Hallo, dear readers,

I´am back at the homebase, Tuesday late afternoon, inbound from Wroclaw, Poland:

Perfect Company And A Couple More Flights Ex WRO (by FLIEGER67 Aug 19 2012 in Trip Reports)

Just to repack my travelbag and looking forward to one more of these short nights. Ok, ok, nothing new to me, I know.
There is an accomodation booked in Düsseldorf for the night thereafter.
Düsseldorf?. Where you can easy catch comparative good fares due to LH and AB running in competition on the STR-DUS route.
Nonstop, around 1.00 hour sounds reputable, isn´t it?. But, of course, that´s nothing for me, no way!.
On schedule is a plane-plane-plane-train-catamaran- train-plane combo today, but thanx to a warm welcomed offer, I don´t need step 6 on the train.
There is someone to pick me up on the way and prior to the story I will say thank you for the perfectly ontime service and the nice afternoon talking.
The person in question knows who I mean!.
And sure there is absolutely no relation between these person and the mysterious travel companion from Pau!.

Now, that´s the routing for this part of the story:

http://www.gcmap.com/map?P=str-mxp-vie-fdh-zrh&MS=wls&MR=120&MX=540x540&PM=*

Thanx to, as usual, the great tool:

http://www.gcmap.com/

No question, there is a new departure airport counted,
no. 219:

Departure Airports II auf einer größeren Karte anzeigen

And the earlier 200 stations are here:

Dont forget the latest done routes:

Tripreporters Flüge II auf einer größeren Karte anzeigen

Well, let´s go.

Service airberlin AB 8754 operated by LGW-Luftfahrtgesellschaft Walter
Scheduled: 06.35 // 07.45

No call this time from the 737800 hotline!.
This is the very same flight like the cancelled one from Monday.
OLCI works fine with ab´s website.
Leg one and two are booked together by ab directly.
The fare this way really good with 35.00 Euro´s per leg.
Seats selected, no printout as usual.
I will do that at the airport.
No question from the cellphone this time, 03.30 am is set to prepare me for another travel day.
Low traffic on the way and well ontime at the airport.
The boarding papers quickly collected and not a minute to wait at security, heading for the lounge now.
With ab joined the One-World Alliance recently there should be the BA place ready for me.
So it is, with me and no one else beside me here this early morning time
http://i22.photobucket.com/albums/b305/FLIEGER67/D1202/D1202001.jpg
The offers today
http://i22.photobucket.com/albums/b305/FLIEGER67/D1202/D1202002.jpg
The screen shows short thereafter boarding, so down for the gate 116 it is.
The Dash 8-400 is on schedule.
By bus around the apron till this view coming up
http://i22.photobucket.com/albums/b305/FLIEGER67/D1202/D1202003.jpg
The prop looks good this way
http://i22.photobucket.com/albums/b305/FLIEGER67/D1202/D1202004.jpg
D-ABQJ, something new?.
It is, to my surprise. Leg no. 27 on type.
Since 23.10.2009 in service with LGW and also the newest plane in the fleet
http://i22.photobucket.com/albums/b305/FLIEGER67/D1202/D1202006.jpg
6.25 am, ten minutes ahead to schedule, 55 minutes to go for "Walter" southern side of the alps.
A shortcut for "Two-Five" helps us to save more time and kerosene.
Seat view from 19F, the last row and two for me
http://i22.photobucket.com/albums/b305/FLIEGER67/D1202/D1202007.jpg
And the low loaded cabin today, 40% only.
No biz suits to see, vacationeers or maybe a citytrip to Milano?
http://i22.photobucket.com/albums/b305/FLIEGER67/D1202/D1202008.jpg
Well, this route by ab is history nowadays.
Legroom is ok here with the dark blue clean leather seaters
http://i22.photobucket.com/albums/b305/FLIEGER67/D1202/D1202009.jpg
The captain sounds like from the Netherlands with a nice welcome during boarding. The german FO is also to hear later on with short infos prior to approach.
No route or flightlevel info.
Cabin crew is one elder, one younger female FA, both ok but nothing special.
"Für Ihre Sicherheit", sure
http://i22.photobucket.com/albums/b305/FLIEGER67/D1202/D1202010.jpg
Snacks and refreshments anyone?
http://i22.photobucket.com/albums/b305/FLIEGER67/D1202/D1202011.jpg
Drinks and muffin are for free.

Looks like nice down there

The place where we should go now
http://i22.photobucket.com/albums/b305/FLIEGER67/D1202/D1202016.jpg
Directly above MXP
http://i22.photobucket.com/albums/b305/FLIEGER67/D1202/D1202017.jpg
Touchdown hard and heavy at the 3920 meters "Three-Five-Right", my apologies to the undercarriage, definitely not an easy start for the day. 07.25 am, impressive 20 minutes ahead to schedule.
It seems the guys upfront are not that really familiar with MXP or they simply want to show us as much as possible from MXP airside.
We taxied and taxied what feels like till another departure, turned around and returned close to the terminal till we reached the parking spot finally.
No clouds to notice, 15 sunny degrees, simply nice
http://i22.photobucket.com/albums/b305/FLIEGER67/D1202/D1202018.jpg
By bus to the terminal. Interesting to notice that all the other pax headed straight for the exit and me, the lonely stranger, upstairs for the connecting flights!.

John Richmond shows me the way for the Sala Monteverdi
http://i22.photobucket.com/albums/b305/FLIEGER67/D1202/D1202019.jpg
But well, I don´t really need a lounge with John Richmond this way
http://i22.photobucket.com/albums/b305/FLIEGER67/D1202/D1202020.jpg
Not that much Niki planes to spot here and the E90 is on schedule
http://i22.photobucket.com/albums/b305/FLIEGER67/D1202/D1202021.jpg
Well, that looks like my ride

These plane in Qatar colours looks also somewhat special
http://i22.photobucket.com/albums/b305/FLIEGER67/D1202/D1202027.jpg
Cabin crew is three female FA´s, all together young and nice.
Especially the young woman who I recognize from another flight, really nice.
Powerfull to say the least, ponytail, brown hair, freckles. Ah, I had said before, that I like Austria?.
More airports enroute
http://i22.photobucket.com/albums/b305/FLIEGER67/D1202/D1202028.jpg
Cockpit crew is also from Austria with a female captain today. She is to hear with nice short infos inflight.
No route or flightlevel data.
Sure a nice place to take on the Embraer, especially with a 70 % load and two for me in 1F.
Also here not that much biz travellers, mostly vacationeers on the way
http://i22.photobucket.com/albums/b305/FLIEGER67/D1202/D1202029.jpg
More of these bright brown leather seats are available in the first row. The cabin is not that really clean to say the least

Wing view from upfront
http://i22.photobucket.com/albums/b305/FLIEGER67/D1202/D1202035.jpg
That looks like not that far from VIE
http://i22.photobucket.com/albums/b305/FLIEGER67/D1202/D1202037.jpg
It is, definitely
http://i22.photobucket.com/albums/b305/FLIEGER67/D1202/D1202038.jpg
Nice city views
http://i22.photobucket.com/albums/b305/FLIEGER67/D1202/D1202039.jpg

Service 3L 103 operated by InterSky
Scheduled: 11.50 // 13.05

And again prior to this, it´s the quest how to explore my way through the maze of the recently opened new terminal wing.
I´am sure that the Austrian guys here are heading with the theme: "Why to built it the easy way, when there is a much more complicated one possible".
Well, that´s nothing new to me, of course.
And also Check-In is a somewhat sureal experience.
No OLCI with Intersky, the announced counter on the big screen is taken by some staff checking-in KL and AF services.
"No we are not doing the Check-In for Intersky".
There is a guy in his 50´s, sitting relaxed behind a non used desk what looks like more like an supervisor.
"Ah, Intersky, they usually do the counters around the corner till the far end of the smaller hall".
Not to talk about the screen shows anyway the KL/AF counter.
I decide to help calming down an oldster Austrian gentleman who is desperately walking up and down the desks in search for the, so it seems, InterSky one.
"I´am sure (Am I really?) we will find the right place to check in for FDH soon!".
A young guy is staffing the very last counter, no Intersky sign to view.
But yes, as soon as the printer is working, he will do the Check-In for Intersky.
Boarding pass in hand and heading for security while the screen shows anyway the KL/AF desk!.
This flight is booked by Intersky directly scheduled on the Dash 8-300, with a real good fare, 65.00 Euro´s.
C72, let´s go
http://i22.photobucket.com/albums/b305/FLIEGER67/D1202/D1202042.jpg

A warm welcome to OE-LIA, leg no. 6 only on the Dash 8-300 and a new entry to the log.
In service with Augsburg Airways and Intersky since 01.01.1998. One of three planes only in the fleet.
OE-LIA is involved here and somewhat interesting to notice what is possible in Germany these days:

And once again to announce finals later on.

11.50 am, ontime, "Intersky" is on the way for the 1 hour, 20 minutes ride along the alps.
18 degrees by now and high clouds only.
Puh, that sounds not like the standard family themed story

Just departed from the 3500 meters runway "Two-Nine"

Young, large, cute, blond, short hair and ever smiling.
Ah, that´s the way it should be.

There is a young woman in pilots uniform on the plane.
We had a nice short chat about the low load on Intersky today on the way for the terminal.
Sure a nice welcome back to Germany.
Where to go now?.
This is the Bodensee-Oberschwaben-Bahn which stops directly at FDH airport and should shuttle me to Friedrichshafen harbour, departure at 1.41 pm, the fare 1.90 Euro´s

This is a somewhat more sureal feeling, in Germany, on the catamaran, no wind, no waves and the Swiss mountains in the distance.
It seems the nice german woman standing beside me at the railing and looking out for the water has the same impression.
No, I´am not with drugs, sure, but it feels like you simply step outside the ship and walk away.

http://i22.photobucket.com/albums/b305/FLIEGER67/D1202/D1202097.jpg
No train needed for the next step.
There is someone waiting for me.
Thanx H. for the pickup and nice talking on the way to ZRH and be sure, this is really worth the money for another flight!.

I will stop the story here and continue later on with
three more flights, the new departure airport where you park you´re airplane in style backwards and a visit to one of these really recommendable Unesco world heritage sites.

Here are the conclusions:
LGW STR-MXP: Calm and quiet.
Niki MXP-VIE: Comfy and relaxed again.
InterSky VIE-FDH: I should not stop flying, as long as something like this is possible.

Servus and looking for some comments, as usual.

Hello Markus,

Thanks for yet an interesting episode. You came up with another interesting carrier - of which I haven’t heard of yet - and an interesting airport as well. Does FDH have more scheduled flights?

Quoting FLIEGER67 (Thread starter):
No call this time from the 737800 hotline!

I love that number. Is it really the AB hotline?

Quoting FLIEGER67 (Thread starter):
Well, this route by ab is history nowadays.

Is it, too bad... But there’s still Contact Air, right?

Quoting FLIEGER67 (Thread starter):
my apologies to the undercarriage

You’re not the one who owes an apology

Quoting FLIEGER67 (Thread starter):
These plane in Qatar colours looks also somewhat special

Nice catch, is that a QR cargo plane, an Ilyushin?

Quoting FLIEGER67 (Thread starter):
And the seats

Looks good and stylish in that nearly white grey.

Quoting FLIEGER67 (Thread starter):
the fare here 9.80 Euro´s

Quite steep but a nice way to travel in style! It doesn’t always have to be a plane!

Hi Markus,

interesting report, nice choice of airlines. I still need to try InterSky, but I may wait until they get the new ATRs which I prefer over any kind of Dash 8. Btw - did they just serve these dry crackers?

Another enjoyable and good report.
Looks like you had another pair of good flights there, nice to see a report of Intersky too.

Thank you.

Quoting adamspotter (Reply 2):
Great idea to include pictures of the catamaran into this report, love them!

It was also really special for me.

@M.:

Quoting MSS658 (Reply 3):

Great report, thanks for sharing! Intersky was yet known to me.
Cool you where able to log a plane for your own, It would be nice to have that myself one day as well.
AB and Niki seemed to please you as well.

Thank you and that was for sure a special experience with me and InterSky.

@N.:

Quoting sultanils (Reply 4):

Thanks for yet an interesting episode. You came up with another interesting carrier - of which I haven’t heard of yet - and an interesting airport as well. Does FDH have more scheduled flights?

Thank you.
Not that much at FDH. LH for FRA, 4U and FR.

Quoting sultanils (Reply 4):

I love that number. Is it really the AB hotline?

It is.

Quoting sultanils (Reply 4):

Is it, too bad... But there’s still Contact Air, right?

Till October only, further by 4U.

Quoting sultanils (Reply 4):

You’re not the one who owes an apology

Hah, good point.

Quoting sultanils (Reply 4):

Nice catch, is that a QR cargo plane, an Ilyushin?

AFAIK, it´s US Military stuff by McDonnelDouglas, also available in a civil version.

Quoting sultanils (Reply 4):

Looks good and stylish in that nearly white grey.

Sure my opinion.

Quoting sultanils (Reply 4):

Quite steep but a nice way to travel in style! It doesn’t always have to be a plane!

Good point here.

She does it this way!.

Hi Markus,

great array of airlines again   I'm sure flying from STR to VIE via MXP on AB is not to most common connecting airport for them   Interesting with what routings airlines come up. Not so long ago I booked a American Airlines flight for a guest from Miami to Vienna via BCN (instead of obvious MAD or LHR), BCN-VIE being operated by HG...

Catamaran and Constance is so nice. I used to live there quite a few years during my studies. Back then there was no Catamaran however, but there was a bus service from FDH to Meersburg, from which you had to take the Ferry to Constance.

By the way, there is also a regular Ferry service from FDH to Romanshorn, Switzerland, from which you can also take a train to ZRH.

Hi Markus,

a great routing to get from STR to DUS. You are right of course, why go the easy way if there is such an interesting itinerary? Looks like a couple of nice flights with AB and HG. And also with Intersky, I was quite interested to read how they are since they will start operating from FKB as well next year (they fill the gap on the FKB-HAM route that AB is leaving). The interior of their Dash looks good, though a tiny little bit more colors would be nice.

Nice pictures from the catamaran ride on the Bodensee, interesting atmosphere there with the gloomy light over the calm waters.

Hi Markus,

Well it was about time you finally logged Intersky, after all it operates right out of your home Bundesland! Although I'm really surprised you went the wrong way around and actually caught a flight *to* FDH - after all since you are so after logging new departure airports these days this one is right at your doorstep so catching an Intersky flight somewhere from there would've been more logical to me!

Anyway nice to see Intersky, reminds me of May 2010 when I flew with them and also had a weird a.net meet in Stuttgart with someone local, was it Flyer86 or something...?

Part 2 should get interesting.

Quoting FLIEGER67 (Thread starter):

Hah, nice. But isn't this also against your personal rules, you are flying the same outbound flight twice on a row? Ok, thanks to the earlier cancellation you didn't know that but still...

Quoting FLIEGER67 (Thread starter):
With ab joined the One-World Alliance recently there should be the BA place ready for me.

Is this one on the Schengen side? Or does STR even have a proper non-Schengen part?

Quoting FLIEGER67 (Thread starter):
By bus to the terminal. Interesting to notice that all the other pax headed straight for the exit and me, the lonely stranger, upstairs for the connecting flights!.

Hah, the same happened to me once when flying to MXP with AY and continuing to BCN with LHI.

Quoting FLIEGER67 (Thread starter):
And this is the catamaran fast service for the ride to Constance, departure at 2.02 pm, scheduled arrival 2.50 pm, the fare here 9.80 Euro´s

Nice fare. And an interesting and futuristic looking ship as well. Do they do duty free onboard for that sector?

Hi Markus,

Good to read part one of this adventure. Shame those tickets on Intersky went up before I had a chance to book, would have been an interesting one for the log. I still don't understand why they have white leather seats though, surely the cleaning bills must be horrendous.

Quoting FLIEGER67 (Thread starter):
And the low loaded cabin today, 40% only.

I'm not suprised they've finished that route with such poor loads. Shame though, it seemed to be a good one for nice views and some interesting connections out of MXP.

Generous service on HG, what with the sandwich and the muffin for the length of the flight.

This is a somewhat more sureal feeling, in Germany, on the catamaran, no wind, no waves and the Swiss mountains in the distance.

Lake Constance is defintely the best place in Switzerland to get the feeling of open space on the water, great isn't it?
