Introduction
G’day mates,
Can you imagine how hard to believe that after five month looking forward to traveling down under, in all sudden, it was time to go back across the ocean?
Indian Ocean viewed from Rotary Lookout. Note the headland
‘Canal Rocks! One of many striking headlands that lie along the Leeuwin-Naturaliste National Park coastline,’
‘Ariel!’
‘Oh, you are getting melancholic? Excuse me!’
Canal Rocks
‘Look closely at the rocks,’
‘Can you see a subtle banding? This texture is characteristic of metamorphic rock called gneiss,’
‘How do you say it again? Gn…’
‘Just pronounce it as nice. The rock from which the gneiss metamorphosed was granite, formed about 750 million years ago from molten rock many kilometers below the surface,’
‘Beauty!’
‘Do you know that due to its intersecting system of joints, fractures and faults within, the gneiss allows pounding waves off Indian Ocean to deeply penetrate it, eroding it to form linear-shaped canals?’
Canal
‘Watch out!’
Pounding waves
“My glasses!” Herman shouted out.
Mobile check in
“Hello, hello, baby, you called? I can’t hear a thing
I have got no service, in the club, you see, you see…”
‘Ariel, why are you imitating Lady Gaga?’
‘We are within 48 hours prior to your departure. Time to visit CX Mobile Application or Cathay Pacific’s mobile site,’
‘It is still early in the morning!’
‘Just go on and select the “Check-In” option, will ya?’
Check-In
‘Retrieve your booking record by entering your flight and personal details,’

‘By the way, have you joined either Marco Polo Club or Asia Miles?’
‘No. Why?’
‘You could have accessed your booking record with your membership number as well,’

‘Select your seat and send your check-in confirmation to your mobile device via SMS or E-mail,’
Check-In completed
‘Et voilá!’
Check In Confirmation
‘This is not a boarding pass!’
‘No worries! We will take care of it at the airport. Go back to sleep if you want!’
Above Bored Bed & Breakfast
“Seriously, do you want us to stay here? How about yourself?”
Master bedroom. Note gas open fireplace
“Do you not want to lie down on the oak queen-sized bed and enjoy reading next to the stained glass bedside lamp while en-suite bathroom is just next door with all classic comforts?”
Bathroom. Note the gold taps
Toiletries
“The letter is even addressed to you by the owner of the residence, TV series writer Dr. Sarah Rossetti!”
Welcome letter. Note cordate chocolates in golden wrapping
“It is fine,” Our sister-in-law Valerie just smiled. “Do not worry about the bill either,”
Mates,
Herman’s glasses may have perished, but Valerie’s generosity along with other fond memories of our journey to the Land Down Under will always be in our mind.
Allow me to dedicate this penultimate story to Roni (Ronerone), Anosh (SR 103) and Palmjet

‘No chance, Suryo,’

Conclusion
First of all, I sincerely hope that my friends Anosh, Roni and Palmjet will accept my dedication of this penultimate story of our journey.
Secondly, my gratitude as always to my greatest companion Herman and also to our sister-in-law Valerie and her husband Joannes for their utmost generosity.
Furthermore, I wish to cordially thank Daniele and Jenny for their assistance at Perth Airport; Phoebe, Winsome, Irma, Zoe, Cynthia and in particular Ava for pampering us on board.
Last but not least, my gratitude to all of you, my mates. Thank you so much for joining us all the way from Perth to Hong Kong.
There sure is some lovely coastal scenery down there and Herman captured the views perfectly. Shame about the glasses, though. Does he carry a spare pair with him?
Quoting akhmad (Reply 2): Because there are babies on thirty D and thirty K, the front Economy row,”
That's very considerate as we all know that babies can make a lot of noise. But I see that you moved back. What was wrong with the other seats? I guess you put the noise-cancelling headsets to good use, or were the babies quiet?
Quoting akhmad (Reply 3): The babies are travelling with only one female passenger. Please bare with us,”
That must make it awkward with feeding, although the meals could be staggered. But what happens in the event of an emergency. One parent and two babies would make evacuation difficult.
Quoting akhmad (Reply 3): A proud product of Mundella, Western Australia’s premier dairy company,’
Hey, they won several prizes at the Royal Agricultural Show this year, including "Champion Dairy Product" for their Greek Honey Yoghurt. I have some of their range in the fridge. Good to see CX buying local produce.
The meals look quite presentable and the attention from the cabin crew certainly made your journey comfortable.
Gosh, what poor visibility. Was that due to cloud or pollution? It looks a bit like Perth when smoke from a bushfire is blown across the city.
Quoting akhmad (Reply 5): First of all, I sincerely hope that my friends Anosh, Roni and Palmjet will accept my dedication of this penultimate story of our journey.
How could they refuse an offer from one who is generous of spirit and sincere?
Thank you Suryo for another wonderful trip report. As the year end fast approaches let me wish you and Herman a very happy Christmas and many more travels in 2013.

Hello there!
This was a very nice trip report to see with Cathay!
As a foodie, I want to ask you which one is your favorite: Congee or Crew Meal? I love congee, but not everyone can get that right! Delta does a fabulous congee and also does Korean Air. I am on a congee mission!!! lol!
My other question for you is, how does this configuration compare on the A330 versus 777? Do you find there to be less privacy (as in are you facing more to the passenger across from you) on the Airbus versus the Boeing? I have only flown the 777 flight so I would imagine the seat is faced more toward the front than the A330 due to the cabin width.
Perhaps I have answered my own question, but this is what questions are for! =]

Seems like Ariel is getting a little more aggressive lately! You should keep an eye on that...
So if you aren't a member of the Marco Polo club...which One World airline are you a member of? Seems like a shame to fly all those miles in Business and not credit the miles somewhere!
Glad to see the photo with Ava at the end...I was a little worried there wouldn't be any photos of you with an FA in this trip report!

That feeling is always there, but the trip back on a plane is what makes it less sad! However when you finally get home and it's all over the visit at the destination, and the plane trip back home, that can be a real bummer!!

Interesting that CX already plates their meals and bring them out to their passengers, as opposed to other carriers who I believe take your order then bring it out to you, or is the latter just an option with on demand dining?

The seating arrangement felt a bit strange in the beginning. Indeed, it was not easy to get a decent window view. But at the end, it was fine. Herman even found it the most comfortable one to sleep on.
Quoting SRQKEF (Reply 14): I've only flown CX Y class, but my dad flew LHR-HKG-MNL in J last year and loved it. Seems like it has a pretty good product and the service looks quite good.
You just cannot fault CX. Everything in J Class is geared towards your personal needs to ensure that your journey is as smooth, comfortable and enjoyable as possible.
Quoting sultanils (Reply 12): Wow, your research abilities go above my reason definitely. Good job in retrieving these details!
Quoting flightsimboy (Reply 13): Kudos to you for adding these in, though I am not sure how you manage to record these .. (Ah perhaps a search feature on airliners.net...whatever the case be, you take the time to do it!!
Quoting SRQKEF (Reply 14): I love this part of your reports!
Quoting Quokkas (Reply 6): In the words of the song, Suryo,
"G'day g'day, how ya goin', what d'ya know, well strike a light
G'day g'day, and how ya go-o-o-in'
Just say g'day g'day g'day and you'll be right ."
By Slim Dusty, your home country singer who sold over 5 million records during his music career of nearly seven decades.
Quoting Quokkas (Reply 6): There sure is some lovely coastal scenery down there and Herman captured the views perfectly.
Thank you on behalf of Herman.
Quoting Quokkas (Reply 6): Shame about the glasses, though. Does he carry a spare pair with him?
Unfortunately not. It was the only pair of his prescription glasses.
Quoting Quokkas (Reply 6): I guess you put the noise-cancelling headsets to good use, or were the babies quiet?
The babies were surprisingly behaving very well.
Quoting Quokkas (Reply 6): That must make it awkward with feeding, although the meals could be staggered.
I believe you. I have no experience with it.
Quoting Quokkas (Reply 6): But what happens in the event of an emergency. One parent and two babies would make evacuation difficult.
You make a good point here. I hope that co-passengers or crew members would be so kind to help her out with the babies in case of emergency.
Quoting Quokkas (Reply 6): Hey, they won several prizes at the Royal Agricultural Show this year, including "Champion Dairy Product" for their Greek Honey Yoghurt. I have some of their range in the fridge.
You know how to indulge yourself with award-winning products!
Quoting Quokkas (Reply 6): Good to see CX buying local produce.
A plausible extension of CX service commitment of regional products.
Quoting Quokkas (Reply 6): No Red Dragon to block your way this time. Good.
Lucky me!
Quoting Quokkas (Reply 6): Stop it. You know that I love cheese and you are making my mouth water.
Quoting AirAfreak (Reply 8): As a foodie, I want to ask you which one is your favorite: Congee or Crew Meal?
Congee, due to nostalgic reasons.
Quoting AirAfreak (Reply 8): I love congee, but not everyone can get that right! Delta does a fabulous congee and also does Korean Air. I am on a congee mission!!! lol!
Have you ever tried the China Airlines’ one?
Quoting AirAfreak (Reply 8): My other question for you is, how does this configuration compare on the A330 versus 777?
I have never been on the 777 unfortunately. But, if I make an approximate comparison as the 777’s configuration is similar to the 744’s one, it was fine on both aircrafts.
Quoting AirAfreak (Reply 8): Do you find there to be less privacy (as in are you facing more to the passenger across from you) on the Airbus versus the Boeing?
As of my experience with the 744, I did not have any privacy issue with passenger across from me.
Quoting AirAfreak (Reply 8): I have only flown the 777 flight so I would imagine the seat is faced more toward the front than the A330 due to the cabin width.
I am not sure about the installation. The A330 does have one middle seat less because of the cabin width compare with the 777.
Quoting AirAfreak (Reply 8): Perhaps I have answered my own question, but this is what questions are for! =]
No worries.

Burj,
Quoting Burj (Reply 9): Seems like Ariel is getting a little more aggressive lately! You should keep an eye on that...
Ariel is just feeling good.
Quoting Burj (Reply 9): So if you aren't a member of the Marco Polo club...which One World airline are you a member of?
British Airways.
Quoting Burj (Reply 9): Seems like a shame to fly all those miles in Business and not credit the miles somewhere!
You are absolutely right. That is why we collect the miles whenever possible at Executive Club.
Quoting Burj (Reply 9): Glad to see the photo with Ava at the end...I was a little worried there wouldn't be any photos of you with an FA in this trip report!
Quoting sultanils (Reply 12): What an excellent piece once again, I had a great read and a good laugh at times
You make me really happy.
Quoting sultanils (Reply 12): that FA Ava went all the way to deliver the best possible experience.
We were blessed with Ava.
Quoting sultanils (Reply 12): 'red red wine' = UB40! An all time classic!
Quoting sultanils (Reply 12): Wow, Ariel being the bossy type here. Have you done something wrong?
Well, I was too sleepy to conduct mobile check-in.
Quoting sultanils (Reply 12): I can see you were not bored at all in that nice B&B. Ran by the family?
Australian TV series writer Dr. Sarah Rossetti owns the premises. I am not sure whether any family member of hers is involved in the business as well.
Quoting sultanils (Reply 12): Sorry but I think CX has to come up with a better name than 'Marco Polo' for a class designation. Don't like it...
That is fair enough. The Marco Polo Club is more a program than a class actually named after a Venetian merchant traveler who inspired Christopher Columbus and others by his pioneering journey (e.g. The Silk Road) to Central Asia and China.
Quoting sultanils (Reply 12): That's the 1st time I see that a country needs 'outgoing' info from a passenger.
Well, an animal must have a name. The OPC is nothing different to common Departure Card.
Quoting flightsimboy (Reply 13): Something so smooth and delicate on the Airbuses compared to the thoroughbred Boeing 777-300ERs!!!
Both Airbuses and Boeing 777-300ERs have their own charm. I must say I like them all.
Quoting flightsimboy (Reply 13): That feeling is always there, but the trip back on a plane is what makes it less sad! However when you finally get home and it's all over the visit at the destination, and the plane trip back home, that can be a real bummer!!
Quoting flightsimboy (Reply 13): Ah we learn something new about Herman (Not that poor Herman is being stalked in any way lol) He wears glasses (which he lost) and a real surprise he has a twin brother...Identical? Perhaps!!
Herman and Joannes are twins. People say they are identical, but I do not buy it.
Quoting flightsimboy (Reply 13): I don't know if I'll ever take up to Gauva...As the parrots back home would eat only this, and somehow I associate the fruit with them lol
Quoting flightsimboy (Reply 13): There is just something so soothing about that pic! Gives once immediately a sense of such relaxation, watching the hours go by on your TV screen (being unable to watch the clouds go by due to the placement of the seats at an angle at the window) and the drink seems so exotic!!
I never thought that way. Thank you for sharing this point of view!
Quoting flightsimboy (Reply 13): And then suddenly being frightened (by the flash) in this one lol...(I am sure Ariel hid in fright somewhere with the bright light lol...just teasing)
Ariel says that the flash may damage his delicate skin. So, he has to take cover.
Quoting flightsimboy (Reply 13): Almost had a vision of seafood gladiators battling it out in your plate (or perhaps in your mouth with your taste buds!!)
Mission accomplished!
Quoting flightsimboy (Reply 13): Interesting that CX already plates their meals and bring them out to their passengers, as opposed to other carriers who I believe take your order then bring it out to you,
It is CX’s serving procedure in Business Class to serve meal on a low trolley that gives you an eye-level choice of what is on offer.
Quoting flightsimboy (Reply 13): or is the latter just an option with on demand dining?
On demand dining is only available in First Class.
Quoting flightsimboy (Reply 13): Nice touch of you to add the script and personally thank Ava for the service!!
The least I can do to acknowledge her outstanding service.
Quoting flightsimboy (Reply 13): Ha,ha, I havent said much of Ariel but I'm glad he's back to his mischief...
‘Thank you’ Ariel says.
Quoting flightsimboy (Reply 13): Poor child, this flight back on CX has helped him renew his care free spirit to be himself again lol!!
Oh yes, he is back with vengeance.

Hi Sveinn,
Quoting SRQKEF (Reply 14): How do you know if a certain aircraft has carried an a.net member? Just by memory or do you keep a log or something like that?
I do not keep any log. I just rely on my memory and Google.

hello Suryo
Another great report to follow and sing along. CX has great service in J I must say, I just don't fancy the herringbone seating at all. After reading this report I'm wondering how many seat configurations CX has in J.

Hi Suryo, thank you for posting this trip report. It was an enjoyable read, and a good insight into a class of service which I've yet to experience. One day, hopefully.
Quoting akhmad (Reply 2): “Here is your seat, Sir,” Phoebe guided me upon a glance at my boarding pass.
There's a viewing deck just looking onto the threshold of 03/21. It's great for spotters when that runway is in use!
Quoting akhmad (Reply 2): B-LAH does not accelerate immediately. It must be prepared for takeoff on reduced power to minimize noise impact on Perth residents

Hi Suryo
Great report - thank you for the dedication too. It was good to read the next part of your travels down under.
Cathay looked like they provided a good experience. Your pics are great. I felt like I was travelling with you.
I also liked your first pic taken of the Leeuwin-Naturaliste National Park coastline - I visited this part of WA a few years ago and it's stunning. I really loved Western Australia. It's one of the most stunning places to visit.
Looking forward to the next part - homeward bound!
Quoting CXB77L (Reply 21): It was an enjoyable read, and a good insight into a class of service which I've yet to experience.
Thank you. Everything is already geared towards your personal needs to ensure that your journey is as smooth, comfortable and enjoyable as possible. And you got even more out of it with Phoebe, Winsome, Irma, Zoe, Cynthia and Ava at your service.
Quoting CXB77L (Reply 21): How did you like the old business class?
The seating arrangement felt a bit strange in the beginning, it was fine at the end. Especially for Herman, it happened to be the most comfortable one to sleep on.

Quoting FLIEGER67 (Reply 23): Especially Perth airport and surroundings are interesting.
I will do the same route in the other direction in March by QF if nothing goes wrong.
I hope you will make it to discover Perth airport and surroundings by yourself. I would love to read your story.
