hello all again ! greetings from Malaysia Airlines' Golden Club loungue at KUL in the satellite terminal... as always, this is a wonderful lounge and one of the world's biggest! this is the first quarter of my report hope it is good...

In 1:30 hours time i shall be boarding an A330-322 to Seoul Inch(e)on. I will keep you informed of my trip...

As I am living in Penang, my dad and his chauffeur drove us down to Kuala Lumpur which is around 350km from my house... We crossed the Penang bridge (longest in south east asia and one of the longest in Asia) which is 13.9km in length... on the North-South Expressway we accelerated down at average speed of 170km/h and top speed of 185km/h... we have made it to Kuala Lumpur International Airport all within 2:45 hours!

On the way the road signs reminded me that Subang airport will be operating one of its last flights now...

When approaching the airport the airport is visible on the highway towards KLIA and the control tower was also visible...

When unloading our luggages from our car, I saw a MH B737 taxiing nearby and damn i thought it was louder than usual but i was only like 400m from it... and then a B744 of MH took off and that was VERY loud it was very close to me...

At the check-in counter, the MAS staff was polite and checked our luggages all the way to LAX. After that we went to the ticket counter to issue a domestic ticket on C class for KUL-PEN when we return and it was considered a night tourist fare since the flight departs at around midnight... it was RM169. US$1=RM3.8.. you calculate!

We proceeded to the satellite terminal and on the train i saw quite a few aircraft including Iran Air B747(SP or -100 or -200, i couldnt see becos it was dark), Qatar Airways A300 in white livery!!?!?!??! Thai Airways A300 and lots of other MAS planes...

The lounge is awesome with warm hospitaliy... I will continue when i am in seoul!

We boarded at Gate A10 so we had to get back to the terminal using the train. After waiting for a while First and Business class passengers were allowed to board... Upon boarding we received warm welcome from the cabin staff and one of them even came to us and chat for while and told us that the are 4 pax in First, 25 in Busines and 179 in Economy... almost full! Good for MAS...

We pushed back from gate at 01:05, 5 minutes ahead of schedule but took us 2-3 minutes to spool the engines up and taxi. we were taxiing behind a MAS B777 bound for Europe... After take-off we were served 'satay' which was pretty good. There was 2 or 3 Korean girls as cabin staff and damn! they are soooooo gorgeoues!!! hehe... They played us some movies on the big screen and some CNN live news ... it was nothing special and they did have some good music channels... after that i went to sleep... seat pitch on C isnt great though, not as good as those on MH B777 or B744. Recline was limited. The Airbus 330 was registered 9M-MKI.

After that I listened to some radio, look out, check out the mags and stole some safety cards... hehe... I went to sleep after that... i didnt sleep very well though and damn the air-conditoner was good! i was kinda freezing...

finish it up soon... g2g shower...

ok i am back. now like everyone said, they would 'test' how good the inflight service is by pressing the button calling for service in mid-night and see how long it takes until an attendant comes.. so i did it and that gorgeous Korean girl came in a matter of seconds.... and i asked for a drink...

after that i went back to sleep again so when i woke up an hour later i realized that one of them had put up my blanket for me and pulled down the window slide... I thought this was really good service and no wonder they won the award from Skytrax!

I couldnt sleep then I just looked out and listened to music at this point we had 3 hours or more of flying time but I thought since I was going to have a long sunday ( I am crossing the international date line later and I will arrive in LA on the same day so on the KE flight i could get some sleep).. Not much of scenery but there was turbulent almost 80% of the flight but nothing severe so i enjoyed it... the A330, like in past experience, was very very quiet!

As we approached Incheon, i noticed that I were flying above sea and quite high and took quite a while until slats were set and later full flaps and landing gears and some turning then we started to pitch down and not far from runway we did a high nose up pitch approach and it was a very nice flare! i think it was almost 10 degrees nose up at touchdown but it certainly was my smoothest landing ever! little reversers were used and some brakes.. we taxiied very slowly to the gate and saw lots of KE and OZ aircraft... and i saw an OX B747 from BKK as well... two UA B744 and one NW B742...

and now i am in the prestige class lounge in Incheon, it was much better than MAS' lounge in KUL except the food.... and i mean EVERYTHING! except also from the fact that their english is poor and they couldnt understand that Enrich is a partner of Skypass until end of today I can still accumulate points!

the korean girls were again very helpful! oh yeh and one more thing the shower and washrooms are very small!! Next flight KE017 to LAX... will write another report...

I have always wondered why doesn't MAS do something to the A330s? Why can't they configure that beautiful aircraft to the the likes of the 772 and 744? I have flown F Class on the A330 and when I looked back into C Class, I was aghast to see the kind of leg room they have to endure! And they pay the same price for those on board the 772 and 744!!!! But so much difference!

F Class is seriously outdated as well with no PTVs and adjustable headrests and all. The seats in C Class don't look that much different from F. How did you like the seat, comfy?

I used to think they leave the A330 as such because they only use it on regional routes. Then I saw in thier timetable that the A330 flies to destinations as far as Istanbul and Brisbane, to Johannesburg and Seoul! Doesn't this call for some serious re-furbishment of the F and J cabins? Hell, all the cabins! It would be nice of they had the same seats as the 772 and 744s.

So the mystery is solved, MAS does indeed employ foreign stewardesses. Glad to hear that their cabin service remains top-notch. I love the Golden Lounge in KLIA, it is really the largest in the world.

MAS has indeed tried to cut down on the kind of things they issue in an amenities kit. When I flew them to SYD, I received aroma therapy kits (so many baby bottles of cream for relaxation...) on top of the bag full of toothpaste, moisturisers, eye shades... and I even received an organiser cum calculator at the end of the flight!!! That was in Dec 2000.

When I flew Golden Club to BNE again in Oct 2001, I received a nice dark blue zip up box of moisturiser, face spray, comb, shaver, cologne (the usual blahs) and that was it. There were no gifts for the pax. Not that I cared because I do not use the gifts anyway! But the amenities kits are useful and I am still using them now for gym. Fits nicely into my gym knapsack. The aroma therapy kit is still with me as well! That proved to be useful too...

Looks like cost cutting are the words of the day especially when the airline is not doing that well financially.
