Beware, very long trip report with tons of pictures !

We arrived in Los Angeles on time from Papeete on flight AF 077, we were now walking towards TBIT from where China Southern Airlines CZ328 for Guangzhou


While walking to TBIT I take the picture of this Philippine Airlines Boeing 747-400 that landed at the same time as us on the North runway.


No one in the Business Class line, a first security agent checks that we are on the flight and directs us towards the first agent available.



Nice Orchids decorate the counters.


My suitcase is 20 kilos, the weight of clothing for 3 weeks of vacation !



The agent confirms that our final destination is Bangkok, verifies the dates for the return flights and enters all data in her computer and tags our bags to BKK.


She then fills up our invitations for the SkyTEAM/KE lounge.


She'll indicate that our seats are the ones we picked after I sent an email to the LA office who sent my request to LAX station. Nice job Allison at CZ LAX ! The agent will then indicate the way to the lounge.

Security check is quick as there are not many people in the Premium line.

On the other side, we arrive in front of the lounges entrance.



At the entrance of the lounge, more orchids, the agents scan our boarding cards and invite us to enter the lounge.

We go towards the Prestige Class side of the lounge. The lounge is not very big and it is blind because of the ground work for the new terminal building.


We choose a place near a plug to charge up our computers and tablets. Another trip reporter ?

Back to our seats with a Ginger Ale and a snack.


Time to board, we leave the lounge to go to gate 101 the southern most gate at TBIT. Boarding has already started and the agents go thru the boarding area with signs, looking for Business Class passagers and direct them towards the right.



We're going towards B-6138, China Southern's 3rd A380-800 delivered on the 29th of February 2012 !

We board the beast and we are greeted by 2 female cabin attendants who direct us towards the front part of the upper deck in the first part of business class. As soon as we enter, another attendant will walk us till our seat. I have 13A for tonight.

As soon as we are seated, our cabin attendant will bring us an oshibori, the menu is already on the side table.


Let's visit the seat !

In front, the foot rest which will make for a longer bed when the seat is fully recline. I am 6'2" and when fully reclined and me laying down I won't touche the top or bottow of the seat.
In the small niche, we'll find 2 bags, one with the very thin mattress and one with the duvet.



The remote control for the audio and video system with the earphone plug and a USB port.


On the left side there is 2 storage area, very useful. I will put all my stuff in one, and in the other, the bag for the mattress and duvet.


On the rightside, another storage compartment containing the amenity kit, barf bag and a paper.


2 pillows on the seat.


The seat controls are located under the cocktails table, you'll notice that the oshibori have the CZ logo.


Now will start a ballet of offers starting with the slippers...


The the welcome drinks with a choice of Orange, Apple juice or water...


Then the headphones...


Then the pyjamas that we won't use...


Then the cabin attendant will come and take our order for the dinner and breakfast.

Under the magazine rack you'll find the power plug that will save my life during the 15h flight as I could recharge my camera's battery... OK, I had 2 for this particular reason but I had another flight after this one !


I switch my screen on and start to navigate the entertainment system.





Then the cabin attendant will bring a bottle of water that I open and I have to take a picture off as I have never seen a bottle filled to the rim !

We're still waiting on our parking and the captain will announce that we will be delayed because the bagage conveyor belt has broken down and we are waiting for the last few bags to come...

Doors are closed and the jetways are pulled back, we'll go soon, 1 hour late.

We're ready to depart, the mood-lighting is setting a peachy mood !



Shorlty after take off, we are served our drinks of choice on a tray. I'll have a glass of dry white wine and some nuts.


The tablecloth is set on my table and the amuse bouche served.




What I enjoy with this seat is that when I was done with a dish, I'd put it on the side table and the crew would clear it rapidly.

Tray will arrive then, minor problem is that the tray is too small for the amount of dishes on it.


The starter was just OK, the duck wasn't too good...


For rose shaped butter in a dish, just one note, not a nice quality butter !


The salad, we'll never see the dressing...

Then the soup, I would have prefered the cream but everybody will get this one in our cabin, beef, dried scallops and winter melon.

No picture of the garlic bread they served. I noted that the codes of western cuisine and service are not well known yet, but I'll forgive them because of how kind and smiling the crew was !

No cheese either, even if mentionned in the menu, a fruit plate will be offered, no picture tho...

Than dessert will be offered, it is not the one on the menu, it's some sort of black forest gateau.


After this good meal, I'll watch my first movie, Brave.


During the movie, I will visit the toilets, I'll notice that the bar is set up with snacks, chocolates, cookies etc...




Picture before I fall asleep, there is another 13h24 of the 15 hours we're supposed to have !


I recline my seat and fall asleep very fast !




I wake up a little later and I see that we have another 7h06 minutes to go, I slept half the journey.





I call a cabin attendant and ask to have a snack and pick the mushroom and turkey tort. While waiting for it I'll navigate the entertainement system a little more. There is everything !












My snack arrives and it is not the tort from the menu, it is a cheese and spinach tort.


We continue on to Guangzhou.



I'll have a walk around tha plane, everybody's sleeping, a few are watching a movie...

On my return, a picture of the galley.


There is another 1831 miles to go...



I am watching Slumdog Millionaire and then the lights are on, warm colours of peach, rose and orange for a peaceful wake-up...



It's soon time to land, breakfast is going to be served soon.



The cabin attendant will come thru with the cart and will set the table with the table linen and the tray. She will then offer cornflakes and milk and will offer a bread basket with warm breads and danish pastries.


She will then serve the vegetable frittata that was really good, not dry at all !

But It'll get interrupted by the morning gymnastics !




Not a lot of success in Business for the gym !


But in Economy, everyone is doing the exercise, I arrived at the time when everybody had their arms up, by the time I was in the back they were doing feet exercises.


You'll notice that the mood-lighting is on in Business Class and that in Economy it is full bright !

We're nearly there, we have started the descent


The Airshow system is going bonkers now, not only didn't we not do that detour on the right, but we did land on the airport !



We've arrived at Guangzhou on time even if we were an hour late !

We're expected outside by a China Southern agent holding a sign with our flight number, CZ357 to Bangkok. He will invite us to follow him to the immigration desks.
