Ciao, dear readers again,

I´am in Italy, Calabria to say it correct

"The Blu-express For Europe´s Kai Tak/REG" (by FLIEGER67 Dec 23 2012 in Trip Reports)

and I should be back in Stuttgart later in the afternoon.
Which way should I take?. Any ideas?.

This is the routemap:

Great thanx to:

http://www.gcmap.com/

REG is counted now on the departure airports map with no. 228:

Departure Airports II auf einer größeren Karte anzeigen

The actual done routes are here:

And departure airports till no. 200:

There are a couple more local pictures to show.
This looks like a launching pad for the short rocket ride to Sicily!.

Well, I´am in southern Italy, isn´t it?.
There is a local bus service on offer from the citycenter
to the airport, at least according to the airports website.
No timetable to notice.
And also with the bus companies rural website there is no credible schedule to notice again.
Also at the bus station there is no timetable for the airport to see.
Well, I am gonna try my luck anyway, ask a couple of people around the bus and train station and finally take a bus with a good time distance for my flight to the village very close by to the airport. The fare is 1.00 Euro and just by surprise the bus stops here

Service AZ 1156 operated by Alitalia
Scheduled: 11.15 // 12.30

No, this isn´t a museum, it´s inside the terminal
http://i22.photobucket.com/albums/b305/FLIEGER67/I1202/I1202155.jpg
Which looks like a bit outdated
http://i22.photobucket.com/albums/b305/FLIEGER67/I1202/I1202156.jpg
Not to talk about the main competitors here
http://i22.photobucket.com/albums/b305/FLIEGER67/I1202/I1202158.jpg
The ticket is fixed by AZ itself, the fare 55.00 Euro´s.
OLCI offers 30A, the last row window and the
nice young woman at the desk printed my boarding pass.
Palm trees around the apron
http://i22.photobucket.com/albums/b305/FLIEGER67/I1202/I1202159.jpg
And Sicily in the distance
http://i22.photobucket.com/albums/b305/FLIEGER67/I1202/I1202160.jpg
Well, this place is small. Check-in and arrivals on the ground floor. There is no upper floor and no way that there is anything like a lounge here.
Where is departures?.
Security is in the middle of the building, no time to wait
and you should go down some dirty stairs for the basement.
Really, this looks more like a parking garage than a departure hall
http://i22.photobucket.com/albums/b305/FLIEGER67/I1202/I1202161.jpg
And well, it smells also this way

It´s 11.35 am, 20 minutes late and "Alitalia" leave REG with 24 partly cloudy degrees.
No duration info to notice.
And also by no surprise there is the competition on the apron

Legroom is somewhat low here in 29A, the second to last row and three seats for me
http://i22.photobucket.com/albums/b305/FLIEGER67/I1202/I1202186.jpg
Cabin crew is two female, two male FA´s all together elder.

Service 4U 2885 operated by Germanwings
Scheduled: 16.45 // 18.20

The ticket is secured this time with the Germanwings website, the fare 85.00 Euro´s, not cheap but it´s the best suitable connection.
OLCI works well, thanx to the 72 hours check-in limit, this time with a home printed boarding pass.
How to enter the Flightcare Star Alliance lounge with an 4U ticket?.
A couple of travellers waiting, one elder woman only at work.
Senator and Germanwings, no entry, next please.
But wait, there is also these Diners example in my purse.
Ok, welcome to the lounge, with applause from the scandinavian guys behind me, doing exactly the same way!
http://i22.photobucket.com/albums/b305/FLIEGER67/I1202/I1202202.jpg
Not that much on offer here
http://i22.photobucket.com/albums/b305/FLIEGER67/I1202/I1202203.jpg
Spacious enough, but no views at all

With my flight from D7
http://i22.photobucket.com/albums/b305/FLIEGER67/I1202/I1202208.jpg
This one is parked at the gate.
Exactly the A319 like on schedule.
It looks like D-AGWP.
Just by surprise not a standard STR based plane and that means one more row available as during check-in.
Leg no. 88 on type. One more new entry to the log
http://i22.photobucket.com/albums/b305/FLIEGER67/I1202/I1202210.jpg
With Germanwings since 15.03.2010.
The fleet is now at 32 planes on type.
And here is a story with D-AGWP:
http://avherald.com/h?article=4446394d
http://i22.photobucket.com/albums/b305/FLIEGER67/I1202/I1202211.jpg
4.50 pm, short behind schedule, 1 hour, 15 minutes for me and "Germanwings".
Departure from the 3307 meters runway "Two-Five", 28 sunny degrees here.
The captain is from the Netherlands today, with a nice welcome after boarding is completed.
The german FO is on the mike later on with nice and short infos inflight.
The load is 100%. No open seat to spot, that explains the fare.
No open seat?.
True, beside the at check-in non existent last row and this one is for me, 26F. Vacationeers all around.
It´s really strange how the people act, no one decides to change for the last row
http://i22.photobucket.com/albums/b305/FLIEGER67/I1202/I1202212.jpg
Dark grey leather seats, clean so far, but noticeable lower legroom than on the 25 row planes
http://i22.photobucket.com/albums/b305/FLIEGER67/I1202/I1202213.jpg
Cabin crew is one young and nice male FA, together with an also young and nice female FA.
There is also a middle aged really nice, large, cute, black haired, good looking with her glasses, woman at work.
Für ihre Sicherheit
http://i22.photobucket.com/albums/b305/FLIEGER67/I1202/I1202214.jpg

Should I change my mind from Italy to the States?

What about the offers today?
http://i22.photobucket.com/albums/b305/FLIEGER67/I1202/I1202218.jpg
No flightlevel info for the route above Firenze and Milano, followed by the aircraft sleep mode till very short to arrivals.
Back at sunny STR´s runway "Two-Five". 6.15 pm,
short ahead to schedule. Also here nice weather, 22 degrees and clear sky
http://i22.photobucket.com/albums/b305/FLIEGER67/I1202/I1202219.jpg
Parked beside Y-travels aka luxurious Transall Air Transport bound for, who knows!

I like apron disembarking this way
http://i22.photobucket.com/albums/b305/FLIEGER67/I1202/I1202221.jpg
Bye now for D-AGWP
http://i22.photobucket.com/albums/b305/FLIEGER67/I1202/I1202222.jpg
Feels really strange to see these military machine parked in between the civil planes like it´s the everyday standard
http://i22.photobucket.com/albums/b305/FLIEGER67/I1202/I1202223.jpg
The car is where it should be and soon thereafter back at the homebase.

Here are the conclusions:
Alitalia REG-FCO: Calm and relaxed as it should be.
Germanwings FCO-STR: Nice crew and also a relaxed
calm flight experience.

Three weeks now till something red for the log like this:

Hi Markus,

Great report on the return from REG; Alitalia and Germanwings, not too special, but they serve a purpose.

The Best Season building seems a little bit weird, not much like a hotel (or is that just an ad?)

Row 26 on Germanwings--not a very good view it seems. Still prefer this row, even without a window?

Regarding Tend Air, they're a Romanian airline, which usually operates on behalf of other airlines; they don't have their own routes. Owned by a businessman--they seem to have only one frame operating.

Anyway, thanks for the write up, Markus.

Good to see underwing shots

Not sure if they refurbished it, but there is Rimini on a very level, too, as well as the old Catania terminal... And probably Genoa also ranking very high... As well as Bologna, oh and Bergamo... not sure where to end the list

Hey Markus

Interesting return report thanks for sharing. REG look amusing with all those moving walkways.

Still interesting you had PTV's on the AZ bird, wonder if they will ever be used.
Interesting to know you had D-AGWP on the flight from FCO to STR, I flew this airframe between Cologne and Manchester back in july.

Hello Markus,

Good report, for sure appreciated with some Italian sun and flair. Was the departure from REG as spectacular as the approach?

This is the moving walkway from the harbour front to the old town

What a contrast to see such a modern travelator in the middle of a neighbourhood with classic old buildings.

Just by surprise not a standard STR based plane and that means one more row available as during check-in.

Are the STR based ones in a different cabin config?

Quoting FLIEGER67 (Thread starter):
It´s really strange how the people act, no one decides to change for the last row

Of course! It doesn't have a window!

Nice continuation of the story, and thanks for sharing those pictures of REG!

Hey, good to follow more comments.

Good report, for sure appreciated with some Italian sun and flair. Was the departure from REG as spectacular as the approach?

Thank you. The departure was also interesting but not as special like the approach.

Quoting sultanils (Reply 11):

What a contrast to see such a modern travelator in the middle of a neighbourhood with classic old buildings.

Definitely also my opinion.

Quoting sultanils (Reply 11):

Or did you ask the driver in your best Italian to drop you off there?

I was prepared for it!.

Quoting sultanils (Reply 11):

It seems AZ owns that place?

Prior to the blu-ex competition.

True words.

Quoting sultanils (Reply 11):

One row fewer.

Quoting sultanils (Reply 11):

Of course! It doesn't have a window!

Well that´s the point here!.

Hi Markus,

Good to read the conclusion of your Italian adventure. Some nice shots of Reggio too, although the airport looks pretty grim. Mind you, the lounge at Roma doesn't look much better. What kind of a time warp is it in?

Quoting FLIEGER67 (Thread starter):
With these massive difference in altitude here, there is certainly a special need for some technical help

That's ridiculous! The entry to my garage is 10x steeper than that!

Quoting FLIEGER67 (Thread starter):
Looks like just a couple of meters away

Yeah, it does. You could almost touch it.

Quoting FLIEGER67 (Thread starter):
True, beside the at check-in non existent last row and this one is for me, 26F. Vacationeers all around.
It´s really strange how the people act, no one decides to change for the last row

Kudos to you, 6 seats to yourself on a full flight. Still, I'd rather stick with the proper window and have a couple of seat mates.

Happy flying

Usually me, too, but this time I decide for the aircraft sleep mode!.
