Before heading to the check-in counter, I decided to do some spotting at HKG:

Welcome aboard:

After boarding, the purser introduced herself as well as the two first class flight attendants. The head first class flight attendant welcomed me aboard and asked me what I would like to drink before departure. I replied Krug of course. She returned promptly and served the champagne, along with a hot towel.
http://i1155.photobucket.com/albums/p559/LANEXPRESS/CATHAY840/DSC02029.jpg

She then distributed the amenity kit and Cathay’s Shanghai Tang pajamas.

Once we had leveled off, the first class flight attendants distributed the menus and wine list:

The head first class flight attendant then asked me what I wanted to drink and returned with my request with an assortment of nuts. She then asked me if I was ready to place my meal order.
http://i1155.photobucket.com/albums/p559/LANEXPRESS/CATHAY840/DSC02057.jpg

Time for an early supper. On Cathay, first class passengers can choose whenever they want to eat and whatever meal service they would like to eat.
http://i1155.photobucket.com/albums/p559/LANEXPRESS/CATHAY840/DSC02062.jpg
For starters, caviar and salmon:
http://i1155.photobucket.com/albums/p559/LANEXPRESS/CATHAY840/DSC02065.jpg
http://i1155.photobucket.com/albums/p559/LANEXPRESS/CATHAY840/DSC02063.jpg
Soup:
http://i1155.photobucket.com/albums/p559/LANEXPRESS/CATHAY840/DSC02074.jpg
For the main course, I opted for the steamed sea bass, which was quite good.

http://i1155.photobucket.com/albums/p559/LANEXPRESS/CATHAY840/DSC02090.jpg
Nice dessert:
http://i1155.photobucket.com/albums/p559/LANEXPRESS/CATHAY840/DSC02091.jpg

After the meal service, I had a latte, which was served with pralines.

http://i1155.photobucket.com/albums/p559/LANEXPRESS/CATHAY840/DSC02108.jpg

The first lavatories were kept fresh throughout the flight. There are also toiletries such as a facial wash, lotions, etc.

http://i1155.photobucket.com/albums/p559/LANEXPRESS/CATHAY840/DSC02147.jpg

After a restful sleep, it was time for breakfast. I opted for a smoothie with fresh fruit and dim sum:

Cathay offers a great selection of teas aboard.
http://i1155.photobucket.com/albums/p559/LANEXPRESS/CATHAY840/DSC02135.jpg

Over 5 hours until landing at JFK:
http://i1155.photobucket.com/albums/p559/LANEXPRESS/CATHAY840/DSC02123.jpg
http://i1155.photobucket.com/albums/p559/LANEXPRESS/CATHAY840/DSC02122.jpg

http://i1155.photobucket.com/albums/p559/LANEXPRESS/CATHAY840/DSC02143.jpg

After breakfast was served, I decided to do some reading and watched a movie.
Less than three hours until landing at JFK:
http://i1155.photobucket.com/albums/p559/LANEXPRESS/CATHAY840/DSC02163.jpg

As we were getting closer to JFK, I decided to have a snack:
http://i1155.photobucket.com/albums/p559/LANEXPRESS/CATHAY840/DSC02187.jpg
http://i1155.photobucket.com/albums/p559/LANEXPRESS/CATHAY840/DSC02189.jpg

Afterwards, the purser asked me if I was interested in filling out a survey about the flight. She also gave me a deck of cards and a stationary kit.
http://i1155.photobucket.com/albums/p559/LANEXPRESS/CATHAY840/DSC02079.jpg
http://i1155.photobucket.com/albums/p559/LANEXPRESS/CATHAY840/DSC02193.jpg

She graciously accepted my completed survey and gave me a voucher for the duty free. So I purchased a box of chocolates:
http://i1155.photobucket.com/albums/p559/LANEXPRESS/CATHAY840/DSC02203.jpg

I then decided to have a few “Cloud Nines”; which is a signature Cathay Pacific drink.
http://i1155.photobucket.com/albums/p559/LANEXPRESS/CATHAY840/DSC02194.jpg
http://i1155.photobucket.com/albums/p559/LANEXPRESS/CATHAY840/DSC02195.jpg

Initial descent:
http://i1155.photobucket.com/albums/p559/LANEXPRESS/CATHAY840/DSC02199.jpg
On final descent into JFK:

http://i1155.photobucket.com/albums/p559/LANEXPRESS/CATHAY840/DSC02229.jpg

http://i1155.photobucket.com/albums/p559/LANEXPRESS/CATHAY840/DSC02230.jpg

Overall, the service onboard was very good and the flight attendants were very professional and attentive throughout the flight. The meal options were adequate and the portions were just the right size. Also, the beverage selection was adequate. However, CX should increase the choices of wines available in First. Having flown CX F many times, the service was consistent and I will continue to choose CX F on my future trips to HKG.

SCL767

SCL,

Great trip report, and great pics too.
Wonderful for those of us who dream of flying one of the great airline's first classes long haul one day!

Just the right amount of text too - Personally, I don't need to read about every single conversation / action between the pax and the check-in staff, flight attendant, ground crew, pax sitting next to them etc. Pictures tell 1000 words and yours say everything that's needed to say regarding the flight.

Glad you enjoyed the flight.

Thai744 - totally agree. You speak my mind about no need to describe every single conversation spoken.

I don't really need to read about people judging crew's attitude.
Sometimes it's more of a mirror, the attitude you give them at first, reflects back to who you are.

Amazing F class products delivery on Cathay. Thank you for sharing this amazing trip report.
Btw, it's always tacky when F/As give out questionaire form to airlines geeks together with all the freebies lol

Let's just blame it on yields.

Thanks Thai744. The CX First product on long-haul is very good and makes long-haul flying both relaxing and enjoyable.

I thoroughly enjoyed this trip report. Thank you! The pictures told the whole story, and for once I did not have to read through a bunch of "code" that I never understand. (I can't be the only one who doesn't understand all of the abbreviations that people use).

This first class service looks so incredibly nice. I am very much not a fan of seafood, so I would have made very different selections. But it all looked well-cooked and presented. What a fantastic airline. And that rear camera shot where you can see the vapor coming out of both engines---that's cool!

Great report! CX F looks fantastic as usual - what a long flight from HKG-JFK! I always find it interesting how when you fly to Europe from the US, it always seems like a long flight, yet you would be only mid-way through the flight if you were flying to and from Asia after 6 hours ...

Thanks for sharing!

Excellent trip report. I especially enjoyed the takeoff video in HKG. I have flown CX many times, but only in economy class. Even there, the service rivals the first class service on many airlines.

Thanks. Yes, the meals were good; as well as the variety of choices available. I enjoyed the main course of the dinner service. Also, CX has an inflight rice cooker in the first galley so the rice was cooked onboard the a/c.

Thanks. CX F on ultra long haul is really great in my experiences flying on CX. Since the flight was so long, I was able to get a restful sleep; which makes the flight enjoyable given the long flight time.

It was actually quite difficult to capture the wing in the video since I was seated in 1A.

Hola Marc,
Thanks. Indeed, the seat turns into an 81-inch-long flat bed "suite". As soon as I was ready to get some sleep, the first class attendant turned my seat into a "suite" and fitted it with a pillow, duvet and blanket. When I woke up, she then made up my "suite".

More information is available on CX's website:
