarding passes printed, as usual.
No traffic that Sunday morning, how I like it this way.
Close to 07.00 am at the airport, a short visit for the desk to pick up the papers and to check the lounge offers.
Two here now, the Elli Beinhorn place operated by Stuttgart Airport and also the BA lounge want´s to see me for the first time.
No lines at security and shortly thereafter in the gate area.
But at first a quick view to the screen. Not that much action with my service top of the board
The BA lounge is closed, although I´am present around the usual Sunday morning opening time.
But we know how to handle it. The AF and the BA lounges are both staffed by the same company. And the AF guy who, so it seems, recognizes me, call´s his colleague and only seconds thereafter the door is opened for me, as the first and only customer till now today.
Ok this looks like BA old english style
The offers, teabags for me, not available at the AF lounge
More seaters this way
Not that long thereafter, the lounge lady called me and send me down to terminal 3 for a apron bus ride from gate 331. Nothing else expected here with the Dash 8 on schedule.
Always these lounge guy´s!. I´am late, but not to late!.
Ah, yes, this looks like an Dash 8
Confirmed, D-ABQI, leg no. 26 on type and yes, I´am sure, this is something new to me!.
As sure as I am, this is incredible, my fourth time with these bird after STR-MXP//STR-MXP//MXP-STR
Boarding now with an propeller close up
This plane is in service with LGW since 06.08.2009.
10 examples are in the fleet actually.
I prefer late boarding, not that I´ve talked about it before this way!.
And one of the reasons is the chance to change for a good seat. Sometimes also in the very first row, like 1A today
Granted by the nice FA after the captain´s ok.
Warm welcomed with a 80% load.
A totally mixed bag of passengers today, ok it´s Sunday morning!.
Two for me here and not to talk about the generous legroom.
Dark blue leather seats, the cabin is clean so far
Well, 8.00 am, that´s what I call perfectly ontime.
11 rainy and wet degrees here, I´am in immediate need for something else weatherwise.
45 minutes to go for me and "Walter". A short cut help´s us to enter runway "Zero-Seven" quickly.
There is really a safety card available, at least till now
Cockpit crew is from Germany.
The captain with a welcome in a nice style after boarding is completed.
Once more real detailed infos inflight.
Routing is FKB-FRA-DTM at a maximum of 24000 feet.
Forward cabin view
Two young female FA´s working the cabin. One blonde, really nice and also the other, black haired, nice.
Kings and longing, well, a suitable combination
Service is a croissant and free drinks.
An engine inflight, cloudy all the way
3000 meters "Zero-Five-Right" is for sure enough to welcome me at DUS. 09.05 am, short after schedule, 7 cloudy degrees here, shudder.
No terrace visit today.
Not that I especially like these under the wing or close to under the wing shots
The final engine view
By bus around the terminal.
A well timed connection and some quality lounge time, hopefully, till the next flight now.

Service airberlin AB 8924 operated by Germania
Scheduled: 12.50 // 16.10
This place is huge, I´am impressed, definitely
It´s the BA Hugo Junkers lounge
Really well presented offers here
Any meeting needs?
And also some plane tails to view
Close to departure time, it seems I should do some apron views from the gate
Well, special country, special type
Nothing new for my flight from gate B78
Bus boarding here again.
This is the typical Boeing new generation engine
Very close up
Under the wing, you know
Nothing to miss this way
These Germania sticker looks like somewhat outdated
D-AGEN, not that this sounds somewhat well know to me.
Ok, it´s the scheduled 737. Leg no. 35 on type.
The third time for me here after STR-ORY-STR years ago.
In the air since 23.03.1998 with Germania/Hapag Lloyd Express and TuiFly. There are 9 -700´s in the actual fleet and this is the oldest example.
The plane is noted with an medical emergeny close to Riga in 2011 and also later in the year with fumes in the cockpit enroute from MXP to DUS and an therefore incapacitated FO
1.10 pm, 20 minutes late, runway "Zero-Five-Right" again and two hours now for "Germania" heading to the north.
11 degrees, cloudy and light rain, I need something else, definitely!.
I´am addicted to these first rows, so it seems
Legroom is sure ok here at 1F. The cabin fitted with bright grey oldfashioned leather seats.
The aisle is taken, but the middle seat remains open, sure ok with a close to 100% load here
There are lot´s of people with big plastic bags on the plane. It´s the DRUPA exhibition, the major german meeting for the print and packaging industry.
Also good biz for AB.
Cabin crew consists of three female FA´s.
One middle aged, german, ok.
One young and nice eastern european girl
and also one young, blonde and yes, cute german girl!.
The appropriate safety card
The captain today is from Germany the FO from the Netherlands.
A really detailed welcome after boarding is completed.
Heavy traffic around DUS results in a slot delay for us, but nothing serious at all.
He´s inflight on the speakers again, perfectly detailed and also with a very nice bye-bye from the "first row" later on during approach.
Routing is via Rostock, Gdansk and Tallin at maximum 37000 feet.
Not my usual engine view
Hey, the clouds are gone!
Service on AB these days together with free drinks
Forward cabin view
Approaching HEL, maybe something well known to a couple of guys here
Touchdown at the 2901 meters "One-Five", 4.30 pm local, twenty minutes late, 10 degrees and also cloudy, but at least no rain.
White, blue and blue-white on the apon
Which one looks like better?
Docked and service for my machine
At HEL with, once again today, a good time in between the next flight.
Quality lounge time twice, anyone?.
Service AY 649 operated by Finnair
Scheduled: 20.05 // 20.05
Check-in for this leg is done online and who knows really why the boarding pass is printed on my own engine this time?.
Maybe I want to see the Sapphire status on the paper even before the first flight!.
The fare booked by AY directly is sure ok here, 50.00 Euro´s, together with the return next month.
This is the Gateway tower lounge
With offers like this
Or like this
Apron views like this
Or like this
And seating like this
How to try OLCI, non succesfull in the end, for some more flights
AB on the run
Any news for my flight from gate 30?
Not at all and there is one more lounge place to visit here
The Finnair biz lounge with seaters like this
Ok, enough like this!. This place is also spacious
Modern style furniture
And nice offers, too
Something for me, maybe
No, better stay this way
Old colours here
OH-LXB, the scheduled A320 has the honour to confirm AY Sapphire for me
Is 85 legs on type enough to built up a relationship?. Who knows!. And really, this is something new to me.
On the way with AY since 28.05.2001.
11 A320´s are in the fleet actually.
8.00 pm, short ahead to schedule. I should leave this rainy place now. 7 degrees only here.
45 minutes for "Finnair" ARN bound, departure from the 3440 meters "Two-Two-Left".
Rear cabin view
Legroom is good here at 21A. The aisle is taken, but the middle seat remains open once again. The load is 90%
It seems there are mostly swedish people here on the return from a weekend visit to the other side of the Gulf of Bothnia.
Cockpit crew is from Finland.
The pilot with a nice welcome after boarding is completed.
So slowly spoken, it seems we are in Stockholm before he fixed it.
No, he made it and he´s once more on the speakers with nice and detailed infos inflight, the same style.
Routing is south of Turku and Mariehamn at 36000 feet maximum.
The modern style safety card
Impressed by AY, definitely.
Cabin crew is all female today.
Three elder ladies all together ok
and one middle aged, large, slim, long, always smiling, really nice woman. Perfectly finnish?. Not at all with her black hair.
But you know, that´s no problem for me!.
Service is free drinks only.
China, who knows?
Comfy oldfashioned fabric seats in a strange blue, green colour mix
Some blue ahead
Now that looks like an ARN approach
Ferry on the go
Coming in to touchdown at the 2500 meters runway "Two-Six".
7.50 pm, 15 minutes ahead to schedule and truly unbelievable after this short flight.
Sunny, no clouds to see at all and 10 degrees really warm welcomed here.
Docked and bye for now to AY
The Flygbussarna airport coach shuttle service is the way to go now for me. 99.00 SEK booked online.
Friendly colleague Tobbry decided to spend some of his precious Sunday evening time, to pick me up at the bus stop closest to my hotel.
As far as I remember this was Norra Stationsgatan.
It works and so we walked together for my place to stay tonight.
The Best Western Time hotel
Thanx again, Tobbry, for the cellar meeting.
Sure a quality time for me in Stockholm with good aviation related and else talking.
Here´s my room
The bathroom
Nicely furnitured
A short but nevertheless good nights sleep here.
Ready for breakfast
Airy and spacious, that´s what I like
The lobby around the corner
Well designed
Less customers this early morning time
Views from my room at the top floor
All in a really recommendable place with 750.00 SEK B&B only.
So, time to check out and hit the town before heading for the new departure airport.
The Tunnelbana shuttled me to the old town, 36 SEK.
I´am close to sure that this is Stockholm and not Riga
Nobel´s place
Impressive
Guarded
How I like this view
Oldfashioned houses, ok it´s the old town
No, I´am not a military fan
Tough job here
The clocktower
Sure, we know, Stockholm is a waterless city!
Time to go now for me.
A new departure airport ahead and also a less travelled airline and airliner.
Soon to follow here!.
Stop, wait, conclusions!:
AB STR-DUS: Comfy and relaxed.
AB DUS-HEL: Comfy and nice staff.
AY HEL-ARN: Short, calm and supernice staff.
Tack och vi ses snart,
comments welcome,

This was a rather nice TR, but the weather wasn't that nice, just in Stockholm. The Dash ride seems to be good, but maybe the Boeing not so, old poor flying lady. AY seems to be ok, but the service (I meant Food/drinks) is horrible.
All in all, I think it was ok.

Good to find another report online, and congratulations on your status matches. Good for you to fly through HEL and give AY a little business.
Quoting Flieger67 (Thread starter): They offered me Duna Gold, what means also One World Sapphire status.
I thought Duna was easyJet?

That's really, really odd! I never, ever thought Finnair would do it, after all they are so bloody clueless on pretty much every front, especially on the Plus program. Where did they advertise this.
Wow, you must be the first person saying this about Finnair.
Quoting Flieger67 (Thread starter): No question, at least till now, a new departure airport is necessary to catch here, no. 214:
This got me wondering as I didn't see anything new on that map...
Quoting Flieger67 (Thread starter): A new departure airport ahead and also a less travelled airline and airliner.
...until I read this in the end, you tease!
Quoting Flieger67 (Thread starter): But we know how to handle it. The AF and the BA lounges are both staffed by the same company. Quoting Flieger67 (Thread starter): The offers, teabags for me, not available at the AF lounge
Well that figures - the French aren't exactly known as big tea drinkers.
Quoting Flieger67 (Thread starter): As sure as I am, this is incredible, my fourth time with these bird after STR-MXP//STR-MXP//MXP-STR
At least there's no Malpensa there this time!
Quoting Flieger67 (Thread starter): Two for me here and not to talk about the generous legroom.
Do you really find that bulkhead seat comfortable? It looks like that the curvature of the fuselage and no possibility for stretching your legs could be quite uncomfortable.
Quoting Flieger67 (Thread starter): 11 rainy and wet degrees here, I´am in immediate need for something else weatherwise.
Well you are heading to the wrong direction for that, mate!
Quoting Flieger67 (Thread starter): There are lot´s of people with big plastic bags on the plane. It´s the DRUPA exhibition, the major german meeting for the print and packaging industry.
Are you sure? Sounds more like Finns stocking up on the cheap German booze at Travel Value to me!
Quoting Flieger67 (Thread starter): He´s inflight on the speakers again, perfectly detailed and also with a very nice bye-bye from the "first row" later on during approach.
Quoting Flieger67 (Thread starter): The fare booked by AY directly is sure ok here, 50.00 Euro´s, together with the return next month.
These el cheapo fares on this route are quite popular with certain people hunting for Platinum status... . I know someone who did 40 or so roundtrips this spring .
Ok, I give you this, thanks to its location on the corner under the ATC Tower (hence the name) it has excellent apron views on two directions. But then again the AY lounge next door has almost the same.
Quoting Flieger67 (Thread starter): How to try OLCI, non succesfull in the end, for some more flights
Actually it is not a business lounge as only OW status passengers are admitted, a business class ticket won't get you in! And it is called the Silver Wings lounge. It is an okay lounge, my pet peeve is the crap alcohol selection and the fact that at least on old times it used to get very very packed at peak times (workday afternoons, especially on Fridays) - I've been there a few times when it's been standing room only.
Quoting Flieger67 (Thread starter): Comfy oldfashioned fabric seats in a strange blue, green colour mix
"Old fashioned" ? What are you talking about? These are the new AY seats. Sure, they aren't as thin as the latest Recaro ones found in the LH Group NEK cabins for example, but for old fashioned (and very, very comfortable) seats, catch an AY A319!
Quoting Flieger67 (Thread starter): Sunny, no clouds to see at all and 10 degrees really warm welcomed here.
See, things are always better in Sweden! More boring, but better.
Never heard of this one before. But looks very nice and stylish.
Quoting Flieger67 (Thread starter): All in a really recommendable place with 750.00 SEK B&B only.
I was about to ask how much did you pay for it but luckily you mentioned it yourself. That's quite a nice deal for Sweden and especially STHLM, where hotels as a rule of thumb are always very expensive.

Stockholm looks beautiful too, especially with that lovely clear sky.

At least you didn't get water from the skies as I did on my visit Anyway nice pictures from Stockholm, quite a few familiar things for me. Indeed a great city.

Quoting CaptainRed (Reply 13):
good to read another story of your travels and congrats of course for that Sapphire status. And an interesting routing you choose to get from STR to ARN, well done.
Thank you.

Hej, my friend Markus,
Thank you for sharing this enjoyable morning read. I especially like your covering of the old town.
Quoting FLIEGER67 (Thread starter): They offered me Duna Gold, what means also One World Sapphire status.
What a nice souvenir from a lost friend!
Quoting FLIEGER67 (Reply 1): And the AF guy who, so it seems, recognizes me, call´s his colleague and only seconds thereafter the door is opened for me, as the first and only customer till now today.
Quoting FLIEGER67 (Reply 1): Not that long thereafter, the lounge lady called me

Hi Markus ,
Another nice report from you . Nice AB are matching your Duna card. You were so unfortunate with MA going to the wall. That must have been annoying . Good news is you are back on track again .
Nice to see AB reports , as you know I recently got AB Gold and am looking forward to taking a flight with them sometime soon .
AY also on my list as I have never flown them .
Looking forward to the next report.
Regards
Philip

I´ve read about it.

Luckily, no incident on your flight.
Lucky me.
Quoting akhmad (Reply 15):
This lounge somehow more appeals to me.
Not a bad place.
Quoting akhmad (Reply 15): Well appointed room, nice breakfast and good price. What else could you ask for a stay in Stockholm?
Exactly my way, you know.

Nice report as usual. Decent flights with AB so it seems. And Stockholm is a great city, I love it there!
Quoting FLIEGER67 (Thread starter): They offered me Duna Gold, what means also One World Sapphire status.
AB upgraded me immediatelly after they joined the One World Alliance also for the same level. But with a time limit later in the year.
So AB offered you that status after Malev went bankrupt? Or already before?

Hi Markus
great report, thanks for sharing!
Nice too see D-AGEN in the log, I flew her between STR and TXL. A good flight on it indeed, it left a very good impression of AB.
Nice to have some Stockholm pics as well, I've only been there after sunset

Hi Markus, finally playing catch-up on reports!
Quoting FLIEGER67 (Thread starter): I was in good contact with these now defunct airline from Hungaria late last year.

Hehe, I usually do that too. Even though I'm not really a saver of my boarding passes I prefer to have a proper boarding pass over a printed A4 one.
