Reason for trip
This time I am off for another product launch and meeting all the way in the Canary Islands or Gran Canaria as many Europeans called it. My route will be as follows:

Jakarta to HongKong with Garuda in J
HongKong to Milan with CX in F
Milan to Gran Canaria with IB in J
Gran Canaria to Milan with IB in J
Milan to HongKong with CX in F
HongKong to Jakarta with CX in J

I will actually split this TR in 2 as my final sector with CX in J from HKG to CGK was operated by CX’s new A333 with all new J seats, so I guess that warrants its on TR.

Enjoy!

Date: 31 Mar 2012
Route: Jakarta (CGK) - HongKong (HKG)
Flight: Garuda GA860
ETD: 0950 (1000)
ETA: 1550
Seat: 1A (Executive Class)
Aircraft: A330-200
Flight time: 4hrs17mins
Registration: PK-GPN
1st Flight: 11 Nov 2011

Preflight
The day before was a crazy day in Jakarta with massive protests over a parliamentary vote over an increase in subsidized fuel prices. But the joy that spilled over to today was that traffic was almost non existant as the general population refrained from going out. Arrived at CGK an hour before ETD. After formalities were completed, I just spent my time in the lounge till boarding was called.
Inflight
Nice to be onboard GA's A332 to HKG again and like I said before, of all offerings from Jakarta to HKG or actually any regional destination, GA is now my pick. This aircraft has the slightly upgraded and more comfortable full flat J seats (the other long haul J is also full flat, but the updated ones by BE Aerospace are much better.

Pushback & Tarmac scenes

Long line for take off, also notice MH’s new B738 and CS, these birds have Boeing’s new sky interior

Crew were polite and great from the moment we boarded the aircraft. Aircraft was about 65% full in both classes. 30 mins after take off, the meals were served, and although there weren't much to look at, they actually tasted really good.
Meal time

Overall another great flight with GA and not disappointed one bit.

Farewell PK-GPN, Bet I will see you very soon on my next travels

Date: 02 April 2012
Route: Hong Kong (HKG) - Milan (MXP)
Flight: Cathay Pacific CX233
ETD: 0100 (0053)
ETA: 0750 (0815)

Aircraft: B777-300ER
Flight time: 13hrs 03mins

Preflight
After a fantastic 2 day stay in Hong Kong, its now time to get into our long hauler to Milan. Took the airport express train and arrived at HKIA 2hrs before ETD. Once formalities were cleared, it was a mad rush to find a duty free store that was open to get my cigarettes.
Most shops were already closed at this time of the night

Once I managed to get them, I could not bother going to the lounge as The Wing was under repair and The Pier was too far away from the get, so it was just a slow walk to the gate and we didn't have to wait long before boarding commenced.

Our bird taking us to Milan

Yup, I am in the correct gate

Inflight
Full load in all classes to MXP. Crew were great and helpful from the moment we boarded the aircraft. Flight is commanded by Captain Chris Cherry.
My favorite confines of CX Suites on the B773ER

One of the best out there, CX’s AVOD system

After take off, meal service began and I must say the main course was just delicious.
Meal time

Managed to catch a few shows on my iPad before I said hello to Lala land! Woke up with about 2 hrs till ETA and after freshening up, breakfast was served.
Good morning!

Busy skies over Western Europe

Soon enough we were on final approach to MXP. All in all another great flight by CX.

Date: 03 April 2012
Route: Milan Linate (LIN) - Madrid (MAD)
Flight: Iberia IB3629
ETD: 0705 (0750)
ETA: 0930 (1015)
Seat: 1A (Business Class)
Aircraft: A321
Flight time: 2hrs 10mins
Registration: EC-JGS
1st Flight: 12 Apr 2005

Arrived at Linate with 1 hour to spare.

Once formalities were completed it was straight to the gate where we were bussed to the aircraft. Full load in both classes. Linate wins hands down on location from city centre but the facility itself is over crowded and definitely showing its age.

After we got on the bus we were further delayed and by the time we boarded the aircraft, Captain got on the PA that due to air control in France being on strike, they had to take a longer route and thus take on more fuel too, but surprisingly it will be a shorter flight time. Guess the pilots are really going to gun the engines! Everything else regarding the flight went through smoothly and it was a fairly good flight and a good crew with IB.

Route: Madrid (MAD) - Las Palmas (LPA)
Flight: Iberia IB 804
ETD: 1210 (1250)
ETA: 1400 (1433)
Seat: 1A (Business Class)
Aircraft: A320
Flight time: 2hrs 25mins
Registration: EC-HDK
1st Flight: 16 Sep 1999

By the time we arrived in MAD and got to our actual departure terminal it was only a few minutes to boarding. Everything was done properly by the air crew and ground crew. But besides that, nothing much to talk about in terms of service, its just another one of your run of the mill business class flight in Europe.

Seat: 4F (Business Class)
Aircraft: A321
Flight time: 2hrs 40mins
Registration: EC-ILO
1st Flight: 8 Feb 2002

After the end of the event, we had a dreadful 0430 pick up to the airport. Arrived at 0510. After formalities were completed we just browsed the duty free shops till boarding began. A totally full flight in all classes. Flight itself was uneventful and crew service was above average.

Flight: Iberia IB3636

Seat: 5C (Business Class)
Aircraft: A320
Flight time: 2hrs 03 mins
Registration: EC-IZR
1st Flight: 22 Jul 2004

After arriving from LPA, we had about an hour before boarding. Managed to grab a bite at McDonalds before slowly walking to the gate which was situated at the end of the terminal. Y was full as usual and 3 empty seats in J. Onward to Milan

Date: 06 April 2012
Route: Milan (MXP) - HongKong (HKG)
Flight: Cathy Pacific CX234
ETD: 1320 (1314)
ETA: 0650+1 (0633)
Seat: 1K (First Class)
Aircraft: B777-300ER
Flight time: 11hrs 21mins
Registration: B-KPP
1st Flight: 19 Jan 2010

Preflight
Arrived at MXP with almost 3 hours to spare. Although check in took less than 2mins, the whole VAT refund process took more than an hour. By the time we got past security and immigration we had about 1.5hrs to go. Spent some time browsing duty free before we headed to the BA Lounge which CX uses in MXP.

And the best part of this lounge is that it also has a smoking room.

And onward to HKG

Inflight
Once onboard, crew already knew us by name and its really nice to be jn the confines of CX first again.

Goodbye Milan

Light load today due to it being Good Friday. F only has 3 of us, and J was 30% full and Y about 40% full. After take off, the cabin crew sprung into action and meal service began.

And after meal service, my wife decided to go to bed almost immediately

Managed to actually sleep through the whole flight, and when I woke up, it was already time to have breakfast

Good report!

It looks like you had some nice flights with CX and IB. Service looks good on all flights - I've never seen an IB J class service on this forum for a short intro-european flight. It was interesting to see some photos!

Thanks for sharing!

Luv Luv Luv.....wondering where have you been but then I'm sure you are super busy working and traveling

Neat products on CX First class. Park Hyatt Milan is amazing!!

The TAX refund is always pain in the ***! It's so difficult to get money back from them lol

I can't wait for your trip report once TG roll out it new mini Suite on Boeing 747-400 HS-TGY.
Dateline is now 1st AUG for FRA TG920/921 and this is due to the last minute modification of the F class suite.
I've heard that there are a few problems here and there....

Many thanks for sharing your amazing trip across the globe, always.

Hi Net, so do you mean TG will put in the same mini suite as on their A380 on the B744 too?

Great report TGA345

One question on Garuda, those seats look the same as what i saw on their A333 (but they were angled). So i assume these here are full flat? What happened to the slightly older generation full flats on some A332s?

Good to see you flying CX as always! But it seems your TG/MH flying has dramatically been on the decline!

Thanks for sharing this with us!

Cheers,
Roni

Hi Roni!!!! Thanks for reading, liek mentioned on my reports, GA now has 2 different type of seats on their A332 and A333 fleet. THe A332 has 2 types of J seats, and both of them are 100% full flat. However, on the retrofitted A333 J seats, these are angled.

Don't worry, still keeping my miles on TG and still maintaining platinum status with Royal Orchid plus, will actually have a long hauler with them in Sep to CDG, then to Cologne, and then guess what, I am heading down to Abu Dhabi with LH F from FRA, and coming out of DXB on EK F on the A380 to KUL. so lets meet up!, Sam knows I am coming down too.

Great report. Loved the level of luxury on all the photos. I could really feel it myself. And it always a good indication of seat quality and crew behavior if you can sleep the whole flight without waking up.

Keep on posting, I prefer to read the C/J/F reports here.

Nice report and pix as usual, thanks for sharing.

GA look good as they always seem to now, the sooner they join an alliance the better, I expect it to be ST out of the three.

CX looks excellent as always, yet to fly them but might do so in November.

IB, well not to bad for these sectors by the looks of it.

Cheers
