Fri. ; 28th of June:

Step one: VIENNA - MUNICH (OS):

I got at Vienna Schwechat Airport around 11:00am. I walked through the main terminal to the Austrian Airlines counters , where I checked-in for my 13:00pm flight to Munich,Germany. At the Eco. counters were only a couple of people at this time so it took me only about 10 minutes for getting my boarding pass for flight OS-103 ( LH-6481 ) to MUC. I got seat D 10 in the MD-87 from Austrian Airlines [ OE-LMK ].

I have had quite a couple of time before my flight was ready for boarding and so I decided to walk through the safety control and wait in the departure area for getting on my plane. My plane was on gate C 62 and when it was nearly 12:30pm , the dep. area was quite full of people. Most of them were children with their parents.
12:45pm ; " Austrian Airlines flight 103 to Munich is now ready for boarding at gate C 62 " , a voice said over the loudspeaker and so I got into the queque of people , wich was formed in front of our gate. By the door from our plane , a flight attendant was standing and welcomed the passengers on board.

We were a little bit late , when our plane was pushed back on the apron and around 13:06pm we lined up at Runway 29 as # two for departure.
While the Tyrolean Airways CRJ-100 was taking off in front of us , the f/a. showed the safety rules to the passengers. At 13:11pm the two engines roared and we rotated away from Rwy. 29. We climbed at our main flight level for our 1 hour trip to MUC.
The f/a.´s were only serving soft drinks and coffee or tea in Eco. on this short jump to Southern Germany. We have had wonderful weather during our flight and when we apporoached Munich , we were a few minutes less. After a smooth landing we taxied to the Terminal 1 and I left the plane around 14:07pm. I haven´t had bags and so I was very quick at the Check-In counters in the Terminal area C , where the EK conters had already opened.
I was standing behind a couple of people at the Business Class counter and around 14:25pm I have had already got my boarding pass for flight EK-052 to Dubai, United Arab Emirates. Actual departure time was 15:45pm and so I had a couple of time free for exploring the Airport Center and the brandnew Terminal 2 a little bit. When I took a look at my watch I was shocked. The time was 15:35pm and so I hurried through the Safety control and to my Gate.
I was the last passenger who boarded the EK-Airbus A 330-243 [A6-EAD , del. 26th Jan. 01 ].

The flight attendant closed the first door after me and showed me my seat K 06. The business class wasn´t so full and so , how lucky I was, nobody was sitting next to me. While our plane was pushed back from our gate , the f/a showed safety rules and emergency exits and all this normal things.

Step two; MUNICH - DUBAI (EK) :

we taxied to the take off runway and arond 15:57pm we lift off from the runway and climbed up into the german sky. During our plane climbed highter and higher the f/a´s gave every pax in the Business class a card with the menu for the 1st meal.
You could choose between:

* Honey roasted Chinese duck placed on cellery and pineapple salat with citrus dressing.

* Marinated Asian sea food; scallops , tiger prawns and poached salmon drizzled with oriental dressing.

* Thay chicken with curry sauce , beans and rice.

* * * * * *

* Seasonal salad with a choice of caesar dressing or olive oil.

* * * * * *

* Chocolate and orange mousse cake

* Pear strudel served hot with vanillia souce.

* * * * * *

* Cheese

* Fruits

I can tell you. EXCELLENT !!!! Big grin

When we´d flew over the transmediterean sea , this big meal was served and I´d finished it somewhere over Egypt. After such a dinner the best thing you can do is of course , sleeping.
I did my comfortable seat back into sleeping position and felt asleep after a few minutes.
Hours later...

A noise was taking me out of my dreams. I rubbed my eyes , looked out of the window and recognized , that we were already apporoaching DXB.
I put my seat up and waited , until we touched down on a very hot day in Dubai. We taxied to our gate and the pilot waved us good bye , when we got out of the plane into a very comfortable Terminal.

For everyone , who´s flying to the far east , I can say: Fly Emirates !! they´re great.

I hope you´ve enjoyed my report.

Good bye , spotterb.

For a flight originating from Europe, I must say that I am surprised the choices for food on board EK was limited to Asian cuisine only! What happened to a western option for a non-adventurous Caucasian?

Nevertheless, I salivated a bit when I was reading through the menu that you presented.  Smile

Cheers
Ryan

Hi man.

I´d don´t know why they served no European Food.
But when I´d look back to my trip, the Asian menu was sooooo great , that I needn´t European food.

Thanks for reading my report,

spotterb.

Interesting report!

BTW - when I flew LHR-DXB-BKK on EK a couple of years back they served 2 main meals on both the LHR-DXB leg and the DXB-BKK leg (even though both flights were only around 7 hours long). This meant 4 meals in around 14 hours. I am intrigued that they only served one meal on your flight - maybe EK policy has changed?

I used to think the brain is the most fascinating part of my body. But, hey, who is telling me that?

Great Report! I agree, the food on EK is excellent, not that everything else isn't!!!  Smile/happy/getting dizzy

Ryanair, I have had a western dish once on a flight from FRA. It was fantastic, though I find the Asian meals to be even better!

Asian choices are traditionally better tasting 30000ft up in the air, for some reason! Even on NWA, I had a delicious meal of Indonesian Beef Curry with Rice flying out of Detroit to Narita! Exquisite...

Maybe its the pungent spices because apparently the taste buds become numb up in the air... so the only thing the tongue can sense is the pungent spice?

To answer your question EK still serves a main meal and a snack before arrival, but only between the UK(BHX,LHR,LGW,MAN) and Dubai. However between continental Europe and Dubai they only serve one main meal. As for BKK they serve a snack after take off, and a full breakfast before landing.

Ryanair, I know what you mean. I had excellent Indonesian Sweet & Sour, Beef & Pork out of AMS on the NW! I am going to opt for the Asian meal next month on NW. I bet you can't wait for that trip report!  Smile/happy/getting dizzy

Hi guys!

Yeah , from Central Europe you get only one main menu but in First and Business Class you can get small snacks whenever you want.
So I can tell you. Service from Emirates is not bad !!!

Greetigs , Spotterb.
