It is 6:00 am at JFK's terminal 9 on June 28th, 2002. The ticket lines for AA are long, but the One-Stop counter had no line (and I got 500 bounus miles for using it!!) and I was at the gate in no time. The service staff was very nice the whole way. The plane (an MD-80) boarded on time and left early.

We were all given Bistro meals that were small and bad, but it was nice to get food. I took a picture and it should be up on the Airlinemeals.net site soon. The plane was VERY roomy and I was in seat 25A right on the wing. We left JFK on runway 31L and climbed over Floyd-Bennett field. When I asked for a pillow the flight attendant fluffed it for me and put it under my head... and I was in coach!!! We were at FL340. The crew made me very comfortable and I really felt welcomed. Th beverage cart came by four times on this flight. There was thever a time the F/A was not right there taking my order. The first class curtain remained open the whole flight and I could see how great the pursar was in the first-class cabin. He was so freindly like everyone else. When we landed at DFW I was amazed at what a mAAchine it was:

Thre were so many AA aircraft (espessialy MD-80s) going back and forth. There were almost no non-AA planes. It was awesome. DFW was huge and had good food. THe plane parked in Terminal B but my connection was in Terminal A. I took the TrAAin to the next terminal. The TrAAin connects all of the terminals serviced by AA (A, B, and C). Once at Terminal A I was first on line to board the Saab 340 to LBB.

I was selected for further screening. The guy was so nice about it telling me where his hands would go before they went there. I was on a COflight recently and they were SOOOO rude about it. The guy made me feel like a human being. The Saab 340 was cramped and hot as hell as compared to the MD-80. There was a moth flying around that I was trying to kill. We got our pretzles and drink but the FA was really new. She was reading instructions off of a card and had to look at the oxygen masks instructions before she herself could put it on durning the demo. The fligt was at FL160 and uneventfull. I was in seat 10A... RIGHT ON THE WING!!! LBB is a small airport with no amenities. I have flewn AA many times and it has NEVER been this good.

SORRY FOR TYPOS.

I enjoyed your report. It's nice to see that AA is NOT "Wal-Marting" themselves as their illustrious president, Donald Carty put it recently.

Yeah, the corporation itself is Wal-Marting itself but I think the employees are rebelling by being more courtious. The food was really bad on the flight. It was insulting. I ordered a kosher meal just for fun (i like to experiment w/ airline food) and it was sooo much worse than what everyone else got. There was no cereal... everyone else got cereal. That is the corparation. But the People at AA are good.

CMK-
I am sure he saw some Delta, but I think he was trying to show how AA dominates DFW.

What do you mean by "Wal-marting"?

I guess when Carty used the term "not Wal-Marting itself" he was indicating that AA would not become a bare bones, no-frills, budget airline (his metaphor uses Wal-Mart as a budget, low cost retailer). Rather, AA would remain full service despite the tough revenue environment the airlines are currently faced with.

Actually I saw no Delta at DFW. I saw a lot at JFK. I saw 3 United Aircraft at DFW. Really it was mostly AA and Eagle it was scary. I saw one Air Tran and i think a MidwestExpress.

My flight was 1091 to DFW from JFK.

One thing I noticed at DFW was that one aircraft taxied into position on the runway bofore the one before it even rotated. It's not a surprise I saw no Delta. Teminal A is 100% AA. Termnal B is 50% AA but it had no Delta visible. I think that Delta flys from terminal D. My freind took AirTran (the same day) to DFW and said he saw a Delta plane. AirTran is out of terminal D. D is a good name for that terminal. D for Delta and D for AirTran (the D is fo dissaster)

Well , I´ve been at DFW only once , but I can tell you ... Terminals A-C is mostly AA dominated. Terminal D is dominated by Air Tran and Delta.
Normally , you can see a lot of DL planes at DFW.

nice report.

Guys... Terminal D isn't even built yet! It is still under construction. You all were thinking of Terminal E

Also, Northwest parks at Terminal E too along with Air Canada.

I was on a COflight recently and they were SOOOO rude about it. The guy made me feel like a human being.

I hate that feeling....  Big grin

I can see how I was unclear. Let me rephrase.

It's true that the Bistro Bags leave something to be desired. I'm about to write a trip report that tells the contents.

Flyboy, they named it Terminal E and not D because of its location. A in the upper right then across to B. C is below A. D will be across from C. E and then F.....check out a map, you'll get it. Term D will be the new international terminal. Not sure what F will have. You never saw Delta cause B is totally on the other side of the airport, and American Eagle in Term. A is way on the north end.

Being from Lubbock I would have to agree with you that LBB is a small airport, but saying that it has "no amenities" would be a false statement. It has two restaurants and a well stocked gift shop. It may not be much, but it is normal for and airport of its size. So saying that LBB has "no amenities" is being a little harsh. Unless you feel that there is something else required to denote amenities.

You are right, and I am sorry for misrepresenting the situation. Lubbock has no amenities OUTSIDE the sucurity area where the baggage claims are. Once you leave you are stuck. I hhad to wait there a looong timme because my freind was on the next flight. Ibsise the LBB terminal there is a snack shop and arcade. I do understand that when LBB was built anyone could go past security, not just Pax who have a flight.... but untill the security is relaxed LBB has NOTHING if you've arrived or are picking up a freind (I did both  Smile)

Flyboy,

Can you tell me more about your SAAB flight?
How was the weather that day and how did it handle the bumps along the way.

Where is the best seat on the plane (in terms of most quiet....or least loud)?

How are the SAABs I've neverbeen on one and I will be making my first flight on one this weekend.

There is no quiet place on the Saab. I guess if there was one it would be all the way in the back. The Saab is really small and cramped. If you are travelling alone I HIGHLY reccomend getting one of those seats that you can have for yourself without any seat next you you (one of those window and Isle seats). The weather was nice but the decent got a bit bumpy. If you have any more questions AOL/AIM IM me at: AirPowerNYC

OH!! And ue the batthroom before you go. It is too small to use. I'm not joking!
