I booked this trip back in the early part of June and was flying to Dublin for a days plane spotting with some friends. My closest friend flew on Ryanair from Birmingham whilst the other two flew on Ryanair from Leeds Bradford all flying to EIDW for the day The day I booked FR wanted £63.25 for BHX-DUB-BHX and I paid £43.00 for EMA-DUB-EMA with bmibaby.
Fell into EMA at 0527 that morning for the flight which was due to depart at 0700. Nice lil lady at check in asked me where I was flying to, asked if I had any sharp items in my handluggage and checked me in, giving me seat 7A. After checking in my mum came with me to the café which has reasonable views of the runway at East Midlands. On the apron were:
Britannia Boeing 767-300 G-OBYE
My Travel Airbus A321 G-NIKO?
JMC AIR A320-200 G-BVYA
bmibaby 737-36N G-OJTW
bmibaby 737-36N G-ECAS
Britannia 757-200 G-BYAI
GO 737-300's
bmi F100's
bmi ERJ145's
Mum wasn't coming with me on this flight, so I was flying alone for the first time at the age of 16 and mum was really scared the same would happen to me as it did to loads of other kids (god bless them) on the TU154 that collided with the DHL752F that morning. I went through departures at 0630, mum was on the floor by this point (god mum I only went for a day lol) and practically walked straight on the plane morealess, hardly any security at EMA, and there was a boarding call as soon as I got into the lounge! I had a txt from mum saying she knows im on ECAS and will watch it go out! Yai I had an audience!
Anyway enough of mum, I got on G-ECAS through the front door and got my windowseat (7A) placed my bag under the seat infront and my jacket in the seat next to that. I had half a row to myself, the plane itself was about 60% full if that. Doors closed at 0645 and the piolt announced there will be a delay due to operational reasons and our estimated taxi pushback time is 0705. I was thinking what the hell can I do just sitting here and as I said that I heard the calm sound of 763 engines taxing by and yep G-OBYE departed. My window was facing the main taxiway so I had a fab view of all the action. OBYE along with every other aircraft in the airport nearly departed! So that provided the entertainment as we sat going nowhere! Then at 0700 we had pushback (the safety demo was done in the time we wasted just sitting in the plane) and we taxied down to R27. I can't imagine what mum was going through....
We waited for a bmi F70 to go down R27 and lined up immediatly after it, a small wait and our captain thrusted our engines up and released the breaks. Zooming down R27 the kids were laughing at the back, and we rotated just before the viewing area/café thing and I waved to me mum
The flight itself was very nice, smooth and the cabin crew were very friendly. I got myself breakfast (a Kit Kat Chunky for £0.50p) and took photos as we went up to 22,000ft. Before you knew it we were decending into DUB and the clouds were dead fluffy hehe which made flying in and out of them cute minor turbulence encountered and we done loads of turns before joining finals into DUB. Landing in over the sea is always nice and DUB is no exeption, the sun was shining and with that lil harbor and everything under the approach path it looked like I was in spain or something! Well wicked! Flaps went dowm to their full extent and the speed breaks put back down again. Landing gear was lowered and we touched down on R28, quite a soft landing but really hard reverse thrust was used. We taxied onto stand and they were pulling the airbridge up but then decided not to and we had to walk off! charming! Arrivals was easy enough, walked straight though and went to the best plane spotting spot on the other side of the airfield. Shots like the one below are like mine and we spent all day morealess in this location....

Ok Days up, time to go back to the East Midlands! My LBA friends checked in for their FR flight 30 mins before me, and once I checked in went through departures. My other friend couldnt check in for his flight to BHX until 1820 so he was going to wait and watch me depart woohoo Im doing well for audiences today lol... Anyway went through departures at 1730, checked out the shops and boarded my flight at 1800. 1820 and we were ready to go - well we thought we were.....
The head cabin attendant alerted the captain of an unattended bag which was left by the forward door and this caused a lil secuirty alert and my flight wasnt going anywhere, that was until some irish woman came down the asile claiming that the bag was hers and she left it by "accident". She was removed from the flight, her bags checked and reloaded. We would have departed without her but the pilot at 1830 announced we had problems with the aircrafts trim and the luuage had to be reloacated. 1850 and hurrah finally we pushedback and headed out to R28.
Departed R28 and turned right round to head to the UK got some fantastic ariel shots of DUB before hitting the thick clouds just off the irish coast which we spent about half an hour in. There was turbulence in these clouds which was quite heavy. We went up an extra 1,000ft this time to 23,000ft and battled the winds. Over liverpool we started turning towards the Midlands and we were still going quite fast and high! then the power began to be cut from the engines, the nose lowered quite steeply and we decended rapidly towards EMA. Came through the clouds and I could see EMA in the distance then below us a Britannia 757 headed towards the airfield. We came quite close to the 757 and I looked through my lens to read the reg it was G-BYAI so it was returning from the flight this morning obviously. We followed her inbounds and we had quite a spectacular landing into EMA, a bit like a minor kai tak style approach! Turning all the way down, I loved it! We touched down at the lower part of R27 as the tail of the BY757 just cleared the end according to mum who yes you guessed it was waiting for my return (no she hadn't been there all day lol)
We taxied onto stand, got onto an airport bus and was swept through arrivals which wasvery easy.
All in all the flights were fab, got a safetycard, a inflight menu, a headrest ! Oh something I forgot to mention as we were over the irish sea *sOmEoNe* naming no names receieved a text message! Someone forgot to turn their mobile phone off in Dublin! Now If you are a regular member of this forum you'll know I have already posted one EMA-DUB-EMA bmibaby trip report from March 2002 - this is the fourth time ive flown on G-ECAS this year! Love the aircraft though! and will post another after I fly them again in September!
Ladies and gentlemen thank you for choosing this trip report and we hope to see you again on this forum very soon!

Lovely trip report indeed. Nice little day-trip you went on - to spot in Dublin. That is good.
Next time, though, please turn off your mobile phone before take-off - that could alarm passengers to hear it going off (not to mention the plane's computers).
Glad you had a fun day in the Republic of Ireland.
