This mini trip report is part of crazy journey that included also trains and car. This was last minute trip so direct flights from SOF were too expensive for me. Thankfully I found German Sky Airlines and their amazing fares plus very reasonable ticket to VAR on brand new E190.
Sofia now with very strange security measures more like CSI episode.
Gate D1 specially for domestic flights:
01.08.2012/20:30-21:10
Bulgaria air
FB977 SOF-VAR
Embraer 190 LZ-BUR
Really warm welcome:
3A best leg room in Y so far. Plus very good news form their Inflight magazine :"In the end of July the airline completed the reconfiguration of the seats of all Airbus 319, which are carrying out the regular flights of Bulgaria Air. With increasing the distance between the rows of the seats the airline provides more comfort for the passengers on board of the aircrafts, which are produced for less than 5 years."
New tower almost finished
Specially for Markus:
Not bad for 40 min. flight
There used to be business lounge, now its Costa:
Looks like prison:
So lonely:
01.08.2012/23:30 01:20 +1
German Sky Airlines
GHY352 VAR-CGN
Boeing 737-800 D-AGSA
My seat 25F.
One more for Makrus:
Plus sandwich.
24/7

Bulgaria air - Warm welcome, young and pretty female FAs, new planes and proper leg room, free catering, interesting Inflight magazine. I can only say that if they keep their product that way soon it will be better than most EU carriers.
German Sky Airlines - It was real pleasure to be their passenger. Friendly crew, flight information from cockpit during the flight, nice free catering. The best charter airline so far. Hope to fly with them soon.

May I ask how much you paid?

At least one- GHY is a very unpopular charter carrier. Flights are very often delayed, lots of sub-charters due to technical and operational problems...

Was it really stated this way in the inflight-magazine ? If so, they should use a spelling-checker !!!
plural for aircraft is aircraft...what is 'in the end of July'...? A319's are produced for less than 5 years ?
Anyhow, no more ranting...it's a great TR Alexander; the E190, indeed, is a nice and comfortable aircraft...
Nice service on GermanSky airlines...flight-safety cards are similar to Air Berlin's btw...

Hey Eco,
Interesting little report about an airline that I've never heard before (German Sky). Good to hear that they were decent and you liked their product. However, what can I possibly say about their livery and indeed their tail logo? It looks like it was designed by no other than the village idiot or a crackhead on withdrawals. Holy mackerel.
It's also nice to hear that FB is doing a decent job nowadays. I love the look of their Embraer. I'd love to give it a try. You mentioned that FB's in-flight magazine was interesting. Last time I came across one of them it was full of mistakes of all sorts. By the sound of it they have improved it. Thumbs up.
Thanks for the report!

Thanks for sharing. I am supposed to fly FB from SOF to FRA in December, unfortunately they changed the 146 to a E190, but hey at least the plane looks good. Will be interesting to see what they give you on longer sectors.
German Sky is actually just a "remake" of Sky Airlines in order to serve other destinations from Germany than Turkey. Since German Sky has a German licence, they can i.e. fly to Mallorca, Bulgaria, Egypt etc. I personally don't really like this company (Sky as a whole), however they indeed have really cheap prices. They usually don't sell individual seats on other means than their website (not even Swoodoo, Skyscanner etc), so it's usually quite cheap...

You must use their on-line checking and choose seat on 3rd row. Trust me you wont regret!

Hello eco
Nice report. Good to see German Sky Airlines and Bulgaria Air covered!
Where and how did you book German Sky? And how much did it cost?
The Embraer 190 is such a difference to what I flew on the SOF-VAR-SOF route almost exactly 10 years ago! Back then it was An-24 (LZ) and Yak-40 (DU)...

Hi Eco,
interesting report about two rather exotic carriers! I wouldn't mind to try Bulgaria Air in the near future. Maybe I'll manage to visit SOF next year - would be great to meet you there!
Good to see a report about German Sky Airlines - I tried Sky Airlines on a rather crazy day trip in late 2009:
