There are a couple more local pictures to show.
This looks like a launching pad for the short rocket ride to Sicily!.
The Arena dello Stretto
Palm trees and this nice historic building
The Villa Genoese-Zerbi
Check the boat please
Ready to ride
On approach for Reggio
With these massive difference in altitude here, there is certainly a special need for some technical help
This is the moving walkway from the harbour front to the old town
The main place
And it´s running also this way
Tanker traffic
The cathedral in the evening
Lots of people around like always in Italy
The place to meet
And a nightly view for Sicily
Looks like just a couple of meters away
And this one runs also during nighttime
The place to have a chat for the locals
Along the pedestrian area
With these huge palm trees
Looking like really special in the night
Ok, there are just a couple of hours left from this shorty travel night and I should go back to my local home now.
Breakfast is ready
The castello
With also some palm trees around
Bye now for Best Season
Well, I´am in southern Italy, isn´t it?.
There is a local bus service on offer from the citycenter
to the airport, at least according to the airports website.
No timetable to notice.
And also with the bus companies rural website there is no credible schedule to notice again.
Also at the bus station there is no timetable for the airport to see.
Well, I am gonna try my luck anyway, ask a couple of people around the bus and train station and finally take a bus with a good time distance for my flight to the village very close by to the airport. The fare is 1.00 Euro and just by surprise the bus stops here

Service AZ 1156 operated by Alitalia
Scheduled: 11.15 // 12.30
No, this isn´t a museum, it´s inside the terminal
Which looks like a bit outdated
Not to talk about the main competitors here
The ticket is fixed by AZ itself, the fare 55.00 Euro´s.
OLCI offers 30A, the last row window and the
nice young woman at the desk printed my boarding pass.
Palm trees around the apron
And Sicily in the distance
Well, this place is small. Check-in and arrivals on the ground floor. There is no upper floor and no way that there is anything like a lounge here.
Where is departures?.
Security is in the middle of the building, no time to wait
and you should go down some dirty stairs for the basement.
Really, this looks more like a parking garage than a departure hall
And well, it smells also this way
I want to go out here for Alitalia
Like this one in the background
There is something on taxi
And parked at gate 2
EI-DSN "Vincenzo Monti", this is the scheduled A320.
Leg no. 91 on type and new to the log
Under the wing, sure if ever possible
Since 28.02.2008 with AirOne and Alitalia.
51 examples are in the actual fleet
It´s 11.35 am, 20 minutes late and "Alitalia" leave REG with 24 partly cloudy degrees.
No duration info to notice.
And also by no surprise there is the competition on the apron
Bye now for REG
Heading for the runway
Ready for backtracking
This part looks like short
The whole apron for blu-ex
Just departed from "Three-Three" like arrivals yesterday
The load is 90% biz and VFR travellers well mixed.
Lots of elder people, it looks like a group, on travel.
Legroom is somewhat low here in 29A, the second to last row and three seats for me
Cabin crew is two female, two male FA´s all together elder.
One woman is really good looking, large, cute, but nevertheless powerful, blond hair, simply "Bella".
What´s this on the screen?
Cabin view with the dark grey, not that really clean leather seats
Not a single word from the flightdeck, not to my amusement.
For your safety
Service is free water, coffee, tea.
How I like blue cruising
Close to the coastline
Short to Roma, a perfectly calm flight till descent.
No flightlevel info
Above the city
Touchdown at the 3902 meters "One-Six-Left", 12.30 am, ontime, 20 sunny degrees here.
I like these cute MD´s
Bye now for EI-DSN
And yes, I like these italian wom..., no fashion advertissements
Or maybe this one
No extra security needed for the next flight.
Service 4U 2885 operated by Germanwings
Scheduled: 16.45 // 18.20
The ticket is secured this time with the Germanwings website, the fare 85.00 Euro´s, not cheap but it´s the best suitable connection.
OLCI works well, thanx to the 72 hours check-in limit, this time with a home printed boarding pass.
How to enter the Flightcare Star Alliance lounge with an 4U ticket?.
A couple of travellers waiting, one elder woman only at work.
Senator and Germanwings, no entry, next please.
But wait, there is also these Diners example in my purse.
Ok, welcome to the lounge, with applause from the scandinavian guys behind me, doing exactly the same way!
Not that much on offer here
Spacious enough, but no views at all
Some interesting destinations on the departure board
With my flight from D7
This one is parked at the gate.
Exactly the A319 like on schedule.
It looks like D-AGWP.
Just by surprise not a standard STR based plane and that means one more row available as during check-in.
Leg no. 88 on type. One more new entry to the log
With Germanwings since 15.03.2010.
The fleet is now at 32 planes on type.
And here is a story with D-AGWP: http://avherald.com/h?article=4446394d
4.50 pm, short behind schedule, 1 hour, 15 minutes for me and "Germanwings".
Departure from the 3307 meters runway "Two-Five", 28 sunny degrees here.
The captain is from the Netherlands today, with a nice welcome after boarding is completed.
The german FO is on the mike later on with nice and short infos inflight.
The load is 100%. No open seat to spot, that explains the fare.
No open seat?.
True, beside the at check-in non existent last row and this one is for me, 26F. Vacationeers all around.
It´s really strange how the people act, no one decides to change for the last row
Dark grey leather seats, clean so far, but noticeable lower legroom than on the 25 row planes
Cabin crew is one young and nice male FA, together with an also young and nice female FA.
There is also a middle aged really nice, large, cute, black haired, good looking with her glasses, woman at work.
Für ihre Sicherheit
Service is buy on board.
Should I change my mind from Italy to the States?
Tend Air?
Cabin view
What about the offers today?
No flightlevel info for the route above Firenze and Milano, followed by the aircraft sleep mode till very short to arrivals.
Back at sunny STR´s runway "Two-Five". 6.15 pm,
short ahead to schedule. Also here nice weather, 22 degrees and clear sky
Parked beside Y-travels aka luxurious Transall Air Transport bound for, who knows!
I like apron disembarking this way
Bye now for D-AGWP
Feels really strange to see these military machine parked in between the civil planes like it´s the everyday standard
The car is where it should be and soon thereafter back at the homebase.
Here are the conclusions:
Alitalia REG-FCO: Calm and relaxed as it should be.
Germanwings FCO-STR: Nice crew and also a relaxed
calm flight experience.
Three weeks now till something red for the log like this:
Arrivederci a presto,
comments welcome, sure,

Hi Markus,
Great report on the return from REG; Alitalia and Germanwings, not too special, but they serve a purpose.
The Best Season building seems a little bit weird, not much like a hotel (or is that just an ad?)
Row 26 on Germanwings--not a very good view it seems. Still prefer this row, even without a window?
Regarding Tend Air, they're a Romanian airline, which usually operates on behalf of other airlines; they don't have their own routes. Owned by a businessman--they seem to have only one frame operating.

It´s just a B&B at the second level of the house.

Sure ok with this well known route.

Thanks for sharing.... I believe REG earns a nomination for Italys worst airport?
Not sure if they refurbished it, but there is Rimini on a very level, too, as well as the old Catania terminal... And probably Genoa also ranking very high... As well as Bologna, oh and Bergamo... not sure where to end the list

Hi Markus !
Thanks for a nice conclusion to your REG trip!
Flights seem okay but nothing special either.
Looking forward to your next report, sounds intriguing.

Hi Markus,
thanks for this conclusion of your sunny Southern Italy trip. Again some very nice pictures of Reggio, seems definitely worth a visit. Finally two ok flights to get back home to STR with AZ and 4U.
Quoting FLIEGER67 (Thread starter): It´s really strange how the people act, no one decides to change for the last row
No window! That might be a reason that nobody wants to sit there.
Quoting FLIEGER67 (Thread starter): Parked beside Y-travels aka luxurious Transall Air Transport bound for, who knows!
That's indeed interesting, have never seen a Transall in STR.

Hey Markus
Interesting return report thanks for sharing. REG look amusing with all those moving walkways.
Still interesting you had PTV's on the AZ bird, wonder if they will ever be used.
Interesting to know you had D-AGWP on the flight from FCO to STR, I flew this airframe between Cologne and Manchester back in july.

Good report, for sure appreciated with some Italian sun and flair. Was the departure from REG as spectacular as the approach?
Thank you. The departure was also interesting but not as special like the approach.
Quoting sultanils (Reply 11):
What a contrast to see such a modern travelator in the middle of a neighbourhood with classic old buildings.
Definitely also my opinion.
Quoting sultanils (Reply 11):
Or did you ask the driver in your best Italian to drop you off there?
Quoting gabrielchew (Reply 12): Nice to see some views of REG...looks like a nice place. I'm really mlooking forward to my 2 day car hire from Brindisi next month now!
Thank you and I´am looking forward to a new story from Italy.

Hi Markus,
Good to read the conclusion of your Italian adventure. Some nice shots of Reggio too, although the airport looks pretty grim. Mind you, the lounge at Roma doesn't look much better. What kind of a time warp is it in?
Quoting FLIEGER67 (Thread starter): With these massive difference in altitude here, there is certainly a special need for some technical help
That's ridiculous! The entry to my garage is 10x steeper than that!

Kudos to you, 6 seats to yourself on a full flight. Still, I'd rather stick with the proper window and have a couple of seat mates.
Happy flying
