This flight covers the last segment of my ultra long haul journey, I posted this last leg from Hong Kong to Jakarta separately as it features CX all new long haul J product on the A333. The first part of the trip report on all the long haul flights can be found here:
Date: 06 April 2012
Route: Hong Kong (HKG) - Jakarta (CGK)
Flight: Cathay Pacific CX777
ETD: 0920
ETA: 1320
Seat: 14A (Business Class)
Aircraft: A330-300
Flight time: 4hrs 25mins
Registration: B-LAN
1st Flight: 24 Feb 2012
Preflight
After arrival from MXP, we did some shopping in duty free before taking a nice hot shower in the Pier First Class Lounge. After that we headed straight to the gate. And to my surprise, it’s a new bird with new J seats!
Inflight
Once onboard it was a nice surprise that this A333 has the new J seats equipped. This seat is definitely a huge leap forward from the herringbone design. With my big size I am comfortable and find it airy and spacious.
Crossroads at a very busy HKIA
Although SQ's J seat are much wider, this CX new J seat is not far behind SQ's. J and Y are about 50% full. Service was quick, efficient and polite as usual.
After take off, its off to the lavatory for more pics
More cabin pics
Safety Card
Mealtime
Overall it was a great flight in CX’s new J, and it was a nice surprise for me to get on this bird on the last short haul leg home. Thank you CX.
Thanks for reading guys, below are my TR from newest to oldest:

I'm curious to know if you tried out the new seat in the full flat position, and if so did you find it comfortable?
I did JFK-HKG-KUL-HKG-JFK in June, the JFK-HKG and KUL-HKG legs were 'coffin class', while the HKG-JFK leg was new biz class. The difference in the ambience and storage with the new one is massive, and having a window seat that actually faces the window is a massive plus, but I found the coffin more comfortable in the sleeping position even though it is narrower.

Hi Thaia345
Thanks for adding the last part of your recent Euro trip. Always a pleasure to read your reports.
The new Cathay Business Class cabin looks excellent. There's an interesting trend for many of the larger carriers to further reduce the number of seats per row in Business Class, thereby offering a hard product that more closely resembles a First class product.
You seem to have a lot of privacy in the new seat.

Thanks for the report - always good to hear from our resident First Class reporter! The difference between the 2 seats is indeed incredible. I love the little touch of the headset having a neat compartment!

Actually did go full flat, and funny enough, I do agree with you the coffins were more comfortable in the full flat !

Hi William, privacy wise is it really good, and the new seat also give a great sense of space, not only when you are in the seat, but the entire cabin itself.

Hi A, the little headrest compartment is really cool, but like I mentioned earlier to ZaphodB, the older herringbone ones were nicer to sleep in the full flat position, however, the new seats wins on all other areas. Actually the best sleep I ever had in J was on Air NZ's herringbone J seats, and also of course on SQ's Raffles Class on the B773Er and A380

Nice to see the new C. I was about to book a seat on the MXP-HKG 77W flight with these seats until I found a deal with AZ for £71 return to NRT! They looks pretty good, a lot more spacious than the old style ones. What's up with the CPA flight number....no longer CX?

Maybe they thought CPA meaning cathay pacific airways sounds nicer hahahaha, but on all other handsets on other aircraft it has always been CX, only this one.....very wierd indeed.

- This is a vast improvement over the old seats, I still wonder how they got it so wrong before.

for me the issue with the new seat in the full flat position is that the footrest is a couple of inches lower than the seat or the (raised) legrest. In the coffin the footrest is the lined up with the rest of the seat in full flat mode. I slept like the dead
Seems like that would be an easy mistake to rectify but hard to understand how or even why they made it.

Hi Mark, yes its a vast improvement indeed, but, the older seats were more comfortable to sleep in the full flat position though

Actually for me I find the middle section a little too high, so its like the back rest is lower than the middle part too

You are kidding me right?? I am about to fly on the new CX biz class tomorrow from MXP-HKG and then from HKG-SIN. I liked the old herringbone seat, so never understood the complaints. However now I am a bit miffed to hear that the new seats are not as comfortable...Do you think putting a second duvet as a "mattress" will help? So the seat is not fully flat and has bumps or how is it less comfortable?
Quoting thaia345 (Reply 9): Actually for me I find the middle section a little too high, so its like the back rest is lower than the middle part too
I am hoping a second duvet might do the trick to solve this. I still can't believe the seat is less comfortable to sleep in. Sleep is the most important thing with C class...Anyway will fly tomorrow on it and see how it is.
Thanks for the great report! As usual it is another great one!!!

I think a lot of the complaints were about the look, and not specific to CX but to coffins in general.
I think the herringbone layout looks terrible ... like a cattle pen, even more so in the 1-1-1 layout on the 330/340 with the "wall" along the K-side aisle. The new layout looks and feels like a first class cabin, especially the mini-cabin behind F on the 77W. Utility wise it is pretty much faultless- there are a lot of great touches. I just didn't find it that comfortable to sleep on - not only compared to the coffins but also compared to CW on BA.

Somehow on any lie flats in J, i always find the main problem to be the padding on the cushions, I dont know why but I am just never comfortable on them. And why do they have to make the pillows so soft that they dont give any support to our head and neck

Hi
Great report, thanks for sharing.
The new longhaul Business class looks great. Better than the old herringbone seating.
CX's seat does look more advanced than the Delta and US Airways version of course
